I usually protect my phone via a 4-digit pin that is always requested when display wakes up.
Is there any way to unlock the phone after the 4th digit has been correctly entered, without having to press th OK button also ?
This may sound a stupid feature (enter four digits instead of five) but it may result very useful when you only have one hand available.
Other phones, with stock (i.e. Ascend P7) or custom roms (i.e. Galaxy S3 with Cyanogenmod or AOKP) offered such feature, but cannot find in in the G4.
Many thanks

I found this but it needs to modified to work for lollipop. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2279039
Thanks man will give it a try.
I just can't understand why we need to press ok first to unlock our phone....it's such a stupid design
I use GravityBox via Xposed to enable unlock without pressing ok. Easy fix if you're rooted and can use Xposed.

At least for Verizon, your PIN can be 4 digits or more (up to 16). So my guess is that this is for security reasons.
Let's say, for discussion, your PIN is 11111 (5 of them).
If I was trying to guess your PIN, I might start by just hitting a whole bunch of 1's. If the phone is only waiting for me to get it right, then as soon as I type 11111, it automatically unlocks. But if I have to enter a PIN, and then press OK submit it, this process gets more difficult. If I enter 111111 (6 of them, instead of 5), then press OK, it stays locked.
Admittedly, this explanation doesn't work if the number of digits is fixed at 4. But if you have the option to use a longer PIN, then it makes sense, to me, as a security measure.
Alternately, you might consider using Knock Code. This lets you select a pattern (for Verizon, 3-8 taps) on the screen. But it can be entered even with the screen off (it will detect the proper code, then automatically turn the screen on and unlock). You don't have to hit OK, and you can also enter it anywhere on the screen, if the screen is off. So it's good for doing 1-handed, even if you aren't looking at the screen. You don't need to hit any particular items on the screen, just make the proper pattern.

Hi All!
I found a few threads on the Internet in different forums with no answer so I thought I'll ask the pros:
When I'm using Pin or Password to unlock the phone, I get the standard lockscreen display before I can unlock the phone, so it goes:
On/Off Button -> Lock Screen -> Pin / Password
The problem is when I'm using an unlock pattern, the lock screen gets skipped, so it goes:
On/Off Button -> Unlock Pattern
This is very annoying since I like to use the lockscreens mute function without having to unlock the phone. Apparently there is no way of changing this with settings so I was wondering if anyone know of a patch or another way to have the lockscreen AND the unlock pattern?
I'm using the Oxygen 2.0 RC6 Gingerbread Rom on my Desire but this seems to be a generel "issue" with stock Android Roms (Hero Roms and Froyo Roms is the same) - Sense based Roms behave different.
Thx for any hint!
*bump*
I am having a similar issue and my searching only found this thread.
While at work (2/3rds of my waking life) I use my phone at work to see where my next appointment is. It's very convenient to just glance down and see what meeting I have next by only hitting the power button. From what I have seen there are a lot of apps which will add this functionality to the lock screen.
The problem is when I add a passcode (required by work) it replaces the unlock screen with the passcode screen. I have seen that other Android phones do not do this, but the Captivate does. I've tried four different roms and all have this same behavior.
Is it possible to have the unlock screen come up, and when the phone is unlocked to prompt the passcode? I can't find a setting anywhere and the third party apps like Flylock have a jarring user experience in this configuration.
Thanks

The purpose of the pattern lock is to prevent unauthorized use of the phone. So it doesn't make sense if you put the lock screen over the pattern lock(or combined them) as you, or any stranger, will be able to issue commands(mute, read messages, weather, music etc. there are lots of widgets running on the lock screen) to the phone BEFORE unlocking it.
The security of the pattern lock will be totally compromised.
So the only choice is pattern lock over lock screen. I don't see how this makes anything easier. And I won't go into how it will create huge security loopholes/bypass the pattern lock completely if widgets or anything is allow to run on/over the lockscreen.
Perhaps I am using the wrong terminology, I should be referring to it as the "Unlock Screen" (Settings -> Display -> Unlock Screen). From this screen it appears that you can:
1) View the time
2) Unlock the phone
3) Mute the phone
4) See the notification bar (Vibrate, Battery, Signal, Pending notifications, etc)
I would actually like to add:
5) Next calendar appointment with location
6) Weather
This is all actions / information I want available at a glance and without unlocking the phone. Once I attempt to unlock I would like to be presented with the pattern / pin security. In this way all my private information remains hidden, but the information I use the most often while walking / driving is readily available.
I am also good with anyone else being able to pick up my phone and perform the actions I listed on the unlock screen. I believe this information is available from the unlock screen on the Windows Phone and iPhone (assuming it's your only notification, their notification system sucks).

