ROOT NOT NEEDED.
Amazon Fire Phone uses the Swype app for gesture keyboard entry. However, the Swype menu is hidden from the user. To invoke the Swype menu that offers a few more options than the Amazon's default keyboard menu, make sure your PC can communicate with your phone through ADB (basically, settings -> Device -> Get info about your Fire -> Tap a few times on Software version until Developer Options emerges, then go in there and check USB Debugging). Connect your phone to the PC and open a command terminal on the PC in your ADB directory, and type:
adb shell am start com.nuance.swype.input/com.nuance.swype.input.settings.Settings
A menu opens on the phone. Now go to Settings, scroll down to the end, and check Enable handwriting. Next time you start your keyboard you will find a pen sign added to it.
You can poke around there to find more fun stuff.

Hello.
Having some questions:
1) Can't manage .lnk files in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs - Access denied. How to fix this?
2) Is there any option to make the middle column in start menu on the same horizontal line with the first and last?
3) Is there any option to rearrange the items in the start menu by the finger?
4) Is there any option to show transferring Internet traffic while gprs/edge connection is active?
5) Is there any option to select which connection to use while the phone needs access to the Internet?
6) Is there any option to make thumb items (after the clock (manila)) to show as a list?
7) Is there any option to make pushing the right soft key (with home icon) to minimize the running program, not to close it?
8) Referring to (7), any task bar to manage minimized programs with minimum clicks?
9) None of mobile registry editors can edit values - Access denied. What should I do?
Thanks in advance for answers.
1) Have you tried using ReStart?
2) I could only find this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=502051
3) You can click and hold to move to the top/bottom. Once again, try ReStart.
4) Not sure
5) Start > Settings > Connections > Connections all settings located there.
6) I'm not sure what you are talking about, but Max Manila and Cookies Home Tab give you plenty of customization.
7) Start > Settings > System > Task Manager > "Buttons" tab.
8) You can link the long hold of the endkey, send key, etc to open up task manager. Start > settings > personal > buttons.
9) What software have you tried? PHM reg edit is a popular one.
1) This one showthread.php?t=481379 ?
2) Yes, thanks!
3) ReStart haven't tried yet
4) -
5) Yes, I know about this menu, but I need something like in symbian phones - each time any app wants connect to the Internet, pops up new window with available connections - wi-fi spots, dial up profiles, etc...
6)
7) No "Task Manager" in System (P.S. Still don't know why two different links to settings have the same name.).
8) Start > settings > personal > buttons - no such option in personal present...
9) This program runs directly on PPC, any programs which works via activesync reports Access Denied..
Max Manila 2.5 - v3.0 (beta).cab - installed on phone. May be I've missed something?
1 & 3) Yes that one
4) http://spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/wirelessmonitor/
5) I haven't seen anything like this.
7) Start > System is not the same as Start > settings > System. Either way, you can get to your task manager by clicking the wrench button on the drop down task manager. then click the buttons tab on the bottom and define your settings.
8) I think advanced config 3.3 can do this as well (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=418151). HERE is different style keyboard remapper to remap all keys (including home and back).
9) Never tried to run a Reg Edit through active sync connection. I just use PHM RegEdit or SKTools Registry Editor (SK Tools only shows 6 options unless you pay though). Both can edit and add values, keys, dwords, etc.
Still can't find any wrench button in taskmanager. Are you talking about original taskman, which ships with the WM 6.5?
---------------------------
Installed Touch X Taskmanager.cab -adds the missing taskmanager(top right corner) - now it is showing.
Back to connection monitoring...
I can't believe, that there is no such tool:
For example, I use Opera.
There are two Internet gates available for use - 3G and Wi-fi.
Opera starts....and I don't know which gate is being used...
How is on standard cell phones or symbian based smart phones:
when an application wants access Internet, a small window with available gates appears.. and you choose which one to use.
I've checked spb's tool, but it doesn't provide the feature described above...
P.S. Is there any program to prevent unlocking the phone if qwerty keyboard slides?
Hi,
I use SwiftKey ($) as my standard keyboard on the S3 since the built in keyboard mostly stinks. But the one problem is the input method reverts to the Samsung keyboard when the device reboots. I searched around & couldn't find exactly what I was after, so thought I'd post my solution here to pay it forward.
Requirements:
Rooted phone (using SuperSU free)
Tasker ($)
Secure Settings (free)
Busybox (free)
Process:
0. before starting, install Secure Settings, go to system+ tab, click to enable. It will help you get busybox if not installed. Once installed, again go to system+ tab and get it Enabled.
1. create a tasker "Event" profile
2. Event type is System>Device Boot. There are no options here, tap to go back
3. New task, give it a name ("Change Input Method" is good)
4. + to create an action, then Task>Wait. I put 40 seconds here. This is the delay after reboot before tasker goes & changes the method. It takes a while for my phone to be ready to roll after a reboot. YMMV. Tap top left to go back.
5. Now + to add another action and select plugin
6. Secure Settings, pencil to modify configuration
7. System+ Actions>Input Method, tap to select the input method (Swiftkey for me but this could be anything you want).
8. Click the save icon.
That's it. Try rebooting and see if the input method is changed to Swiftkey after the reboot. Works for me! Enjoy!
So in another thread it gives you the apk files needed to get the ouya launcher. I've gotten into the ouya store, but any game I try to download and install, complains that I need to enable "Unknown sources". My box is rooted which I thought automatically emulates "Unknown sources". I've seen the guy in the video run Bombsquad, and he mentions to "Enable Unknown sources". Anyone has this working, what needs to be done to get games to install and play on Ouya.

