Hi,
On doing the stock update to KitKat and also with a with custom Lollipop rom, my internal memory was reduced from 32GB to 16GB (with 10.11GB usable).
Can someone provide details of procedure to recover this memory.

Not internal memory, you have it mixed up with internal storage. The actual internal memory is 2gb and the internal storage is 32gb. But the actual sizes are 1.5gb and 24gb, since the missing spaces are used for system files. So if your internal storage is reduced to half of the storage, then you may need to format the storage. Flash the device back to the stock ROM should format the internal storage as well. Else use app such as link to SD to format and partition the internal storage.

Tks Hawkwind. Yes the internal storage is what I am referring to.
If I flash back to stock 4.1 then the 32GB internal storage may well reappear. However I updated via LG update to stock Kitkat and lost 16GB of the 32GB. So will I be able to do any update (from 4.1) or update to custom rom, without losing 16GB ?
Am I an isolated case here ? Has everyone else (with a 32GB internal storage version) successfully updated to Kitkat with no loss ?

You can flash the stock kk rom, and see if that gives you back your lost half of storage space.

No joy, using CWN, I wiped data, system caches. Unmounted cache and system memory. Did a stock install of factory 4.1, and still have not recovered original
32GB of internal storage.
PS. I used stock Android 4.1 KDZ file from here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2460859
Hong Kong E98810D_00.kdz
Question would this file be phone specific (like maybe it is for a 16GB version of the phone, and not the 32GB version ???)
Therefore maybe I need a stock version for a 32GB E988 model ? Any advise pls.
I believe this will be resolved
After more searches, it would appear that the KDZ file needs to be device specific.
Therefore I will be looking for either a KitKat or Lollipop rom which is for a 32GB specific version.

Hi everyone,
I was at a store today, looking at a Galaxy tab 10" running android 4.2.2.
What I noticed when I checked settings/storage, was that it had no more internal Sdcard0 but a full 16gb partition running the Android system and about 5-6Gb free space for additional programs to install??
So here is my guestion: is this possible on the Note N5110?
What I want to do (if possible) is to "delete" the "stock" SdCard0 and expand the internal 16gb internal mem to one partition.
Then, (if i'm correct) when an SDcard of 64Gb (or less) is inserted, it will be recognized as SdCard0 instead of ExtSdcard.
I have rooted my N5110 and changed the 64Gb to be Sdcard0 and the 10gb as ExtSDcard, but that's a bit buggy sometimes.
It swaps the SDcard0/ExtSDCard mem around from time to time depending on which program you start (very annoying).
Has anyone done this? Did I miss a thread in XDA?
I tried searching, but couldn't find if this is possible or not.
Hope anyone want to answer my question
thanks!!
Wow, nobody?
I'm sure you can "trick" the android os to use the full internal rom instead of creating partitions right?
if there is a thread I missed, please let me know.

There is a script that allows you to flip the sd for the internal, which then allows apps to be installed to the sd card. Dont know if this is the kind of solution you are looking for. ?...Check link below, its for the note 2 so any and all damages done are on your head....

Yes, i've seen that script, used it, it works fine.
but, what I mean is, is there a way to combine the internal (stock) memory on the device.
Here is how I see it:
the device has 16gb internal memory in total.
however, 6gb has been partitioned for the android OS.
10gb is your internal storage to use. (that's 6gb os partition and 10gb external partition = 16gb
so my question again, can I combine those tow to 1 partition = 16gb OS partition and use the external SD card I bought as sdcard0.
one more time;
current setup:
6gb OS
10gb = sdcard0
64gb = ExtSdCard
what I want =
16gb OS
64gb sdcard0
just simple math. but maybe not possible?
And thanks for your reply mygraine :good:
Somehow along the way, I used a Rom that changed my internal storage.
I've been on two different roms now and the storage won't revert back. Any ideas?

Flash a ROM for 32GB device (e980). You've probablly flashed sth for e986 which is 16GB.
ATM, I'm on Beanstalk, which is a first class Rom.
I may temporarily flash back to stock just to clear up the storage and then flash back. This Beanstalk is the best!
Unfortunately, Camera has stopped.

well I flashed the sphinx 2.0 rom for the e980 (32 gb), I had normally 23.xx gb available, now I have 7gb and lost all my files. Looks like there's a old hidden partition, but I can't see it.

When you factory wipe and flash a new rom there are probably old files still on the internal storage that don't get deleted. Those files take up space, but don't read under storage. Get ES File Explorer from the Play Store. Go to device>data>media. There you probably have your old downloads, media and pics. Delete that whole media folder and your space is back. (Backup or copy the files if needed before deleting) You may have to reboot your phone.

