I see the stock recovery for 1.33.605.313 that was posted in Verizon HTC One (M9) Android Development but I need to know if that will also work for 1.33.605.15 or would a different one be needed. I flashed TWRP without first making a backup of the stock recovery. tia.

Hi,
first, my former device was a Samsung Galaxy S and i'm quite familiar with flashing ROMs and such on that device. The HTC One X is my first HTC device so i'm new in flashing and HTCs.
I used the method described in the below thread to flash CWM to my HTC One X
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1579797
My question now is this, can i receive OTAs with CWM flashed on my device? It is implied in the thread that i need the stock recovery to do so.
There is a stock recovery image supplied in this thread. Can i flash it to any strock ROM version or do i need the specific one for my ROM version and if so where can i get this version?
In order to flash CWM i had to unlock the bootloader, do i need to revert this for OTAs?
Thanks for your answers.
Hey,
with Clockworkmod flashed, you cant install OTA updates, you have to flash stock recovery and relock your bootloader.
If you have a custom rom, you have to install Stock RUU to recieve and install OTAs.

You need stock rom and stock recovery. If your stock rom is just rooted, that's fine, but if you deleted system apps or modded, it might not work.
To install stock recovery you need to be unlocked, but unless you relocked, you're good to go.
You don't need to relock to install OTA.
To install RUU, you need to be relocked, but you don't need to install the stock recovery.
Edit: Urgh, that was quite a bump from the guy above. But the correction is still useful.
To update my HTC One X (Tegra) when the next OTA comes along, I'm going to need my current recovery partition.
Until then, I'd like to run clockwork mod.
I've been trying to boot up CWM (recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.4.0-endeavoru.img - and the non-touch version) using
fastboot boot recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.4.0-endeavoru.img
Which, I believe will allow me to backup the current recovery partition via the nandroid option. I dont want to fastboot flash recovery until I have the current one backed up. It doesn't work anyway, it just freezes on the white HTC into screen.
The phone was rooted before the current OTA, but /system/xbin/su has been removed and none of the apps can use it for root privileges.
If I could get into CWM I could reinstall /system/xbin/su easily.
Am I missing something really basic here? I'm still learning about all the android root business.
I dont really want to rely on extracting one from an RUU that might take ages to find and download, and one for my exact region/version might not be leaked.
Why would you backup your recovery if there are img's of the official ones. If you wanna use stock recovery after cwm, you can simply download and flash stock recovery.
Here you can get stock Jb recovery;

Mike1986 has also posted stock recovery of stock ICS.

I wasn't sure that just any stock recovery would be OK to OTA upgrade from. I've updated a few times and it fails if I dont find the correct version for my firmware (previously the recoveries were versions 1.28, 1.29 etc.)
The page you linked has roms hosted on androidrevolution.nl, when I upgraded a few weeks ago I couldn't find the version I needed on that site (2.17.401.2). Or rather it had been taken down.
Here you have the stock 2.17 recovery

Thanks, but that's not what Im looking for.
The particular one I'm after is 3.14.401.27
Is there somewhere that keeps an archive of all these without having to download the RUUs for them?
Edit: when I said 2.17 I was talking about the LAST time I updated - sorry for the confusion.
Oke !
Here you have the 3.14

Thank you very much Mr Hofs,
Can I ask where you got these from?
Just so I dont have to bother people in future for recovery roms.
I found them in the stickies under the android dev section....there are many different tuts and guides ....
Now i stored them in my dropbox to help people out in here .... Its faster and i don't have to search anymore
maybe this is what your looking for. http://d-h.st/users/ClydeB1/?fld_id=8386#files
Hi, sorry for the stupid question but I'm kinda new to all this. I'm just wondering, if I flash a custom Rom on my phone, when sense 5 is released on the one x, will I still be able to get the update and install it without problems?
Thanks
If you think about updating stock HTC sense ROM than yes, of course, but you need reverse your phone to stock HTC software, boot.img and recovery.img (all in one with matching RUU or with nandroid backup+stock firmware that contains stock boot.img and recovery.img) if you ever flash custom ROM, boot, recovery or even root(if you have only root you need just flash stock recovery.img)!
If you think about getting Sense 5 for custom ROM, you need to find ported Sense 5 if or when it is available for specific custom ROM that you use in HOX developers threads probably!

Bit wrong info .... There are 2 ways
1:
To reverse to stock you only need your nandroid backup of the stock rom and the stock recovery. (Stock boot.img is inside the nandroid backup folder, the stock recoverys can be found here on xda)
You don't need a firmware.....
2:
Edit : ruu info is good
Hi, I have rooted my HTC one m8 and flashed the teamwin custom recovery. I was planning to install the google play edition rom but failed turning S Off with firewater, it didn't allow my device. I want to return to unrooted and with the stock recovery. I use a mac but have access to windows if needed. I am running the stock EE rom and haven't installed any custom roms. Thanks if you can help!

You don't need S-OFF to flash custom ROMs, if you want a GPE ROM then check out:
SinLessROM GPe v3.6.2
SkyDragon
Stock Google Play Edition
HTC One M8 Android Development Can look in there, it'll clearly state "Google play Edition ROM" or "GPE ROM" if it's just a normal ROM you can flash through recovery. No S-OFF required for that.
If on the other hand you want to fully convert your phone to a Google Play Edition device then it's a different matter and you WILL need S-OFF in order to do the conversion as it makes changes to partition sizes on your device.
More info about that here: [RUU] M8 Google Edition Conversion. 4.4.4 - RUU Zip Non-Rooted & Pre-Rooted
That being said, if you want to unroot your device just uninstall the root program(IF it's SuperSU you can uninstall from within the app) and flash back stock recovery for your device.
You can look in this thread:- COLLECTION of Stock backup's for a stock recovery to flash back to your device. fastboot flash recovery recovery.img make sure recovery.img is in folder where adb.exe/fastboot.exe is. So you'll need to have adb installed on computer.
You could also use an app like flashify to flash it but I don't usually recommend that as you won't really learn anything doing it that way

Whenever I try to uninstall the SuperSU within the app it never works, when I restart the phone it appears back again. Also I have tried looking for a recovery on the stock recovery post but mine isn't there, should I just wait for a stock recovery to be uploaded?

[GUIDE] Return your European M8 to 100% Stock At point 5 there is an app "unsupersu" that you might want to try and see if you can remove root with that.
What stock recovery? Also if your phone is stock again and you receive an OTA update(Or you have one stored somewhere) you can use the recovery.img that comes with the OTA. It's located inside the firmware.zip file.
Hello, i have red so many forums of how to update a rooted htc one m8, but there are so many opinions i'm left very confused. Some say you only need to flash stock recovery (never clarified which version of the recovery, the one in the update you are going to install or the one your device is currently at, mine is at 3.29.161.9), other say you need to Install Stock Nandroid Backup, flash the stock recovery and relock the bootloader. When i rooted my phone i unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP and from TWRP I installed SuperSU. So what is the actual procedure for updating a rooted HTC One M8?
1. You can install current firmware stock recovery or the version that you're going to update.
Doesn't matter, both work.
2. You need a clean stock non-rooted system which normally you can get from stock non-rooted nandroid backup. Restore the backup, install stock recovery then do OTA update... no need to relock bootloader.
