erratic battery fixed by flashing stock kitkat - Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, 10.1, 8.4 Q&A, Help & Trouble

Galaxy tab pro 8.4 here
My battery was on Crack with any aosp lollipop rom (cm12.1, temasec, some others can't remember). It would drop precipitously from 80 to 30, then quickly down to zero. After a reboot it would be at 20 percent and drop quickly again to 0 and shut off. Yes I always factory reset between flashes.
Anyhow, I flashed back to stock because I couldn't take it anymore and lo and behold it's completely fixed
Any idea why? I desperately hate TouchWiz.

Hi there!
Hmm, my tablet has the same issue since I put CM12 on it a while ago. I immediately flashed back to stock rom, but even now my tablet has the same issue..
Really thinking about selling it on eBay or something to buy a tablet from a different brand.
Did you flash the first (release) stock rom or just the rom with the latest updates?
Thanks!

Random reboots come with the territory my friend. if you can't live with them, just use the stock ROM.

when i first buy the phone used on ebay it came with stock ICS and it happens as well i think i had a bad unit thanks anyways
I just had my device sent in and they completely replaced everything on the inside, not sure why they didn't just give me a new unit.. But anyways. It's been a few weeks and there were no restarts got the first week but then started again slowly, and now they happen frequently again...

That's almost certainly the case. I have a bad unit myself and hope to get it replaced soon. LG's QC has a bad reputation with this model.

Is that a fact that they changed the parts in there? I sent mine not too long ago and it was ok for 2 weeks then reboots were constant (2-4x a day) after that. I figured they just did a factory reset.

Go back to GB and there will be no random reboots guaranteed.
Just for fun, try the following.
1. Power off your phone.
2. Remove the Battery.
3. Remove the SD Card.
4. Leave it alone for at least 10 minutes.
5. Put everything back together and see if that made any difference.

how i get back to GB?????? the only way i see to do this was when i unbrick my phone but that GB IS REALLY WEIRD
Yes, they specifically told me what was replaced.. I don't have the sheet with me right now to list it, but it's basically everything on the inside.

HoNo has a GB rom that you can flash. If you find GB weird then stick with ICS and the reboots.

thanks in advance
Give it a try!
I had random reboots on almost all Roms except when I was on my Stock GB (V10f), ICS leak (v18f) and stock ICS (v20C) before installing any Custom Roms... The best Custom ROM I used was Liquid Nitro with Wind Kernel.. the mobile was stable, battery life was a lot better..
Currently I am on CM10.1 nightly with Wind kernel 1.0.. I am getting almost 36 hours on regular usage and no Random reboots...
All the best..

Wait, what? Are you saying you are getting 36hrs of battery life? Stock battery? I can believable. I'm lucky if I get 16hrs on HoNo CM9.
Also, to keep on topic, I think the OP might have a hardware issue and if so no ROM will truly fix it; some might do better at masking it though. FWIW I got probably one reboot every other day on CM10, but I get maybe one a week on HoNO CM9 and they seem to only occur when the battery is low.
i got the odd random reboot on stock GB.
on stock ICS i don't remember getting much, not sure.
i put CWM on the phone, bricked it, unbricked it
haven't had a random reboot since, been 2 weeks now, the roms i've used are cm10 (which had great performance, the odd flicker on the screen entering standby mode, poor battery life, didn't support MHL) but didn't get any reboots. (ran that for about 5 days)
i then switched to mattman86's liquidnitroV6 which is linked in my sig, i like it better, its stock isc bloatware removed wind3 kernel added supports mhl, good battery life, good performance, no flickers) only problem i have with this rom is that is that it has stock bluetooth stack, and doesn't support alot of bluetooth outside of headsets etc (cm10 has full bluetooth stack).
you may give Quattrimus a try. tdmcode fixed many bugs causing reboot or bsod with stock CM10.
Hi everyone
After install almost every ROM the only one that doesnt had asingle rebbot is GLORYROM it is truely th Glory for me.
I dont know what i did but i have 45 hours without a reboot.
This is the cronologic order for what i did
1, i install Glory Rom, coming from HONOS Full throtle and i get a reboot 15 hours later
2. i search A tread about flashing Basebands by HONOS in the thread it says that it came with the baseband and firmware (i dont know about that stuff) i just wonder What would happen if i change it?
3. i install v10j baseband and i get a reboot 27 hours later
4. Them i Install v10f and untill know i have no more reboots. i already had almost 46 hours without a single reboot, im really happy i hope everythingg keep working as it is.
The Glory Rom it fast!!! Lag free, stable, and reboot free so long!
The Battery life isnt the best compare with CM10.1 nigthly but i manage get 22 hours without charging and i get 5% left and that really good for me so thanks to all of you for respond and i hope not get another ramdon reboot.
And if somebody explain to me the miracle come on and be my guess jejejeeeje!

For those with battery problems, here's the FIX.

