What kind of bloatware does the G4 have - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My brother got the G3 and its nice i was thinking of getting the G4 to replace my Nexus 5. but hes has bloat like McAfee which you cant uninstall. and there not unllock bootloader or rooting yet. I live in Canada so idk when the unlock tools well come out

Depends on the carrier you go with.
In the states they have a lot more bloatware than us.
For me on Rogers, I had little bloatware, just very few rogers apps which I was able to either delete or uninstall entirely.

Same here on Telus in Canada. Very little bloatware. Must be how you Americans are paying for the extra battery, etc.

Cool im with Rogers also.

Bell Canada's G4 comes with 4 of it'sit's Bell related apps which can be disabled if desired to do so.

All the LG proprietary apps and Google apps that you don't use are considered bloatwares.

Do you know of a "safe list" for the LG proprietary software that can be deleted with effect anything else on the G4?

Sure, i'll post a list of all the apps that are considered bloatwares. But, not today, as i'm stuck somewhere.

It is kind of a misleading title because this is the Captivate Glide forum and I expected it to be for our phone.

Yes, the update is pushed from service provider's server... Because adding BLOAT is the most important (for carrier), but last step in update... So OTA is pushed from AT&T servers...

I wonder if they pay for the Bloat or do bloat developers pay them to use their bloat hence why the Service providers install it. If it is the other way around, I guess the Service providers think it adds value to the user....Little do they know most of us hate it!

You go to Nitro HD? I go to GSIII I'll see if I can fix CM7 for us first. Apparently the init.rd scripts in the ardatdat kernel are made for stock and not cm7. Too lazy to dual boot linux though

Google Wallet

Hi, anyone knows why we have NFC and we don't have Google Wallet? Or this app only for annoying samsung ugly cheap plastic "masterpiece"?

No idea, but I can't get it installed either. I've tried sideloading this version: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/11307886/Wallet.apk (support for major credit cards) that was released on the main Android forum here at XDA but it says "Application Not Installed".
Anyone else have any luck with this?

I came across this thread earlier today. I don't know how valid it is but it looks like AT&T will be using Isis in place of Google Wallet.

Got it installed on my rooted, Canadian Rogers Xperia Ion but it won't run. (You must be rooted.)
You need to install Market Enabler and set it to T-Mobile USA.
Download the Google Wallet APK from here or here.

Yeah, I had read about ISIS. Its lack of a release date (and lack of Wallet support, of course) was what was steering me toward finding an alternative.

Hmmm, according to the PDF linked from this Site ( http://www.nfcworld.com/2012/08/29/317459/isis-nfc-phones-appear-on-mastercard-list/ ), the ion is not listed. S, P, and Sola are.
Still think the different phone providers should not be allowed to block other options. It seems like it creates an artificial monopoly.
I tried to change the name of the phone in build.prop (but I'm no developer; I don't think I did it right) to trick it into thinking I was using a nexus phone. It didn't work. Has anyone else given this a try?

Regarding Google Wallet now on the Xperia TL and 4.1.2
I have noticed an extra option under Settings > More / NFC - Wallet (operator wallet) is only an option when NFC is checked on but there does not seem to be any further menus or options surrounding NFC/Wallet.
Google Wallet is now visible and even downloadable in the Play Store for the Xperia TL on AT&T but when I tap to run it I get an error saying unsupported device or network. Pretty confusing when Google lets you download an app to an apparently non-"compatible" phone on an unsupported network. any thoughts on this? the only thing i can think of is Google is working on implementing Wallet for other Android phones so for now the app is available but won't work yet

You would be looking for an option under the Android System app info that showed the status of Carrier IQ. It would (if it is in this spot) give you the options to force stop it or completely disable it.

Nexus phones have never been good enough for me, however, I wouldn't waste my time on the half baked browsers. Google Chrome has everything I need and snycs instantly with all of my phones, tablets and laptops flawlessly.
To each there own. I personally don't need to call anyone names because I am not emotionally charged when I post.

Who am I name calling? The existence of Nexus fanboys are a real thing. Whenever geeks are involved, there will be fans and there will be fanboys. Leading up the launch of the G4, a point made about the G4 was that there would be less bloat and more Google which is why the stock LG browser no longer exists and why Chrome is the "stock" launcher.
Nexus fanboys are very vocal when it comes to putting down phones they have no intention of ever buying since it's not a Nexus anyway. You don't see them so much here since this is a phone specific forum, but elsewhere in general Android land, they are there.

I've no need to single out a group of people just because they don't meet my standards or because they act in such a way that makes me emotional.
I like to discuss technology and the caveats they present, without emotion or judgment, but rather with logic and an open mind.

I'm simply stating the obvious. And that's great that you love to discuss technology without emotion. Good for you. Nobody called you a fanboy. Nobody called anyone in this thread a fanboy. The question was raised why the stock browser was removed and I gave my opinion on the matter.
Had I said nothing, there would still be fanboys. And if you don't believe "fanboy" is a real thing then you clearly haven't been on the Internet long. Go to any gaming forum and your eyes will be open. On the Android side of things, look for any self proclaimed Samsung knight.
