Hey all,
I'm looking to upgrade my T-Mobile S6 to 5.1.1. I'm currently rooted (via pingpong) on 5.0.2. All of the rooting instructions for 5.1.1 involve flashing a separate ROM. I'd like not to have to do that. Is there a way to just root the stock image?

Hello everyone I am a new to android and flashing roms on kit kat and lollipop. Right now I have a stock LG G3 D851 (T-mobile) running android 4.4.2 kit kat. I plan on rooting this phone but I need to clear something up first. If I root my 4.4.2 phone and install twrp, could I flash CM 12.1 or Cloudy G3 2.3 or would I have to update to official lollipop 5.x.x, root, install twrp, then flash those roms?

You do not have to update before installing new roms. After your rooted, intalled Twrp and so on, you are good to go.
Make sure you read all about rooting and flashing rooms before doing so. The guides here are very helpful. Even if you have done it before each phone has its own process.
I searched all the forums but could not find an upgrade procedure for those who want to upgrade 4.4.4 to 5.1 on a GPE rooted tablet with TWRP custom recovery.
Is this possible?
Do I need to go back to stock recovery, unroot, take the OTA and root again?
Thanks for your help. :good:
Hi my friends, I am looking for a STOCK RECOVERY for my LG G Pad F 8.0 AT&T (V495). I was trying to do an OTA upgrade to 6 but after the Download and restart the installation is giving me an error because i am ROOTED. I need to flash stock recovery to be able to install new OTA upgrade to Marshmallow 6. Is someone have a 5.0.2 STOCK Recovery or maybe another idea on how can I do and upgrade to Marshmallow 6 I will appreciate any help. Thanks
Is there a KDZ or TOT available for your variant?
I am in the same boat. I can not find the stock rom anywhere. I would like to upgrade to to 6.0. I am rooted with king root. If the stock rom is not found is there a way to unroot and delete all root files so the update does not detect the root so we can update?

In order to take OTAs (starting with Lollipop) you have to never have been rooted (since the most recent time you've flashed a KDZ or TOT).
Unrooting isn't enough.
Greetings,
I have been looking for a while, but still cannot find an answer. Any help would be great.
I have G3 ATT D850, unlocked and running on TMo, stock 6.01, unrooted.
I would like to install latest lineage ROM.
Trying to find the step by step instructions but cannot so far.
Most apply to rooted phones. This one is hard to root at 6.01 version.
My understanding is all I need is to unlock bootloader to load custom ROM and custom recovery, but I cannot figure out how to do that.
Any ideas?
Thanks much

Interested in a question
I'm also interested in custom or normal instruction for getting root or twrp/
Pretty sure we need to begin by downgrading back to android 4 Kitkat if running lolipop, then go from there. I'm hoping to run a custom rom on mine too.
In my signature. "[VK810.4G][altev] most reliable way to root/install custom recovery"
