Stuck Searching for updates after restore - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, after being rooted for a bit, i decided to do some things that ultimately messed up my phone a bit. so instead of trying the numerous fixes for the problem, i decided to do a factory restore. it goes off fine, and brings me to the setup. i connect to my wifi and now its searching for updates. i figured it would take a bit so i went off and did some other things while the phone was on my desk. now about an hour and a half later its still checking for updates. my only options is to go back, which yields no other options, or to skip, but the skip is greyed out and i cant press it. so im stuck in the software update screen while it forever checks for updates and i cant get out of it. Ive restarted a few times and also shut it off for a bit, but still its stuck on this screen.

*UPDATE* Still cant do anything... ive booted into recovery and factory reset, cleared cache, and all that and still nothing... i cant get to the home screen or any other screen other than the one that says "checking for updates". if i dont turn wifi on and then continue, all it says is "Just a sec..." and stays on that forever. If anyone has any suggestions please leave them here i dont have a backup phone and need this fixed asap thank you.

I reflashed root file but I'm not sure if factory wipe has taken the file off your internal sdcard but yeah, i just reflashed the system file. Best of skills

[Q] Defy flashed but gets stuck after a few seconds of android

Im trying to get the new Official Tmobile USA rom on my phone. I just flashed my phone over from a China 2.2 rom running one of jboogies recoverys. I wiped, then flashed the leaked tmobile rom. When I try to log into my motoblur account, the phone just locks up, and then shows a black screen. This lockup is once im within android, not during the boot sequence. The sbf was successfully flashed, but just black screens after a while. Also, the keyboard wasnt appearing when I tried typing in my details.
Any help is appreciated.
Ive managed to get passed the login screen by essentially racing to typing in my account and password before it crashed. I eventually got it. I can now the android os but it crashes almost instantly. About 10 or so seconds of actually navigation. I tried to get into the "about the phone" menu in the setting, but it kicks me out of it really fast. I saw something that said 2.1_update1. on my latest boot, ive activated USB debugging, which seems to be working. The phone isnt shutting down anymore. I however have no service (I didnt have any before USB debugging either though).
My phone seems stable being on with usb debugging on, but I still cant get into the "about phone" menu. It just kicks me back out. Still open to suggestions
Heres what i can read from the "about phone"
System Version:
Blur_Version.3.6.360.MB525.T-Mobile.en.us
Model Number
MB525
Firmware Version
2.1_update1

My phone keeps pushing me out of several apps such as the dialer, messagging, mostly anything Motorola related.
Tried flashing the tmobile us 3.4.2. I got my reception back, but home home screen was just black. I did have my bar at the top though. I couldn't access anything. I could receive calls. Flashing back to the u3_6.36.3.0 sbf. what a headache
I think i know my problem. I guess I need to do a full wipe in between flashing. Only problem is is that im not rooted anymore and i cant get any SBF to really work anymore. all im getting are black screens. What sbf can I use that I can root so I can wipe.
As far as wiping is concerned. I did wipe the first time, but then I rebooted the phone. I feel like that was my mistake.
Anyways, how can i get my phone working again?
After an unbelievable amount of frustration, ive managed to get it
Firstly, I went back to the u3_6.36.3.0 sbf. Like all the other roms I tested, I continued to have a black screen with a menu bar. I shut the device down, and booted into the stock recovery (Volume down + Power). I then touched the bottom right corner to get into the menu. I did a full factory reset. After I rebooted, the device was working 100% as intended. I check for the system update, and sure enough, its downloading now.
I really hope this can help someone, but I feel due to my lack of proper notation and poor documentation, it wont. Anyways, My only advice can really be to those trying to get the official tmobile 2.2. If when you flash the u3_6.36.3.0 sbf and you get a ton of errors, just try a factory reset via the stock bootloader.
What do you mean by touching the bottom right corner of the phone? On the screen or button need to be pressed? And surely it will enter into another menu sort of service menu where one can do a list of actions??
Great getaway by the way...
bottom right corner of the screen (lcd). Its the stock recovery. When you boot into the stock recovery, it will have a exclamation point in a triangle as well as an android standing by it. Once you actually enter the menu, it will look alot like the custom recovery. Also, be patient if you do the factory reset. it takes a little bit. It doesnt really show any indication that its working other then some periods occurring two or three times throughout the process.