That PERMISSION to allow you do issue commands to your phone will compromise the security of the pattern/pin lock screen. You need to understand the core concept of the pattern lock screen is to be secure - no unauthorized use of the phone, whether it's as small as viewing notifications to fullon running widgets/apps.
Plus your definition of being secure doesn't equate to everyone's definition of security. It fine for you to display messages on the securely locked phone but it's definitely not for some of my friends who have really sensitive data on their phone.
I was not trying to advocate this behavior to everyone, just wondering if it was possible to set this up myself. One of the things I like about this phone is that everyone can customize it to fit their own tastes.
Actually, I think I found my solution. Flashed to CM7 last night. The pattern screen still had the behavior as the 2.2 roms but the passcode had the behavior I was looking for.
Well the thing is: When using PIN or Password to unlock, you can actually use the lockscreen to mute etc. before unlocking. And using the original HTC Rom, this is possible using unlock pattern, too. Everyone will have to decide for themself if he cosiders this function a thread to security, its just really annoying that I have to decide between unlock pattern and unlock screen even tho it should not be a problem technicaly. Cyanogen guys apparently have this on their list, but with minor priority. I'm really close to moving back to a HTC rom actually...
this bugs me too.. I like the PATTERN cause it's kind of unique and cool plus when you enter your pattern there is no "OK" key you have to press like you do when using PIN/PASSWORD which for some reason annoys me.. I suppose it's another line of defense against prying eyes that make it that much more work to try different pin options.. I don't know maybe it's to annoy them into giving up?.. Anyways, I've opted to use the PIN option because I too like seeing the Lock Screen and any info it has and I really don't see it as that big a security hole seeing the small amount of info on the lock screen.. unless you're running a ROM or app that has popups for messages and such.. and if it really is then Google should make the behavior that you do pattern then to the lock screen. of course I'm sure their reasoning for this is the pattern is a more difficult form of security to breach so there is benefit and no harm from taking you straight into the unlocked phone once the correct pattern has been entered. that doesn't mean we have to agree with the mighty G on this and I'm sure either Devs cooking in the ROM kitchen could change the behavior if they saw the want in the community, maybe a patch could be made or an app that changes the behavior. anyways, that's my $.02
If any of you guys find a solution around this issue please let us know!
Haven't seen any solution yet, how about you guys?
Guys, have a new One X. Am gonna leave it on the stock rom for a few weeks.
How in the name of god do you disable the ring swipe unlock screen?
Even when I put in none, it's still there. When I put in PIN unlock, I have to swipe the ring first, then put in my PIN. It's seems pointless
Thanks
just unlock it, you will get much better performance using arhd rom and do things like adfree (remove ads from free aps) and reset minfree values for multi tasking, etc.
let me put it mildly, the stock rom sucks,
You're confusing device lock with screen lock. If you only had a pin (device lock, for security) you would be forever unlocking and entering the wrong pin while in your pocket.
The ring part (screen unlock, to prevent unwanted input) can't be removed without modification.
Thanks. Looks like customised rom it is so!

Right, I unlocked it and stuck Android Rev. HD on it. So far so good. Seem like a nice ROM, even for the lack of bloatware coming from the stock ROM.
I can't find this customization. Does it exist? Am I stuck the ring unlock?
Thanks
I for one would also like to disable the ring lock seems like overkill as you still have to press the volume button to activate the phone
so these are the precautionary steps:
1. Power button
2. Swipe Ring
3. Security feature (Facial Recognition, Pin, Pattern)
I think as @flanobrian stated we want to cut out part 2 of the process
its just abit of overkill that I would like to control
Yes, the problem is, I've the phone set up for Microsoft Exchange for my work emails, which requires me to also put in a 5 digit pin. It's a pain in the ass have to swipe the ring and also do the pin.
Android always has a lockscreen so you will always have to unlock it and then enter your pin, regardless of Android version

