Sprint Sim unlock help - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm looking to switch from sprint to cricket and received the alleged unlock code from sprint.
When I insert a cricket Sim it doesn't ask for the code just says invalid Sim and call customer care.
Am I missing something or do I have to root and go that route to unlock the Sim?
Thanks for the help.

That won't help. There was a "hack" method to unlock the SIM with s-off. But it doesn't work on Lollipop, and never worked on Sprint.
Not sure if this is something locked out on the Sprint version. You might investigate online services that will unlock the SIM, which usually cost under $10. They usually will not charge, if they can't unlock your phone.

Unlocking Dash via TmobileCustSvc

I called Tmo (USA) and told them that I was travelling to Canada and wanted my SIM unlock code for my Dash. I gave them my IMEI and they emailed me a 8 digit code to unlock the phone. Only problem is that I need the "foreign" SIM to initiate the code entry on the phone according to their instructions (see below). I am wondering if there is another way to do this without the "foreign" SIM because I want to unlock it prior to travelling in fear that I dont want to break/brick my Dash while travelling.
Here is their email to me:
T-Mobile Sim Unlock Request
Sim Unlock Reference: XXXXXXX
IMEI: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Unlock Code: XXXXXXXX
Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. Below you will see the Instructions for unlocking your HTC device.
1. Insert the foreign SIM card
2. Power on the device and the display should read "Please input unlock code"
3. Enter the unlock code and the device should display "Phone is unlocked."
4. Allow the phone to scan the network (or manually click on the antenna icon to do this)
It is very important that the instructions and SIM unlock code are entered correctly as listed. If you receive an error message while performing the instructions do not make any further attempts to unlock the handset. Please be aware that if an excessive amount of incorrect attempts are made, the phone will be permanently locked. You will need to verify the IMEI by pressing *#06# and contact Customer Care for support.
I saw this file (DASHv2Unlock.zip) from here. Anyone know if the code I got from Tmo will work with the DASH2Unlock program?
Thanks!

Thanks, I try to go to a local Cingular retail store. MOst of my friends use Nextel or Sprint or Tmobile around here. Cingular has terrible coverage in Hawaii.
Sim
You shouldn't need a "foreign sim," but rather any sim that's not on your carrier, then the phone should give you the unlock code prompt. I always keep an old cingular sim around for this purpose.
^ Any SIM other than your carrier's SIM is a foreign one.
~Cheers~
Actually, to unlock the phones you do not even need a foreign sim. You can use your T-Mobile SIM. They just tell you that so you can make sure it's working

Thanks for the laugh
Yep, fairly easy. As soon a TMo emailed me my unlock code, I borrowed a coworker's cingular sim card and took all of 30 seconds total.

Could have taken 15 seconds if you didn't swap SIMs

How would you enter a code otherwise? When the Cingular sim was in it, it automatically prompted me for the unlock code.
Good question
im also curios as i dont have a foreign sim handy jsut been waiting for one to come my way to unlock.
When TMo unlocks??
When you have TMo unlock the phone for you is the SIM unlocked and the CID unlocked also? Or do I have to use the website everyone has mentioned to get both things unlocked?

First I would contact your cell phone provider, Rogers, and tell them you are leaving the country and would like to have your phones sim unlocked. If they are decent and you have been current on your payments they should give you the code. When you get the code insert the Vodafone sim and when it asks for sim unlock code enter in the code they give you, and then if everything works. BAM you will be sim unlocked. The bootloader will still be locked, that is something completely different then the sim lock.

He will unlock your bootloader and your sim at the same time for $24US. It's worth it. Rogers, if they even give you the code, will charge you like $50 AND make you wait 2-3 months.
Jinx13 will have it done in under 30 minutes if things go smoothly.

