Unable to install ROM's or update firmware - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have searched and cannot seem to find anything to help. The problem I have is I keep getting the L-MR1 software update but I am unable to install it. I have turned the notification off. When I try to install with stock recovery it crashes about a third of the way through. I am on 5.1 GPE unrooted, though I rooted my phone from Vodafone to get it. I have now tried to revert back to sense, but when I try to install ViperRom through fastboot it constantly crashes. Will a factory reset resolve this?

Are you s-off?

Yes I am S-off

That is the GPE bootloader. So it looks like you fully converted to GPE. You need to convert back to Sense if you want to flash a Sense ROM, as the partitioning is different. The Sense ROM is failing to flash, since the system partition is too small to accept the Sense ROM.

Thanks but that is what I have been trying to do, and it doesn't work. I am also unable to update GPE to the latest H6 update using stock sense as it also keeps crashing

You can't just flash a ROM to convert back to Sense. There's a process to it. Guide is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2733523

I think I have seen the error as to why I couldn't flash back to sense so will try again. Is there any reason why it will not update to H6 using stock recovery? Also if I go back to sense can I be unrooted and is there a developers edition of sense for the M8? I thought there was but I cannot find it. Thanks.

I don't know. I saw another member was trying to help you in another thread, and asked you to look at the error log. Did you try it?
Hard to help if we don't know what error is causing the OTA failure.

Yes and yes.
Guide to convert to DE is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/guide-update-to-official-developer-t3002003
To get from GPE to DE (after changing to the right CID and MID), you might be able to flash 4.16.1540 firmware, than just RUU to DE Sense.

I tried to get the error log by pressing the volume up button after it crashes while updating but nothing happens.

Main reason for OTA failure are system partition has been altered. Root itself is ok. But nothing in system partition can be removed or added by root. You may need to restore a stock ROM to revert any system changes.
Or you may have the wrong stock recovery.
You might also delete the update file and have it download again, since its possible the file was corrupted during download.

Where will I find the downloaded update file? I have had a look using ES file explorer with no success

Should be in the Download folder of internal storage.

Have checked there and it isn't there

[Q] Stuck on Bootscreen, black boot loader, bricked?

Hey Guys,
my HTC One M8 ran on GPE 4.4.3, but today came an OTA update, which I wanted to install.
So I clicked install and my phone restarted to TWRP and the update wasn't installed.
Then I found this tutorial and tried it.
http: / / htc-one.wonderhowto.com/how-to/update-your-rooted-google-play-edition-htc-one-4-4-3-without-losing-any-data-0155404/
After flashing the OTA my boot loader menu turned black (image) and i wasn't able to install any Roms, also my phone sucks on boot screen.
Image: http: / / files.tobii5.de/assets/files/1/htc.png
Is it bricked?
I don't know what to do, please help me

It's certainly not bricked if you can access the boot loader.
Which recovery have you got installed now?

I think this wouldn't change anything, because i also can't restore a sense backup, i've made after rooting my phone.
But i wonder, why my boot loader menu changed its background to black. I guess, i have to refresh the stock boot loader, but i don't know how to do that.

Stuck in boot screen

I unlocked my bootloader, installed custom recovery and rooted my phone so that I can install custom ROMS.
However, when I install a custom rom phone does not boot. It will get stuck on the HTC logo screen. I tried Android Revolution, InsertCoin and SkyDragon roms with same result.
I also tried to flash boot.img via fastboot with no joy.
I have S-ON (I tried to turn S-off but that attempt failed as well)
Can somebody please help me before I bust this phone up?

I know this definitely happens with Android Revolution, but if you leave it alone for long enough, it will boot. I am running SkyDragon now, and it seems to work just fine. Even though I am S-Off'd, it should still work for you since you have an unlocked bootloader. Can you post a screenshot of your phone in bootloader mode?
It might be because of your firmware. Do you happen to be on Verizon?

You are right. I just found out that I was not waiting long enough for it to boot. However, everytime I restart the phone it takes almost 10 minutes for phone to boot but I shut it down and start, it would start.
Now, I dont cannot get root on SkyDragon. SuperSU says "The SU binary needs to be updated. Continue?" I would hit continue and hit "normal". I get "Installation Failed! Please reboot and try again" error message....Ugh this has been very frustrating...

I had the EXACT same thing happen. How I resolved the SuperSU problem: flash the SuperSU 1.94 zip in recovery. How I solved the slow as hell boot problem: go to Settings > Power and disable Fast Boot. Good luck!

I had the same problem.. what fixed it for me was getting on my stock ROM and doing HTC's OTA update to 4.4.3. This updates your firmware and make it compatible with newer firmware ROMs (such as Android Revolution) To do the OTa if you don't know how I recommend restoring a stock nandroid , flash the stock recovery and you should be ggod to go.

I checked to see if there is an OTA update before I flashed a custom ROM and there was none. Can I just flash a stock rom with an updated firmware? If so where can I find the latest firmware?

HK HTC10 Returning to stock rom

Hi there, I'm using Hong Kong version of htc10, i tried to root it but when i flashed supersu and xposed arm64 sdk23, it comes to stuck in the system ui interface showing that: 'System UI has stopped unexpectedly....etc.' Looping in that point. So i tried wipe all data in twrp mode and reboot again, still the same situation. Then I download a TW version of stock IMG which is 1.30.708.1(Original was 1.53.708.4) and flashed it in download mode, after that i rebooted it, everything is normal again. Fresh new welcome screen.
But there are some features that i can't use such as can't receive 4G+ signal, can't receive VoLTE, even could't use battery saving mode ....etc.
So I just want to know where can I find the STOCK IMG for my HK version CID HTC__622, which is 1.53.708.4 or so called RUU for it? Thanks.:crying::crying:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/stock-stock-collection-recovery-ruu-ota-t3359297/post67760253#post67760253
the working link for the download is on the next page.
this is definitely the HK rom as after a wipe the default language is HK Chinese.
only problem is OTA does not work and when trying to manually flash the OTA manually (using TWRP and stock recovery) the check on the OTA zip passes but the system check fails so it looks like system has been modified.

When you say failing, what do you mean? what is the error that you are getting on the phone?
i ask because i am having similar issues. am currently on lineage 7.1.1 and i found a single post out there that mentioned that when i flashed up to 7.1.1 that it triggered a fuse in the flash memory, that cannot be reversed. The error message i get seems to indicate that this is correct. fused2 > binary 1 - meaning that my handset is fused to 2 but the one i am flashing is only a 1.
i have a fully working phone on 7.1.1 but i want to revert to stock and am unable to do so

HTC 10 Oreo Stock ROM

Hello everyone,
It's been more than a day I unrooted and relocked my phone to update it to oreo. I want to use stock rom so I have tried every method i could find to have OTA updates. Had corrupted file error and usb error for manual update. I'm using 2.46.617.2. I need help to update my phone. I have tried to flash stock rom with twrp(3.2.1-4) it came out the file i have downloaded was not flashable. I will root my device again because i have the vibration sound issue. I like the Sense and I'm used to it. I don't have any data to lose. I'm open for custom rom recommendations. Can anyone help me with this. Thanks.

I'm not even sure if Bell released an Oreo update, have you tried checking for updates? If they haven't made a release, the only way to Oreo would be through a custom rom or S-off and conversion to another region.
