Q&A cloudy g3 2.5 for Verizon users - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Here I've created a Q&A thread just for Verizon users who have issues or fixes for different issues plaguing Verizon users of this Rom

Reserved

This is a great idea. I hope VS985 users will find this

As I am an owner of a vs985 myself...this is a brilliant thread, thanks! I haven't had the pleasure of running CloudyG3 yet as a daily due to my MMS issue. I have tried a numerous of things to fix it such as, using Hangouts as my default app, editing the build.prop (which turns into a disaster), and some 3rd party SMS applications. I've tried Textra, chompSMS and a couple of others with no luck. I was just reading over at the Verizon G3 thread that MMS will work if you have Verizon and use the Verizon+ messaging app that is available in the Google Play Store. I am in the process of making a nandroid so that I can flash CloudyG3 and pray that the Verizon messaging app allows me to receive/send MMS. Will report back with results later on tonight, hope this helps any of the VS985 owners like myself that are trying to get this ROM running as a daily. MMS and Group messaging are just a deal breaker for me, aside from that the ROM is excellent!

Ran cloudy for a few weeks as a vs985 owner. The only issue I had was poor battery life. Rom itself is nice. G4 apps are great as well as UI. The mms issue never hit me running YAATA which is a superb sms / mms app. Furthermore if you get the right apn you shouldn't have any issues. Did the same for Lion rom which had better battery life. Between both of them I'd have to give Lion the nod. One issue for us is the rom itself is based on 20i or 20p where we are 24b (23c at that time though) and it's ported for us. I'm thankful but wish it was built from our base giving reassurance for data / etc. Anyway @Robshr great idea here. Hopefully this will help those unable to get Cloudy running on their vs985.

Is this solid for anyone? I'm coming from strictly AOSP Roms and want to give LG Stock a shot for a while. Is it worth it with this being a port or can I expect less over heating and better battery? My phone over heats terribly.

It's not bad but for a more solid Rom for the vs985 try skydragon along with the ctt mod which helps with the heat

@lppoliyo1971 I froze the stock messenger app with titanium and installed Google messenger. Mms works great and sms. So I will use that. I tryed using the apn from sd but to no luck fixing stock.

Well, since you're looking for questions, I can help you out:
in terms of strictly speed/performance/battery life (not features), how does cloudy compare to stock ROM? To Skydragon? (if you have experience with it)
what is its functionality on version 24B?
Are there still issues with Verizon being CDMA? I know that late last year that was an issue with Cloudy
Thanks!

Compared to stock cloudy is far superior now compared to skydragon its about the same maybe cloudy has it on speed and performance but skydragon has better battery
I don't know about 24b if there's much of a difference and as far as getting 4g with cloudy I haven't had a problem the only problem I had was with bluetooth but that might have been fixed with his latest version I haven't had time to flash it yet hoping to be able to this weekend

Is there a way to make the navbar buttons take up most of the nav bar and not so close together? Mine seem so small.

If you're running xposed there are a couple different modules that might help with that also depending on what launcher you are using will make the buttons look different

Stock lg home. Yes im running xposed with g3 tweek box 1.4.1 also paid for the unlocker.

My issue with cloudy is that I would get the notorious com.android.phone error and it would keep popping up. Anyone know how to fix it? I've looked all over the thread and its why I switched to skydragon.

You'll get that if coming from a different Rom the only way to fix it it's to format both the internal and external sd cards that will clear any old data left from the previous Rom

Pretty sure the external doesn't require it, but it would make sense for the internal storage. I'll try it out tonight.

MIUI Port Team

Does anyone want to form a team for MIUI porting? The ROM I have is working almost flawlessly, missing just signal. Everything else works (as far as I know). Anyone willing to help?
By the way, for helping me progress thus far, I couldn't have done it without xboxfanj. I'm a noob and am just getting the hang of this, hence, xboxfanj helped with most of this stuff.
MIUI is an awesome ROM allowing customizable themes that can change literally everything. You can change the status bar, lockscreen, home screen, and more all in just one app called themes. Plus, the ROM is super fast and has a lot of toggles, and much more to come with the help needed. Please, this ROM is one of my favorites, if you guys can help, it is much appreciated.
I can't help, but I'm curious as to what base you're using..CM or TouchWiz?