HOX Won't Boot

I need a bit of help with a stock HTC One X. As of this morning it won't boot up. I have made no changes to the ROM, everything is stock.
Tried entering the recovery panel and turning fastboot on then restarting but every time the system stops at the "HTC One" page after making a startup sound. Sometimes the screen will go black and hitting the volume keys will bring up the volume changer but that is it.
There was no warning of an OTA update or anything like that.
When charging the screen stays on and dims, but stays on the "HTC One" screen.
Factory reset HOX and it booted, but next day same issues. This is 3 times I've had to factory reset now.
Every time I restart or cold boot it freezes on the "One X" screen.
This exact same thing has just happened to me! Just 10 minutes ago
I have no idea what to do.
I have not attempted root or anything like that everything is stock (Optus from allphones).
All I did was restart and now I cannot get into the phone.
I can get to those options (fastboot) by holding down the volume down button and the power button but restarting it or powering it off there does not help.
I havn't tried a factory reset yet as I'm scared about loosing all my data.
Can someone please help!
Please please
I'm suprised someone else is having the exact same issue what the hell is happening
Have you tried using the Recovery option from the Bootloader?
Yeah I tried that.
It didn't do anything. I've since done a factory reset. That worked but I've now lost everything
Now that's it's allw whiped I figure I might as well root it and install android revolution. I hope it's just a software thing and this will fix it.

Fair enough, if you're thinking of Rooting and installing ARHD etc then feel free to use my Guide : The Stock to Custom ROM Awesomeness guide
It'll take you from Stock to having ARHD on your phone ok

Took it into HTC last night and had the firmware flashed. No problems now... 12 hours with numerous restarts just to make sure.
It looks like it was a corruption in the software. I noticed HTC turned off the fast boot option before giving the phone back to me. Took 30 minutes in total.
If it happens again, try to hold the power button and the "Homepage" button at the same time. You should see a grey box saying "Continue holding to restart".
Thats a full restart rather than a shell restart.
That may help.

Help! It wants to live, but won't go past splash

Phone's been slowly giving me more and more issues. Today I was using it fine, turned off the screen, a bit later, tried turning it on and nothing. This has been a common occurrence, about once a day I have to do a battery pull or plug it in to make the screen turn on, then all is normal. Battery pull got it to boot to the splash screen, but then nothing. Plugged it in, and nothing. Left it plugged it in for about an hour, tried again, still nothing. Unplugged and tried powering on, nothing. Pulled the battery again, and could only get to the splash screen. I'm running JB Sourcery, and have the one selected where the apple rots and then it spells out droid. I get through that and then it does nothing else.
Info: just tried again, had to pull the battery, then I could get the google logo to pop up, but that was it.
Info the 2nd: plugged it in for 2 hours, the graphic showed it fully charged. So I tried booting it and again, same response..gets through the boot splash screen, but goes black after. Pressing power button does nothing, doesn't even get the charge graphic to show up.
Info the 3rd: I left it be this time thinking maybe it was just really laggy or something, but after 15 minutes, still nothing. But I can feel a bit of heat as if it is on.
Info the 4th: I can get into bootloader and recovery fine. I was even able to make a backup (only thing I could think to do in there that would take some time and not risk screwing it up more) So it's not a battery issue, seems to be something with the rom.
Please help
Even though the phone is rooted and custom rom, can I take it back to Verizon? I've only had the phone since December. If I could do that, is there any way to get all the pics off of it first?

deja vu.....million times.
with a little search i found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895
Was able to wipe data/cache and re-flash the rom. Seems to be working for now. I think I'll go back to stock (thanks for the link samersh) and see if I'm still having issues.

My tablet updated and now I can't get it to do anything...

My Galaxy Tab S prompted me for an update last night. I was at 5.0.2, so I'm not certain what I was getting upgraded to but it was about a 190MB download. The download went fine and the install seemed to go OK. However, at the end of the update install, the tablet rebooted, and that's when everything screwed up. It went through a normal reboot sequence but, when it started to come up like it was going to take me to the home screen, I got hundreds of error windows popping up one on top of the other. They all said "Unfortunately, this has stopped." or that has stopped, basically running through pretty much every default pre-installed and me-installed app on my tablet. And they kept appearing faster than I could press OK. I have just a black screen with these white error boxes. I'm never able to get to the home screen at all. I've rebooted. I've completely powered down and waited for several minutes before booting. Nothing seems to help. I keep getting a normal boot sequence, right up until the point that it would relinquish control to me, and then these same hundreds of error boxes and no home screen or any sort of control over my tablet. I have no idea what to do.
Has anyone ever heard of any behavior like this or know what I should do?
Thanks.
try to enter the recovery mode by pressing home+vol up+power button. and reset your device
or you can download your full firmware and flash it using odin.

