Hi,
Over the past days I have been wanting to update my phone to lollipop because I have kitkat currently and in the process of trying to get an ota update I realised that my phone had a SuperCid which blocked ota updates so I decided to use an ruu to update it instead, I ran the ruu and it told me that my MID did not match the firmware I tried to flash. So I went on to the terminal app on android and typed in "getprop ro.mid" and it said my MID is 0P6B52000 and when I tried to look up a RUU for that MID I couldn't find any. I thought that as long you are s-off and had super cid you could flash any Rom regardless the MID or Carrier ID. So at the moment I'm stuck, I really don't know how I can update my phone because I don't know what RUU to flash for my MID number. The phone was originally my brothers but I don't know where he got it.
So to break it down,
How can I get my phone to lollipop?
What RUU can I use for my MID?
I have a locked boot loader and s-off.

I did a quick search, but I couldn't figure out which carrier that MID belongs to. However, the fact that your RUU grumbled on MID is important, because if it is a CDMA phone (Verizon or Sprint in the US), then you need to be very careful about what you load on it. Loading GSM firmware on a CDMA device will at best break it, and possibly brick it.
Also, SuperCID doesn't really do much anymore, and it blocks OTA updates. I'd suggest you change the CID/MID to match the carrier/RUU or nandroid you need, then leave it alone. It's possible you could update without doing anything other than merely changing it's CID back and taking the OTA.
Unfortunately, you don't really have enough info in your post to properly answer your question.

I believe I have a Sprint HTC one m8 but I don't have the MID or the original CID which I can change too. Is it possible for me to change to like an eu CID and any other CID or does it just have to be a Sprint one.

post a "fastboot getvar all" (excluding IMEI, MEID, and s/n), that will show you & us the proper information; and don't try to flash EU (GSM) stuff on a Sprint or Verizon phone, you wont like the outcome

I'm confused, you said in the top post the MID is 0P6B52000?
Not sure, that MID is not familar to me, either. But it seems to be some variation of the China MID, based on the following: http://droider.eu/2014/09/20/htc-one-m8-models/
But you really do need to get and post the getvar output, as requested in the previous response. The product name will also give us a clue what version you have (M8_ul, M8_whl, etc.), among other useful pieces of getvar data.
Be sure to delete your IMEI and serial number when posting getvar output, as these are personal data.

I'm going to check the Sprint 1.54.651.8 RUU (going to take some time though), but honestly this looks like aliexpress phone with a weird radio
Some similar threads:

Think you should be very careful what you try to flash, and I would highly recommend you analyze and pull the existing partitions to your PC because it seems that radio/phone is "different"
Just FYI, a real Sprint phone would be:
modelid: 0P6B70000
cidnum: SPCS_001

I just asked my brother where he got the phone and he said on his trip to China so that can explain the aliexpress things. I already have the originial cid and MID for the phone. I don't really know what you mean by the radio on the phone. Do you have any RUU's I could flash or how can I analyse the ruu?

RUUs need to be decrypted, so i'm downloading the one with the supposedly same version as you are on to compare.... it'll take time though, cause my internet speed is slow.
But from a brief look at the other thread(s) (I didnt read all of it or whether it got solved), anybody that flashed the "real" Sprint firmware/RUU ended up with:
after i flash radio, phone is rebooting often. sim card not working

@jesster2k10
I just looked at the official Sprint RUU:
Code:
modelid: 0P6B70000
cidnum: SPCS_001
mainver: 1.54.651.8
the hboot version is the same as yours: ab0efa49
BUT the radio in there is: 1.05.20.0321_2
whereas yours is 1.00.20.0120
adding that this seems to be some Chinese variant, and seeing other threads with "SIM card no longer working", I would find it very risky flashing this phone, because it seems the radio/modem are peculiar to that device and not compatible with the regular Sprint one.... as witnessed in the other threads. (which by the way, are all still looking for the radio, possibly even modem and other partitions).
So I guess two choices:
1- leave the phone as is
2- do a complete analysis of the partition layout and pull every partition off the phone, and compare them to regular Sprint see what matches and what doesn't
then you could try flashing, but will probably need to avoid the radio
Obviously option 2, is quite a bit of a process, so don't know if it's worth the hassle, nor how successful it will be
.
My phones acting up and I really want to update it tis such a shame ?

HI,
I just bought an unlock htc m8 no branding any where. I unlocked the bootloader and flash a custom recovery but when I tried to root the phone something went wrong because I'm stuck on the boot screen and it would not go past it. I have been looking every where how to fix it, I don't have a nandroid back up and don't know which one to look for. Is there a way to restore it back to normal? I also tried flashing a custom rom but it gets stuck in the same place.
please help.

