Unable to install stock RUU "FAILED (remote: 12 signature verify fail)" - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there, I've been trying to update my firmware all day. When using the RUU tool supplied by HTC, I get told I need to use the correct RUU for my device.
Code:
(bootloader) version-bootloader: 3.16.0.0000
(bootloader) version-baseband: 1.16.2133156.UA15G
(bootloader) product: m8_ul
(bootloader) cidnum: HTC__001
It is clear to see that I have the unlocked M8 so I don't understand why the m8_ul RUU seems to think otherwise.
As an alternative, I tried flashing the RUU zip file manually using the .401 file found here (lollipop version) but I get the following error:
Code:
sending 'zip' (1536838 KB)...
OKAY [ 48.278s]
writing 'zip'...
(bootloader) signature checking...
FAILED (remote: 12 signature verify fail)
finished. total time: 120.166s
Just a few extra notes:
I have CWM recovery installed.
I have tried this both with and without a locked bootloader (locked makes more progress).
MID = 0P6B10000
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I really want to get Android Revolution HD running on my new (off ebay) phone

Do you mean you go the RUU from HTC's website? One that is a Windows executable (.exe) format?
If yes to either of those, its not for your CID; as I don't believe your CID has an "official" exe format RUU. And that is why its failing (trying to run an RUU for wrong CID/MID).

There are a few different 4.16.401 firmware zips floating around.
If you are s-on, you can only run one that is properly signed by HTC. I'm guessing that is the reason why it is failing (trying to run an unsigned firmware with s-on).
What exactly are you trying to flash? I know you don't have enough posts on XDA to post a link. But describe as best you can, where you got the firmware.

Are you s-on or s-off? If s-on, you absolutely need to relock the bootloader to install RUU or firmware.

Hi there, thanks for the response. Yes the RUU executable states that I am using the wrong RUU tool when I definitely am not (i'm using a European unlocked M8).
I have also tried flashing the 4.16.401 firmware zip through fastboot and HBOOT
HBOOT loads and checks the zip before requesting a press of the power button to restart however, upon restart it is clear that no flashing has taken place as the HBOOT and RADIO versions are unchanged.
The firmware is the lollipop .401 firmware from here
I believe this may have something to do with it (fastboot oem lock)
Code:
(bootloader) [PGFS] partition_update_pgfs: pg1fs_security
(bootloader) Lock successfully...
(bootloader) deinit_lcd
(bootloader) mipi display off
(bootloader) mdp_clock_off
(bootloader) turn off fd8c2308 failed 1 times. Try again...
(bootloader) disable_mmss_clk done
(bootloader) pll1_disable done
(bootloader) TZ_HTC_SVC_DISABLE ret = 536739196 (0x1FFDFD7C)
(bootloader) [CRITICAL] SPMI write command failure: cmd_id = 0, error
(bootloader) = 4
(bootloader) [CRITICAL] SPMI write command failure: cmd_id = 0, error
(bootloader) = 4
(bootloader) [INFO] Rebooting device
FAILED (status read failed (No such device))
finished. total time: 6.126s
If I S-OFF my device, am I right in assuming that the bootloader will not check the zip signature and install regardless?

As I mentioned, I haven't seen an executable RUU for the Euro CIDs (4.16.401). Where did you get it from, and what is the exact filename?

You would be wrong to assume that. CID and MID checks are still enforced with s-off.
What s-off does do, is bypasses the need to relock the bootloader to flash an RUU or firmware.
s-off will also allow you to flash unsigned firmware, so it may help you getting the firmware flashed.

I can't even flash stock recovery files through fastboot when my bootloader is locked. I get this error:
Code:
FAILED (remote: signature verify fail).
This device clearly has some kind of authentication issues.
The only alternative I haven't tried is to somehow attain a stock (kitkat/lollipop?) m8 rom and do the OTA through that. Would that work? If so where would I find such a rom?

This is totally normal. You can't manually flash any recovery with the bootloader locked, stock or otherwise.

You can get the stock nandroid and stock recovery from the following collection: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
You will need the stock nandroid (and stock recovery) that corresponds with your firmware. Based on your hboot number (3.16) the nandroid you want is either 1.12.401 or 1.54.401. You may be able to determine the exact one needed by looking at the OS number listed on the bootloader screen, or main version on getvar all.
A nandroid is not a flashable ROM.zip, but rather a TWRP backup. Restore using the instructions provided in Post #3 of the collection thread under Questions & Answers. But in general, you will need to unlock the bootloader again, install TWRP (older version, since more recent versions won't work with your older hboot version) then restore the stock nandroid. Restore stock recovery. Boot into OS and check for updates in Settings. You will need to install a few updates to get up to the current 4.16.401 software and firmware.
After that, you can flash latest TWRP to the phone and install a custom ROM.