[Q] Unlock SIM for StraightTalk

I just purchased an S3 (AT&T version) and want to use it on StraightTalk but it needs to be unlocked inorder to use the StraightTalk SIM, I have seen the websites where I have to pay $XX.XX and they will unlock it with the IMEI #, but there MUST be a way to do this on my own, right??
If I root the phone, and install a custom ROM will that have any effect on the ability to unlock the SIM? or whats the process to do this on my own?? (Is it possible?)
thanks in advance
Search. There is a free method to unlock. Also, if you have an at&t straight talk sim, you don't need to unlock it.

Use your own compatible or unlocked GSM phone on America's best nationwide networks. Select a SIM or SIM bundle to get Unlimited* Data, Talk & Text. It's that easy.

Sprint HTC One M8 - with Sprint provided unlock code (6 digits)

I called and got my phone's unlock codes (domestic) however Sprint declined to provide how to unlock instructions. told me to go to my future carrier and give them the unlock code.
I called T-Mobile current provider and they told me... no Sprint can unlock and TMo, doesn't know how.
so I am stuck with legitimate Sprint unlock codes... and no idea how to use them.
Someone knows how this works here or it's better off just flash customs rom and unlock XDA way?
Thanks,
When you insert another carrier's SIM (in this case, T-Mob) it should ask for the code, then you just enter it.
Custom ROM isn't going to help you unlock the SIM, nor is there a working "hack" to do so without a code.
Thanks for your reply,
I've tried ATT, TMO sim and the phone does not ask for sim unlock code... it just says contact customer care.
or if someone knows how to get the phone to ask me for SIM/UICC unlock code... some hot keys to press, that can help too since I have the codes from Sprint.
**i am also reading about Sprint Sim unlock on One M8, so complicated!!!**
If you talking about the following mods, they are for unlocking the bands, which AFAIK is not the same as SIM (subsidy) unlock:

yeah, can't find a way to unlock sim to use w/ T-mo ATT. strange... I have the codes from Sprint and no one's done it? good thing I got HTC 10 factory unlocked this time no such problem later on

Unlocked HTC 10 that used to be on ATT, where do i put the unlock code?

AT&T has given me an unlock code to release the phone so i can use it on sprint. The instructions say that a prompt should appear when putting in the sim, but nothing has happened. I was wondering if there was a way to force the prompt so I can input the code.
I'm on ICE rom, could that be a reason why I'm not getting the prompt? Can I go to the AT&T store with the unlock code and have them sim unlock it?
thanks.

Are you sure the phone is locked to AT&T? You title says "Unlocked HTC 10....". Your device could already be unlocked. Also, which sim card are you inserting and expecting code prompt to appear?
This is how it is normally done:
Lets say your device is locked to AT&T at the moment. You have to put another carrier's sim card(T-Mobile for example), then the code prompt should appear on the screen asking for the code.
Att never carried this phone...so how could they give you an unlock code? None are simlocked to ATT.
The guy I originally bought the phone from purchased the phone from HTC.com, which he then activated on att. when I bought the phone from him and tried to activate it on sprint, sprint told me the phone was carrier locked to att and I would have to request for an unlock code.
my unlock release went through and they emailed me the code, but when I put in my sprint sim card that sprint sent to me, there is no prompt that appears where I can put the 8 digit unlock code.

yeah I didn't know they did simlock either but I guess when you use a phone on their network it does.
when I tried to activate on sprint they said I had to take care of the att lock first. I have the unlock code but no idea where to use it. do I need to do something through the dialer?
Put Sprint sim in the device boot it up... IF theres a lock on the sim slot, it should ask for an unlock code which is input through the dialer when prompted

If device was bought from htc.com, then it should be unlocked already. I believe the radio frequency in your phone may not be fully compatible with Sprint.
Just check HTC's website and you will see that they offer separate models for Verizon and Sprint. - http://www.htc.com/us/go/buy-htc-10/
For example I have a T-Mobile service, so I purchased an unlocked HTC 10 which is compatible with AT&T as well. If I would have another carrier, such as Verizon or Sprint, then I would choose accordingly.
