Hello guys. i am Kia as you can see.I bought g3 beacuse i want to record some rom reviews and tutorials for it. I previously had lg g2 and i had no any issues and then i bought xperia z3 and i didnt like it much. After that i bought lg g3. Ye, awesome phone but i experience sometimes throttling (sorry if i misspelled) (cant use 100 percent of brightness etc. .). Also today i was watching some videos and multitasking (for about 30-45 mins) and then i downloaded antutu benchmark just to see what score i will have. Then i runned test and i got just 25k?! I was like wtf.... (temp was about 66 ,maybe a bit more, celsius, it wasnt bad) and i putted away phone and after 30 mins i runned test again, i got 40k (is that normal score for g3, im bored of searching....) and temp there was like my idle 57-60 (at 60% brightness). I just dont know was that some kind of error or that was some hardware throttling or what? (due to overheat or what?)
Should i worry about my temperatures? What are yours idle and full load temps?
Thanks for any answer
Hi Kia,
Yes youre right when the device gets too hot,it throttles to save the core components from further damage. Also dont worry about benchmarks too much. In the words of Chainfire, they arent that vital. What matters is th performance of the phone on day to day tasks.
Can you do me a favor? Install the app for specs called Hardware Info https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dama.hardwareinfo&hl=en
and post a screeenshot of the Display,Processor,Back Camera and Sensors.
Thanx

Thanks for your reply,
Guys, what are normal (idle) g3 temperatures? And what are full load, I think I should send my phone on warranty? I get 55-60 idle and 70 full load? (CPU temps)

Hey guys ! Today I traded my S5 for a G3 and I have some questions :
1. Which is the latest and which is the best firmware ? I am currently on V10H. I see that there are V10i and V10j firmwares, but I don't get a OTA. Should I manually flash them and are they newer and better ?
2.Is it normal for the phone to heat up so much. My G3 heats up just from listening to music and using facebook messenger on 3G. The first boot after updateing my phone it was hot like an oven. Barely touchable on the top side of the screen. (also the brightness could't go beyond 90%)
3. If I root my G3, do I loose my warranty ?
4. Can I do something after rooting to improve the battery life and lower down the heat ?
5. My G3 uses around 10-12% overnight (6-7 hours) Isn't that too much ? My S5 used around 2-3% overnight...
6. Also on Antutu v5 at exactly 27% I get High temperature warning and my phone reboots. Anyone else having this problem ?
Please guys !

1) I think I and J are kind of the same but others will know better, they are the latest firmware.
2) No but what you call heat and what others call heat might be different but it shouldn't get anything more than warm at most.
3) Yes but you can revert back easily to keep warranty. I used Stump Root.
4) Yes lots of things but I haven't tried any as I have very good battery. There are things you can do without rooting as well.
5) Yes that is way too much. Mine uses no more than 2% over 8 hours but I have a few of the Google things turned off.
6) Never done it but from what I've read others have had the same problem.
If you have an SD card in the phone remove it and see if the heat will stop.
It is a Saturday so give it some time for others to answer.

1) My D855 is on 10H at the moment with no OTAs available at the moment. Most of the OTAs so far have just been small bug fixes and such (the change log for J is exactly the same as H). Its not worth trying to manually flash them yourself. Sometimes the update is available by the LG PC Suite before the OTA, so maybe give that a go.
2) The G3 warming up isnt uncommon. I can usually feel mine warming up around the power button in usage similar to yours. I wouldn't worry too much about the phone being hot after just booting from an update, the phone has probably been running the CPU flat out during the update and boot process to finish everything. The limited brightness is an automatic thing put in place by LG to prevent overheating. (If it was limited to 90%, then I would have thought it is not getting that hot otherwise the brightness would be limited even more)
3) Probably. I haven't rooted mine, but I believe there is a root counter/status thing in the hidden service menu that LG may look if ever your phone is sent back by which they may deny repairs or charge you for them out of warranty. (But if it is a genuine hardware defect, they may be lenient. I sent my HTC One back for repairs for the purple tint issue on the camera with the bootloader still unlocked, but they didn't say anything)
4) Not sure about that (as I haven't rooted).
5) That usage seems about the same drain I have when leaving the phone while it is on cellular data. My G3 has superb standby battery life while it is on WiFi.
6) I think that is a common occurrence with the G3, the phone is rebooting as the phone is getting too hot.

Thanks a lot for the info guys !
When my phone reboots during antutu it is not even warm. I even tried doing the benchmark in the fridge and same thing happened. It just makes no sense.
Also 1 more question - Is there some kind of a list of apps that are safe to remove/dissable ?
my phone have several issues but this heating problem worries me the most..
when im not touching the phone (placed on the table with display on but on lock screen) it is 35C to 38C
when i take it in hand nd unlock and even if i do nothing it rises and reaches 42-45C
when i use apps like gmail, maps, or sms the temprature is around 45-48C
when i play small games it goes between 50-60C
but the most worrying part is when i play heavy games.. the temprature goes above 60C and stabilizes at 65C.. aont once in a while it reaches 68C but comes down sooner
when i run benchmarking apps. the temprature went 70C and even reached 72C twice... will the device can handle such temprtures?
i know most of the processors are made to handle not more than 70C.. so im doubting this heat might burn my phone internals..
is it like this for all snapdragon 615 phones? or will it b fixed if they update to lollipop which is best suited for 64 bit processors?
or should i return the phone ( i have 6 days ) coz its defective??
please give me a reasonable reply some1.. i tried all forums and no reply.. please help me... i dont wanna regret buying this phone in the mean time i dont wanna regret returning this phone either so kindly help me
Please check the battery stat, and see which one is using more, I think You have mediaserver issue, If mediaserver is the highest (above 30%)
then find a fix for it, It is a bug in kitkat