Check your firmware against your installed rom version - happens when firmware needs update
Htc
Forgot to mention that it wouldnt turn on since it came out the box.
Kernel - 3.4.0 elemental
Baseband - 1.19.21331147a1
Build numb - 3.28.401.9
Htc
Hboot - 3.18.0.0000
Radio- 1.19.21331147a1
Os - doesn't mention anything at all

Yeah, that baseband is wrong against that 3.28.401.9, update firmware, should be 1.22.223.....
So which firmware you suggest, any link to download a zip to flash?
What about the os that is empty?

OS is blank because you got custom recovery, probably TWRP - flash firmware from within fastboot -- http://xda7.androidrevolution.org/db_mirror/Firmware/HTC/HTC_One_M8/401/3.28.401.9.zip

I would really recommend you S-Off your device, if you want to flash firmware
otherwise:
1- flash signed firmware incrementally, signed firmware expects previous updates to already be there, so if you skip directly to the last, you'll end up stuck with a high version firmware, but missing previous updates!!!!!!
2- you need to relock your bootloader, for fastboot oem rebootRUU mode flashes to work
Thanks for the response.
i tryed to s-off with firewater but i think this service has stopped?or does it still work as a method?
Device is s-on with unlocked bootloader. I read that with s-on u cant flash kernels-radios-baseband. Is radio equal to baseband? a guy in earlier post said that to get my wifi working i have to update the firmware. Exactly he said that baseband is wrong against that 3.28.401.9, update firmware, should be 1.22.223.
So how do i get that firmware + how i flash it + in what state should the device be?
thats what im asking

hi, just a quick FYI, you need to quote (ie reply) or mention (for example @ nkk71 <- without the space) someone, for them to get notified ... otherwise it may go unnoticed.
anyway,
1- firewater is discontinued and in either case was not very suited for the M8 anyway, except for some of the very early models it would have failed. sunshine ($25) is the only known software solution for s-off
2- the response earlier about what you see in Settings->About (3.28.401.9) only refers to the version the ROM (not firmware) is based on
3- the firmware you get from a "fastboot getvar all" from version-main; if that's missing (a bug in some twrp versions), you can make an educated guess by looking at hboot version + radio + date in bootloader
4- radio is equal to baseband, but not equal to firmware.... firmware contains a lot more than just hboot and radio
5- with s-on, you can only flash signed firmwares (these are usually extracted from OTA.zips), and have to match your MID and CID... you also need to have bootloader relocked for RUU mode flash to work
^^ plus, since those are updates, they will only contain whatever was changed from the previous OTA update, that's why if you intend on staying s-on, you should flash those incrementally, and not skip a version
(for example, the "latest" signed firmware could just be an update to hboot or something, but missing all the previous radio, touchscreen, etc updates.... because and official update [by definition] implies all the previous updates were already installed)
hope that helps a bit

your hboot+baseband version would indicate you are either on 2.22.401.4 or .5 (minor difference)
you should flash in increasing order:
3.28.401.6.zip
3.28.401.7.zip
3.28.401.9.zip
from here: http://xda7.androidrevolution.org/db_mirror/Firmware/index.php?dir=HTC/HTC_One_M8/401/
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip 3.28.401.6.zip
fastboot flash zip 3.28.401.6.zip <- yes twice, make sure it says successful/finished
fastboot reboot-bootloader
once you are back in bootloader, make sure the OS- line has been updated to the version you flashed, and is not in red (if it is in red, that means the flash didnt complete properly)
then repeat the above commands for the 2 other firmwares
Note: the higher the firmware, the less chances of getting S-OFF, just to let you know

Brick?

Hi,
I have a big problem with my HTC one M8.
I was tring to back sense from GPE conversion, and now I do not know how to proceed. Maybe bricked my phone.
My situation is as follows:
Relocked. Adb can't find my device so I can not unlock again.
No recovery, no ROM installed. So, I can not flag USB debug. Can't proceed since relocked. Any suggestion?

