Hey guys,
So school is starting again. Ugh. I've been trying out different ROM and kernel combinations (AOSP and stock), yet none of them really fulfill what I'm looking for in a daily driver. I know this is kind of a cliche request, but I want to know from you guys (the XDA LG G3 community) what ROM and kernel combo you guys use, and maybe give your combinations a try since mine haven't been working out for me. Priorities:
BATTERY LIFE (this one I cannot stress enough, I need somethings that'll last me most of the day with music, some light to moderate browsing, and some moderate social networking)
Stability (I hate having to troubleshoot my phone on the go when I'm studying or working on other things)
Smoothness (I guess this just depends on the kernel and the phone usage, but some ROMs tend to be overloaded with customization features that I don't use but still bog my device down)
Again, this is just to get an idea of what I could possibly try out on my phone - any help and/or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!
I'm using BlissPop at the moment and it has good battery life and smooth compared to other ROMs. First thing is stay away from stock ROMs, they have awful battery life. AOSP is life.

If you don't mind me asking, what kinds of apps do you use and what is the battery life on your phone (like hours and minutes wise?)

Have a dumb question in which I am sure a lot of threads have been created about it but I cant seem to find one thread that at least displays what works on our T-Mobile variant SGS3.
What I want to know is what themes work, add-ons, tweaks, etc.
Themes: There are a lot to choose from with the "OMG 19 Themes" aroma install but there are a lot more themes that are located in the other SGS3 variant forums. I've managed to get one of the International version "Glass Theme" to work with a few adjustments. Basically it would be nice to see if there was a thread on here to show what themes work and what does not.
Add-ons:Multi-Window, Ink Effect (Multiple Colors), Pop-up Broweser, Volume Rocker Skip track, Back-To-Kill, Multi-Dpi TouchWiz apps, TouchWiz launcher features, etc...
A lot of these add-ons can be found in some of the TWRoms available but wouldnt it be nice to have a thread that gives us the freedom to have these be installed on any TWRoms?
Dumb thread I am sure but I am bored at work so....
Personally I like aosp roms such as cyanogemmod 10.1 over the touchwiz stuff, i just can't stand using the default stock sg3 rom, it's just annoying in a lot of ways. if you were to switch over to aosp i would give you suggestions on tweaks etc, i get blazing fast speeds of data at 8mb/s i get like amazing battery life, my battery usually lasts 2 days no charge before reaching 14% so I don't think touchwiz has all those features but hey I could give you one kernel that i recomend for you that also works on touchwiz, It's the kt747 kernel.
Here is link for that amazing powerful and battery saving kernel. forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1871946
make sure you download either touchwiz version or aosp kernel version because flashing aosp kt747 kernel on touchwiz rom will put u in a bootloop.
good luck

If you have any other AOSP (particularly cm10.1) tweaks mods or addons you would suggest I would love to hear what you are using....

Rawdaddy,
One good app i can suggest you find on the play store is the air push detector because that app will save you from malware bastards who make bad software that pushes spam notifications to your phone that drain your battery. air Push detector is like your antivirus or firewall or the malwarebytes of the phone world. it will knwo all malicious apps after it scans them.
i also use the room toolbox lite which allows you to get tweaks mods etc and even edit buildprops but i'd be careful when editing build props or using roomtoolbox make sure you backup your current rom so if u mess up any settings then you can always go back. One of the most important things I can suggest when it comes to watching downloaded movies on your big gs3 screen phone is to use BS PLAYER, u can get it from the android app store.
I've tested every movie player out there and the only one that is perfect and can run every video well without errors is the bsplayer, if u notice mobo player u might not hear sound but see video and mxplayer vice fersa yet bsplayer can play all hd 720p movies very well. I'm an online movie downloader from scene sites.
another suggestion i recomend is to stay away from MIUI roms and also Jovy's roms such as his xperia, it usually takes Jovy about 5 release updates to get things right, i've tried his roms and data doesn't work right and after im done talking to a person the proximity sensor gets screen stuck on black.
MIUI is just complete junk, i'm a crack flasher flashaholic and I know definately that stuff need serious work for people to even consider seriously, they want to imitate the ios look but the whole things is unstable and battery life sucks.
Use Liquidsmooth Rom if you want super stabiltity.
I'm enjoying the cm10.1 and facebook is working on it just fine.
I also dont' recomend installing themes on any cm10 build, battery life will die.
For battery tips I would recomend you clear battery stats before flashing a new rom and drain your battery all the way, let it fully die then plug it in without unpluging at all until it finishes charging and you should notice great improvement.
Also don't keep battery plugged in yor charger overnight after it's fully charged because i heard that puts excess electricity in your battery and phone causing issues and your battery life won't be prolonged.
Well to be honest ive pretty much tried every rom that there is available for us to use. Ive even tried AT&T roms. From stock ics touchwiz to jb touchwiz. Ive tried most if not all aosp roms aokp roms cm roms paranoid roms pacman roms and I'm still not able to stick with one rom.
Most if not all Aosp based roms suffer from screen flickering and the wake up black screen of death. Some roms have features I like while the others have better visual settings.
I recently just went back to TW roms. Thata why I want to know what I can do to improve my experience with these roms.

