[Q] OpenRecovery Mode; How to use - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody,
even after 4hours of google and searching I was not able to get an answer. Why is the new Recovery Partition, which was announced three months ago, not used somehow? http://developer.sonymobile.com/201...for-a-range-of-unlocked-xperia-devices-video/
I want to use latest CM and somehow, since a few days, a seperate recovery image is available http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=amami
So in the end, I am totally confused, there is no "clean" installation method, even the CM wiki tells me to flash boot.img with recovery included while sony annoueced seperate recovery partition 3 months ago, and I am not able to find a recovery.im to flash... Is it not working well or why still the old way is used?
I want to go to latest stock, then unlock bootloader (without saving TA-partition), and then I wanted to use the seperate recovery partiiton I am used to work with on my other Android devices.
So please any hint or thread or anything which might help me I am really lost...
best regards and I wish all a nice weekend

[Q] Help with installing a ROM.

Hi all
Hopefully someone will be able to help me here as have spent all day going round in circles and finally decided I need to stop stabbing in the dark and ask for help from people who know what there doing.
My son has a Sony Xperia M (C1905). He's always running out of space with all the games he likes to play on it so I thought I would move them to a removable 8GB SD card for him. After downloading and installing a app that should have allowed me to move them I was still unable to so I did a Google and found out that its not possible with this phone with out rooting it.
At this point I started looking into how to do it and found out I needed to unlock my boot loader. I used this site (developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader) to get the code required and used the code in "Sony Mobile Flasher by Androxyde V0.9.18.1" to unlock it with out any problems. When I restarted the phone it would get stuck on the operator logo (Three UK) no matter how many times i restarted it or pulled the battery out.
Since then I have tried various different ROMS for the Xperia M, both installed via the CWM (zip file) and via the flash program (ftf file), also I have tried a few different versions of the CWM. All of this has got me no closer to getting the phone working again. I either get errors while trying to install the ROM or it installed fine and just goes into a boot loop.
I don't believe I have bricked the phone as I can still do everything on it (flash more, fastboot mode, format etc in CWM) i just cant get the phone to boot up correctly. Also drivers are installed on my pc fine so dont think its a problem with that either. I do think it cold just be not using the correct ROM, CWM, KERNEL?
Would someone please be able to help me out here and give me a step by step guide of what I need to do (in simple terms) along with what files to use. I'm not after the latest Android version as long as its a recent version, the only thing it has to be able to do is move apps to the SD card.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Hi,
You will need to flash the phone with the stock firmware.
Here is the topic that explains how to do it using Flashtool and also contains links to the firmware: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2697277
Once your phone is unlocked, you can follow this topic to install CM11 on your phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2584956
and lastly, this tutorial will help you use your SD card as an internal storage: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711280&page=2
Thank you so much for your reply.
I was just coming to say that I had somehow managed to get CyanogenMod 11 rom installed and working fine (all be it with a lot of apps like play store etc missing. Do i have to install them after?)
ill have a look at the links you provided as well. thanks

If everything is working properly then you just apply the topic on the swap (last point of my first post), there are several method for each variant (which is on stock rom or CM11)

[4.4.2][CWM Recovery][E98020h]LG Optimus G Pro CWM Recovery Error/FreeGee Error!

Recently, I have been introduced to Android Rooting and I have successfully rooted my phone with Towelroot. My friend installed Cyanogenmod 11 on his Galaxy S3 the other day and I have been having many problems doing the process myself. I have ripped xdadevelopers to pieces trying to find a solution, but nothing has ever been simple enough, well really efficient enough to fix my problem.
I have ROM Manager installed on my device and the latest CWM Recovery and when I get to the "Recovery" mode it does not give me all the options a normal "Recovery" screen would give me. I can not backup my current stock rom because there is no option. In doing this I accidentally wiped my phone and had no way to recover, so I lost a lot of temporary things, very frustrating.
Basically what I need to know is how to get CWM Recovery to work on my device, etc. Also I forgot to mention before that FreeGee messes up too. It says something about "loki" or something. I am sick of trying several methods that fail in the end. If you can tell me how to get CWM Recovery to work on my phone. I do have an SD Card and my phone is rooted. Please help me! I apologize if all the information is not present, but if you need to know anything specific I would be more than happy to answer your question!

Have you tried installing the recovery from G.Pro Recovery first? Freegee will not work for me, giving me similar errors, until I first do that. See the to the Bountyman G3 v4.x thread under 'Optimus G Pro Android Development' for more info. Works for me every time (though I choose TWRP; friggin' *hate* CWM).