Need to go into Settings (from Original AFTV launcher) and System, then Developers Option and turn on Install from Unknown Sources.
If you have an earlier version of AFTV, then you need to do the SQLite method, do a search for it.

I had this same problem today...I coudlen't get the ADB commands to work...But I found out it's done via SQLITE editing ...so I did another solution
*buy* (or find) SQLIte Editor...(or an app that can edit SQL database files) and sideload it.
Download LanMote Lite from the play store(you need mouse support) and Sideload it. Once done RUN LanMote Lite and start the server (Free version is limited to 30 minutes so act quickly) On your HTML 5 device (preferrably a smartphone or tablet) [PC works but mouse is slow and wonky] connect to the same wifi as the FTV (if you didnt do it already) and open your web browser and put in the address LANMOTE will show on the FTV (example http://xx.xx.xx:9999) also enable different cursor.
Go to FTV home and go to settings>>APPLICATIONS >> your SQLITE editing program.
(in SQLITE Editor) Allow SU permisions and use your amazon remote (it works for simple navigation for now) to go to FILES TAB and go to
DATA>>>DATA>>>com.android.providers.settings >>SETTINGS.DB
go to the GLOBAL folder. You should see a list with different settings (BE CAREFUL)
(now this is where you need a mouse)
on your HTML 5 device (smartphone) go the MOUSE Tab and use the mouse pad to mouse near the entry that says INSTALL_NON_MARKET_APPS you will notice that default for this option is 0 (which means off/ disabled) Mouse over the 0 and tap the "click" button on your HTML device. you will notice the entire row becomes gray.
Use your Amazon Remote and click EDIT RECORD. cursor down to the 0 and change it to a 1
use your remote and scroll below it should give a CANCEL and SAVE button. Click save with the remote.
go back to home and enjoy sideloading unknown sources.

