Annoying App Notifications - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A couple of years ago I made the switch from Samsung to LG phones. I had the LG G3 prior to my current G4. I really have no complaints with LG and their products. Samsung never gave me any travel chargers, free batteries, micro sd cards or free leather backs with their phones. My only problem is with annoying app notifications. I turn them all off; one by one only to see that they've magically reappeared and changed their permissions. Is this an LG problem or an Android problem? Why can't I turn off all app notifications at once? Please help.

[Q] AT&T LG G3 Quick Circle Wireless Charging Case Problem

hello everyone. I'm hoping you can help me. I have an LG g3 for AT&T. I bought the quick circle wireless charging case and the Duracell Powermat charger. It worked fine for 2 days but all of a sudden stopped working. I went into the store with all of the accessories and we tried it on two different powermats. It did not work at all. We tried other wireless phones with charging capabilities on both Powermats and it worked fine. They were out of stock on the case, order me a replacement, it came in today and I went to the store to pick it up. I tested it at the store and it still didn't work. Something is wrong with my phone's wireless charging capability. Has anyone else had this issue with wireless charging on the at&tq G 3? Before I return the phone for another one, meaning because its been longer than 14 days I have to actually have a new one mailed it to me and then have a new screen protector put on, a reset up the phone, etc. I want to make sure its not some setting I'm missing or something else I'm not thinking of. Any help you can provide is most appreciated. Thank you very much.

Ok so, a bump as nobody has replied yet, but second here is an update.
After battling with AT&T for a few days about getting an exchange (they wanted me to send it in to their device center, blah blah) they agreed to give me a brand new one in the store. I went in, swapped the device, tested it with the case, low and behold it worked perfectly. No problems at all. I went and got a new Zagg Glass shield put on at Best Buy, went home, all was fine. LG has a built in back up / restore service that saves to the SD card so honestly it wasn't a totally awful experience getting it all reset up.
Anyway, we are now three days later and last night I put it on the charger, it worked fine. I got up this morning, no charging happening. It is at 90% battery. What the hell? I rebooted, cleared cache, removed backplate and battery, unplugged/replugged in the wireless charging plate - nada. It doesn't charge wirelessly anymore. Charging directly works fine.
I think it's time to call LG because this is getting to be a bit ridiculous. I am using a PMA wireless charging plate purchased from AT&T. I am using an LG branded quick circle wireless folio case. I have not rooted, haven't messed with anything, etc. I am using on a protected power surge power strip. I don't know what else it could be, but something is frying the contacts in the phone and negating the wireless charging ability (.
I've also experienced this. On my second phone now. Thankfully, I was still within my 14 days with Best Buy and was able to exchange the first phone hassle free. Best believe, though, that when I exchanged it, I put the Best Buy Geek Squad protection on the phone. I got lucky this time, was 12 days into owning the phone when the wireless charging went out and thought it was the case. All local AT&T stores were sold out of the case, so I ordered a new one online. Then I read a thread online somewhere that detailed the same exact problem and their solution was to exchange the phone. Had I not exchanged the phone then and waited for my new case to arrive and not solve the problem, I would've been SOL.
But yeah, same experience as you. AT&T LG G3, official PMA wireless charging Quick Circle Folio Case, 2 different Duracell Powermats (1 single device mat and 1 two device mat). Wireless charging went out after 12 days of owning the device.
You might get a better response if you posted in the AT&T forum.
same problem, different day.
My story is almost the exact same as the above. First failure was 5-6 days after receiving my wireless charging case from at&t online. After testing out my equipment, I went to the at&t store and tested my charging case with a new g3. The new one charged fine. Had to call customer svc, after some argument got a refurb. Wireless charging lasted one day.
I'm really worried that this is a pervasive problem. However, very few people have the charging case yet. If anyone has had the charging last more than 2 weeks, can they post it here?
Moderators, can you move this thread to the at&t section for ease of searching? It seems to only occur with the AT&T LG g3 with PMA charging
Maybe Att just likes to screw people over. PMA charging isn't something I want especially when qi is more reliable. Could it be the hardware in the phone failing because Att had to be special?
That's my assumption too. Last minute PMA kludge.
Same thing has happened to mine...
Same here ditto on the whole situation. I am in the process of fighting with AT&T exchange phone.

