I am trying to identify either a windshield or vent car mount that will be compatible with the Otterbox Defender case for the D710. Will the Otterbox Defender case work with Samsung's OEM Mount? If not, are there any other mounts available that will work? I'm not sold on the Tetrax mount, though it appears that it would work, and am looking for an alternative.
I found a Cygnett windshield mount at Frys for like $17. It grips the phone really well and ive never had it pop off the windshield yet. Cant post links but its pretty easy to find on their site
I've been using one of the universal adjustable mounts that should fit the 'box without a problem but I'm starting to re-think the windshield mount... I have it mounted close the drivers side A-pillar... and in my car there's an airbag in there. I'm concerned that if that airbag goes off I'm going to have a phone impaled in my face.

I never thought of that possibility, probably because my blazer doesn't have one. I can't recall ever seeing a legal disclaimer any of the mounts I've used (probably because they would be in the instructions where no man would ever find them). Or nobody has sued for that yet.
I usually put mine in the center of the windshield but for road trips I like it on the side window. Charging cable is a pain if just running errands. [IDEA]usb port in door panel[/IDEA]

you're right, ur phone will kill you if you have it that way. the one I use says specifically in the directions not to keep in an air bag deploy area. also using a universal one that works well, just sits on the dash and didn't need adhesives. can't charge though without some ugly cords dangling near the radio and controls.

I have to find some video to see how that particular airbag deploys... but it is concerning to me. Ideally I'd like to get the phone off of the windshield anyway because it gets a lot of sun load up there. Not an issue in the moderate months but in the summer it can get very toasty on the dash even when the car is in use. i remember my old EVO hitting its thermal limit a couple of times up there if I didn't have the AC on and the vent duct pointing at it.
That CD holder had me interested but it would block access to the radio station buttons in my daily driver.

In the past I've used the tray behind the shift stick on the center console. A cup holder on the dashboard would be perfect! Only I don't have one on either of my cars...
I went with this from Amazon: iOttie One-Touch Windshield Dashboard Car Mount Holder for iPhone 4S 4 3GS Samsung Galaxy S2 Epic Touch 4G HTC EVO 4G Rhyme DROID RAZR BIONIC INCREDIBLE 2 CHARGE Google Nexus BlackBerry Torch LG Revolution GPS Compact Size 360 degree Rotatable.
I'll report back on how well it works once I get a chance to use it.
Hello guys,
This is a review for the iOttie Easy Flex mount 2, for our Galaxy s3. I was looking around over the web to find a reliable car mount and finally i have found it.*
The package is pretty simple and clean. You get the actual mounter and a manual *which explaines how to correctly mount the product. As for the built quality, is pretty good and solid as well. It doesnt feel cheap at all.
Functionallity: I really love it. You can "flex it" and mount it in every position you want. Personally, i chose to put in landscape mode but as i said, you can flex it in any position possible.*
The suction cup, really sucks. From the moment you mount it securely, it stays there without any concern. Especially, its that secured mounted, that it doesnt shake when you are driving. (if you know what i mean). I have tried other chinese car mounts in the past, but they didnt satisfied me they way that IOttie Easy Flex 2 does.*
Lastly, mounting and unmounting the Galaxy s3 is very easy as well. Its the best feature about this product.
Pros:
1. best car mount for our phone
2. well built
3. no shake while driving
4. Fairly cheap for what you get
Cons:*
Nothing at all
Rating: 5/5 Solid.
Conclution: I highly recommend this product. Its one of the best accessories for our premium Galaxy s3. Do yourself a favor and grab one asap. LOVE it.

