WiFi hotspot - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hi, i was trying to find out if I could be connected to WiFi with ny nexus 7 and then use a Hotspot to broadcast the WiFi I am connected to. The reason I want to do this is because my ps4 is blocked on the router so I wanted to try this to get around it. Any help is appreciated.

You can't do it this way because when you broadcast WiFi, you disconnect from any WiFi you were previously connected to.
If you have a spare router, you can connect it to 'the router' using an ethernet cable and use it as an access point.

Is it possible to share wifi connection using Galaxy Nexus?

There is wifi network, but only 1 device can use it.
Suppose I connect my Galaxy Nexus to that wifi, is it possible to share that to other phones?
I know that I can share 3g connection to other phones via wifi, but is it possible to share wifi via wifi?
It is possible using pc though http://www.virtualwifirouter.com/
uhhh don't think that'd be possible. You can see that if you're on WiFi and try to turn on WiFi Hotspot, it disables your WiFi.
what kinda stupid network are you connecting to that only lets one device connect?
Are you able to allow more connections by changing settings in your router?
bow chicka wow wow.

I've just thought of this off the top of my head so don't blame me if it doesn't work but it would seem feasible if;
1) First phone set to share/tether via bluetooth to 2nd phone
2) 2nd phone turns on Wifi tether
3) other devices connect to 2nd phone.
Let us know if this works as I'm not about to collect all the phones in the house to test this out hahaha.

How to share WiFi to computer.

Hi,
don't ask me why but I need to share the wifi from my gnex to a computer.
My GNEX is connected to the internet over wifi, I need to share this connection from my gnex to another computer using wifi or cable.
Is this possible?
I solved, it seems that my GNEX is able to theter the internet over USB without additional software, it isn't able to share the wifi over wifi but this is not a problem since I can do it with the cable.

How do i get my phone to show on its own hotspot network?

I just bought a chromecast and I'm trying to figure out if I can get my GNexus to host the hotspot and be the chromecast remote.
In more detail:
I do not have internet from a cable/satellite company. The only internet connection I have is through my cellphone hotspot.
Chromecast will be connected to the internet through my cellphone hotspot (SSID: AndroidAP).
When my cellphone has the hotspot running it does not show up on its own network (AndroidAP).
I need the phone to show up on the network (AndroidAP) so that I can see the chromcast and use the phone as a remote.
Is this even possible?
Try Foxfi?

Honestly don't think this is possible.
It would be like trying to connect the phone to it's own Wi-Fi hotspot that it created?

Use Tethering as Lan Modem Connection?

I am trying to use my not just a hot spot tethering location, but as the internet access portal for my wireless lan. This way I can use multiple devices and not have to manually connect and reconnect to the phone for tethering. From the reading I've done, the best way is to connect the phone to the router through USB and set up USB tethering on the phone. Am I on the right path? Has anyone else done this? What kind of router do I need to pull this off?
TIA

Hi i was able to do this once. it worked great. i reset my router and somehow i cant the right settings again. heres what i did. connected mobile hot spot to computer via USB, i then bridged the connection with my Ethernet adapter. i then plugged a network cable to my routhers wan port (input) my router has a custom dd-wrt firmware. and i was able to leave hotspot connected to pc and share it out my eithernet port to my router, at that point my router would throw the signal to the air. unfortunately for me i for got my routers admin password, so when i reset the router to default i lost the settings that made it work. i haven't found them again. it works and it works well. if you have any luck let me know. i hope some of the info helps

I have a trendnet TEW-829DRU. I know it's overkill for a home network.

I dont believe it's overkill whatsoever. I had an asus router not too long ago. When I attatched it to the router and I turned on USB tether, it automatically detected that it was a modem. I was able to share my internet connection thru the router and broadcast the signal. As I understand it this is what your end goal is?
Yeah. Unfortunately the USB cannot be used to share a mobile connection. When I have the ethernet dongle plugged into the phone, usb tether stays greyed out. When I connect it to the WAN 2 port, the ethernet option stays greyed out. But I connect it to an open port the ethernet option becomes active and I can receive a data connection to surf on the phone.
As much as i know it's not possible to share internet via USB. If I'm wrong please let me know.
This will be possible soon: https://www.androidpolice.com/2020/...rives-in-latest-android-11-developer-preview/ although not sure if it will come to the Note 10+ and if so when.
Doesn't Settings>Connections>Mobile Hotspot and Tethering>USB tethering do the job?

Yeah but when you have a USB ethernet dongle USB tethering is greyed out.
What I did was to get one of these: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01N5RCZQH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and use it in client mode. Works perfectly.
