Is anyone else experiencing front facing camera distortion?
I'm too embarrassed to take selfies or even use snapchat because of the craziness it does to my head and face.
Try it and tell me if yours does it, put your forehead in the top of the frame, or your chin at the bottom. It totally warps your face. The camera makes my head small when it's in the middle yet makes my nose huge when it's up close. Stock camera app or third party app, it's still there. The distortions are actually ridiculous.
This is too unacceptable for a phone which was supposed to have an awesome front-facing camera. I'm probably going to take it back and wait for 64-bit phones if there is no solution for this. I'll take a low field of view versus such heavy distortion any day.
I have not experienced anything like that ever - for me it's actually been the best front facing camera I've had.
Beauty face was on by default by quite a bit which can make pictures look really weird sometimes, so maybe check that? I'm not sure what else could cause that.

This was a known issue in GS5, but it turned out that it wasn't an actual problem! it's a wide angle lens on the front camera that the edges distort the image a little bit. So if you use different resolution, the faces won't look distorted!! hope this helps~
Maybe ya ain't such a BEAUTY FACE after all... ?

I can't use a different resolution in apps such as Snapchat (the only time I actually take selfies). Hopefully a custom rom/app will fix this later. For certain angles the distortion is just terrible, though.

I have a beautiful face, the Note 4 is worse than an unflattering camera, it literally distorts the hell out of it.
I ran your picture thru my note 4

The face is squished on one side, and stretched on the other.

I have the same problem, had a lg g3 and I am disappointed
Yeah I have this problem too. It's distorted and also very laggy. It's a very wide camera angle too. I'm hoping there's going to be a module to fix it.
The one solution that I have is to turn a filter on the front facing camera and see if that fixes it. I know you can't use those filters on Snapchat but try it and see if it's any better.
That's odd there's multiple people reporting this. When I read the OP I assumed you had a faulty front camera. My front camera is MUCH better than any other phone I've had! I didn't think even had a wide angle lense but simply offered the option for "Wide-Selfie", which is similar to Panorama on the rear camera.
Wide angle lenses all suffer from this issue. The note has a wide angle lens, the only way to avoid this is to stay away from the edges of the screen.
Note 4 camera distortion
My note 4 is experiencing the same problems, I absolutely love this phone but I am so disappointed with the front camera distortion, especially in snap chat. If anyone can help. please let me know.
Note 4 camera distortion SOLVED!
I know this thread is quite old but I wanted to share the solution I found which is simply to change the picture size or more specifically the aspect ratio. I believe the default photo size on Note 4 is 3.7 M with 16:9 aspect ratio, if you change to 4:3 aspect ratio the distortion goes away. No more cone head

THANK YOU SO MUCH! Your solution worked for me on my LG V20!!! I've been wondering about this issue for the last couple of years actually, especially when I had the S3 and S5. I didn't realize it was actual problem with Android phones until I Googled a couple days ago and found this thread! Thanks again for saving my sanity! LOL! ???
Or I have a broken unit or camera is really bad, making macro photos is impossible and this useless autofocus when try to scan some barcode
this Camera is really so bad, after reading couple of reviews camera should be excellent, but is worse than nexus 5 ?
CPU is overheating constantly even while searching something in Google Play, this is also normal ?
Or maybe I have chinese fake
Somethings wrong with your phone the camera is great neck and neck with my bro's s6 imo. Also day to day tasks shouldn't overheat. Camera is a little slow right now but future updates should fix.
User error I bet... Every camera has a minimum focus distance.. You're probably too close

You should also try and test a third party camera app from Play store which supports latest Google Camera2 API, like AZ Camera.
The problem is that the minimum distance between object and camera lens is really long (longer than in Nexus 5 or cheap cameras with autofocus) and this makes impossible to make macro photos
I've noticed macro is pretty difficult to do too.