Hi Kartik00 ,
Did your issue got fixed? Heating problem got solved ?
It is not a problem!
It is actually OK. Most of the phones give battery temperature as CPU temperature as they do not have a heat sensor integrated with the CPU.
But for yureka it is different. I mean yureka is special one. It has a heat sensor integrated with CPU. CPU can heat up to 90°c that is normal. But when battery starts to heat up, there is a issue there. Our yureka is fine. :good:
Download CPUz it will give you a pure idea of this

yh thats right.. i realized it after asking around abt other ppl who owns 8core phones its not even a ISSUE.. also after cm12 update my phone doesnt heat much.. hot pluging isnt effective yet though but 2cores (from the performance cores not the power save ones) does goes to sleep when we set it to powersave mode
rollback the update to stock ROM (4.4)
Lollipop is awesome.BT the heating issue is still tr.The CPU governor s are not adjustable in lollipop. BT in kitkat we can adjust it.
In lollipop the CPU always at 950hz (min).so it heats more.

I guess its not just software issue but also a design flaw made by CoolPad. They cover the main processor chip and eMMC chip with aluminum cover. I know this cover is used to prevent dust to get in and static electricity, but it also cause heating problem. Moreover, they place the LCD on top of it. So if you want to get rid the heating problem, don't buy YU, but buy MI 4i instead. If you don't use the phone, the phone temperature will stay at 45-50 degree.
U r suggesting different phone as a solution? & that too atleast 4k costlier one
hello everyone
I'll be buying a dual-sim G4 either today or tomorrow. The issue is that I'll only be given 7 days checking and replacement warranty which is worrisome since the product price is quite high. So, I'll need all your inputs on how can I best check the product for any issues so I may return/exchange it within the short warranty period. Also, since I'll be leaving for a job outside my country within 2-3 weeks, I need to make sure everything is in working order as I'll be at a place where there would be no repair shops etc.
please, can someone kindly help me with this...
You cannot check for issues while installing any app i believe. Yes, you can install heavy games and play them, use The phone as much as you can to check about it.
Do remember to check volume buttons properly, camera and OIS working fine or not, any kind of lag report it here. If its common, you are good to go
Check the multitouch test using antutu benchmark.

Go to 277634#*# dialer mode and go to lcd test under svc menu.
Then go to device test> MT> then it will boot into mini os where you will get plenty of tests available to test g4.
-got the cellfone yesterday, two issues till now. battery seems to be draining very fast + the screen gets hot.
-antutu score is 62164
-have already taken pictures and videos from it - camera result seems ok, any idea how can I check it extensively? not too sure how to use the manual function :S
Can you please elaborate? Were you on 4G or 3G? How many hours phone was used. What all things you did (heavy games or light games? too much calls? GPS settings? Wifi and 3G/4G usage). Apart from it, how was the cell reception? Low cell network reception leads to heavy battery drain. Also, I have noticed heavy battery drain on dual SIM.

am not really sure how to check the phone extensively, only 2 days left of 7 days warranty...and I don't know what or how to check it since am also in too much pain because of root canal of my 7 teeth :crying:
take your money back and wait for g5 or other new generation phones.

Could someone upload or send me the thermal-engine.conf of the G4? We are trying to figure out why the Nexus 5X throttles so much more than the Moto X/MI4C/G4 in this thread.
The G4's thermal-engine.conf would really help with that. The file should be located in system/etc.

Well, even the G4 throttles quite badly. I got very annoyed and will always delete both the thermal config files after installing a new ROM.
But since you requested, I extracted them from my stock based rom's zip.

Thanks for the files. If you think the G4 throttles badly, then never ever touch a 5X. I wonder, though, would deleting the thermal files not cause the ROM to create new ones with default values? Completely removing any kind of thermal management seems like asking for a fried phone.

But the files never got restored back and the phone is actually working a lot better without them, maybe only for me? Mine has no temperature issue even without them and I'm staying in Malaysia, a country with high temperature throughout the whole year. But indeed, the average temperature of the phone will slightly increase, but not much difference though, for the sake of much better performance it's totally worth it. :cyclops:

Maybe the CPU is just using the default values if you delete those files, or maybe it is indeed temp limit free. I would at least run some careful tests to see if the limit is gone.
A dead phone is a lot slower than a throttled one.

At least the highest CPU temperature I have got on this phone without the thermal config is about 50℃ considered my previous Xperia Z could even reach 80℃+ and is still standing strong after two and a half years. However I rarely stress the phone that much so no worries actually.