Just got up for the day and saw your response. I'm on nights right now, sorry.
Thank you very much for your reply. I was able to get into recovery mode. Just to clarify, when you say "reset", are you saying a reboot (the first option) or wipe data/factory reset (the fourth option)?
EDIT:
You can disregard. I went ahead and rebooted, and that did what I figured; pretty much nothing. Basically just rebooted, got out of recovery mode, and booted right back into the state that it was in before, which was screwed up. Factory resetting now.
Thanks.
OK, system wiped OK and it's restoring from a Google Backup right now. So, I guess we'll see how it goes the next time I try to update. I have the Wi-Fi version, just standard SM-T800. Isn't Marshmallow available as an update now? I'll see how things go I guess and see what updates are available.
Gotta remember recovery mode, for when all seems darkest!
Thanks again for your help.
OK, so, my tablet is back up and running, but that update won't install. It isn't causing the same problems as before, but it still won't install. I'm at 5.02 and the update is 190MB. It downloads and it starts to install after I accept the EULA. The screen goes black, the little Samsung logo pops up, then the little Android guy comes up and it says installing update 0%, waits for about two seconds, then the little Android guys is on his side with his cover plate up and it says error, then reboots. I can still use my tablet, I just can't install this update, whatever it is. I'm pretty sure it isn't the Marshmallow update, because I'd heard that was up over 1GB. Still, if I can't get this update, whatever it is, I doubt I'll ever be able to get the Marshmallow update.
Now I'm happy I have my tablet back, but frustrated because it won't update.
definitely it already has MM update. you could go to Odin way. Update it manually. can download the firmware here.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. It doesn't seem too hard. I'm reading up on it now. I'll download everything I need and possibly try it this weekend. I intentionally haven't reinstalled a lot on my tablet yet, thinking I was going to go that route.
Hopefully, that will take care of my issues.
Thanks again for the advice.
Well, updating with Odin went off without a hitch. After it had updated, I performed a factory reset, just to be safe, and reinstalled everything. It's running great now and I sitting pretty with 6.0.1.
Thanks again for your help.

Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 SM-T520 Stuck in Kind of a Bootloop of Sorts

So I feel like this is different from a typical bootloop (certainly different from ones I've had in the past). Any ideas short of factory reset would be very much appreciated. I just need it to load once more to do a Titanium Backup (and I guess I should install TWRP and do a nandroid backup)!
I've been using my Tab Pro for years now, rooted, works perfectly, and I always leave it on. I thought yesterday, perhaps this is a bad idea, I should turn it off every once in a while. But I wanted to play a game before I did. I click the game icon and then everything froze and it restarted itself.
It gets stuck at the SAMSUNG logo page. Sounds like a typical bootloop. After 20 minutes of waiting, nothing changes, so I hold down the power button and it restarts and actually loads to my home screen! Great! I swipe the screen lock, click on my game -- it restarts, rinse, repeat. Each time it restarts itself it stops at the SAMSUNG page, forcing a second manual reboot that fully loads, but doesn't go 10 seconds before restarting. I try to load different things each time and finally give up.
So I look some stuff up online. There's a suggestion to go into recovery (I could've sworn I had custom, but apparently not?) and "Wipe Cache/Partition." I look up that this is safe and do it (Sidenote: Power+Home+Vol Up only works around every 5th try or so. It glitches out every other time, there's a quick flash and a horizontal line and it restarts again). Now I restart and it worked! It loads and no reboot!
But now, a third of my apps/games have the android guy as an icon and even more of the real icons are all grayed out. I figure one more restart and it would come back. Now I'm back into my weird bootloop. I try wiping cache/partition again and again and it no longer works as a solution...
TL;DR - Tablet keeps restarting to SAMSUNG logo, requires 2nd manual restart. Home screen loads, but then restarts 10 seconds later. Clearing cache/partition made things worse. HALP!
EDIT: My current build is KOT49H.T520XXUANAE. I can't even find the stock ROM for this! Does it exist?
EDIT 2: After letting it charge for an hour (it was already 93%) I went back to it and it had loaded! But the home screen was blank save for the Google search and the Apps icon (which found no apps....). I was able to get into settings and attempted to click Application Manager and then it froze again.
Update: Still in need of help if anyone has any. A wonderful person on the forums linked me to my stock ROM, I pushed that through ODIN, it worked and did the "Android is Updating App XX of 200" thing.
It loaded and didn't crash! Most of the icons came back, but were still grayed out (I have a second partition via Link2SD which, when not rooted, doesn't load!)
So I went to Settings to see if USB debugging was enabled... and it froze. Kind of. It let me bring up the task bar and close settings, but not reload anything. Eventually I was forced to restart because I couldn't do anything. I tried booting into safe mode and still nothing.
Now when it loads, I get repeated "Unfortunately, Samsung keyboard has stopped working." and then the touch screen stops functioning and it restarts. I'm having a great day.

Few of this probs I did have too.
I would recommend to start from scratch and wipe also your data and sd-card (with TWRP). Install either stock or Custom, but put out your sdcard before re-booting.
Just play around and after that (with no probs hopefully) insert it again.

I appreciate the response, but as I said, I'm looking for anything shy of factory reset. If I lose all of my apps and data and configuration, I might as well throw out the tablet and buy a new one.
Still trying to figure out the pattern. I got another attempt of it not restarting for 10 full minutes. The keyboard failing is annoying because it doesn't stop, but I can live with it if it means being able to backup my tablet with Titanium Backup. I only got 6 apps backed up before it froze, but I'll get through all of them eventually (I hope). It's just going to be incredibly frustrating.