My previous Galaxy S didn't have that. All I had to do was hit the home button and the enter the PIN?
i dont know if this is what you want but try this to get rid of (ring unlock) go into settings - personalize - then lock screen styles and go to the last one it is called
No Lock Screen and apply
i did this and now no longer have to use the ring just power button and im in
hopefully i read this right and
hope this is what you wanted
New GSIII user (just got it for Black Friday). 2 questions relating to the lock screen.
1. I read another post sort of related to this, but not really (almost the opposite in fact, he wanted the pattern or pin lock but had other issues). So, I have my lock screen set to unlock with only the swipe. Why are none of the advanced lock screen options available unless you choose a more stringent unlock option (like pattern or PIN)? Even with just plain swipe, I want a delayed lock after the screen shuts off, and and I want to st DISABLE the instant lock with the power button. Is there any way to do this without having to set a more stringent unlock method? And if not, what possible reason would the designers have for now allowing those other options without using a higher unlock method?
2. Not sure if this due to the lock screen, or a bug with Bluetooth, or a combination of both. I actually tried playing with a pattern unlock screen, but when I have that enabled I can't do Bluetooth voice dialing. I press the Bluetooth headset offhook button, and the phone wakes up, but then it just sits at the pattern unlock screeen and won't respond to voice until I unlock the pattern. But if I revert to just a plain swipe unlock, then the Bluetooth voice dialing works just fine (I press the headset button, phone wakes up AND listens for voice). Bluetooth voice dialing is a CRITICAL function for me.
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!
I got hold of a Samsung tech via live chat on their web site and he confirmed that this is how it it works. I suggested these were poor design decisions and asked they pass along my request to ask that these be changed in a future update (of course, no gurantee that there will even be a future update, but I can hope).
Verizon Pixel 2....so not unlocked bootloader/root.
Someone stole my wife's phone, smashed it up, and dumped it on the side of the road. Able to find it with locate my phone. Can't unlock it because battery died and she used fingerprint unlock, so trying to find a way so we can recover pics of the kiddos at baseball. It is responding, I can feel it vibrate when trying to unlock with fingerprint....but since it was restarted it is requiring her pin code. Any ideas?

if it is locked with a pin you have a chance if a pattern you are out of luck.
here is where to start
get your otg adapter from the box plug in a keyboard.
try to unlock with fingerprint
enter pin on keyboard
if it works from there i will tell you key combos to do what you want
It is locked by pin, but I don't have a keyboard. I'll see if I can find one in the next few days here to give it a shot

Thanks for all the info. She has a tablet with the same account on it, so I'll see if I can get it to install a screen mirroring app.
Ok, got a keyboard/mouse combo on the way. I shouldn't need much, besides getting it to unlock to be able to pull what I need...but just in case if you know the shortcuts to get to USB debugging, or even better, to get to screen casting, and could post them, that would be awesome.

11.down 13, enter

I am coming from a Samsung Galaxy Note 10+. I use the pin as my lock screen security and the Samsung phone had a setting wherein it would automatically unlock the phone on entering the correct pin. On my P6Pro, I need to do one extra step of hitting the enter key. Is there a setting or any way to by-pass it?
I use the pin more than fingerprint scanner by habit.. especially after checking some notification. I know the by-passing the enter key might not be good security but I like options.
Any help?
How would it know when you make it to the end of the pin? You know it doesn't have to be 4 digits, right? Mine is 7 digits. Or do you want it to actually try the pin after each digit is entered? (very bad)
Most 3rd party ROMs have this option... I also prefer it to just unlock when the pin is correct without hitting enter but is obviously not as secure
No way to bypass it yet, but it won't surprise me if eventually there will be a way, even on stock (rooted). It's only annoying for me after a reboot or when/if there are random forced checks on the lockscreen, since I use the fingerprint reader otherwise.

I dunno. I've used it that way for years and never had a problem. I mean if I enter it wrong now and think it's right then I have no way of knowing because the characters are masked. So I still end up hitting enter. Also the device only accepted max six digits.