AT&T uses a different signal type for it's wireless charging. If you don't have the right type of power mat it won't work properly and might work only every now and then. As for your device being the problem, that is unlikely as the case itself is what allows you to charge wireless by adding the charging sensor
i know it might sound silly but...
I know it may be a silly question but are you guys using the charger that came with the phone? Its just that if you aren't it may be because the charger hasn't got enough ampage. I have the lg wireless charger and i tried using an older usb charger and noticed that it would charge a bit then stop. I tried it on the original lg charger and it worked a treat.
I decided to purchase a second lg charger just to use with the wireless charger and all is good.
Same problem x2
I experienced the same problem. While troubleshooting I found the case and charger worked fine on my wife's phone. Tried switching batteries with no change. AT&T replaced my Phone and it worked again for a week. Now wireless doesn't charge and even the USB and cable that had been working in the past don't work.
Very frustrating

Maybe another Touchscreen issue, Please Help, urgent

Hi,
yesterday I bought a G4 H815.
I have the following problem: If my phone is on the bed next to me, or lying on a table, the touchscreen response is terrible. If I'm holding it in my hand, there's no problem. If it's charging and so lying on the bed, there's no problem either. It sucks when scrolling on Facebook (it doesn't scroll sometimes, but opens something instead, sharing, commenting etc), when typing a message, and even when waking up the screen with double knock.
I searched a bit on the internet and I found a guy, who had a problem like this but with another phone. He had a grounding issue after having the touch screen changed.
What could be the problem here? Maybe grounding, or some kind of isolation is faulty? Or is it the ISSUE everyone is having?
I bought the phone yesterday, so I'd like to send it back to get a new one, but the shop tells me it's not a "problem" because a bunch of lg g4 users have this problem and a new update from LG will fix it..
But I don't think it's the same thing. What do you say?
What I don't get is that it's only producing the problem while lying on a flat surface (table, bed - the phone is lying still, that's not a problem), but when I hold it, or plug it into the wall, it's perfect. That's why I would think it's some kind of grounding issue, although I'm totally not competent in electricity.
I opened the service menu, dialing 277634#*# and I did it there:
I took a few photos with my Optimus Black, since I could't take any screenshots of the issue:
this is with my phone lying on the bed:
and here holding it in my hands, producing no problems at all.
Send it back and exchange the device.
Thanks, yesterday I've sent it back. I'm waiting now for a new one... I hope that the will send me one quickly.
I made videos of the problem..
lying on the bed, the touch screen responds very poorly:

Hi. I also bought a g4 and am having the same issue. Have you received your replacement? Does it work?
I had the same issue with a Galaxy S6... it's definitely a hardware issue.... get it replaced ASAP

Seems like similar issue as mine. The members here claim that it may be due to the curvature of the phone.
Yup, you need to get a replacement.
I had this problem with my wife's phone and mine. but i changed to a different USB cable (not stock) and the problem does not appear!

Hi
Same here.. Im with the second lg g4 device after i replaced the first
with this issue.. u waste your time all the lg g4 devices
that i checked were with this issue.. the only hope is that its
softwere issue and new kernel or rom will fix it...
a lot of users here already report about this issue.
u need to learn to live with it or just to buy other phone and not the G4.

Phone has multiple problems. Should I keep it?

So I recently just got this phone repaired from LG.
Lately the knockon feature bearly works when screen is off
And
When you power off the screen, the screen randomly turns on.
Would you guys keep the phone with these little problems?
Sent from my LG-H811 using Tapatalk
That barely qualifies as multiple problems or even problems, just turn it off or on with the power button, just like almost all other phones, the Knock-on feature is on very few phones.
I on the other hand have issues with the camera not turning on and now the flashlight too, don't know if you will get those or not, but you might, so maybe don't keep it, i certainly won't be buying from LG again.

