Rooted S4 and Stagefright? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Apparently I'm vulnerable to stagefright, but im rooted on Fennys stock rom. What can I do to patch this issue on my s4?

Use textra. Maybe some other MMS app, but that one I know has it patched

From what I know the only patch can come from the carrier or unless someone has made a fix for it. I'm not rooted and using stock firmware and I have not received an update at all. Most likely older phones won't get an update. What you can do is just turn off auto retrieve mms from the Samsung messaging app and not download mms from unknown numbers.

So basically, if we dont upgrade to a new flagship device, we're screwed?

If you use the "Search All Forums" button at the top of the XDA website for StageFright, you'll see several threads covering this issue.
If you have root, disabling the autoplay setting for StageFright in the build.prop file will be the easiest:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software-hacking/fix-stagefright-patched-t3173500
If you don't have root, make sure you have updated Firefox and use a MMS app that has been fixed.
Or, if you are running Android 4.1 or above, it would be really hard for anyone to use this exploit.
Rob

AT&T, Verizon and Sprint have all pushed the patch and upgrade to 5.0.1 to their S4 models.
T-Mobile has pretty much abandoned the S4.

Yea t-mobile is not taking any responsibility to ensure the safety of its customers, I started a post and got the runaround from tmobile. History shows that Tmobile seems to be the first carrier to prematurely stop support on their devices and force people to upgrade. I did buildprop edits in hopes that a developer will come out with a rom that is patched for my device. I am currently looking into other carriers as their lack of commitment to their customers personal information demonstrates bad business ethics.

Doesn't look like it. Although the linked content also refers to your device being updated to Android 4.0.4 there may be errors.
I am excited as I want multi view but gotta have wifi calling. This should break loose the development options a bit.
I wonder if it will also unlock LTE...
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement
F5ing sammobile.com in hopes of a leak coming through a day early......
So will we need to be running a stock rom?
Good Find! Thanks. So it's a minor update, not a full rom.
I just don't really see why I would even want to update to tmobile s update. I'm running that dll1 stock 4.1.2 rom I found in development section. Added multiwindow control .apk. and im happy!
I just think its too little too late and ill just stick with being able to use unlimited apps on multiwindow than having to go back to stock just for their little crappy update.
I cant imagine it being anything more than a couple bug fixes and added multiview feature.
However if it were to enable lte....than im all for it
But good news OP and thanks for putting this out there.

In theory the injected Stock Root should update to this update. But what is the real result we don't know yet. I have an backup with "ota rootkeeper" just in case if lose root. Also the developer for the injected Stock Root rom said that they are going to inject root into the new update and have it available as soon as they get the update and time to inject.
On the 19th we will see how things go.
This seems to come in record time compared to other T-mobile OTAs...

I don't get what everyone is *****ing about t mobile and waiting for updates. They pushed out 3 in the year and 3 mos I had a Sensation, I got it the week it launched and it didn't take long to receive the first ota. AT&T took forever with updates on the Captivate when it first launched. IMO, T Mobile has been pretty good with updates.

[Q] Exynos exploit patch for AT&T stock rom?

What ever happened to a patch from AT&T for the Exynos exploit? T-Mobile pushed one out to their version of the Note 2 a few weeks ago - anyone have any idea why AT&T has not done the same?
At&t is always months behind on updates.

hehe we don't need no stinkin' update! The Devs here at XDA have this awesome and new philosophy of 'moving forward with technology for the love of it' instead of the AT&T philosophy of 'staying stagnant so we don't need to spend money on getting stuff fixed right away' even though the solution for said issue is RIGHT EFFIN' THERE.
Why do I root? Because of stuff like this.
Isn't the XDA Exynos fix incompatible with the Note 2's camera? Or am I mistaken?

Sammy sent out a fix after xda devs brought it to their attention after the devs patched it. Sure, there were problems in the first patches but eventually, it was fixed. Read the kernel thread change logs and you will see at one point they included the fix either custom or official.

So I read that an official update is coming for the note 2. However I have since left att, unlocked my phone, enabled AWS band and rooted . (How ever I'm running stock room) when this update comes out. Do I do it. ..do I wait for a cracked release. ... If I do it do I lose aws... do I lose my root.

Rooted devices generally do not play well with OTA updates.
You would want to be in stock configuration to take an update, in order for a complete backup to be made, then root again.
Unless of course you want to remain stock.
But either way, updates while rooted and modified "WILL" give you issues.....g
What about the aws bands? Would I lose that?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
Returning to stock yes...
Taking an update while rooted with custom files ??....unknown.
It would largely depend on the type of update, and the files being replaced. We have no way of knowing what Samsung will push to us, if ever....g

stop at&t ota update notice from 4.1.2 to 4.2.2?
Hi everyone,
I hope this is the correct forum. How do I stop getting the OTA update notices from At&t on my SGN2? I rooted it in March and I know that accepting At&t's updates will have negative affects. The notice pops up everyday all day and it's annoying. Does anyone know if there is a 4.2.2 update available on this site for my rooted SGN2 and if this will stop the notice from At&t? If so, will you post a link? I already have TWR installed.
Thank you,
tsairox
Titanium Backup (paid version) will give you option to "freeze" AT&T download.
This will stop notice.

I would also be very careful in updating. Galaxy s4 has a locked bootloader. I would not be surprised if 4.2.2 update for note 2 also locked the boot loader. I would rather apply a rooted and confirmed 4.2.2 update from here one xda once a developer confirms it's safe or has their own version.

I'm sure that won't be an issue. If I recall correctly, the devs on the s4 managed to fix that fairly quickly. Also, we have awesome devs here

I have an s4 also and the boot loader is not unlocked it is just a bootstrap fix like Motorola phones had. Samsung can easily patch the exploit in newer firmware releases both for galaxy s4 and note 2 if they choose to lock the bootloader always safer not to apply official ota updates. Any boot loader signed with a 2048 key is unbreakable currently unless somebody working for Samsung leaks an unlocked boot loader out.

4.1.2 update

Does it not piss anyone else off that the Samsung galaxy s3 for AT&T still hasn't gotten 4.1.2 or even any news on it. The galaxy s2 even got the update for AT&T, so how is it not yet out for the s3.

Because they probably only have one software team, and only work on one Samsung device (or just one device - period) at a time.
How to get the Samsung 4.1.2 update:

(Q) Has anyone gotten the AT&T 4.3 update?

While browsing Samsungs website I happened to click on our Note 2 model i317 and under OS it says 4.3, my question is has been released already? Ive been testing the international 4.3 builds, I would love to test an official rooted deoxed version. I found the info here... http://m.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SGH-I317ZWAATT#specs

I haven't heard anything, This probably means that because Samsung gave At&t the update that it's just waiting for them to push it to us. Should be really soon, sprint already has theirs and I read that T-Mobilw just got theirs out

Sprint's update is out, T-Mobile's is out, US Cellular's is out, Verizon's dropped today and we wait. Funny that AT&T was supposed to one of the earliest updates on the leaked list but we still wait. I just want it to get into the hands of the TW ROM teams, Ditto Note, Sky Note and Jedi so I can see what they do with it.
Yeah, my contract is up in January and I don't think I'm going to stick with AT&T. It seems like they really don't update their phones if they don't absolutely have to. =/

I don't think that the update will be far behind the other carriers. At&t always waits till the last possible moment for anything. My guess is that it wont be an OTA but thru Kies which will suck cause my CPU just crashed on me the other day
