Hello
My device is running on 2.19.40.22 & it is rooted.
I am trying to update the firmware to latest update which is 2.20.40.59.
I tried 2 methods, viz:
1. Copying update file in internal memory & restarting the device.
2. Using ADB sideload.
Result
While trying to update from internal memory, it shows installing system update for some time & than shows "Error" with a dead android bot(same which is displayed when entering recovery mode).
While updating using sideload method, it transfers the file successfully to the device & when it tries to install, it says file is not proper.
Please help someone.
Thanks

Before updating 2.20.40.59 you need update 2.20.40.58 first.
After update 2.20.40.59
Now it updated after I downloaded the version from official asus website directly to 2.20.40.59 without updating to version 58.
But I lost root priviledges. How to root the device back again???

I have an LG G3 on T-Mobile, running android 4.4.2 and my software version is D85110r. I downloaded and installed Stump Root and when I load the app it says "Device is already Rooted". Then I remember I had previously rooted the phone last summer when I got it. But I'm having issues with several apps not working because of root permission. So then I download and install SuperSU and when I run it, it gives me the message, "There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it." It then says something about if you have android 4.3 you need to re-root your phone. How do I proceed? Do I need to un-root my phone and then re-root? Thanks for any help you can provide!
Anyone?
same here. I am not on 4.3 but still getting the same message. Fix?

Hello! I had no problems rooting my F400k with this root tool.. I also tried rooting with Stump but it failed many times.. I suggest format your phone then try this root tool. Look at number 5 of this post.
Attached is the root tool. Good luck

You've flashed other root tools like Stump, etc.. right? It probably left some files behind after unrooting.. Factory reset and try that root tool again.. I've always used it and rooting was a breeze!:fingers-crossed::good: If you have updated to the latest firmware then maybe rooting isn't possible at the moment. Try downgrading to the previous version you had after you've factory resetted and used that root tool.. Good luck mate!
Dear all,
I hope anyone can help me. I am trying to update to the latest Android version which I got OTA today. I have rooted my device and I am running TWRP (version 2.8.5.0) since some time. (Rooted it to restore some apps using Titanium backup). When I try to update using the OTA my device boots into recovery. When I choose install and select the downloaded zip file my device gives me the following error:
E: Zip signature verification dailed: 1
Disabling the ZIP verification doesn't work as I will just get another error message.
I have tried sideloading the ROM using adb commands but so far this hasn't worked either.
Anyone can give me some directions as how to continue from here? I would really like to update my device to Android 5!
Update with solution (for me):
What worked for me was downloading the OTA update like I would normally do. Then connect the phone to the computer and copy the downloaded update file to the computer (should be located on internal memory/download/). Once you have the file on your computer extract it, and then extract the file 'firmware'. Inside this second file should be a recovery.img. If you flash this recovery to your phone (no need to unroot or relock your bootloader) you will then be able to install the update.
That's because you need stock recovery to flash OTA. It won't work with TWRP because the OTA ZIP works different than a custom ROM.
Go back to stock everything and it'll work.
Or wait a couple of days till the boys here come up with a lollipop rom.
Ok thanks a lot, that'll help me I'll let you guy know if I run into any more problems.
how revert back to stock rom

Use these two files. First restore the stock nandroid using twrp (remember to choose NO when twrp prompts you to install supersu and root rom).
After you successfully restore the backup, flash stock recovery.
That should take care of it.

in usual way of that you have to put update file in Download folder in internal memory(after that you may have to restart) and then go to setting > about > software update, checking for update and wait the way that should be.

placed ota file in download folder then restarted the phone. Then check for update but still the same message "there are no updates available for your phone"
So i just got the ota update today the lollipop for my country (Egypt) i had phone rooted with custom recovery TWRP i tried installing the update and failed.. then i flashed the stock recovery and still fails...gone to supersu and settings and unrooted it and tried again, still fails...
relocked the bootloader and STILL fails this now got me so mad because upon every install failure i had to redownload the update (it takes a long time tho) so if anyone could help me here i will be so thankful.

Now obviously anyone on these forums knows the deal here, if it's flashable it's risky, but this raises some flags that need addressed.
This is for the AT&T yes? If I'm not mistaken, this device has a locked bootloader, so then it goes without saying that your custom recovery flash only is untested. So is the expectation that users here are supposed to test it?
This is only the stock update put in a zip, then I cleaned some of the updater. This way if your on stock kitkat with custom recovery you can take the ota. There's zero risk here other than what Samsung messed up. I assumed it would be obvious we can use them yet because of not having root. I've done this a lot for several devices it's crazy easy to do,and you only need to change its zip and clean the updater.

