Does anyone know if it is possible to disable the prompts that pop up when you turn on/off auto-syncing and mobile data via the notification shade toggles? You know, the ones that tell you mobile network charges may apply, or if you turn off data you won't have internet without wifi, turning sync on will copy changes to accounts blah blah, turning off sync will need to sync accounts manually blah blah....?
When I got the phone I thought they would go away eventually but nooooo. Very annoying. Thank you in advance for any help!
As far as I know. No you can't disable it

Hi All,
I don't know what does this icon mean (circled in red in the attachment).
It is not for background sync, since it is still there after I disable the sync.
Any suggestion?
Thanks a lot!

that's what comes up when email syncs for me
It means account data is syncing.

LOL, yeah. it's the sync icon. you may notice it on every single widget you have, where you can press and refresh the info. or, in most menus. it means refresh/sync
Or when it tells you what it does in the setup process
This icon is there forever / syncing all the time?
I think I disable most of the sync function in apps ...
Does it cause my battery running out so fast? ...

your talking about the constant sync bug from rooting. I heard about it but never encountered it, don't remember what fixes it besides a wipe. Go ask in the dev forum
I believe that canceling all sync operations and restarting them a few times seemed to fix it for those that encountered that bug (you can do this from Settings/Sync), plus possibly a reboot... Don't hold me to it tho!
hi,
i have 2.3.4 on my xperia arc. my question is, even i turned background updating off, device is still connecting to facebook at the background.
I made a test; i changed my facebook password from website; after a minute i turned the display of my mobile and see the warning of facebook password problem.
Or Does this have nothing to do with background updating?
Why does my device steadily try to connect to my accounts, if I set their settings to: dont sync + all manually.
I wil be glad to hear from you.
Rgrds
You can unadd accounts from your phone in your settings>accounts&sync area. If you remove facebook from there you can guarantee it will not try and sync. Otherwise, if you dont want to remove it, you should be able to just remove the sync in those settings first, to see if that solves your issue.
i dont want to remove accounts because i am using them manually.
autosync and background updating is already off.
no way to stop the background connection to these services?

This is just a guess, but you could probably install a firewall or an app killer to stop the service from running? Not Facebook, but the process that does the background update? I think you would need root for either one of those to work, but they might work.
Realistically, you should easily be able to stop the service by the ways you have done it. So it may be a software issue, one that might be fixed with a hard reset? But you would lose data that way.
so do you know whether manually/advanced setting up the access of the applications in android?
like: OK/NO or ASK ME whenever facebook wants to connect to Internet.
Just check the options of each app. In the facebook app you can choose how often it syncs, just check "never", which is the same as "manually"
Looking for a decent email app that I can hear or feel (vibrate) when I get a new email.
I've tried K9 but I can only hear that when on Wi-fi for some reason, does anyone else have any other recommendations ? I have a Gmail account.
Thanks
Any reason not to try the stock GMail app?

Should have said I've tried that as well but notifications aren't coming through on it when I'm not connected to Wi-fi :-(
Have you set your phone to only sync when connected to wi-fi by any chance?
Thought there was an option for that on the initial setup. Could be wrong :/

Good thought ! Just downloaded Touchdown though & turned off Wi-fi, seems to work with this ok, although would prefer more vibration notification !
Gmail is simply the best, once I get a email within seconds I get an alert.
I'm having the issue in my Gallery of any network connected computer showing up in my Gallery. This becomes a real issue when you have 200+ computers on the same network like at my work on secure WiFi.
I can't seem to find information about disabling this feature? Anyone know?

These settings are located under accounts and sync.
Click on the account and it will give you a list of things that can be synced. Just uncheck the pictures sync from there.

Anyone have any luck figuring this out yet?
Having one minor issue with my new GS3. My phone seems to be syncing properly, on WiFi and mobile data, but the icon is greyed out like it usually is if you can't connect to Google services. Any suggestions as to what could be causing this or some troubleshooting I could try? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the suggestion. I went to Accounts and Sync, Google, unchecked everything, rebooted. I then checked Calendar, Chrome, Contacts, Gmail, Play Music. I rebooted again. I am still receiving e-mail and everything fine, but the icon is still greyed out.
I have also tried a factory data reset, and have not been able to get the icon to colorize properly at all. I'm assuming it's an issue with my sync settings, but even if I uncheck all options except Gmail the icon remains grey with e-mails coming in fine.
wifi and mobile data icons are gray by default. they aren't supposed to turn green like previous generation galaxys used to. your phone is completely normal.
