I rooted and installed an ICS ROM several months back on my Fire. One morning the wife brings it in and says my son got it stuck in some weird mode. Turns out it is stuck on the TWRP yellow triangle and does not seem to be able to get into recovery mode. I have done that several times before so I am pretty confident I am not messing that up. Just the power button never turns orange and eventually the device just turns off. My computer see the USB device but ADB does not. I did `android update adb` and then added '0x1949' to '~/.android/adb_usb.ini'. Do I have any options left or is it bricked?
Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read this. Especially to any who can reply with suggestions.

ADB will not work because you're in fastboot mode. Use fastboot commands to install the new TWRP and change the bootmode.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery /path/to/recovery.img
fastboot oem idme bootmode 5001
Hold the power button to perform a hard shutdown and restart the device. You should then be able to launch recovery using the power button. If not, you'll have to flash the bootloader as well. If this is the case, be extremely careful you don't pull the USB cable during the flash or you will really brick your device.
Also, it is very important to know that the version of FFF you'll download comes in a .zip format to be flashed in recovery. Don not flash the .zip file directly to your bootloader partition. Instead, unzip it and find the "fff-u-boot_v1.4.bin" located in the cache folder and flash it.
Code:
fastboot flash bootloader /path/to/fff-u-boot_v1.4.bin
fastboot reboot
If you were able to access recovery just by reinstalling it with the first command, push the FFF1.4.zip file to your sdcard and flash it in recovery. Just remember not to wipe anything before installation. That will help you to fix your bootmode problems a lot easier in the future by holding the power button untill the boot options appear at the bottom.

Thank you! I am back in recovery!
I've been trying to root my Kindle Fire running 6.3.3. I bought a fastboot cable and got it to boot into fastboot mode to flash TWRP and firefirefire. I ran the commands and TWRP failed but firefirefire installed. Now when the kindle boots I get the firefirefire bootloader but it cant boot into the recovery because the TWRP never installed. Also, I can't get it to fastboot anymore, not even with the cable. Can anyone please help me get TWRP installed? I've read many forums and tried about everything I found.

FFF bootloader supports fastboot commands, but the flash command is now
fastboot flash recovery file name
ie drop the -i 0x1949
Code:
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-otter.img
because the fastboot mode window is short
with kindle connected to pc, power off kindle, enter commands, then power on kindle

I've been trying this for about 30 minutes or so with no luck...I even downloaded a different version of the twrp image. Do I have to wait for the fastboot screen to start the command or do I start the process before powering on the device? I'm not really sure what I'm doing wrong here.

Should be able to do it either way but I press enter, before the power button
This will not work if drivers are not correct
could try
Code:
fastboot devices
as a test should get something like
Code:
123456789 bootloader
back in command prompt
I finally got it to work and I can't thank you enough. You were right. I knew my computer recognized the device with adb in normal boot but my computer wouldn't recognize the device in fastboot mode until i reinstalled the android driver while it was in fastboot mode. Now I have a custom ROM running Google Play apps! Again, thank you!
Hey, I don't know if this will help others, but I had a hell of a time trying to get my kindle to recognize while in the bootloader/fastboot mode... It frustrated me so much that I had to write about it.
I recently switched to Windows 10, so it seems like my computer is relearning drivers and stuff...
My kindle was fine when on, and I could issue adb commands from the main screen, but when in fastboot mode, I couldn't get it detected. I knew the drivers were an issue, but I couldn't figure out how to do it. I looked at Amazon's support pages, went through the SDK route, tinkered with the adb.ini and so forth... to no avail.
Post after post said that the easiest way to install the drivers was through the Kindle Fire Utility, but for some reason, the drivers in the .bat file kept failing and would not load. It took a good few hours to figure out the solution.
When I asked the Web why the drivers kept failing, I came across a post that said Windows was actually blocking unknown drivers from loading onto my system. I really wish Windows had told me that instead of just saying "Fail"...
I had to hold down the shift button and click restart on the start menu, and when the computer restarted, I when through: troubleshoot -> advanced options -> startup settings and clicked on Restart. It eventually gave me the option to disable that signature verification [F7]
My explanation is crude, because I want you to look it up properly. Just search for "disable driver signature enforcement" and you should be fine.
Hope this helps others out. I may have to revisit my own post just to see how to do this again.
Hello, I have problem with fastboot mode ealier it was working well but in Minimal Adb and flashboot i seen <waiting for device> so I started checking drivers and after this fastboot mode stopped working. I tried to run fastboot by command adb reboot fastboot but it just reboots phone I need help very fast. [I need fastboot mode to flash CWM on my phone then root it and install cyanogen mod 13 (android 6)]
I'm new to all this. My device was bricked. So I flashed boot, droidboot and recovery file of my phone and after this when I boot my phone only fastboot mode comes, even I tried charging my phone and still the fastboot mode is coming. I tried to open recovery mode from the fastboot mode and it would boot into the fastboot mode. Please help!!
Hi all,
I'm a bit stuck. Went to sleep last night with a working phone. Woke up this morning with the device turned off, and trying to turn it on always bumps me into Fastboot. I'm guessing my custom ROM tried and failed to update overnight...?
I can run fastboot commands, but trying to boot using a boot.img from a downloaded ROM (fastboot boot boot.img) still kicks me into Fastboot. Tried installing a Stock ROM, and the full install goes through, but still reboots to Fastboot.
I've downloaded the MSM tool and EDL package to see if I can get that to work, but you guessed it, I can't get into EDF mode (holding both vol buttons and connectting the phone sends me to Fastboot).
Anyone any ideas
Arran
In my case I fixed it by swapping to the other slot...
getvar current-slot to see the active partition
fastboot --set-active=a to set partition a instead.
Rebooted - all OK