So, i like many others took the OTA 4.3 update.
And my battery life went all to s***!
So much so, i came to the point that i just wanted to revert to 4.1.2 regardless whether it had trim support or not.
I rooted, installed Philz recovery and Smoothest Rom (i thought what the heck, let me try another MK4 Rom before i go back to MC2)
WIth OTA 4.3 unrooted, i used to get a battry drain of 18% overnight with the device not being used.
After rooting and currently on smoothest rom, i had only a battery drain of 7% overnight!!
I am at 15 hours right now with light use and still have 70% battery charge. And this is with wifi ON, power save set to OFF, Screen set to adapt, GPS ON, Google now activated. This is how it used to be on 4.1.2.
There are those that said one or many of the servoces i mentioned above could have been causing the battery drain. Well. with the new KNOX free Rom, life is back to what it used to be,
OTA 4.3 ruined it. The fix? use another KNOX free Rom. Samsung or Sprint or both dropped the ball on this update. And i for one am gald to be rid of it.
Quick question? - Is there a debloated, light, rooted stock-ish MK4. You know, something with the same feel and functions except without the bloatware and KNOX?
My sincere thanks to those here with the knowledge that have put together these custom Roms, ya'll are awesome!
regards,
asmd.

[Q] I'm at my wits end with my phone's battery life

I've had my Galaxy Note II for just over a year and a half. I have loved every minute of it. It's my favorite phone that I've ever had by far.
A few months ago I go an OTA update from T-Mobile to Android 4.3. Since then, my battery life has been so horrible. My phone doesn't last more than 5 hours. I have tried every solution online that I can find. Even running in airplane mode only extends my battery life for a few extra hours. I unplugged my phone at 100% this morning at about 7am. It's only nearing 11am and my phone is down to almost 50%. I only turn on WiFi when I'm using it, I have GPS turned off. I turned off Google Now and I'm running Greenify. This all has managed to add, maybe an hour tops to my battery life when before the update a 100% charge at 4am would last easily until Midnight with moderate use.
What are my options? I'm attaching a screenshot of Wakelock detector if that helps. I haven't had any interest in rooting my phone and running a different ROM but if that's my only choice, I've done it with other phones. Would anyone be able to recommend a good ROM that's similar to stock Android and won't completely wreck my battery life?
so, I can't attach my screen shot because this is a new account. But for a rundown:

Ever thought about resetting/wiping your Phone?
Or re-flash the 4.3 Firmware with Odin and then wipe your Phone and everything should be ok.

Sorry, I forgot to mention I have done a reset twice. I will look into trying to reflash 4.3 with Odin, thank you.

if you are willing to reflash 4.3....why not go the extra mile, and upgrade to 4.4.....kitkat kernel has sorted out ALL battery life issues i had prior to updating....for example on custom 4.3 kernel, with moderate use...i got almost 30+ hrs.....now...using stock 4.4.2, same usage......over 48 hrs....
note, i upgraded using the nordic release...the first kitkat ever to pop up on sammy's website

Is it possible to use that release with T-Mobile's SGH-T889?
Well I just had a look on Sammobiles website and 4.4.2 still isn't official for this device so that means, 4.3 is still the lastest.
BTW. Android 4.3 has brilliant battery life, recently I got 7h of screen time which is awesome
nope

im afraid not, you might have to use a custom rom on your model in order to get 4.4......but if you wish to remain stock, i guess sammy will provide you with the latest

Thanks for the info! I guess I'll be looking into reflashing 4.3 for now. The HD custom rom looks awfully appealing, though...
it's worth it

4.3 custom scene is filled with awesome roms dude, if you want the same bootloader, or stuff ......i recomend any touchwiz based ones you might find....(if you still want the s-pen), some tweaked out kernel for extreme battery life and you're set for another year.....or until the N4 drops onto the stage :highfive:
or go 4.4.4 aosp...
That's y I stay away from tmobile and orange.

[Q] my note 2014 came with kitkat? is there a way to downgrade?

I just bought a note 10.1 2014 edition, and i was reading all about kitkat and its issues, so i was wondering. After all this time is jelly bean still better for this note?
Mine came with kitkat 4.4.2, and it had a 102 mb update, wich i applied, battery usage said 2.8 hours left or something when fully charged and unplugged. I deactivated most of the fancy stuff i dont need atm, but isnt 2.8 hours a little bit low?
I've read a ton of posts about kit kat draining battery, having some sort of sd card problems and other things. Is there a way to downgrade? does it have to be rooted for that? and if so, is there noticeable benefits from it? by the way the lock screen inking is still there, and i thought it was suposed to be removed on these tablets with kitkat.
I also read that when installing custom roms, there are functions, apps or whatever that might not work properly or at all ?
I have the wifi model, and i'd apreciate any info about all of these questions, thanks in advance!!!
Some people have said that battery levels are the same as jelly bean if not better but god knows.
Btw your tablet probably just needs to settle as its brand new. Use it and charge it a few times and see if it sorts itself out. My Tablet at the start used to drain faster and take donkeys to charge but now that I've had it for 8+ months it sorted itself out nicely.
Sent from Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition via Tapatalk.
This tablet flies after upgrading to kitkat, everything is smooth and responsive and indeed a whole new experience. The multi-touch problem on my tablet has also been fixed in KK and no issue on battery life. Can't think of a single reason going back to 4.3.

Whats the best MM Rom

Needs..lightweight and stable..thats it
for some reason stock rom with elemental kernel is being a pig to me, ive flashed stock MM twice now and still getting big battery drain overnight, so stuff it ill go custom, camera issues im not worried about as i never use camera on tablets, im thinking slimrom 6 may be the way forward, but maybe ive missed an older rom thats the business, or is 7.1 the way to go, or wait for a couple of months for that..cheers
so turning off touch/lock sounds stops battery drain, strange
