Move OBB files to SD card - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all!
I've recently bought this tablet and i saw that for some apps you have to keep the obb file (which sometimes has an huge size) on the internal memory, even if you select "move app to sd card" .
I was wondering if there's any way to force the app to recognize the obb file on the sd card, possibly without rooting the device.
Thanks.

Need root and something like link2sd

Nope. it has to be rooted that is the only way or else your internal memory will be eaten up! my advise is to follow the directions of how to root without tripping knox in the general thread, I think your concerned about warranty. Then download "foldermount" in the playstore, voila!

Ok, if I follow that rooting instructions i will not void my warranty??

Yes you will and it will be only seen that it is rooted if knox has been tripped hence there is a way to root it without tripping knox. Good luck!

[Q] newb question maybe answered already Galaxy Note 2 first time android user

Hello All,
I just got my note about 1 week (SGH i317M) ago really enjoying it,
but couple question is still a wonder in my head..
i come from an iphone world so all this, is confusing for me
1) Could you root while keeping all your things intact (base band, kernel, build)?
2) Also ive seen couple threads saying that you can't use a micro sd card has an internal drive,
Does my phone has to be rooted to be able to do this?
3) Let say i custom root my phone is there a way back to revert the official samsung firmware if i don't like it
4)how come i don't have multi window on my device is it part of a new android Version right now i'm on 4.1.1?
Thanks
1) Yes. Check out chainfire's auto root in the original android section. It's the best rooting method for beginners.
2) I don't quite understand what you mean. Both FAT32 and Exfat format micro sd work in my note2. However, note2 doesn't allow you to move apps to sd card. There are workarounds that can help with that issue (such as: external to internal swap / Directory bind) but those of course require root. Again, I'm not sure I understood the question correctly.
3) Yes. You just need to flash stock firmware over again or factory reset.
4) You need to update your firmware. Two of my friends who bought note2 didn't get multiwindow out of the box even though it was 4.1.1. They got it once they updated.
What I understand

I think he means "Can he use the SD card as an internal drive?". That is the SD card as internal memory.
He comes from iPhone world so he may not be able to frame the question properly.
Well you can always move the apps to the SD card it is a default Android feature.
But it still occupies some internal memory.
However, to partition the SD card and to use a partition as extended drive SD-EXT you need to root I guess.

I have been looking into this, the past 3 days and from my research I could say the answer is... no.
Everything I found on the net requires root access.
On my previous phone, a Note 3, I faced the same issue and when I formated the ext sd from within the phone, the problem mysteriously went away and I had -full- access to the ext sd.
Tried it on the M8 but no luck.
Why dont you also give it a try (after backing up your ext sd ofcourse) and tell me if you had any result.
My M8 is international version by the way. No carriers.

I'm rooted but I think I remember being able to transfer files between the internal and external storage by connecting my phone to my computer and doing it on my computer. Try that if you haven't already.
yes

Yes my friend, via pc it is possible. I suppose the OP,like myself, is looking for a solution from within the phone.
Thanks.

With the Update to 4.4.3 HTC included a file explorer to give a solution for this kitkat security feature. I already flashed the OTA to 4.4.3 aka firmware 2.22.401.4 and in fact moving files from the internal storage to sd card works with the file explorer delivered by HTC.
Hope this answer helps!?

Deleting files off ext/sd

Hey fellas.. Had a question.
I threw in a 32gb micro SD card loaded with movies and shows.
For some reason it is not allowing me to delete any files from the extsd while it's in the device (tab s 10.5). Something about Kitkat not allowing read/write privileges.
Any way around this besides removing the extsd and doing it in my laptop? [emoji106]
i think only to fix it to root your device or trying one of those without root https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.b1.android.filemanager I got tired so i just root also delete some usless apps lolz I got the same issue
I think there is an xposed mod/ apps in the play store that can have read/write privilages. But you have to be rooted I think skyhigh custom kernel fixs sd car problems too.
Use the Samsung file manager. It has privileges to modify any contents on the external SD card.

[Q] Game doesn't launch when the OBB is on SD card

I'm new to the Android OS.
As an experiment I tried to side-load a game by installing the APK and copying the OBB to the sd card (android\obb).
When running the game the game fails but if I copy the OBB to the phone the game loads just fine.
I also tried moving the game to the SD through Application manager and clearing the data before running it again but same problem.
Not sure if it's relevant but my phone is not rooted.
What am I doing wrong? I saw that all games have instructions to copy the OBB to the SD card.
One of the sad things about Android in the last year is they locked out writes to the sdcard. The only way to fix that is to root your phone. Sadly for the retail phone there is no current root option available. Even then not all games/apps work on the sdcard. Also what options you can do with a Sdcard if you have issues especially with sandisk ultra cards is exchange them. In your case its due to the locking of the sdcard in Android. You would need root. Theres a big bounty out for someone to find away to but its looking loke itll be done after lolipop Android 5.0.x is out in the next month or so.
Currently game data can't be moved to sd must stay in phone interior obb folder to work. Until root is achieved or supposedly we will be able to write to sd on 5.0 nothing we can do yet about it.

Is it possible to run Obb game files from external SD Card without ROOTing ?

Hello. I am new to this forum and I just bought a Tablet recently and it is my first Android device. I never used an Android device before.
My device has about 1 . 20 GB free space in its internal memory. I want to install games which has .apk and .obb files. But I would rather have them in the SD card instead of the internal storage. I can install .apk files from my SD card but the applications won't read/detect the .obb game files from the SD card. I hear you could use an app called " FolderMount " to do such a thing , but it requires me to ROOT the device for it to work. It has not even been a week since bought the device and I would hate to " void " its warranty in such a circumstance. Is there another way to which I could Run .obb or data files from SD Cards to play large sized games like 'Grand Theft Auto' and such ? Or is it possible to successfully unROOT the device to get the warranty back ? your suggestions and advices would mean a lot to me. Thank you.