Have you flashed a custom recovery on the device? If yes, just try to restore a nandroid back from @Mr Hofs thread and your phone will be fine
Problem is, I don't think there is any nandroid backups available for his device LRA__001. First time I've seen that CID mentioned. Going by MID doesn't help much either, I think the Verizon has the same MID. Going by the "product: m8_wlv" it also indicates Verizon. I do see that he's on AT&T on his profile though but...
Being stuck on bootloader screen for 10minutes or more won't be surprising at all if he flashed a 2.xx.xxx.x firmware based custom ROM instead of a 1.xx.xxx.x version. Need to upgrade firmware in order to do that.
You don't happen to recall what version software your device ran?
Hi, I had the 2.7 TWRP recovery but found the 2.8.0.6 works better. I was able to flash PA ROM and it is working now. Plus now is rooted and S-off and super CID.
The phone has no branding and bought from amazon as unlock from factory. But is funny you mention Verizon has similar IDs because when I plug the phone to HTC sync the first splash screen shows Verizon wireless assistant and then go to the normal HTC one.
I tried the latest HD ROM and it was force closing a lot so I think the firmware is 1.... Something. I want to upgrade but don't know which one to get. Maybe I should look on the Verizon forum, thanks for letting me know that.
I spoke with developer support at HTC and they told me they will help restore to stock and escalated the call. I will let you know if they do help.
Thanks for the replies.

Honestly if its that much of a hassle, you should stick with something safe, Change the MID and CID to a Dev Edition/Europe, to do a full convert and you wont have to worry about the LRA_001. If you do those 2 steps the the OTA will be automatic as follows.
Else just flash a custom recovery, wipe data/cache and so and restore with one of the TWRP backups posted around here and you'll be good to go :good:
Cool I will try that. I did not know that.

Don't forget though, best steps as follow, change MID, CID, restore via TWRP backup. If youre in Europe then change the MID to EUR, but the CID change it to super CID. Youve gotten past the hardest part which is the SOFF so everything is a breeze from there on out.
You won't lose your internal data if you do any of the following steps but dumping them on your SD card would be safe too.
I had an SG manufactured one, and the OTA came out pretty weird, was an unbranded one too. changed it to Dev/Unlocked MID and the super CID, downloaded the B_US002 TWRP dump thats posted here and restored that. Might want to download the OTA too aswell would save massive time after the first 159MB ota.
Awesome. Thanks!
was any one here ever able to get things working?
i am on LRA__001 and got my radio to stop working, no phone signals
contacted HTC dev and they provided me a zip, flashing that didn't help much, still no signals and can't boot into stock recovery.
seems like i've flashed the wrong hboot or something that's causing everything to be flashed on wrong partition addresses.
any help ?

This isn't the same issue as the OP. You flashed the wrong firmware which is much more serious. This thread isn't relevant to your issue, in addition to being over a year old (which also most likely won't help your issue).

The LRA version is the LRA version. there's no question there. Its based on Verizon, but its not Verizon.
Sounds like you are trying to make up solutions. What you need is LRA firmware or RUU (RUU may not exist).

i've got complete RUU from HTCDev to flash via hboot, did flash that but lost the IMEI and baseband version under settings > about, however the getvar all is still showing that information. so just trying to figure out what went wrong. either something is missing in what they have provided. or the hboot version is mismatching.
read bout the boot process and got to know that hboot reads IMEI and baseband while booting up and holds into some shared memory variables which later read by kernel.
just trying to figure out things and also looking for somebody who can provide dumps so i can try flashing them.

No I explained them my case and they asked to couple of days time and then they provided a zip file to flash via hboot. They claimed that they have prepared this file especially for me. I flashed that file. It was 5.0.1 with almost all the images.
One thing that I doubt is that the hboot is not updated since the android-info.txt says hbootpreupdate=12 and my getvar says 11 so just wondering whether it was updated or not.
Also I dumped mmcblk0p3 (board-info) and I can see my IMEI there too.

they send me the wrong files a couple of times. But they did get me the right one at the end. it seems you have the same problem I did. I still the hboot file and the system image. The hboot zip should be installed on download mode and the system image should be rename to OP6BIMG.zip and put in the sd card and re-start the phone in bootloader and let the zip install itself. It takes a long time but it worked. I have the files in my google drive I don't mind sharing it.