Hi guys.
Today I checked for system updates and I found one, around 92 Mb, i have rooted and install framework xposed with a couple of modules and uninstall some of the bloatware, just regular uninstall nothing fancy like using Titanium Backup, so pretty much I have most of the bloatware.
Now I try to apply the update but it fail, got a "dead android" with a error message.
Luckily my phone didn't went into a bootloop or anything similar.
Now my question is how do I proceed in order to apply the update?
If you can be as specific as much as you can I would really appreciate. Been using Samsung phone for the last 4 years and I've been using Odin or Twrp to inject or flash in the Samsung phone and I know this phone take a different approach.
Thanks in advance for your help.
To be honest I would like to see a process where you don't lose any settings or data
Have you tried holding the power button, then (while holding power button) quickly press Vol up and release and then release power button when you get the "dead android".
After rooting I get the "dead android" whenever I enter recovery, the above method works every time.

The OTA links are available here on XDA, there is a dedicated thread for it.

Hi I m really new to this so excuse me ...
i got many updates by flashing with fastboot prerooted system.img i was on 2.19.40.18 prerooted but i would like to go to a stock no rooted to be able to apply OTA now
I tried an erase of my phone, but i came back to prerooted ...
I tried to install tethered TWRP and to install the.zip from asus download page but it was stuck on updating IFWI .... ( 2.19.40.20 zip file from asus )
What can i do ?
Plz help me
You need to go into the SuperSU settings, scroll to near the bottom and choose "Full unroot."
I did all on this post : http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/general/guide-to-apply-ota-bootloop-rooted-zf2-t3127835
I did unroot, flashed all 4 line before but i think my recovery is corrupted, it end in error with the green guy instantly and flashin via fastboot recovery.img isnt doing anybetter ...
I m really stuck ..
i was trying an adb sideload with a stock rom is this a good idea ? i got error protocol fault ...

Protocol fault is because you don't use latest ADB. Google it.
i successfully did this but now adb is stuck on serving 13 % and on the phone : verifying update package , it stopped like 15 min ago ...
Here's what I did to go from pre-rooted system back to stock.
1. Download the official latest image from Asus http://www.asus.com/support/Download/39/1/0/13/Lk0Sg1Ulh0Ph49Hl/32/
2. Rename the zip to MOFD_SDUPDATE.zip
3. Unroot via SU
4. Uninstall Xposed and modules if you have them busybox etc. (uninstall.bat for xposed it's easy)
5. Copy MOFD_SDUPDATE.zip to an SD card and insert into phone or copy to internal memory
6. Boot into recovery by holding power and volume up
7. If you get dead android press power button and volume up button and release.
8. Auto installs new image
I went this route after unrooting via SU and uninstalling xposed framework still wouldn't let me run OTA updates for some reason. I imagine I did something along the road or removed a system app or something. It wouldn't let me manually sideload or update and would error out halfway through the process. I cleared fastboot cache and even reset the device to no avail. I was on 2.19.40.18. I installed the 2.19.40.20 image then the OTA update to .22 yesterday.
If I root the device again which is likely I'll use method 3 and the rootkit tool.
i will try your way, installing the 22 now.
But i dont remember in recovery the auto installs new image ?
error in recovery trying to update the .22 like you said, i need to put the .20 before the .22 ?

I installed the 2.19.40.20 full system image (1.1GB) from Asus yesterday. They didn't have the full image for .22 up but they do now. I was on the .18 pre-rooted image. When you hold power and volume up choose recovery and it should install the MOFD_SDUPDATE.zip automatically (mine did). I had issues trying to manually update the phone from .18 to .20 and .22 via ADB (the patches are like 30MB). It would start the update with the android robot then fail about halfway.
Download the correct system image for your device. The new update is available as a full image now so download the .22 image from Asus and then rename it to MOFD_SDUPDATE.zip. Copy it to an SD card and insert it back into your phone. Phone is powered off so hold power and volume up to get the recovery screen. It will say Normal in a big green arrow. Change it to recovery via the volume buttons then hit power button and it should find and automatically install the MOFD_SDUPDATE.zip image.
FYI this is on a ZE551ML 4GB/64GB US WW firmware based phone. I imagine the other models are the same or very similar.
I wish I could articulate this better. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable comes along and lends a hand.
Hi, want to ask.
Previously i root by using Method 1 (PRE-ROOTED SYSTEM.IMG).
can i use your method to revert to stock rom and root again using Method 3 (1 CLICK ROOT TOOL)?

Flashing the entire system image you want to wipe everything anyways in this case. If you mean using the one click rootkit (method 3) to root then no it will not.
Yea. I'm hoping someone finds a way to return this to a "never been rooted" device where the OTA actually works.

Flash the .18 pre-rooted, then don't update SuperSU binary. Take OTAs as needed.
If OTA doesn't show up, download the OTA and adb sideload into stock recovery.

I've done that before, with any OTA, it'll give me the error droid when installing. That's when I said screw it, and try to unroot. And now I'm stuck with that error no matter what.

Only thing that caught my attention is: Unable to open '/sdcard/MOFD_SDUPDATE.zip': No such file or directory.
This was last attempt unrooted and this morning's OTA