You can't install custom recovery with a (re)locked bootloader.
With s-off, you shouldn't ever relock the bootloader, as its no longer a requirement to RUU once s-off. But that's neither here nor there at this point, just info for future reference.
Any response to: fastboot devices
Make sure the phone is in fastboot mode.
Try to run the GPE RUU with phone in fastboot mode, to get the phone back up and running at least. Assuming you are still on the GPE CID and MID.
How can I flash ruu gpe with boot loader relocked? Is it possible? It gives me error.

I think you've got it backwards. With s-on the bootloader actually needs to be relocked (or locked) in order to RUU.
With s-off, RUU will run whether the bootloader is unlocked, relocked, or locked.
In other words, the bootloader being relocked is not the problem.
What is the error message?
Did you change the CID/MID yet (what are they currently)? The CID and MID need to match the RUU.
Hi guys,
I have a problem with my one m8 at&t, unlocked, and i can only navigate in hboot in hboot & fastboot modes. no htc logo screens or sth like this.
when i try to go to recovery or do factory reset i get three android skaters on the screen for cca 0.2 sec and it returns to fastboot usb mode.
Its friends phone so i dont know what he had done to it, but i just want to make it work again, wiping data is not the problem.. can you tell me what should i do to get recovery( TWRP/ CWM) working, thats all i need for now because im going to s-off later. i tried to do something but it didnt work.
some things i have tried in that order:

finished. total time: 1.277s
3) 'booting' same stock recovery- what changed now are 3 android skaters for cca 0.2 sec when i try to enter recovery or start factory reset from bootloader, before it just went to fastboot usb mode.
C:\adb>fastboot boot recovery.img

downloading 'boot.img'...
OKAY [ 1.273s]

Can please anyone help me? Thanks in advance

I will try again later. If I am not wrong the error is about partition problem. It does not recognize the zip.

When you get a chance, you should list exactly (in detail, and in order) what you have done to the phone to get to this point.
I can't tell how far you go in the conversion (GPE>Sense) but it seems you at least got partway (if you indeed got a partition size error).
Also need to know current CID and MID.

when i try to go to recovery or do factory reset i get three android skaters on the screen for cca 0.2 sec and it returns to fastboot usb mode.
Its friends phone so i dont know what he had done to it, but i just want to make it work again, wiping data is not the problem.. can you tell me what should i do to get recovery( TWRP/ CWM) working, thats all i need for now because im going to s-off later. i tried to do something but it didnt work.

I would highly suggest not to post to another user's troubleshooting thread like this, as it doesn't look like the same problem at all (and in my experience rarely is, even when folks will post "I have the same issue"). You really should have just started your own thread, and would have been justified doing so IMO. Posting here just confuses matters for you, the OP and those trying to help.
But DON'T start another thread now (and add even more confusion). I'll ask the mods if they can move this post to its own thread.
ok, sorry

Thanks for reply.
I went now in fastoob mode and tried to flash the RUU GPE again.
The error is:
macbooks-MacBook-Proownloads macbook$ ./fastboot-mac flash RUU-HTC_One_M8_GPE_5.1-4.04.1700.4.zip
unknown partition 'RUU-HTC_One_M8_GPE_5.1-4.04.1700.4.zip'
error: cannot determine image filename for 'RUU-HTC_One_M8_GPE_5.1-4.04.1700.4.zip'
Just to clarify. I successfully when in GPE (with conversation). The problem was when going back to Sense. I do not know exactly what I did wrong.
My CID is 11111111
My MID is 0P6B10000
Really do not know how to proceed.
M
I unfortunately don't know jack about how to use fastboot and other actions on a Mac. I'm also not that familiar with running the RUU as a zip (I always do it on a PC with the RUU .exe).
But it looks like you just have the command syntax wrong. I think it should be:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip filename.zip
But it also look to me like nothing is actually "wrong" (aside from adb not working?). The phone not booting after relocking the bootloader is normal and intentional. You should just be able to run the desired Sense RUU, provided you have the right MID.
I am back to GPE!
Stupid me! I missed a "zip" in the fastboot command...
Thank you for support!
I will try again to go back to Sense.

Most important is the firmware flash... so partition layout etc is changed to sense like after that you can flash sense roms etc. (for example viper rom as in video)

Some folks have had to do this, some haven't. But yes, if the RUU fails and gives a image size error, flashing the Sense firmware manually (then RUU) is the right thing to do.
This part has never made sense to me, since the RUU flashes firmware anyway, by definition. All I can guess, is that it has to do with the sequence in which the firmware is flashed (versus other partitions) in the RUU.