You're beautiful and everyone knows it. That's why you take selfies. Rate this thread to express how the front-facing camera of the LG G5 performs. A higher rating indicates that the front camera produces fantastic results consistently.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Would've been 5 stars if the front camera wasn't prone to suddenly getting really grainy, really dark, or really bright. Will update if the 10d update fixed that.
hello im new here. i dont know if you guys notice front selfie camera. at night while taking pictures, the camera lags, making picture quality blurry. i also notice if i smile while snapping the pic, in the outcome pic, im already not smiling and my eyes half closed, its funny. weird. heres another one. you save the pictures on SD card, there would be no lag/delay in camera , while if you change setting and change to storage to device, then take 2-3 pics then delete those pics, you will see a black screen for like 3 seconds before returning to the camera screen itself. please anybody...if theres anyone working for LG here, please fix. i have done the hard reset as the agent told me. but to no avail. i think this one needs another update , i love this phone but it needs camera bug updates because it gets so annoying already. given that the lg g5 has the 8mp front camera, this is weird.
i have the verizon one.
Hi
Hi, sorry, may i ask bout LG Stylus 2, i want to search about mirroring like samsung but i can not to find it. did you know how to solve it.
thanks
Front camera always looking a bit too smooth, like the beauty filter is active, but its deactivated.
Yeah, exactly.... When you are a girl that's probably good thing, but for man is freaking anoying with this filter, it looks really weird.... Any solution to this?
My front camera on my lg g5 is distorted, its blurred in the top and bottom of screen. I dont know why. Anyone experience this?
The front facing camera is great. I am very impressed.
Can't say the front facing camera is very good. Better than alot of other phones but its grainy smooth and loses so much detail.
Front camera on my G5 sucks totally. The highlights always get a pink tint and the camera doesn't feel like something that should be present in a flagship device. I have the OnePlus 3 too, which performs much better than my G5. Even the rear camera isn't as good as it should've been. I use the Indian variant H860 with the lastest software available for it ~ V10m
this one is better than s7 edge?
My RN5Pro is running on stock miui version 9.5 the front cam is nice in low lights but the dissappointung part is that the front cams focus is fixed so that the pictures took in front cam has a little blurry nature the details are missing and face looks like painted .. is there any way to make manual or autofocus work on the front cam .. i have tried so many camera apps but while switching to front cam the focus looks locked .. if rooting and enabling camera2api helps it .. im noob here so someone who knows plzz reply.......
....
As you wrote it, its FIXED.
The RN5 has a strange, short focus distance. The distance is about an arm away: if you take a selfie, make sure you hold the phone as far as you can in your hand. But if you use a selfie stick, its too far, and faces will be blurry.
Earlier phones had a front cam, that was fixed to near infinite, so almost everything looked "sharp".
This new objective system provides a natural bokeh effect on the front cam, and if you're in focus, its very sharp. But the focus range is really short, so you're easily fall in or out of the focus point.
I also heard this problem from a Samsung A5 2017 user.
tl;dr: There's no mechanical focus on the front can, you cant change the focuspoint.

as u said one of the pic i took had sharp details which i took in an arm length but when i tried it ones again the focus became blurry ...... i want to know that is there any way to change the fixed focus point by any means...
Theres no way to change it.

cruel thing ??????
I've been using the camera and testing it for the past week. I've noticed that the 4x rarely ever activates and the phone uses the main camera with a digital zoom instead. This is consistent in videos too which defeats the purpose of a telephoto lens. Anyone else with similar experience?
I also noticed this, it has something to do with the focus and the lighting conditions. Try to vary your position/distance and you should be able to easily notice that. The phone decides on its own when the transition to the periscope lens is to be made. So sometimes it works when having 4x zoom, sometimes it only activates with 5x. Sometimes it's even a little bit less than 4x. Hopefully Google will add a manual control button later on.
No matter how good conditions are, the 4X camera lens never gets used in video mode. Anyone else with same?
The way it determines it is based on the focal distance. It's unable to focus below a certain distance so when you are too close to the subject it will zoom further with the regular lens before switching over

The 4x zoom will only activate if you have 30 fps selected and possibly only with 4K, I had the same problem initially. Definitely should not be this way though.

That must be why all of those reviews were shot in 4k30. I kept seeing that in every single review video, and I wondered why.