I've been searching high and low for a non-generic car mount/dock and I think I might have found something that will work. I just ordered the Motorola Atrix HD dock from amazon.
(link blocked)
Dimensions seem right..
Atrix; 5.26 x 2.75 x .33
Sprint Optimus G 5.19 x 2.71 x .33
I'll report back in two days when it gets here.
Hopes this helps....has anyone else found anything else that will work?
I have the 2011 model of the Sprint Universal Mount. With the Otterbox, this thing BARELY fits. But it still works very nicely
2012 model link is here
Yeah....saw that, and looked at a number of the "universal" mounts, but really wanted something that I could truly "dock" my phone into. I'm in and out of my car a lot during the day and don't want to hassle with plugging in the power cord each and every time. Thanks for the input.
NEGATIVE on the MOTOROLA ATRIX HD case....usb doesn't line up. darn.
Tetrax
Is anybody using any of the Tetrax mounts with the LGOG? (The system is preventing me from posting the hyperlink to the Tetrax site here, but it is tetrax.com.) I love their simplicity but am not sure I want to paste a disk to the back of my phone. If you have done this, can you comment on how you like it? Thanks.
Here is a good looking car mount for the LGOG.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/LG-OPTIMUS-...305639?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item1c2e0729a7
If you don't need to have the phone charger automatically plugged in, I highly recommend this mount. You've never known convenience until you've put the phone in and take it off with only one hand :fingers-crossed:. Not to mention the it will stick to your car's dash (hard plastic parts preferred, as it will leave an indentation on soft plastic)

ryocho, have you used this with the Sprint LGOG? I'm thinking about getting it, but want to make sure it fits and doesn't hit any of the volume/power buttons. They also have this one that is for the Galaxy Note. I wonder if it would fit better there?

Yes I am using it right now, with this case, it fits fine with just a little bit of wiggle room to spare. For sure the Galaxy Note one will fit if you plan on getting a thick case like otterbox, but it might be too wide if you decided to go without a case?

That's what I had previously with my old phone. Unfortunately it doesn't work with the OG with case on. Plus the arm is too long which cause a lot of vibration when driving.
Clingo
I have the clingo and it works great with the otter commuter case
Had the Clingo too, bought it when it first came out. It worked well at the beginning, but after a few months in the summer heat (Southern California) the gel starts to degrade and start to leave a sticky residue on the back of my phone case. Got a replacement gel pad from Clingo, same thing happen by the next summer.
Yes, I've tried a lot of car mount options. Still looking for the perfect one (that doesn't cost something ridiculous like $80)
Here is the best I've found...
Brackretron
Takes some mounting and such, but definitely the best finished product...
ProClip Universal
I'm thinking of ordering one from ProClipUSA. [sorry, I'm too nube to be allowed to post a link...] In the past I've used their mounts for my old Garmin Nuvi and later for my HTC EVO 4G (the WiMax model).
Unlike those mounts, which were excellent and solid as hell, the two available are not full custom for the Optimus. And I really loved that my EVO's mount also provided power when it was docked. I rarely bothered explicitly wall charging the EVO as it always got topped off during the office commutes.
Still... with a few tweaks for the Optimus' dimensions it might be enough for a secure mount. For long trips it looks like I should be able to power it with the car 12V charger from the bottom opening.
This is what I have and it is the best mount I have ever used. Iotte easy flex 2

Hey everyone,
I have tried many car phone mounts, but none of them worked as I was wishing.
Then I googled this keyword "minimal car mount" and suddenly found this interesting idea based on magnetic power.
What do you think?

If they want to be taken seriously, they should really get someone to proof the front page of their website - smarthpone?
I was also looking for a minimalistic mount for my phone. I hate those suction cup and dashboard mounts so I got the tetrax xway and I love it. It mounts nicely on my dash near and blends into my stereo. Having the little metal nipple on my phone is a bit annoying but the convenience of quickly and securely attaching my phone to my car is worth it.

Picked up a Tetrax XWAY magnetic mount for my GS3. Works surprisingly well and is probably the most unobtrusive option around ie. No suction cup, cradle etc.
Maybe old school thinking but, aren't magnets harmful to most electronics?

They are using different kind of technology that doesn't create strong magnetic field. Each holder has 4 tiny magnets.