You are incorrect in your answer, it's already been done. So, my question still stands to the OP. As far as I know, patchrom currently only works with ICS however. Maybe you have sources beyond mine. Here's something to look into though. https://github.com/MiCode/patchrom

I'm sure. I edited my last post with some more info. I'm pretty sure the international S3 used TW as a base. Also, I'm sure that on the Evo 3D the MIUI is now using a Sense base.

i think patchrom is to build from the miui source and might use some things from say sense or tw to fix things like wifi camera etc.. idk but ive never heard of miui built with a tw base. When i had a Epic 4g touch they said we first needed a cm7 rom in order to begin making a miui rom.

ah i see actually he just bundled some apps from tw like back when i had a galaxy nexus they had a touchwiz theme that included the launcher and s voice and some widgets. he said that he wanted to add some sammy features to miui so he did lol see tw roms use a different framework and most apps wouldnt work on miui however some people have taken there time to port over launchers and apps and put them there roms.
its like the opposite of putting https://play.google.com/store/apps/...?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5taXVpLm1paG9tZTIiXQ.. on a touchwiz rom
They have touchwiz based miui on the international note 2, and the at&t note 2. I had it running on my sprint note 2 the other day, but was unable to get the radios to function properly. I had signal, but couldnt select the network I wanted it on and apns werent fuctioning properly. Miui v4 is supposed to be based on stock rom, not aosp, its just easier to port aosp than incorporate it into stock.

I used CM beta (before alpha 1). xboxfanj helped me get partial signal working. There was 3g at first, but then something about sim card activation came up, and then i pressed dismiss..and well.. that made me lose signal. After that I got signal but with emergency calls only.

Indeed we do have a starting point. However, I used the updated version of MIUI for the int'l model to port. It's literally almost done. Only flaw is signal as far as I can see at the moment.
If I remember correctly, aren't all of the Note 2's basically the same thing with the exception of the modems and Networks? (GSM vs CDMA?) Isn't the International version using GSM?

I had that issue before, but I decided to undo the changes and just stick to emergency calls only at the moment. However, I didn't use the aosp version. It's not as easy as just changing stuff. Once you do so, another problem will occur. It's so annoying >.< That's why I've asked to form a team. I have 2 others so far. Xboxfanj and lbxmobbin & they do great work. We're literally almost done.. But don't ask for an ETA, just know that it's coming VERY VERY soon.

Ok well I get strait to the point I love my note 2 and would love to run a 4.2.2 rom .I have used pacman...aokp...and a couple others but it seems that no matter which one I used sending mms or reciving them does not work. Any help would be appreciated .exact situation is go into stock messaging app choose an attachment and try to send it but it will just stay in the sending stage and eventually fail after an hour and as for reciving .I dont recieve anything from anyone when it comes to mms .I know it isnt my network because when I use any 4.1 or 4.1.2 rom it works perfectly.:crying:

I have this issue all aosp roms have these issues they will get worked out as is took 4 months to get the galaxy s3 aosp roms to be 99% bug free. Flash back to a touchwiz rom update your prl and profile then flash your aosp ROM. Go SMS is better than the stock touchwiz or aosp imop lots of useful features.

I have the same exact issue and have found no solution. Combine that with the fact that GPS won't work over LTE and it's enough for me to just stick with TW which is performing near perfect for me.

Guys I haven't experienced any issues when I flashed Whompasaurus, which is basically a souped up version of stock. It gave me the ability to overclock at 1.8Ghz, keep my touchwiz features for s-pen etc., and allowed me to do it all through AROMA, an interactive user interface of installing what I wanted to keep stock and what I didn't care about installing. Give it a shot....

Verizon Visual Voicemail and Andtoif 4.3/Sense 5.5

I have been switching between NOS 2.01 and NuSense One and neither of the latest builds have Verizon Visual Voicemail functioning correctly. I do not currently have enough posts to post on developer forums but did not want to just post useless posts to meet the quota. Has anyone had any luck getting VVM working with 4.3/sense 5.5? Maybe someone has a separate flashable zip that can be applied. I have searched and cannot find any source. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Not that I know. I have tried with other Roms on other phones and had the same problems. I finally just said f it and just started using Google voice

It seems like it worked on NuSense RC3 but camera was broken. Now in RC4 camera fixed and VVM broken. NOS 2.01 I can get to vvm to work but it reports media type not supported when attempting to play back message. So close yet so far away.

Working on a new build...
I recall dealing with this on the Thunderbolt and Dna as well and it shouldn't be too hard, except that I don't use it to be able to test.
May take one or two more shots at it to get it nailed down, hopefully not.