I have Htc one m8 unlocked bootloader 3.19, was rooted but doesn't seem to be anymore. firmware is 4.16.401.10, supercid (was roger001). I'm not sure what I am doing wrong, I tried to flash a RUU after flashing the firmware first and i get an error 32-header error. Phone just reboots onto white HTC screen then gives me the red exclamation mark. Booting into recovery gives red exclamation mark. Not sure what else I can try, any suggestioins would be greatly appreciated. (note: tried to flash the RUU here I could be way off but I am stuck.)
Anyone have any assistance? I tried changed the mid so I could flash a RUU but still got the 32-header error. There has to be a simpler way to do this, I just want to get back to stock.
Are you s-on or s-off? Do adb getvar all and post the output (delete your IMEI and serial number, as these are personal data).
With the Rogers variant, you can't flash the Euro RUU unless you change the MID (s-off required).
Also, you need to relock the bootloader to run the RUU if you are s-on. But that doesn't matter as the RUU will fail MID check, anyway.
What exactly are you trying to accomplish by running the RUU?

Are you s-on or s-off? Do adb getvar all and post the output (delete your IMEI and serial number, as these are personal data).
With the Rogers variant, you can't flash the Euro RUU unless you change the MID (s-off required).
Also, you need to relock the bootloader to run the RUU if you are s-on. But that doesn't matter as the RUU will fail MID check, anyway.
What exactly are you trying to accomplish by running the RUU?

Yes, that is incorrect. CID and MID need to match what the RUU is looking for. SuperCID will pass the CID check. But the MID check will still fail if you try to run the Euro RUU (MID = 06PB10000) on a Rogers version M8 (MID = 06PB16000).
Also, are you actually using the phone on Rogers' network? If so, I do not think that returning to stock Euro WWE version by RUU is what you want. From this webpage, it looks like Rogers uses Bands 4,7, and 17 for LTE. The Euro RUU will install a full stock image, including radio firmware, and according to these specs, the Euro version (EMEA) is missing 2 of the 3 bands (Bands 4 and 17) needed for LTE to work on Rogers network.

That would just be the actual stock recovery program that installs of OTA updates, etc.
Its not the actual stock OS or firmware, if that is what you are thinking.
The red exclamation indicates you are already on a stock recovery. Flashing this won't help you at all.
Yeah haha I figured that out right after posting. Thanks though. I re-flashed TWRP now and gonna try restoring from a nandrod backup i found then flash the matching firmware. see how that goes. The similiar names is what throws me off sometimes, so many different recoverys n sh*t lol
I was tryign to use a sixaxis controller to play games but kept getting and error about 'position executable variables' when loading the sixaxis app so i downloaded something called 'bypass pie' and flashed it. Hello guys,
Months ago i bought an HTC One M8 on Aliexpress, it worked fine for a few days but suddently refused to detect my sd-card, so i managed to install a new rom (Android_Revolution_HD-One_M8_50.2_76b56b). Everything worked fine until a few days, when my phone was seemingly unrooted. So i decided to update to a newer version.
Then here we are, i downloaded dozens of roms but was unable to boot any rom i installed, im by far not an expert but i managed to use abd and fastboot to install twrp 3. I finally managed to install Cyanogen (cm-13.0-20151228-NIGHTLY-m8) but it didnt detecter either my SIM, IMEI and crashed all the time.
Now i'm running a nandroid backup with a Marshmallow Sense 7 rom i downloaded here: androidsage.com/2016/03/08/update-verizon-htc-one-m8-to-marshmallow-using-custom-files-ruu-ota using their firmware (m8MfirmwareTWRP3_0_0_1)
But it does not detect my sim card neither my IMEI

MID 0P6B20000 and product ID m8_wlv are for the Verizon version (supports CDMA, in addition to GSM, but we call it the "CDMA version" here).
You flashed a Euro firmware 1.54.401.5 and bricked the radio. This is a known result of trying to flash non-CDMA firmware to the Verizon or Sprint M8 variants, which should never have been done.
The damage may be permanent. The most you can do is change back to the Verizon MID, and flash Verizon RUU, and pray it fixes the radio issue. http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-one-m8/general/vzw-m8-master-ruu-firmware-collection-t2946473
If not, the radio is permanently bricked.
Thanks for the awnser
I can still flash the radio, does that mean its not bricked ? (im not familiar with android internal filesystem)
In case the phone is bricked, is changing the main motherboard a good idea (50€ on ebay), i also eard of jtag unbrick services

So as you recommended, i installed a verizon rom, and this time it actually show my IMEI in settings :good:, and i launched adb shell to change my MID
Now it seems to "detect" my sim card, it ask for it but says "no service" and does not ask for the pin, does that mean the phone is carrier locked (some boxes are greyed out when i try to add APNs) ? In case it is, how can i safely unlock it, i'm from France and my carrier is Orange

You'll have to buy an Unlock code.
Also, the IMEI on your phone has been changed.
Verizon and Sprint IMEIs start with 99x, yours is starting with 35x to try and make it look like an international model.
Notice the meid still starts with 99, as the seller probably didn't bother or forgot to change it.