Umm. There is some questionable advice in this post. Clearing battery stats? Not sure the poster understands what that does based on his other misinformation. You can leave the phone on the charger overnight without any issues. The phone recognizes the full charge and allows it to run down a bit before charging again. In the morning when you pull it off the charger it may appear to discharge fast but that is because it was not a full charge. That is not an issue. Running the battery dry is also bad info. It can damage the cells in the battery. Don't trust me. Do a little research and see if you come to a different conclusion.

Ugh I am fed up with 4.2 at the moment (Data Speeds hang sometimes). Going to try another TW Rom. AeonFluxxV5 seems legit. Any one with any themes they would like to share???
Hi everyone..
I have been using many ROMs, to be honest i can't stay on one more than 10 hours.. I keep on switching between them..
So which one YOU would prefer from these:
1. [email protected] (4.1.2 with many things m, simple, clean, themes, etc.)
2. JellyBam (4.2.2 best mix of PA,AOKP,CM,AOSP..)
3. SilmBean (4.2.2 very small, clean, dpi 241, simple)
4. AllianceROM (4.1.2 Based with best AOSP feel)
5. Emotion ROM (4.1.2, i got the best battery life in this)
6. Phoenix ROM (4.1.2, many features)
I tried many others ROM such as ARHD, WanamLite, monixROM, miniTab, etc.. But i didn't like them
Im not a real "flasher" nor do i have lot of experience but i did like jellybam

I'm not really sure on your pick on the "Best Battery Life Rom". Personally I've tried most of the roms.
IMO:
Alliance Rom - Great Ui, Lots of junk apps(easily removed with Rom customizer.) Surprisingly good battery life. Able to get about 7 hours screen in time with the phone running around 12 to 20 hours. Depending on usage obviously.
Wanamlite - Used to be my daily driver and thought it had the best battery life. Not anymore. A light Rom but battery life was my concern so it had to go.
Emotion Rom(your pick as best battery life) - I had a the opposite experience. Battery life was so so. I would rate it the same as Wanamlite.
Omega Rom - and this is by far the best battery life I've gotten out of my note 2. Fast and smooth transitions. Goes into deep sleep without any kernel wakelocks. Most I had drained while asleep for 8 hours was 3%. I've had this for 2 weeks now and battery life is amazing.
I get a lot of phone calls, Whatsapp every 5 - 10 minutes, browse quite a bit too. Settings for my phone is basically everything that saves battery is turned off, except for 3G. Most of the time I'm out and about so I don't have wifi. I basically run on 3g throughout the day.
The best I've gotten from this Rom is about 10 hours and 30 minutes of on screen time at the end of the having about 1-5% left. I wish I kept the screenshot to prove it but I don't.
So to you new flashers out there, just try it out. You won't be disappointed.

For me, in Omega ROM i get 6-7 hours of display but in Emotion i got solid 9 hours of display.. 6 idle time with 0-1% battery loss.. In total of 15 hours..
Wanamlite i didnt like it.. I would go with Android Revolution instead..
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
Was it the latest Omega? Because on the previous versions I got around the same as what you mentioned but on v12 it's surprisingly good. I have have perseus kernel flashed but in the forums users have said to have been battery life with stock kernel.
I'd definitely try emotion again. But the only 2 things that bug me is the contact picture icons. It's somehow shrinked or stretched. I'm not the only one with this problem. PMed the developer about it but he never replied me. And the other problem is the toggles. Developer is currently using SF instead of wanams 23 toggles like before.
That's just my 2 cents. Cheers.

This is so random.. If 20 users say that x rom is the best, 20 others will say that y rom beats x rom and so on. There's too many variables to conclude anything like this.