Thanks for the response. I have been trying to figure out how to get the problem posted to your thread. I have been flashing roms for years but apparently haven't been using xda. Thank you for your hard work on this Rom. It is awesome. If you need someone to beta your RCs I would be happy to. If you need me to try out the vvm tests I would be happy to as well. When I bought the One after running over my gnex, I thought my flashing days were over... So glad they are not. I thought I was a pure vanilla man, but I am suprised how much I like sense. Then add in 4.3 with sense 5.5 and it is awesome.
Thanks again for your hard work. Hopefully soon I will be able to post my findings directly to your thread .
I have a question

Did you ever come up with a fix for this? Im on the new viper rom that released the other day and miss some of the VZW features.
I remember this from my Droid Incredible days, it was a prop.build fix back then:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953746&highlight=vvm
Change ro.HorizontalVVM=true to false, and use the attached app
Not sure if this will work or not.
You have to re-boot, and may have to rename the original VVM client to like bak or whatever

Hi there.
I've been following the Android 5.0 porting movement at this site here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/opt...nt/port-android-l-preview-gee-t2818325/page80
People have been reporting some issues, but overall it seems like a relatively decent daily.
I tried it on my LGOG e971 (Rogers) and it was in fact pretty smooth and functional. However one issue was perplexing to me & I was unable to determine a resolution as of yet.
I am unable to stream data over cell network. I tried every possible APN permutation I could think of & found, and nothing.
Somebody on that forum mentioned it could be a kernel issue, but I honestly don't know enough at this point to try to make my own or adapt a current one. Anybody have any suggestions or can confirm or deny this issue on a Rogers e971?
Anyway, no rush as I'm using KITKAT as my current daily, but have Lollipop saved as a CWM backup for easy quick access.
Thanks for your time.
Have a great day!

Ill try that and let you know but could it be my apn settings because they look diffrent from the sock back up i have
I dont know why ur apns would be different? My apns are stock no edits.
I froze it but i still get connection drops ?any other ideas?
I attatched a link in my rom for a duplicate copy of my build prop... its a worth a shot to flash it and see if there's a build prop issue..
Have you updated your profile and prl? Could just be a sprint issue.. may want to try setting phone to cdma only and turn roaming off.. it could be your phone jumping from 1 network to another. .
im not sure if this is rom related is it everywhere you go or just one location your at you have issues?

Expecially if 4g is new in your area you may be seeing issues with towers and not the build.. i dont get to see 4g much unless im 50 miles from where i live and thats only 2x a week.. it could very well be your phone trying to find the best connection between the 2..
Just re read your question and it kinda makes sense that its more then likely sprint service causing your issue
*****found an answer..... Can you dirty flash 2.0 or is it a clean install?
Experiencing generalized lag after flashing rom
Thank you for putting this all together. Love the ROM so far, except that I am experiencing a good bit of lag. I do not use Wanam or the Xposed framework, and never have. The lag is not confined to one program e.g. Hangouts, but rather I am seeing it in the app drawer, homescreen, Messages app, and in other areas. I am using Apex launcher instead of TouchWhiz. Would that be an issue? Could this be a kernel problem? Should I be tweaking cpu settings with an available app like SetCPU? I appreciate your help.

Are you on 2.0?
Did you dirty flash the rom?
I would do a full reset data and system and re flash. .

It was a clean flash, but I had been screwing around with different ROMs and kernels that day. Would flashing this from something other than stock affect things even if I had done a full factory reset/3x wipe before flashing? I will try from the ground up again and see what results I get.
*edit*
Just wiped data/dalvik/cache 3 times then did a factory reset in TWRP, then flashed 2.0. Buttery smooth now. Awesome work. Thanks again!

i have the same problem bro , after i flashed from samfirmwre official rom of Spain ( also Germany ) my phone´s got lag , after a 10 15 minutes of playing @facebook or Playing clahs of clans , i need to restart ... i think is software problem ... We need to wait for the next update , or Android Lollipop 5.0
Same issues. I was on this ROM and it was great. I tried porting some ROMs and it never work. Clean flash back here and I had a lot of lag. Did a system restore back to stock without exposed and I still have lag. Something is messes up and the lag sucks. Now I am on stock with a crap load of lag. Did a factory wipe and same issues.
I am trying this now to see if it will fix the lag on stock.

Hey I've been lurking on xda for while now. I must give u props cuz this is the smoothest and most stable rom I've found for my note4. Great work, love the fact it works out the box with xposed. This rom is a major go in my book, haven't found any issues with it as of yet. Only been running for 24hrs tho. Plan on keeping until official tw lillipop hits. Thanks again for all u devs time and effort