Try not to use the term "ROM" interchangeably with "RUU", as doing so may add unnecessary confusion to the discussion. They are different things. The RUU re-images all partitions, something like 41 partitions. Of which, the ROM is just one.

The Verizon version is unlocked from the factory. So I'm suspicious whether a SIM unlock will actually work, or if its a function of the radio brick (improper firmware flash). I suppose trying to unlock is low risk, as long as you use a service that does not charge money if it doesn't work (as many of them have that policy).
I'm also not sure if a SIM unlock will work, if the IMEI has been hacked (as the previous user pointed out).

Either may be an option. But changing the motherboard yourself is not that easy, and I don't personally recommend it unless you are very experienced and comfortable doing such things. I've seen more than a few reports of such repairs go badly on this device. Its fairly common to break something else while trying to "fix" the mobo.
A paid mobo or JTAG may be a better option.
Thanks a lot, using the RUU update you provided (0P6BIMG) i was able to fix it, you saved my phone i'm so glad =)
Hello I bought M8 from somebody, it is unbranded European model i think, phone is rooted and carrier unlocked as im using it in asia. it comes with android 5.0.1, I want to update to stock marshmallow for this variant. I have been trying to do on my own but it only confused me more. Im not sure if i have custom rom or if because im rooted, because At the time moment it doesnt offer any software updates from the main menu.
Some info abt phone.
Its model id at back is Op6B100,
Android version 5.0.1
Software number 4.18.708.12
Build number 4.18.708.12
In the bootloader menu I have
Software status: Official
Locked ( i think it means bootloader)
M8_UL PVt SHIp s-off
Cid-11111111 (but if I check with cidgetter it says t-mob010). So it confused me because according to its model its supposed to be european model but in fastboot it says 11111111.
HBoot 3.19.0.0000
I dont have twrp installed.
So please tell me where to go from here. I want to either from here go direct to stock android 6 for this M8 variant or go back to stock condition and get ota update. I prefer to lose the root. So please tell me which stock firmware I need, and do I need to change cid, remove root, before that? Also i would like not to brick my device in process.. Thanks.
Also my device is carrier unlocked at the moment so Im hoping this shouldn't affect that. Thanks

ok thanks , I keep getting this error in the adb fastboot when flashing ruu zip . target reported max download size ( shows some big number bytes) .
Read the guide again .. you need htc_fastboot not normal fastboot.
At the end of the guide it shows 2 other methods on how to install RUU zip. Pick one thar you think it is easier for you.

OTA does not show any updates available (I am in the USA), and none of the RUU or ROM.zip files I can find for AT&T, unlocked, sense, Google, etc will run without failing.
Can anyone please walk help me find the necessary files, fix any settings already in the phone and walk me through updating/changing the phone to US AT&T or, preferably, Sense Marshmallow.
Thanks.

I think your main problem is that your firmware number (3.28.401.9) doesn't jive with your model ID (0P6B63000), therefore preventing any OTA updates, or RUUs from being run.

According to HTC's warranty site, the serial belongs to an AT&T phone from the UK/Europe.
My carrier is US AT&T through NET10, so I need the AT&T APN info, but would prefer either plain vanilla android or HTC's SENSE version, and can edit that info once the phone is running Marshmallow.
Following another thread here, I tried using adb shell to change the MID to 0p6b61000. The shell went to a $ prompt and not the # prompt the instructions called for. I tried 'us' as suggested and got a 'not found' response. I still tried the lengthy command listed, and got a restricted/locked/no permission/etc. (can't remember exact wording) response.
I joined HTC's DEV, so I could unlock the bootloader, and tried everything above and all the ROM files I have both as RRU and as ROM.zip on the SD card with the bootloader locked, unlocked and again with it relocked.
I did try editing out the serial and imei yesterday. I will try again after replying here.
I have an email into HTC's tech and so far no response from them.
Thanks again,
Dale

Probably a mistake. No AT&T in UK or Europe. And your product code m8_ul_ca signifies AT&T US or US Developer's Edition.
Doesn't really matter, in any case.

Based on that description, I'd suggest the US Developer's Edition RUU (6.12.1540.4). It is unbranded Sense, but already has the proper radio bands and APN setup for AT&T.

Is the phone rooted? It needs to be, to change the MID. I'm guessing that is why you aren't getting the # prompt.

