I use mobile data almost everyday but I have some problem with 4G LTE. If my network type is set to 2G/3G/4G, I get 4G signal and it work for just a few minutes. After a few minutes, all signal disappear. I don't have any Internet connection, not even cellular signal for calls.
But if network type is set to 2G/3G, it works flawlessly with 3G connection. (although I face some problem with 3G sometimes, but that is another story).
So did anyone else face this problem too? I'm using U Mobile in Malaysia which uses the 2600Mhz band.

First step is to always check your APN settings. Make sure they are identical with that of your carrier for 4G LTE.
Does this issue occur in one location or various locations? Please test with WiFi disabled.
Also recommend using ASUS ZenUI app called ASUS Support. There are several helpful tips with basic troubleshooting techniques for your device including including 3G/LTE troubleshooting. Please go to Apps/ASUS Support/Assistance/3G-LTE-WIFI-GPS/Weak or disconnected 3G/LTE signal.

I already set APN settings to what it should be but still no luck. And nothing in the Asus support app is helping.
I noticed that it happens to me when I'm on the go or I have a few 4G cell tower around me. I suspect it's because of switching of cell towers.

Got the same problem. moreover, my wife has an iPhone 6+, we have the same carrier but when we go in not so well covered areas (up to the alps for example) she always has signal while my zenfone loses sim1 for data&voice. sim2 is available but gives only voice coverage btw. signal detection is far better on iPhone. I've tried with another carrier, same outcome.
It seems that sim1 only works with very strong signal from the carrier

Try disabling the second Sim and then using 4g on the Active Sim( 1st One ).
On my device, the second sim's signal seems to interfere with that of the first one.
I can use 4G on 1st Sim only when i disable the second sim.
3G works flawlessly tho.
I guess this is a problem with active dual sims??

Try going to the phones dial pad and enter --: *#*#4636#*#* then select the first option " phone information" and then scroll down till you see the option to choose which type of bands you get or use.
I.e. GSM /LTE auto prl or CDMA/LTE auto, or all of them if global. Just some advise. Also make sure your APNS are correct for your carrier.

I will be using the phone on AT&T and I was wondering if the option to turn off 3G is present or use 2G networks. This would be under mobile networks. I ask because I get better coverage on EDGE and have wifi. AT&T has also removed this feature on their Androids for god only knows why.
So can anyone using the phone on AT&T comment whether or not this option is there and if it works correctly? Thanks

Of course. Here's the standard mobile network screen:
But when you're on WiFi it doesn't matter. It disconnects mobile data anyways.
Thanks. With my iPhone 4 I was able to turn off 3G and be on Wifi and have a very strong signal versus leaving 3G while being on Wifi and having 1 bar.

You can manually drop to "2G only" when you turn on WiFi if you want, but it automatically disconnects data when you connect WiFi. All phones hold onto signals to different extents. if you find your phone always on the edge of a 3G/2G handoff, the "2G only" switch will do it for you.
You can always grab a widget to do so as well. Most of the popular ones (I use Widgetsoid) offers a 2G only/2G+3G/3G only toggle type.
Is anyone experiencing a long delay when dialing out? I am on stock rooted ROM. One of my buddies is having the same issue also. The delay is about 5-10 seconds. I don't have this issue when I use the same SIM card with my old iPhone.

I have this with my Note II, and so did my Note I and my Streak.
I have seen this on a few of my friends devices. Test this for me
Make a phone call and watch your data icon. It will go from 4g LTE to 4g then disappear the the call will go through.
Then call your phone and watch as the data icon goes from 4g to nothing then ring.
It seems to b a problem with a few select phones. Not sure if its a software or hardware issue. But I have reported the issue to at&t and samsung . Due to the fact that I have seen it on 4 phones

This is exactly what I have noticed!!!! I am also not sure if it's a software or hardware issue.
Seems normal to me. Voice over LTE is not (yet) enabled/available/supported. For voice, the radio has to switch from LTE to UMTS, and then establish a connection to the new network.

Just a quick check - is data set to be LTE-only? You generally can't have simultaneous voice and LTE data.
You could try turning off LTE data and forcing WCDMA/GSM data. That might help.
Also, the signal has to be very strong for simultaneous voice and data. When there is low signal strength, the carrier may have elected to suppress data in favour of voice.
You could also experiment with other baseband firmware. That has made a difference on some of my other phones. The configuration of the carrier's towers plays a big role. However, in my limited experience, signal strength has been the key factor.
Good luck!
I have had two phones with the stock builds and base bands next to each other with all the same settings and one works fine the other doesn't.
The weird thing on top of it is that 50% of the time when making outgoing calls it fails. And when people call they receive the message that the line is no longer in service
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
Stab in the dark: That sounds like a loose antenna connection - if it happens to the same phone all the time (that was the cause of a similar issue on my old Moto Milestone); or a carrier issue - if it happens on the same tower. (Just because two phones are side by side doesn't mean that they are connected to the same tower.)
The code for radio info is *#0011# http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1802028 (I know we're not talking about fast dormancy - well, we are talking about radio state switching for the OP - but that thread and Erica's two XDA videos on fast dormancy have lots of good info on radios and data.)
I'm all out of ideas now ...
The tmobile service in my area sucks and it will stay on 4g lte even when I have a very bad connection which drops calls and gives me really bad speeds. Is there an app that will automatically switch lte/gsm/wcdma when the signal is very low so I wont drop calls, waste battery and give me poor dl speeds? Or is there anything else that I can do? Maybe with tasker or a tweak. I would appreciate any type of solution. Thank you.
Is there any thing I can do about this?
On stock Rom go to settings>more networks>mobile networks>network mode.
Pick the one you want. Probably gsm/wcdma auto connect.