All ROMs stuck in boot screen

Hello all - I've been working for a few weeks (off and on) trying to get my old Incredible 2 in a working order to use as a wifi media device. To get he newer apps I needed to upgrade to at least ICS. I went through htcdev to be able to flash roms and then decided to downgrade and try to get to s-off - at which point I discovered revolutionary was down....I've since been able to get back to the htcdev unlocked bootloader process so I'm s-on with hboot .98. I'm using TWRP 2.6.3. I've tried three different roms - two cm10.2 and one cm11 and while they flash I'm not able to get past the boot screen (past the HTC one). I've done wipes before each flash and I've flashed the correct boot.img each time. I've tried each one of them at least twice to no avail. Is there any other settings or things to try??
My ultimate problem is that I was able to get to Android 4.2.2 but the app that I need to play my music from the cloud is Microsoft Groove which due to a recent change is no longer working with 4.2.2 (kind of like the perfect timing I had with revolutionary being down) - so I'm trying to get to something higher than that...Any other ROM ideas might help too???
Thanks. I've learned so much following this forum over the last few weeks - I just can't seem to get past this one by myself.....
Well thankfully I was able to solve my own problem...Figure I'd update here in case anyone else comes across the same issues. I basically did not have the best TWRP version installed - you need to have TWRP 2.7.0.0 installed. Once I installed that recovery I was able to flash each and every rom and the phone is starting up fine (after also flashing the correct boot.img file). We'll now see if I can get past the app issue itself that I was having but I'm definitely past the boot screen issue.

[q] How to combine system with phone storage

Hello, I have managed to root my Find 7 on ColorOS V2.1.5i Stable and already rooted using twrp-2.8.7.2-find7.
my question is, how combine the system (2.95GB) with my phone storage (9GB) .. ?
So, i tried to switch partition (in oppo), but it went to TWRP mode. so, I restart again, it still same and not combined.
Please Help.
I have the same question, I searched the forums, It seems need convert to LVM. But I'm not get detail steps.
I suggest that you flash the stock COS recovery first and switch partition later.

New to flashing/upgrading

Hi folks,
I'm after some information. My Nexus 4 is about kaput now with the battery lasting about 4 hours or so with a full charge so I am looking to move over to my S4 mini for a while before buying an upgrade.
However i don't fancy rolling back to 4.4.2 from 5.1.1 as have got accustomed to it now. so there for I am looking to upgrade/flash it or whatever.
I am quite the novice and have not done this on any phone before so I am looking for a bit of help,
I have looked over xda and read some bits but think someone just telling me would be better, i'm not a tech dunce but I am not 100% confident in this at the moment as there seems to be more than one way of doing this.
What do i need to do first and foremost to make the process go as planned?
I take it I need to "root" the phone first (what does this do ? give me access to the firmware level? is that it?) using a "recovery tool" as they are called (is that right?)
Then after I have done that I can install a fresh ROM onto the phone and basic app's etc.
I have seen these guides:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2364980
and
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...i9190-i9195-cyanogenmod-13-0-s4-mini-t3276141
Is it just a matter of following them or are there other things I need to do first, in between or after?
I am not bothered about anything being saved on the s4 mini it can be wiped clean and start a fresh, I don't need any of my data on it backed up
A quick bullet guide or acknowledgement of the two threads above or pointing me towards some better ones would be great and any pointers or descriptions of the acronyms or places in menu's which may have had their names changed or have been moved.
Many thanks Everyone,
Dahools
Hi!, you dont need to worry about anything, the only thing that you need is follow these guides, but make sure if you have the correct variant.
First Install Kies and connect your phone to it( For correct phone drivers). And after phone connect wells, Close kies from task manager.
You Need Odin to install a recovery software in your phone(TWRP, Clock Recovery, Philip). I only used twrp now.
Here is link below with instruction. Download recovery for your variant(i9190,i9192 or i9195 base on your model).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2678420
Suppose if you install TWRP. Boot into recovery, And click Wipe, Do a factory reset , Clear Devil cache, Then go back and install your Firmware(cm12.1 or cm13 for your intended model). And flash Gapps as well. Then reboot. And you are done.
I have tried TWRP for both i9190 and i9192 model. and installed custom roms. Work fine.
Good Luck.
thanks fellas
I went for it with the original links and it worked. (eventually) A bit of user error on my part missing recovery mode on reboot first time and thinking it was done when it wasn't. Only putting the first bit in (root kit v2) then not realising how to flash the next parts. A bit of persistence paid off.
I have a I9195 model and rooting with that clockwork worked then loading the CM13 and then the Gapps. All one after the other in one go finally worked for me! so so far so good, just getting used to Android 6 now I think everything is working though, not put my sim in yet. will do that tomorrow.
If anyone was to follow what I did the big tip I would say is copy everything onto the SD card before you start anything, not as I did at first just putting the first bit on then thinking I can copy the next bit on later . . .