I've been using these magnet mounts in my car for a couple years. They have worked great on:
HTC Wildfire
Optimus 2X
Galaxy S3
Navigon SATNAV (much heavier than a smartphone)
Walkman MP3 Player
Anything with metal in it like a pen!
Nothing has ever fallen off even over potholes and rough country tracks. All wifi 3g bluetooth are unaffected but cant verify NFC as I dont use it.
The only glitch I spotted was that the orientation sensor on the wildfire didnt respond (if I turned the phone from portrait to landscape whilst attached it wouldnt rotate the screen), but the other phones didnt have that problem.
I love it. Even though my magnet is larger (about the size of a 50p), its discreet and effective. I would recommend to anyone.
I have always used the stick on ones not the clip on, but as long as they clip ok to your vent and you dont blast hot air directly to the phone it should be ok.
I use their X-Way model as part of my near perfect car mount solution.
So obviously, it all starts with the Tetrax X-Way. I mounted that directly to one of the vents in the middle of my car. It does block the vest quite a bit, but it's the perfect spot for me and doesn't involve any adhesive on my dash. At first, I tried attaching one of the little nipple things to the back of my phone directly. While this worked, it drove me nuts that I couldn't lay my phone flat on a table anymore. This became a problem when I accidentally bumped my S3 while it was sitting on a table and since there was less friction now, the thing went flying. So not good.
My solution was to pick up a dirt cheep slim case. That's how I ended up with the elago G5 Slim Fit Case. With the nipple attached to that, I could just slip my phone in/out of that and leave the case sitting in my arm rest compartment when not in use. Now I had the awesome form factor of my S3 and the ability to mount. So the next issue was the connection.
Like almost everyone else, I was using the cigarette lighter along with a curly charging cord that was 5x longer than it needed to be. Worse, the giant power wart that was now sticking out of my dash. Not only was this ugly, it was a pain in the but to store. What I really wanted to use was a small USB cable, 6-8 inches long, that could fit with my new case in my arm rest and a way to ditch the giant dash wart. The cable is easy enough to find, but how do I plug it in? With the Griffin Powerjolt Dual! While there are a bunch of USB port adaptors floating aorund, this was the first I found that would actually sit flush against the dash. This means I wouldn't have any stupid wart thing to deal with, the look of my dash wouldn't be thrown off, and since I don't smoke, I could just leave it in full time.
The big win in all of this is two fold. First, I could ditch the bulky plastic car mount garbage for a few thin and easy to store version. Second, I did the same thing (but with a different case) for my wife's Galaxy Nexus. Now we can both use the same mount depending on who's driving (or if we pick up a second X-Way, we can both charge and mount at the same time thanks to the dual ports on the Powerjolt) and save even more room in the car since we didn't need two giant device specific car mounts. The other minor bonus here is that the X-Way came with enough of those attachment nipples that I should be able to roll along for a few years using the same mounting system across multiple new devices.

My friend has this solution for his BB and loves it. I wasn't willing to pay the price the local Best Buy wanted. I found a different magnet system at my local Bell store.
Something similar to this. I stuck the large magnet to my dash and the other magnet is on my case. I've had zero issues with NFC. Bash cash mount kit imo.
Hoping to receive mine soon! Anyone else using it and has more thoughts to share?

So I got the vent mount version and it works great in my car. In my truck the clip does not fit the vent. I placed the circle towards the top of the phone like it says and it hangs in portrait. In the video it shows it going between portrait and landscape, it doesn't do that. You get one orientation unless you put the connector in the middle I would guess. Other than that it is perfect.

I checked the threads, but didn't see one for this. Does anyone have a recommendation for a Magnetic car mount that will hold the weight of the OnePlus 7 Pro? Specifically for air vent mount.
I had been using one for my 5t, but recently upgraded to the 7 pro. I tried using the mount on this phone and the magnet is not able to hold the weight, the phone falls of while driving after a slight bump.
I'm eyeing this one, but looking for recommendations

scosche works fine for my OP7P and my phone weighs 278g with its case/metal plate. i've had it for the past 10k miles i've been driving and never once had my phone fall off.
Thanks I noticed that, will check it out.
Scosche is the way to go, have one in my car and one in boat. Used them with OP5T and was worried that could they handle added weight of OP7 Pro. No problems there, the one in the boat handles it fine, there is lot more movement and jumps when driving with boat.
I am loving this magnetic mount and case combination with my OP7P