The problem comes when you update from JB to KK on any custom rom with different mount point for SDCARD.
for JB its i guess "/DATA/media/" and for KK its "/DATA/media/0/"
ok here is the solution,...
I hope yours is rooted, follow following procedure:
1) install any root compatible file manager. I prefer "Xplore by lonely cat games"
2) go to "/Data/Media"
3) delete all the folders except "../0/". you can also backup files
Et voila ,.....
Storage problem
I have upgrade the INS Frimware In KSA Mobile J7 pro to enable volte and its successfully done but my phone storage is changed 64Gb to 16Gb Please Help
Hi all,
I have a question regarding a phone i own. I flashed cm13 on it and i see it shows only 11.xx GB. Is this normal ? The phone is 16gb
Thanks
I own a 32 gb model and storage wise i think i only have 24 available so much is reserved for system partition plus other partitions efs aboot ect so id about say its normal
I know but on my wifes Galaxy s5 it shows her internal space is 16gb and if i remember correctly my phone showed that as well on the stock lg firmware. See video what i mean. CM13 shows something else (picture first post)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&persist_app=1&v=_VzCganiKo8
Mine does that after a while what I usually to do is if there is nothing you need on internal storage is to boot into twrp wipe internal storage ,making sure you have your rom on ext card (don't want to wipe that do we) then flash my rom.
This leaves me from a clean install with about 8 or 9 gb left to use on internal storage.I think what happens over time is a lot of useless files tend to build up on internal card and this is the reason you don't have much space left and also the operating system takes up quite a bit as well.
just buy a 64gb micro sdcard... or even a 32gb if you don't need much more, they are really cheap.
part of the missing space is the partition information space and the space used by the system/recovery/cache etc. on android 6.0 you can format it as internal.
How can i format that space ? I am running CM13 that uses Android 6.0.1
Here another screenshot from the recovery, why does the recovery not say i have 16GB ???? i don't really understand why it's not listed.
Because it shows available storage not total
Oke thanks for the answer.
First off, English is not my first language so apologies for any mistakes or misunderstandings.
Anyway, I used Android 6 to format an SD card as internal storage. I understand that I can never use it as anything else but internal storage this phone and this phone only. Now I want to sell this phone(Samsung Galaxy S4 mini) but before I do I want to revert back to Samsung stock ROM, Android 4.4.2 - I think that is the latest available. At least that's the one I downloaded from sammobile.
Are there any problems with that? Could I brick the phone because of the SD card? Could I simply remove the SD card or would that cause problems? Does the phone even know that there is an SD card? Could I ever replace it with another SD card? Any other thing I should be aware of?
I also don't really know how to google this since I usually just find tutorials to format the sd card as internal storage so any and all help is very much appreciated.
you can format it to external device to feel safe and no it has no effect on reverting back to 4.4.2. there is no system or firmware files in it. just flash the stock firmware through odin and good luck.
Hi, my name is Julian, I am a newbie and I've got two big problems with the Galaxy J5(I think 2016) with 8GB internal and a 32GB SD Card, Stock Gapps and Lineage Os:
Internal Storage Issue
The Phone constantly says “Not enough Storage”, although there are NO extra Apps installed, except Whatsapp, and he has no personal Data(Images, movies, etc....)
BUT when I look in the Storage option in the Settings, the Calculation is not correct. It says : 3Gb for Android, 1,5GB for Apps and maybe 0,5Gb for Data, but the rest is not showing up.
SD Card to Internal Issue
So because of the 1. Issue, we decided to format the SD Card as an internal Storage. We searched up where this Option is to find and then we tried it. During the process it told us that we would free up about 2Gb of the Internal when moving stuff to the new formatted SD, so we did it, but after all There is no Extra Storage, and we are still not able to install apps from Google Play to the SD Card.(And it also says that 16GB of the SD Card are for the Android System, even if there are only 2 small Files or so).
I would be really thankful if you could try to fix our problems, because we can't go back to Stock because the Backup was broken and the copy from the PC doesn't even show up in TWRP(nor with the Backup function, neither with the File explorer function).

I don't have this device but, since there's no Official LineageOS released and, your not sure which J5 you have, here's the only Unofficial LineageOS 14.1 that's currently active that's specific to the J5 (2015).

Storage is a general problem. Not device specific.
It is no good idea to use stock GApps. A minimal gapps is enough. You can install Google apps from play store.
WhatsApp doesn't use adapted storage AFAIK. Especially videos use much memory. Delete them all.