Which rom has the most extras
hey guys, i want a rom with the most extras, tweaks and apps, basically i want a rom with everything possible so i can decide what i like and what i do not like, any recommendations?
and can you link me to an in depth tutorial on how to flash the note 2 from "official" firmware to the custom firmware
PhoeniX is the best for me as it has a lot of features and tweaks, plus, its really fast!
Thread closed as its a best ROM thread.
Hello, I'm from Viet Nam
I'm using stock rom
I just had the Galaxy s3 t mobile, but it's so out of battery quickly and very hot, I'm worried that my phone will Perishable because it is too hot.
Length of battery use it so bad, I have to charge it 4 times in one day, it was awful.
please show me the best battery saving rom . Thx.
It depends. You really need to try them out for yourself. Same for kernels, some will be excellent and others might not. Remember that all phones are different. However, you *should* get better battery out of ROMs based on official firmwares (aka Touchwiz).

As no one uses your phone like you do, only you can decide. Make a backup in recovery and flash a couple to decide.
This is why these threads are closed. They can not offer you a real solution as your issue may be caused by something not ROM related.
So I have been looking around the forums lately and I have noticed there is some talk about the difference in battery life with the screen on. Apparently touchwiz roms do better with the screen on and both roms go into deep sleep just fine. Does anyone else feel the same way about this? I for one feel I like the latest version of pa gets ok battery life (I can go for a whole day with moderate use) but i do see it dramatically drop when I'm using it (mostly reading this forum )
Share your thoughts.
I find that when I switch to a touchwiz rom I get better screen time at first, but after a week or so it gets progressively worse from all the bloat running. However the difference for me is maybe a half hour in my personal use. To me however it isn't worth it, I will always prefer AOSP.

Just received this phone and it seems pretty decent for having 4.2.2 but the battery drains like crazy on the phone and it seems that Cell Standby is using the battery the most on this phone at 86%. So is it worth putting Kit Kat on the phone or will battery drain still be a issue with the phone?
I see no reason why not.

Worthy from most aspects, except for battery, where it's mostly decided by how you use your phone. I just couldn't see any difference in battery usage between JB and KK.
Sent from Google Nexus 4 @ CM11
I felt quite a bit of performance difference between stock 4.3 and CM11...for example, RAM usage which would restart the launcher quite often on 4.3 is nearly gone and there are really no bugs to speak of, even in this early stage (I am using the latest stable build, but still...)
YES, I've found performance to be GREAT and best my device has run in a while(had huge ram leak issues before installing KK which caused SERIOUS lag issues)
As for battery life, there isn't very much you can do short of putting device into airplane mode and toggle on WiFi only.(yes you can use wifi in airplane mode)
I don't use carrier anymore, and this is the only time I've gotten a nice boost in battery life. The cell radios in this device (especially the CDMA/LTE version) just gulps down battery life like no other.
You will also see a nice boost just from disabling the cellular data fully or only using 3g.
4.3, I wouldn't even waste time downloading... Gawd I got so used to having to reboot three times a day just to rectify lags caused by memory leaks. So horrid.
I'm loving using this thing again thanks to KK
I haven't noticed a battery life gain, but I have definitely noticed a better overall performance and satisfaction level. I personally like how 4.4.x works and operates better than < 4.3 Maybe I just got burned out on that interface, but 4.4.x is a nice change that is definitely smooth and stable enough to enjoy. My $.05
I also just got GN used and battery life seems fine on CM 10.2.1 (18-22 hours avg.). You might want to consider that your phone is in need of a battery replacement if bought used, or that you are getting a weak signal in your area, making the radio work harder to maintain coverage. Is the phone currently activated? Either way, try airplane mode for the latter case like others have stated.
If you try KK, you might benefit all around from using a custom kernel. Make a nandroid backup before flashing one, look up a few videos on undervolting/overclocking, and check out Nephilim's custom kernel settings thread.
Good luck!

I used the OmniMetal ROM that is listed in the Android Dev section and was quite happy with the battery life. I could get up to 30-32 hours if the phone was left alone and only used to check the time occasionally. Then again, battery life is dependent on on phone usage, so mileage always varies.

There is a great sticky on the GSM GNexus development thread comparing the features of all the popular roms. It is very easy to miss if you have the verizon/sprint variant because those sections have their own set of sticky threads. Anyway, I highly recommend checking that list out since it will save you a ton of time

Are you talking about stock 4.3 or a custom rom? If not stock, then which rom? I've had the home screen refresh on me a few times on CM 10.2 but not as bad as you describe. Maybe I should upgrade for KitKat's lower memory footprint alone.
Remix Rom
Try the Remix Rom, based on KitKat, fast, stable and the battarydarain is awsome! :good:
I've tried out ParanoidAndroid 4.2 and CM11, they both work smooth and stable. As for the battery drain, flash Fancy Kernel and use some of the settings to squeeze some more life and better sound!
hope it helps
