Yeah, when it comes down to prices and stuff, it would be a much better investment to buy a new phone

I was looking at screen replacement prices on eBay for this phone and it only cost around $25-$30 which isn't bad at all. Depends on what he wants to do. Personally I'd replace the screen then sell it.

Wow, last time I checked which was so long ago it was expensive. Well yeah same recommendation goes, just get it fixed and sell it, nothing guarantees you that your new screen will be flawless or that it has the same lifespan as a new phone, so yeah... get a new phone
You'd better to buy the whole screen with digitizer and lcd. Check www.hcqs.com.cn and ask them for a low price.

for our specific phone the screen and the digitizer are fused into one which makes it much more difficult/risky to try to change separately. plus u wont find only the screen without the digitizer. I recently replaced my screen too so i can say i have experience.
refer to this if u havent:
http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung-Epic-4G-Touch-Teardown/6481/1
look on ebay for cheaper offers, otherwise they end up costing about $150+. i got mine for $65 shipped and it was in pristine condition
use this as a start (make sure its our phone of course):
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw...gitizer&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313
dont forget to be gentle! i screwed up my original screen bc i was too rough and glass shards got btwn the screen and the digitizer, but i was also trying to separate the screen from the digitizer, which was stupid
good luck!
I have a complete housing I could sell you. Its the black one, like new condition. I am currently using the white housing on my phone, and have two black ones.

Like 200$ for the lcd + glass. Or like 15$ for just the glass, its hard to replace but manageable.

Depends on where you live. Some towns have little phone repair centers.

I work at a cell phone repair store. We charge like 275 for the repair and a good quality part will run like 225. I have fixed like 30 gs3s so far and I am going to warn you now..... Do not attempt to just replace the glass. I you will just be wasting your time. To the guy that said it is manageable, until you try it yourself, please don't give advice like that out. It very much is not manageable to do. But if you have any experience repairing phones, just order the screen plus lcd yourself and do it. It is very easy on the gs3

Depending where your at I would google search repair centers and call around for the best price. If that doesn't work perhaps Craigslist? I met a really cool tech guy off there and he works on mainly iphones but knows a lot about android devices as well.

If my glass was broken I'd try to fix it.. If I screw up I'd have to replace the entire thing anyway so might as well try to fix it for 15 first.
Or am I missing something?

I dropped it seated on my car in soft ground and it hit with the bottom right corner and welcome cracked screen, it divided like in 7 parts, one like 80% of the creen and the other 6 about the same size

It isn't about the quality, the screen is curved in the edges so it becomes extremely weak there, one unlucky corner drop that avoids the plastic bezel and hits the screen and welcome cracks.
Now i dropped mine many times and found that the phone drops on it's back most of the time and survives, but i almost broke it when it dropped on the side, luckily it hit the bezel and there was no damage, not even a scratch/bend.
So yep.. luck.

+ 1 on that.
if you have a proper case it'll decrease the chance...but yea with an unprotected phone it comes down to luck really. takes that one spot to crack your screen.

I my s3 works perfectly even with the broken screen, I don't notice it when it's turn on ,but i think will be hard to sell it broken here in mexico because i havent seen the glass only for sale. Here people sell the glass and lcd together and its almost 300dls, so what do you think guys?

You can replace only the glass of you are confident and willing to take the responsibility for potential screen damage.
I cracked my screen, that's the route I'll be taking, it's the cheapest. There's a really good thread in the general section for hire to do it. Also YouTube videos.
Mind you, this is just replacing the glass atop the screen.
Good luck!

Hello there
A few days ago I was using the public transport when my Note II fell on the ground. When my girlfriend asked if it was broken, I replied that the Note II was unbreakable. When I picked it up my screen was broken (karma hits player 1 for one million thousand trillion points). I mailed to the store I bought it from and they told me it would cost 250 euro's.
I'm wondering whether this is a normal price for a screen replacement.
Thank you for the replies!
Stores always want to rip you off! I have seen issues about screen on the galaxy s3 which obviously is different but almost the same. The glass can be bought for under $10 online and there are plenty of YouTube videos with instructions on how to do change it yourself. So to answer your question yes I think $250 is wayyyyy too much

If it were me, I'd attempt to fix it myself, after reading up extensively and making sure I had the right tools.
Only you can contemplate whether it's worth it for you, watch some YouTube and make a decision

The alternative is getting it fixed in a local 'foreign' shop here in my city. Not entirely reliable, but I have little to lose.

Did you ask if they were going to change just the front glass or the whole display such as glass+ digitizer+amoled? Because if it's just the glass then it would be a major rip off! It's not that simple to just change the glass since it glued with an adhesive and you'll need to be very careful when removing it.

I'd do some research before running to pay. These companies tell us w/e they want in hopes of making more money off customers
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
First of all. If the screen is scratched or broken but still works it means than the screen is not damaged. Only upper glass over screen is broken and you can buy one from ebay for 20$ and replace yourself by video tutorial on youtube. Anyway if you fail to repar it yourself you can anytime go and replace whole screen for 250 eur. But I think its worth to try to repair upper glass only if screen is still responding after damage.

My brother has just informed me my dog has somehow broke my screen. I currently can't take pictures, but will later upload some either tonight or tomorrow.
His description is "the bottom corner is cracked and there's a crack through the screen (probably doesn't mean a hole through the screen, just a crack going horizontally or vertically)"
Is this worth fixing and repairing? Or is a new tablet the best solution? Just general answers since I don't know the full extent of the damage yet.
Thanks.

Well, it's 88 bucks to buy the part from etradesupply (if digitizer and glass, if just glass, then it's less but then you must use a heat gun and hope you can do it yourself), if you can do it yourself, it may be worth it, else, buy a new one, and either sell the old one for parts or keep it for extra parts. You get a new one, if shopping locally, you can try and see the serial and date of mfg and maybe get a good batch, and you get a new warranty to boot.
I'll check out the damage tonight and determine if I can fix it. I've never opened up a mobile device, but I know enough about computers I may be able to fix it. My brother has also fixed iPods for people.
Know of any sites that might buy nexus 7 parts? Maybe just eBay or something?

Yeah, ebay seems to be the ticket.
Photos if the damage. Maybe fixable. Touch doesn't work so probably needs digitizer.

A cracked LCD display and digitizer is very doable. You just need to know how and be able to work on small electronics. It will take some finesse. Only you know if you can physically do it. If you do take on the project you will want to mind the glass shards. You'll play hell getting them out of your fingers.
Edit: I always recommend getting the digitizer flex ribbon as well because the can fracture.
I've only dealt with PC components, but it should be easy enough. Find some step BG step instructions, watch videos, learn about the hardware of the Nexus 7.
What's the best deal on a replacement kit?

I've decided instead of fixing it myself I'll sell the one I have and buy a refurbished one. I don't have the time to fix it and I'd much rather not risk $130 and it not work in the end.
What would a reasonable asking price be for say eBay?

The screen and digitizer is the most expensive and thus most sought after part when buying a parts tablet/phone. If you find someone who would have a use for harvested chips you might get a bit more for it. Just my opinion but if you get, IDK, 40 you're doing good.
Edit: I think 20-25 might be a reasonable eBay price though.

I can't see the pictures, BTW if the cost to fix is more than 60-70% of new one, you should just sell it "as it" or for part on eBay, and buy a new one.

I have no purpose to keep it for parts. Sure it might be fun to take apart, but what else could I use from it? Camera maybe?
I'm probably going to sell it on eBay, Craigslist, or wherever to get some money and buy a new one.
I thought about refurbished until I won a $25 eBay gift card, so why not get a brand new one?