I have discovered a way to disable and replace Alexa with the Google Assistant through what you could call a 'privilege escalation.' I don't know anything about the Fire Phone so I don't know if you can hook it up to a PC and run ADB commands to it. Can you even download Google apps (sorry if this sounds stupid)?
Anyways, I need some testers to see how widespread this is. In android there is a permission set called WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS. Basically you can create an app with that said permission in it's manifest. Doing so allows the app to be escalated to a 'root user' in order to edit, remove and or manipulate a set of settings Android called Settings.Secure. In this set of settings are three tiers: System, Secure and Global. The app, or anyone with access to ADB, can run a command to add, remove or change the values of some of these settings.
An app currently exists and is available on the Play Store, that edits these settings; Settings Database Editor. I need you to do the following steps for me please and thank you:
1. Download, install the app, but don't edit anything yet.
2. Hook the device up to your PC and open an ADB window.
3. Type and hit enter when done:
Code:
adb shell pm grant by4a.setedit22 android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
4. Go back to the Settings Database Editor app and tap on the Secure tab.
4. Locate the following three lines, if they exist:
Code:
"alexa_enabled"
"assistant"
"voice_interaction_service"
"voice_recognition_service"
5. Go back to the ADB window. Type each of the commands below, hitting enter after each one. You won't see any reply or messages if the commands are successful:
Code:
adb shell settings put secure assistant com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox/com.google.android.voiceinteraction.GsaVoiceInteractionService
adb shell settings put secure voice_interaction_service com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox/com.google.android.voiceinteraction.GsaVoiceInteractionService
adb shell settings put secure voice_recognition_service com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox/com.google.android.voicesearch.serviceapi.GoogleRecognitionService
adb shell settings put secure alexa_enabled 0
If the last command doesn't work, go to the Settings Database Editor app and tap on secure tab. Locate the alexa_enabled setting and tap it. change the 1 to a 0 and save the setting.
6. Open the Google App and go to settings > voice > Configure 'Ok Google" or your Assistant.
The more who confirm this, the better
How can I disable double tap of home button who activates the "voice input", who is no longer avaible as Amazon decided... THANKS THEM

Hi DragonFire1024,
Thanks for this very interesting post I was just wondering by to see if anyone had unlocked the bootloader
Problem with the fire phone is probably 98% of users here use one of @ggow custom ROM's LineageOS 11 or the AOSP based SlimKat and Nexus Rom. Those running the Stock ROM are likely not interested in development hence why no reply's.
To be honest I never even gave the Fire OS a chance before rooting and switching to the Nexus ROM. I am not sure our fire OS has Alexa :silly: or at least as we know it today yes you heard correct a Premium Amazon Device and they see fit not push it out to Amazon device owners. In fact they just went one better and removed the voice service altogether. https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-phone/general/amazon-voice-services-fire-phone-t3681235 Pretty amazoning :laugh
I was kinda hoping it was to make way for Alexa and a Massive OS Update but I guess thats just wishful thinking.
Help me out guys... TCL Android TV (55 P8S). Every time a button is pressed on the remote it utters a confirmation noise. Infuriating. I can't seem to find any menu to change button-press noise confirmation off. Any thoughts? It's like listening to a teenager texting in the mid 2000s lol.
On p8m it's in sound options or system settings (don't remember exactly). Not the android settings of course.
Hope you found your answer.
If not :
Go Settings > Sound > Advanced Settings > Sound Feedback > Off
I have a TCL P8M and this worked for me. In case yours is slightly different, go ahead and fiddle around till you find 'sound feedback' which is usually in Sound settings.
This can be fixed with ADB.
1. Enable ADB debugging on device
2. install ADB on your computer.
3. Start a shell (cmd for example if Windows) on computer, if ADB is not in your $PATH variable - navigate to folder where it's installed
4. Find the device IP of your Android TV
5. Connect to the TV using ADB from your computer:
NB! Replace the all of the X characters with the IP of your TV, e.g: 192.168.0.2:5555
Code:
adb connect x.x.x.x:5555
6. On the TV, allow ADB device
7. Run the following command in your shell on the computer:
Code:
adb shell settings put system SOUND_EFFECTS_ENABLED 0
I dont have the setting on my TV and the adb command dosent fix the problem.
Help?
please try:
adb shell settings put system sound_effects_enabled 0
this fixed the issue for me. It had to be small letters in my case.
There is also this apk if anyone in the future doesn't want to use adb