So, even if the sense RUU is available, to go back to sense I need to flash the firmware before to flash the RUU. Right?

I just said in the post you quoted: some folks are fine just running the RUU (to convert from GPE to Sense); but when the RUU alone doesn't work, run the firmware manually first, then the RUU.
Running the firmware manually first (then RUU) has a higher chance of working, I'd say.

HTC m9 in bootloop after re-locking the bootloader

Hi,
Well, as the title said i'm stuck in bootloop after re-locking the bootloader.
Here is the history of what happened:
Unlocked the bootloader
flashed TWERP recovery and rooted.
I saw I can't install OTA updates so I unrooted the phone and flashed back to stock recovery. Still couldn't install OTA updates.
Unlocked the bootloader again and restored system partition back to original "untouched" status (from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-one-m9/general/please-read-rooting-using-twrp-t3069022). Only to realize i'm not on t-mobile, but the phone worked anyway .
Flashed back to stock recovery but still couldn't install the updates (If I remember correctly I got a massage that my software was tampered).
I'm S-on so I thought before trying the sunshine app I'll relock the bootloader. So I did that and that's it.
Here's were I'm now:
software status: modified
RELOCKED
S-ON
I can access stock recovery and download mode.
ADB devices doesn't recognize the phone (all drivers are ok and up to date and I've tried different cables and usb ports)
On the other hand, fasboot devices does work and recognize my phone.
So I come to you with help after going though tons of pages, guides and what not. I'm at it for a week now and no luck.
Help me XDA-Kanobi, you're my only hope
Thanks

What's your current firmware? Is the allow OEM unlock option (or how ever it was called in English) activated in the developer options (only important for firmware versions with a 2 or higher at the beginning)? If yes you can re-unlock with the unlock_token you got from HTCdev.

My current firmware is 5.0.something. To be honest I don't remember and can't check.
I've tired to re-unlock with the unlock_token you got from HTCdev but it didn't work. I've got the token with fastboot but only in download mode an then when I tried to unlock with the file they send you to the mail It gives an error that I can check later when I'm home.

It seems like you're talking about the android version not the firmware version since there is no 5.0.XXX.X firmware for the M9. For now it might be the best solution to wait until you're home.

Yes, that's correct. And with that firmware your problems can be solved without much hassle. Just download either the 1.32.401.15 or the 1.40.401.8 RUU which are both linked in my google sheet (link can be found in my signature). Follow the instructions and your phone should be usable again in no time. If you choose the 1.40.401.8 RUU there's one OTA less you need to install after you recovered your phone.
And a little advice for the future: If you want to install future OTAs then you don't need to relock your bootloader. If your phone isn't completely stock this will always result in a bootloop.

Of course. The only things you cannot do is downgrading or flashing RUUs that have a different SKU (=the three numbers behind the second dot in the firmware version). RUUs with the same version as your phone or higher versions are fine, though.

For your own safety you should delete your IMEI as it can be used for phone scam by others.
Why are you trying to flash one of Sneakyghosts' firmware packs? They can only be used with S-OFF and do not contain a rom. I've already explained earlier that you can find the needed RUUs and instructions in the google sheet in my signature.

my phone doesn't detect my htc headphones. It recognize other headphone and the HTC headphones works with other devices.
it looks like a software issue.

[SOLVED] Emergency Calls Only (SIM/Radio not working?) [AT&T HTC M8]

Hello, I've been learning how to root my phone and flashing new ROMS. I was having a pleasant time doing it when I made the mistake of possibly flashing the wrong version of GPE to my phone. After that, it seems my phone won't connect to 3G, LTE, or even basic phone service to make calls.
I've been looking for two days trying to find answers on the forum but I couldn't find a straightforward answer to my question. If anyone could help, I would greatly appreciate it. I think my next step is to use SunShine to S-OFF my phone and attempt to install stock firmware, but I'm a bit hesitant after doing something so negative to my phone.
My bootloader has the following information:
Code:
*** Software status: Modified ***
*** UNLOCKED ***
M8_UL_CA PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-3.19.0.0000

OS-
eMMC-boot 2048MB
Mar 4 2016, 18.56.55.0
^ Yes, OS is actually empty. I haven't seen any instances of this on the forums yet...
fastboot getvar all:
Code:
(bootloader) version: 0.5

Other steps I've taken:
- Tried SIM card in another phone, it was working fine
- Flash stock ROM and recovery using this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860. The flashing worked but I still can't connect to AT&T.
- A couple of other miscellaneous things around the forums that didn't really amount to much when I tried them
Again, any help would be greatly appreciated!
EDIT:
SOLVED
I encourage you to read the details to make sure the case matches yours, but TL;DR: no need for S-OFF, simply use lock the bootloader again using "fastboot oem lock" and install the stock RUU. If stock RUU fails make sure you have the correct version. Thanks so much to redpoint73 for their help!