It depends on what sensors the G4 and Xperia Z got the information from. Core CPU temperature is usually a lot higher than other temps. The Nexus 5X for instance has 16 different sensors. Well, at least it shows 15 different temps.
G4 starts throttling at like 52 or 53. I might try and make a few diffrent throttle mods of this one. Mine gets pretty warm sometimes. But i crank down on mine pretty good. I live in northeastern us. And a hot day usally is 75 maybe 80. I think mi e throttles big cores to 1.2ghrts at 53. Which lags like crap. Now i know g2 and g3 had thermal mitagtions u could shut off in one of the hidden menus. They stopped the throttling. But i aint seen it on g4.
With default values the 5X throttles the big cluster at 39°C and shuts it off at 41°C. So I think the G4 does a much better job, but at the expense of higher temps on the front and back.
Guys I need help with my G4, situation with gaming is kinda unbelievable... I'm running android 6.0, and most games can't hit over 20fps mark, practically gaming it's more of frustration than fun
Examples:
Dragons rise of berk - 15-16 fps
Real Racing 3 - 20-21 fps
Jurasic World - 18-19fps
FF lagacy - 25-26fps
And things gets more interesting, I have also G2 that makes on average 30% better fps on the same games. Did an Antutu test, G4 is way better than the same G2, huge difference in 3d test.
Checked the net for the issue and found on this site folks that have it but hadn't have in with the Lollipop before that. Please give me some pointers for a future actions, is it wise to try go back to 5.1 or maybe wait for the next update? Or anything at all, I'm open to all ideas as long as they don't cost me my warranty (these LGs are not the most durable devices out there...).
Thanks!
I swear its d3vice to d3vice. I use ps1 and other emulators all the time ive never really watched the frame rates but never noticed lag. I got a gear vr ive been doin a bunch of games on it and it runs killer.
But im on lolipop heavly debloated bare core system.
Stock rom is riddled with throttling while gaming, I did notice games like hearthstone and minecraft getting unplayable after 20 minutes or so, fix is the way of going custom kernel and disabling stock thermal settings, soc on our phone doesn't heat up as much as 810 anyways (also 1440p much more demanding than 1080p take that in to consideration as well)
Of course i tested the heating issue, when the phone is cold is just a bit better, but the same thing basically. For example it would be 1fps difference cold-hot. Also interestingly on Antutu my device scores more than the same G4 with the same soft. Just watching the 3d garden part the phone G4 kills G2, many times smother, but when you try real game is the other way around.
In the other threads people that can't play also score normal on benchmarks.
My phone came with 6.0 stock, so can anyone made the upgrade from Lollipop share their experience? Also if anyone with MM can actually play some on the games I mentioned above as an example?

wich kernel you use on G2? i wish there was a dorimanx for G4..
3.10.84 and the soft is V20d-EUR-XX. I'm definitely not a gamer, but can't accept having a G4 that performs like a 80$ lenovo neither... Honestly I was thinking of switching to Samsung, but 20min of reading and I was left with the feeling that this action would just gain me changing one problem with another ones. At lest here I have only that FPS issue...and besides it I like the phone and would strongly prefer not to switch with another brand.
The most irritating thing is that the phone has no signs of hardware problems. On the Gamebench site there's plenty of test done with the stock 5.1 rom - https://www.gamebench.net/en/node/117
As you can see the same games do on average 30fps, witch is as it should be.
Just found a thread discussing the same issue on Galaxy S6....thats it with the brand switching idea...
I don't believe I'll ever have a phone that has everything working in order...

The g3 was a good one
G2 was even better considering the time it first came up, it was also faster than G3. Anyways G4 is better than both, i'm pretty sure this is just a software issue.
Disabling LOGD needs root, right?

Rolled back to lollipop.....now Antutu scores are higher, but gaming is better just a bit. Do you other G4 owners play any games at all? Can't believe no one complains?
Is a hardware problem possible if the phone runs all benchmark and stress tests perfectly?

There is a setting that you can toggle in Settings > Battery & power saving, and then turn off Game optimizer. Don't know if it would help, but it's worth a shot.

Like i said i play ps1 and loads of games on mine. never notice any lag. I just modded my gear vr to work on my g4 and all the vr apps and games run surprisingly very well. Ive never been one to do benchmarks. Look and feel is more important than numbers to me. Ive seen phones get low benchmarks and game really well.
Im on lolipop by the way
Tested another thing, picked 2 games from the gamebench site that have been tested on g4... So Modern Combat 5 - 29fps Boom Beach - 58fps, both run super fluid. And the scores are exactly like in their test.
Having said that Real Racing continues to be a lot worse but they do 32fps on average. How is this possible? Look like the problem is concentrated on some games, not logical to me? How would it be possible every device to chose individually what games it likes??

When I play 3d scenes in Antutu they are 1080p, and G4 plays them a LOT smother than G2. So I guess that might solve the problem, 2k is absolutely unnecessary for gaming purposes on this small screen.
Also I'm not sure that the acctual intensity of the game is the main reason, thing looks more like game to game or optimizing issues.
