Hello everyone!
Well hoping I can get some direction because, well I'm a bit overwhelmed.
So couple weeks ago I bought a used Sprint Note4 with the original owners sim card installed.
So like most out there, I have been in search of info regarding unlocking to be able to use other Carriers.
So after a long scavenging hunt,"there's so much", I was able to Root my device using this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/orig-development/sm-n910-cf-auto-root-t2897428
&
http://www.reddit.com/r/galaxynote4/comments/320yc7/root_sprint_note_4_smn910p_on_501/
So now following this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...ide-sim-unlock-sprint-samsung-galaxy-t3119322
I've gotten stuck because, well I'm new to this and can't seem to pinpoint the necessary steps to complete the process.
I get confused with the following instruction:
Samsung Unlocker won't run on Stock ROM Lollipop, you have to flash Custom ROM from here to make SSU work (Tested and worked for my Sprint Note 4 outside U.Son GSM networks, do same thing for Sprint Samsung S4, Note3, S5).
Is there a specific Thread that can simplify Flash Custom Rom and has all complete steps, download links, etcetera for this specific model.
Don't get me wrong, I pulled an all nighter last night and I'm kind of exhausted!
I'm a newbie so...

So I've been trying to use this guide to unlocking the phone but I haven't been able to get the phone to upgrade to 4.1. I've been trying to use Kies to update it, but it always stops downloading at 69%. I do plan on rooting it anyway, so would I be able to download a stock image or custom stock image to do this? Also i've heard some problems about 3g on cincinnati bell, does that effect this phone?

for starters, you are using a guide for a different device. i'm sure you know this. things might not always get hairy, but when you're doing anything to these phones, be sure you are using proven techniques specifically for your make and model.
also, i'm assuming you purchased your device outright as unlocking subsidized/contracted phones became illegal january 26th (and that's why you've dug up unlocking material for a different model). if you bought the phone for full price, call your carrier as they will provide you an unlock code.
to respond to updating your android version, this link will allow you to download the latest stock firmware for your device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968625
cheers
I have read a bit and can't find a definite answer. I am going to pick up a att note 3 tomorrow that's been unlocked. Guy says he uses it on tmobile fine but my question is in terms of installing custom ROMs, how should I go about installing a tmobile version? I have read where people get better reception using tmobile ROMs but am uncertain about how and what to do. I know how to flash etc but also never messed with att phones on tmobile.
Do you guys that are running an att version do any extra steps or? Do you flash Tmobile radios?
Any help is appreciated.

It's too bad that you got the AT&T model phone instead of the Tmobile.
You will not be able to have the wifi calling feature (perhaps you don't need it)
Also the AT&T Note 3 requires "safestrap" before you can flash custom recovery,
roms, kernels or anything else which requires custom recovery (TWRP/CWM).
Here is a link which explains Safestrap and instructions on how to install it on
the AT&T note 3 phones: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2572978
Good luck!

Thanks for the information.
Hi folks,
I'm an ATT cellular user but I got tired of the locked bootloaders that the ATT devices have. I bought from a reputable seller on Swappa a factory unlocked unused replacement SGH-M919, since T-Mobile devices are generally compatible with ATT networks, and don't have locked bootloaders. I figured it would come with NB4, and was all prepared to Towelroot it and install a custom recovery and trip my Knox warranty counter.
Lo and behold, when I turned it on (no SIM installed yet), it has the 4.2.2 MDL firmware. <shocked happy dance> NO KNOX AT ALL! :good:
Question 1: is there any risk of the thing downloading and installing the NB4 update if it has no SIM at all, just a WIFI connection? I've disconnected it from the wifi here at home for now. In fact, it's off.
Question 2: I need to test out the "Factory Unlocked" part of the equation in the next couple days so I can complete the sale. If I put in an ATT SIM (and configure the APN manually for ATT settings), is there any risk of it downloading the NB4?
I figure it must be connected to the T-Mobile network to get an update, but just wanted to check to make sure before I accidentally mess up this godsend.
Question 3: It looks to be straightforward from here, right? Root with CF-Autoroot, install TWRP or CWM, install ROM... right? I'm no stranger to ODIN or flashing stuff (after all the messing around needed on ATT phones... safestrap.... the horror of a locked bootloader).
FWIW I'm headed straight to Dirty Unicorns ROM. Looks like a really cool ROM. So much more to choose from on the T-Mobile M919 than on the I337 ATT phone.
If I've missed anything, please let me know. I will start a thread on my "ATT User with M919 Experience"... I've missed such a thread here, and with lots of ATT folks sick of locked up boot loaders, maybe my fumblings will help someone.
Thanks in advance for any insight.
Marc
1) No, it may say there is an update but it won't download it or update without your concern
2) only if you select OK to download and update.. You can still OTA, it doesn't have to be running on T-Mobile network
3) you can use cf-auto root but its not needed. Just flash recovery with Odin, and flash ROM like you normally would
Thanks. For some reason I thought I had to have root to flash the recovery. This probably stems from my experience with an ATT phone where root was required to install SafeStrap, which was the only recovery option we had.
Awesome.
I will start a thread later this week to collect info to help other ATT users with these phones.

Hi AlI, hope I posted this question in the correct area. I am new to the whole flashing /rooting . I've watched several videos and read tutorials but I'm confused about the order of how to go about doing what I want to do. ..??
I purchased an Unlocked AT&T Galaxy 4 mini from eBay.
I want to flash it to a stock T-Mobile ROM -Kit Kat 4.4.2.
Do I need to root the phone first before attempting to flash it?
Or can I do the Flash T-Mobile ROM without rooting.
I don't want to turn my phone into a brick!!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Excited to learn how to start doing this, thanks again, Dan.
This forum is for the T-Mobile s4, not the s4 mini.
You cannot cross-flash stock ROMs from one Samsung phone to another Samsung phone using Odin; however, you may be able to flash ports from other Samsung phones using a custom recovery.
I just finished paying off my Galaxy Tab S4 (T837A), finished the unlock process, and now want to remove the AT&T link on it so I can use everything on it elsewhere. Specifically I'm wanting to get the stock android hotspot setup instead of being forced to do a weird workaround to bypass MyATT.
What is my best bet to do so? Rooting and flashing a custom ROM? Flashing different firmware?
It's been about 6 years since I've messed around with android systems, and I was hoping it would be as easy as ATT unlocking it and then getting access to all the base settings, but I'm not that lucky haha. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
You can try flashing T837V firmware, which is verizon version. Any function other than calling & sms works as it should.