You don't need s-off to do that, I don't know why folks keeping thinking that you do. Don't spend the money on sunshine yet (at least, not just to restore to stock).

I've seen this on the forums literally maybe 100 times or more. It means you used a very outdated (over a year old) version of TWRP, which has the known bug of wiping the main version info. What version TWRP did you use? And why?

My suggestion would be to relock the bootloader with fastboot command: fastboot oem lock
(don't worry, you can always unlock it again when the phone is working properly)
Then run the following RUU: http://dl3.htc.com.s3.amazonaws.com/application/RUU_M8_UL_L50_SENSE60_ATT_MR_Cingular_US_4.28.502.2_Radio_4.0.U605611%4050319A_40.45.C33065.00_F_release_446225_signed_2.exe
RUU is a Windows executable program. Just connect the phone to PC, boot into bootloader-fastboot mode, and run the RUU, and it will do the rest (restore all partitions to stock condition).

Thanks for the quick response. I used the GPe ROM in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708589
The file name was HTC_One_M8_GPe_Marshmallow-6.0_MRA58K.H13_AROMA-Installer.zip
The TWRP version I used was 3.0.2, the file was named Flashable_TWRP_3.0.2-0_M8.zip and I found it here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=49756
Before using 3.0.2 I was using an earlier 2.x.x version. I believe it was 2.7.0.2, because I used the tool in this thread to do my initial unlock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2699065
The stock TWRP backup/recovery version I used was 4.28.502.2, found on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860 I used TWRP 3.0.2 to perform the backup.
I actually already downloaded the RUU and attempted to use it, but it failed. I didn't perform a 'fastboot oem lock' before trying to use it, however, so I'll try that again when I get the chance and get back to you. Unfortunately at work I don't have a windows PC to run the executable, so I'll have to do it tonight when I get home in a couple of hours from now. Thanks again for taking time to give me advice!

That version looks fine for use with your phone (not the wrong version, as you mention in your top post). Not sure why you have the SIM issue. Did you do a default wipe (user data, Dalvik, and cache) in TWRP before flashing the ROM? This is recommended.
Also recommended to make a TWRP backup, before wiping and flashing any ROM.

As suspected, it was the 2.7 version TWRP that cause your version-main number to be erased in getvar and bootloader. This doesn't cause any particular issues, except making it harder to determine the firmware number. When you run the RUU, the version number will be restored.
Your main mistake was using the toolkit. As you see from the toolkit thread, it hasn't been updated since April 2014! So it contains a number of obsolete files, that will cause various issues. Its easy to do the steps manually (unlock bootloader, flash TWRP via fastboot, etc.) and use the current files; and I encourage folks to do so, as its a better learning experience.

When I tried to do fastboot oem lock I also got something strange. Here is the log posted below:
Code:

But afterwards my phone still read *** RELOCKED ***, so I continued on.
I tried the RUU and it failed (error code 155 - unknown) but I realized I was using a different one than the one you posted. I got mine off HTC's webpage, a file named RUU_M8_UL_M60_SENSE70_ATT_MR_Cingular_US_6.20.502.5. Downloading your file now and I'll give it another shot.
And it worked! Thank you so much for your help! I'll make some notes on the original post. Am I correct in thinking that I downloaded the wrong version for my stock RUU? How did you know which version to use?