G3 Freezing, restarting into bootloop

I'm back again XDA. Even more G3 problems!
So since the last time I posted, I've replaced the board on my G3. Everything was great up until the SIM reader quit out. Switched to an HTC One M9 and boy is it terrible. So I use the G3 for music, games, etc. Didn't bother rooting or anything. Running VS9854BA. It's always on Airplane mode with WiFi enabled, I try not to let it overheat since the WiFi went to **** on my last board. And what do ya know, as I was typing up a comment on Facebook the thing just freezes up, makes some ****ed up screeching noise, and tries to restart. I get boot looped and notice a red and blue led. So I pull the battery, hold down the power for a bit and throw the battery back in. It boots up. A few minutes later the phone freezes and does the same thing. The battery level was around 80% on this battery. I try another OEM battery and it works fine for the rest of the night. However, the phone is now doing the same thing with that battery. I've only had issues with non official batteries in the past. For example, one battery I have will make the phone reboot after using the camera. Anyways, I'm iffy on purchasing a new battery. I don't want to pay $6-10 on a POS that was made in 2014. And I don't want to gamble on buying a $15-20 OEM battery from LG, as it may still be old and degraded; or won't even solve the problem. I tried contacting LG to see if I could get any insight, or to see if they are selling newer manufactured BL-53YH batteries and have yet to hear from them. I have noticed most people have issues with LG phones two months after their warranty ends. I was surprised to see the G3 last a few years and would like to get some more time out of it. If my 2011 galaxy nexus still works flawlessly, so should the G3. In the meantime I put a little noctua thermal paste on the EMMC and was baffled by the temperature decrease in cpu z. It still doesn't fix anything though. Any thoughts here? Should I gamble and buy the battery or is this hardware failure?
TLDR: LG devices may be time bombs and their support sucks.
There seems to be a lot of bootloop/battery issues this week. I hope device is not a "time bomb".

"...as I was typing up a comment on Facebook..."
Maybe it's just the universe trying to tell you that Facebook sucks?
Kidding aside - it sounds like your phone is dying a slow death. Normally if you had just the restart issue I would suggest a new battery(even with the reboot at 80% - old batteries get weird), but with the sim issue combined with the screeching noise red/blue light reboot - which usually delivers a green screen kernel panic reboot - it sounds like the weirdness that occurs when a G3 dies.
If it were a bad battery I think it would just shut down, reboot to the LG logo, and then bootloop(that's what mine did when it failed); but failing G3 batteries do some weird things sometimes. To t-shoot a bad battery I guess you could try plugging the phone in and using it while charging to see if any troubles occur; if not, then invest in a battery. I can't say that is a fool proof way to check the battery though...the best way is always to replace it.
If it's (what is believed to be) a solder issue on the board - which a lot of G3 users have reported as the phone has aged - you can try the paper trick to create enough pressure on the chips to complete the solder connection or even using some heat to try and get some solder to reflow, but those are generally only temporary fixes...the issue usually comes back in time. It may be worth it to try the paper trick to help you troubleshoot your issues - if the trick fixes it briefly then you know it's a hardware issue and you can make a decision from there. If you have one of these solder issues it's just best to move on.
So flip a coin: replace the battery for @$20, or say eff-it and get a new phone; sounds like a tough decision...glad I'm not making it - yet.
*If you don't know what the paper trick is just search the G3 forums...screen flicker threads usually mention it and there are other threads out there too.

Samsung S8+ LED View Cover stopped working

Hey All
Last year i made the switch from iPhone to Samsung S8+ and i love it! Never going back
A couple days ago i updated my software and my LED view cover was working fine. I left my phone in my bag and went in for an exam at uni, came out and the LED notification's had stopped working! I've looked everywhere for an answer and i can't seem to find one on how to fix this! I didn't turn anything off or edit any settings as it was in my bag. I've never had my NFC turned on so i know that isn't the problem. As far as i can tell the LED icon app is up to date. Weird thing is, the case still locks my phone when i close the cover and when i plug it in to charge the LED battery icon still comes up. So i'm getting no notifications, no time showing up and no battery percentage. I've checked and all notification settings are the same, nothing has changed. Has anyone else had the same problem and know how i can fix this? Thanks in advance
- J
Same for me. Lost the recepit and am stuck with it
Unfortunately LED covers aren't very robust. I also like it a lot (as it can be used to cut all unwanted notification), but unfortunately they don't last long.
Mine lost its touch sensor after a few months and the LEDs stopped after 1.5 years. The screen start/stop function was the only thing still working. Customers are often complaining about this, so this is not an isolated case.
What's worse, I think the cover is considered as an "accessory" and not as an "electronic device", so you get only a 6 month warranty and not 2 years.
Anyway, the price of the cover is quite low right now; finally I bought a new LED cover on Amazon for only €20 (which is about the price of a 3rd party dumb cover).