Thank you for your reply. I already know about that option. I still want to have access to lte when I have a decent connection. Is there an app or a tasker configuration that if the signal is below a certain level it will switch networks? Also, which network it used to make phone calls? I thought all of them but my friend said phone calls are made on 2g. Thank you!

Is there any solution for this? Also when you are connected to lte are you still making phone calls through 2g? Thanks.
Is this a problem near your home? Can you use wifi calling to help fix the dropped calls? Not sure about how to get the phone to switch from LTE to 4G when the connection is poor. I do it manually right now because my LTE has been acting a little wonky lately where it won't even connect to LTE and leaves my phone in network limbo unless I force it to use 4G. I'd like to see a solution to the LTE - 4G switching too.
Last i recall, there is no tasker or app capable of doing such a thing like switching network preferences. It goes against "policy" per say. But your friend is right about calls being made through 2g. That is how you are able to use data whilst on a phone call. The data is being used through 3G and up, while the call is being used on 2G. now i am not sure about T-Mobile's "HD Voice" calling, that is prolly LTE.
I myself have looked through every single API google has trying to write my own app to change the network preferences and could not find it. There may be an option through root though. Havent found it yet.
Correct.
Calls - 2G
Data - 3G+
TM HD - New LTE Network.

So, i'm in the UK with my nice shiny OP3 (on Three UK) - I am rooted with twrp, but same applies on stock.
The radio in this phone seems to prefer H+/3G to 4G, even though where i live, i have full bars on both. My nexus 5 always prefered 4G, and the OP3 is set to prefer 4G but 90% of the time drops to 3G/H+
Another interesting thing, if i use the testing menu to force LTE only, even if it's on 4G already, completely stops any signal getting through for a number of minutes until it decides to connect sometime later. I have full LTE signal in my room too.
Is this a radio problem that could be solved in the future with a software update? not seen anyone else with this issue!
FYI, when it is on 4G, it's super fast and stays connected until a reboot, where the whole process starts again

APN Is exactly the same as my nexus 5, and i even added a new one. Same deal.
I'm an IT Professional, just not a developer. i've done everything i can think of. 4G does work, but only when it wants to. My phone is also registered with my carrier correctly.
Bump on this anyone?
I am having a similar problem I guess. I have the dual sims installed and one sim randomly shows no range. Further, the network preference is not the way it is supposed to be - Chose it as 4G and if 4G is not detected it falls back to 2G.

I first put my sim into slot 1 when I first got the device, I was having the exact same issue. I found that the data priority sim, or if you only have one sim needs to be in sim slot 2.

Yes exactly. And even then it doesn't show up straight away despite 3/4 and usually full signal. Sometimes just putting it into standby mode and leaving it 20mins can sort it... Until I get another call lol. Wondering if it's just a software or firmware issue that could be patched. Lte is fine it's just never preferred despite the options being set

APN is not the universal response. Here he faces a problem of inaccurate network type choice, APN is only to have acces to internet through the provider's proxies. It's a radio problem clearly, the baseband is probably to be corrected by OnePlus.
It's really a strange thing to see those network type issues, MMS issues are still present after all those years.

This is what I thought. It's probably an easy fix for oneplus or rom developers. Custom radios are nothing new. Let's hope so anyway!

Same issue here, have never got it to say 'LTE' for me since I got the phone, best it does is 4G whilst my Galaxy S5 would happily pickup LTE. Hi,
In the network menù of my unlocked no brand S9+ with Exynos SOC I can't choose to have only 4G and 3G like in LG devices, do You know if there is some secret code or something like that?
My goal is to have the phone only connect to 3G and 4G networks, and never connect to 2G network
Thanks a lot.
I didn't have that option on my S7 and I don't have it either on my S9. It has only 2 options with "only": 3G and 2G.
But I don't miss that, as my goal is having my phone connected to the best available network. For this "LTE/3G/2G (auto connect)" setting works great.

The problem is that once the phone switch to 2G, it will not be possible to return to 3G or 4G unless you close the call, this means worse voice quality and no data connection until you're stuck in 2G.
There is an app called 4G Switcher that I use to set it to UMTS/LTE only. Try it.

You are technically correct, but the chance of that happening - starting a voice call while only in 2G coverage, moving to a 3G/4G area while still speaking and needing data connection while speaking - is a very long shot. Not to mention that if you force 4G/3G and there is only 2G coverage, then you can't make a voice call at all. So between a lesser quality one and not being able to do it, I'll choose the former.
But my opinions are based on my experience, my destinations and the 4G/3G coverage in my country (Romania). There are extremely rare circumstances where there is no 4G/3G coverage here.
I'm using Vodafone Italy, one of the best mobile operator here in Italy, and when I make a long call, i mean longer than 15 minutes, sooner or later it always got stuck on 2G.
So it is a very annoying behavior, and I can't understand why on a LG phone I can exclude 2G and with a Galaxy S9+ I can't.
Any update on this? It is very annoying e.g. when you're calling inside a car to always go and stay stuck in 2G until the end of the conversation, without data connection working
I want to know this too! I always have better 4G reception than 2G but sometimes it gets stuck to 2G.
up, any update about this?

I can confirm that even now, if I start a call under 4G and I'm driving, soon it will switch to 2G, no matter what I do, and I'm using Vodafone Italy, one of the best network here.