Wrong RUU? Yes and no, its a bit complicated.
The RUU you tried is correct, in that its for the AT&T version M8 (right CID and MID). And in the past, running a newer RUU (then the firmware currently on the phone) would have been fine (as long as its intended for your M8 version's CID and MID). But HTC did something new (and a bit strange IMO) with all the Marshmallow RUUs; in that if you try to come from a lower version (LP or KK) you get Error 155. Of course, the description of Error 155 "unknown error" isn't very helpful, and has left lots of folks puzzled. But the solution to running the MM RUU is to first flash the MM firmware manually with fastboot command, then run the RUU again. The process is described in more detail here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66886759&postcount=23
Or the other option to update to MM, if you actually use AT&T as your provider, is to OTA update from LP to MM (which works fine).
Now how I guessed you were still on LP (and the corresponding RUU) is a bit complicated as well. As you know, your main version was blank, so you can't determine the firmware number that way. You can normally correlate the radio numbers with the firmware version (some RUUs actually include the radio number in the file name, otherwise you just have to know what radio numbers correspond to which OS version). But in your case, the baseband numbers actually didn't match any of the radio numbers known by me, or listed in the RUU file names. So frankly, it was an educated guess. I've assumed that many folks have not yet updated to MM firmware (by official OTA, or otherwise), so I picked the latest version LP RUU.
If my guess was wrong, it would have meant your device was already on MM firmware, and trying to run the LP RUU would similarly give you Error 155, or wrong version number error. In which case, I would have just told you to run the MM RUU (the 6.20.520 you first tried)!
Make sense? Of course not!

Not sound at all - Flashing something a long time ago

So, like I found in another threads my old phone, has not sound at all. I tried to fix it years ago, with not luck, but I wanna give it another chance since still it's a great phone.
This is my getvar all

I tried almost everything, it's currently S-ON, I tried a millon times going S-OFF with HTCDev steps, but nothing. It's UNLOCKED.
If anyone would give me a hand with this, would be awesome.. since my actual phone is broke, like my wallet. :crying:
Thanks! :fingers-crossed:

HTCDev is not a process to get s-off. It is a process to unlock the bootloader (but you say it's already UNLOCKED). Sunshine is the only valid method to s-off. You can try anything else a billion times, and it will never work.
You most likely also do not need s-off to get the phone working properly again.
I have a feeling that no sound is due to outdated firmware, possibly in conjunction with a custom ROM (ROM - firmware mismatch).
My suggestion, try to relock the bootloader (command: fastboot oem lock) then the following RUU:
http://gsm-firmware.com/index.php?a=downloads&b=file&id=14070
The RUU will wipe all personal data on the phone.

Hey thanks for replying!
I tried that, I keep getting this error
Code:
target reported max download size of 1826418688 bytes
sending 'zip' (1734001 KB)...
OKAY [ 49.344s]
writing 'zip'...
(bootloader) signature checking...
FAILED (remote: 12 signature verify fail)
finished. total time: 112.683s
I tried doing a reboot and reinstaling.. but still getting error 12 :/
Any clue?

"Signature verify fail" usually means the bootloader is unlocked. Did you relock the bootloader as I advised (mandatory in order to install the RUU)? Or if you did, can you verify is says RELOCKED near the top of the bootloader screen?

I believe you need to flash 6.13.631.7 firmware first before you can install the RUU
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60218734&postcount=5
Also you need htc_fastboot to fastboot flash RUU zip

Good point, and makes sense, as most of the US M8 variants require firmware to be flashed for Marshmallow RUU. Even though Rogers is Canadian, that version tends to follow the same rules as the US versions!

Sorry I took long time to reply.
I tried flashing the firmware, using htc_fasboot and fastboot. Both will give me this error.
Code:
c:\adb>htc_fastboot flash zip fw.zip
sending 'zip'... (53849 KB) OKAY
sending time = 2.408 secs
writing 'zip'... (bootloader) adopting the signature contained in this image...
(bootloader) signature checking...
FAILnot allowed
FAILED (remote: not allowed)
Execution time is 5(s)
And still, won't flash RUU.zip
----
I retried a few more times, and it worked! It flashed firmware and ruu
But now is stuck on HTC logo boot. Won't let install a rom over fastboot :/
Code:
sending 'zip'... (360264 KB) OKAY
sending time = 10.763 secs
writing 'zip'... FAILnot allowed
FAILED (remote: not allowed)
Execution time is 11(s)

Hard to tell exactly what you tried to do here, since you didn't include the actual command, name of the file you tried to flash, etc. Always include as much specific info as possible. "install a rom" is not sufficient info.
You tried flashing a custom ROM over fastboot? If so, that isn't the proper way to flash a custom ROM. You need custom recovery (TWRP) to do that. So that is the reason for "not allowed" (since it isn't).
But before doing so, we should look closer at the RUU (why it isn't booting) first. Since installing TWRP requires unlocking the bootloader, etc. Better to eliminate the RUU as a solution first, so we don't have to keep going back and forth unlocking/relocking bootloader.
Did the RUU finish successfully without any errors? If there were errors, what did it say specifically? If you don't know the answers to those questions, you can run the RUU again. Even cut/paste the output so we can look at it.