If using the SD card install method, did you rename the RUU to 0P6BIMG.zip
With s-off, the RUUs will work whether the bootloader is locked or not. So it's kind of a waste of time changing it back and forth. I'd suggest leaving it unlocked, as that gives you the most options.
Also, most the Marshmallow RUUs for the US versions, have a weird requirement, where the firmware (hboot, radio, etc.) need to be updated, before the RUU will work.
So my suggestion would be:
1) Root and fix the MID to be AT&T/US Dev Edition
2) Flash the 6.12.1540.4 firmware from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development/progress-fuu-m8-t2813792
3) Flash the 6.12.1540.4 RUU

Should the bootloader version still be the same and not a newer version?
Is there a newer DEV version? AT&T ver is 6.2.................. DEV is 6.1...............
Will there be any connection issues with the baseband not matching the 4.0.U605................... version in my original AT&T M8?
Will it matter that the security patch level on the original AT&T M8 is 2016-13-01 and the new (now DEV) M8 is 2015-12-01?
What is the best free app to transfer everything between the phones?
I tried HTC's builtin app, but custom ringtones, alarms, WiFi connections and PWs, custom wallpapers and about 60% of my phone contacts did not transfer. I ran the app twice.
I also could not get the NFC transfer to work. WiFi, BT and NFC were all on on both phones, however following the instructions on the screen (tap and hold backs together until sound signals) did nothing with several tries and holding them together in excess of 5 minutes.
Thanks again for all the help,

No newer Dev Ed version. 6.12 is the last (final) one. I wouldn't have suggested it, if there was a newer one.
The difference in the numbering between Marshmallow AT&T versus Dev Ed is probably not too significant. Probably based on the same software base, just that AT&T takes so darned long to test and approve the updates (plus adding their branding and bloat), so it was one of the last MM updates to be released. In other words, not really a newer "version" in any significant way. Just released later.
Will there be any connection issues with the baseband not matching the 4.0.U605................... version in my original AT&T M8?
I wouldn't expect any. AT&T and Dev Ed are supposed to support the same bands. I've often wondered why AT&T version uses the strange baseband numbers (most other use 1.25, 1.29, etc.). But again, I suspect the actual differences are minimal or none.
Will it matter that the security patch level on the original AT&T M8 is 2016-13-01 and the new (now DEV) M8 is 2015-12-01?
Not sure if the patch date for the Dev Ed is correct. It would mean the patch level was almost a year old (when the RUU was released Dec. 2015), which is a bit excessive.
In the big picture, we are using Android versions with patch levels that are over a year old (unless you run an AOSP based custom ROM). So technically, there are more vulnerabilities (newer patch level is better). But how much difference this actually makes in practice is debatable.
In any case, I wouldn't personally run the AT&T stock ROM, just because it has a newer patch level (if that is what you are thinking). I personally hate the AT&T branding and crappy bloatware, it just wouldn't be worth it to me.
What is the best free app to transfer everything between the phones?
I tried HTC's builtin app, but custom ringtones, alarms, WiFi connections and PWs, custom wallpapers and about 60% of my phone contacts did not transfer. I ran the app twice.
I would recommend storing your contacts via Google. This way, it's on the cloud, and always backed up (automatically, and requires no additional action by you), and easily accessed. When you setup a new Android phone, and login to your Google account, your contacts will automagically just sync to the phone. It's one of the great things about Android. Doing it this way, might not be for everyone (for instance, you might have work and personal contact you like to keep separate). But I personally love it.
Files such as ringtones and wallpapers can be easily migrated. Literally, you can just copy and paste them. But you'll need an intermediary place to put them. Whether that be on a computer, cloud, etc. is up to you. It can be as simply as connected the "old" phone to a PC, copy/paste the desired files. Then connect the "new" phone to PC, and drag/drop the files to the correct locations.
WiFi connections and passwords, I don't usually migrate. I don't have that many of them, so I literally just enter them in again, when migrating to a new phone. Titanium Backup (requires root) and some other apps can migrate such data (as well as apps and app data).

That is largely what I was thinking/hoping.
I also hate bloatware, and wanted the DEV edition instead of a branded AT&T (or anyone else's) version.
Unrelated to this thread:
For what I do, I really like the M8, plus it is within my price range now that it is a few years old. Have you tried any of the custom Android 7 ROMs? If so, is there one you would recommend for the M8. I thought I would play around with the old phone and Nougat now that I have a good running phone again.
I love tinkering and challenges, so I am also going to try replacing the battery and charging port in the old phone. According to the couple YouTube videos I watched., it looks like it is well within the scope of my skill set.
Many thanks for your help with my M8, and any future help.
