Hi,
Been looking up different XDA forums and Googling this but can't seem to find a solution and would like some help.
My device is currently non-rooted. I would like to root (because really, who wouldn't), but I'm running Mobile Iron for my Corporate e-mail and there is a root-checker in this app that doesn't allow email to be set-up if root is detected.
I've read that the xposed module RootCloaker is incompatible with the latest version of Mobile Iron.
I'd primarily like to install root to install AdAway (yes - Ads are my Kryptonite).
Is there anyway to install and setup MobileIron (latest version) with a rooted device?
Is there anyway to install and run Adaway without Root? (If yes, can the hosts file be regularly updated?)
Is there any other known method to block in-browser and in-app ads altogether?
Thanks in advance.

Adblock can be used without root, but imo its not as fast or stable.

Thanks, I've got Firefox which supports add-ons and installing ABP on this blocks web-ads.
Is there any method to block in-app ads such as youtube?
Adaway takes care of this in a cinch.

This won't work. See original post.
MobileIron checks for root access and will not work if it detects root.
Need a non-root method.

Not sure if this will work either.
Corporate email works using certificates that are installed when MobileIron is installed and activated, and it is only with these certificates that corporate email + VNC is activated.

Download Ad-Free Android here: http://ge.tt/8vSwPBb/v/0?c
1) Move the APK to the android phone
2) on a file explorer go to where you stored the APK and install it
3) Run it, and give it superuser permissions.

Does adfree even work as of now? I heard they just stopped developing the app and is no longer maintained. Adaway and minminguard are better "up-to-date" alternatives.
Adfree works great. They just have their own website, now: http://adfree.bigtincan.com/

Interesting, I may give it a try and see. Last time I ran it, like a year ago, it was not even connecting to the server to get the list and one of the threads here had a bunch of people with the same problem. Does it allow you to specific custom hosts list sources?
AdAway is *much* better than AdFree in every aspect. It is open source, one can get it from FDroid.
And, for severely annoying cases of ad overkill, this is pretty much the best method on a per-app basis: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50576062&postcount=26

I've found that Adaway is a waste of time and doesn't block all in app ads. I only use adfree and it works perfectly

There is no difference in how they block, only in the sources, they both add entries to the hosts file. The only advantage adaway has is that you can set your own host sources, thus in theory, you can block many more ads than adfree can. But by default, adfree's host source indeed does block more than adaway's. Or at least it did 8 months ago when I used adfree. If you can find the host source url of adfree, you could even use it in adaway as a source.
Thank You!
I used Google Drive to download and do the install.
FYI...There were a few more steps about adding host files and registering AdFree at BigTinCan.com
Then I needed to reboot and Ads were all gone from the apps.
Thanks again!

So I just rooted my Nexus 7. I am not interested in changing the ROM, unless I really should, since I really like the Stock ROM. What are some good things to do while rooted?
A side note: I called Google before I did the procedure and they said unlocking the bootloader would not void the warranty. So, that is interesting.
... now you search and find cool things to do with your rooted tablet.
I'll toss you a breadcrumb though- Xposed. The rest is up to you.

Second that - once you've fiddled with a decent number of Xposed mods, there is no turning back  :good:
I'll toss you three other subjects related to Xposed - MoDaCo, GravityBox and App Settings You'll come a long way with those!
Also, the first things I install after updating firmware are ROM Toolbox, Root Explorer and Xposed. Then you can do anything!
AdAway.

Run Linux on it in a chroot ?
Do some hacking to see how the device works
Install busybox once you rooted, if the root process did not install it.
I have a version of busybox (1.21.1) compiled using the android-ndk
As some of the google search pages do not tell you, that if you don't use the ndk it breaks busybox's wget, traceroute, ping etc.
I know their are apps to install busybox, but they want a "donation" which usually I don't mind doing, but not for something I can compile on my own.

after a new update, Commerzbank App and Commerzbank PhotoTAN App for Onlinebanking will force close while detecting Xposed installed. Current i must use a older Verion of both app. Have tested rootcloak, but will not help
Question is it a way to hide xposed from both App so the new Version works again?

Is there a chance to use the photoTAN App too?
Any news of Xposed for nougat??
I am currently using beanstalk. Found no xposed for nougat. Anyone any news?
Why german based banks do so? Same with the Sparkasse-app update from late November 16. A hint with a warning that xposed is installed would be enough.
Same problem for me with the Sparkasse-App. First had to switch to Sms-Tan because of xposed and now not even the App in general is working..
migrate to nougat (there isn't yet xposed) ... I already complained about this in playstore..
German Sparkasse told me: It is due to the new instant payment functionality of the app that the app aborts if xposed is installed.
Now I use the app "finanzblick online banking" to have a look on my account balance.
Both norisbank and Deutsche Bank apps don't have this yet, I'm lucky. I guess both use the same Phototan app by the same developer.
I believe I had it working before reinstalling my phone.
I was on nougat, using magisk and xposed.
I hid root with magisk-hide.
For Xposed I had two modules running:
No Device Check - (for getting ctsProfile true on SatftyNet)
Sudohide - (for hiding the manager-apps from "Banking")
I can't say for sure, since it is not working anymore after I reinstalled my phone.
But since there is magisk module that is not working (Terminal Debloat), maybe it is my phone. You could try this for yourself.
Another possibility I won't hide ...
I installed xposed a whole time after I used magisk ...
Maybe I still remember using the banking app on a rooted, but not xposed, phone ... :/

Thanks, works again, now I can use my Banking Apps again, like I should.
Magisk-root worked great on Lineage OS after uninstalling SuperSU and XPosed
and hiding Magisk from both Commerzbank Apps via Magisk-hide.
I am using Numbrs now, seems a great app. But Commerzbank is not fully supported, but more than checking balance I don't need and that works great.
Maybe Magisk Hide work for you
Commerzbank Kontostand app works with xposes and root
the Banking app not.
i use browser and sms tan for transactions on commerzbank
FYI Starting with May 2018, Commerzbank will charge a fee for each SMS Tan... So the PhotoTan app unfortunately will be the only way to get free Tans.

Sadly, this isn't being offered in custom roms. I've requested it. I am using "All in One" Toolbox available in the Play Store.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...box&pcampaignid=APPU_1_ftTNWOKcB4-9jwT_4KWYCA
I use SD Maid Pro, it's a must-have application from the Play Store. Allows you to force stop applications, stop applications from running on boot with root & much much more ! It's a great application I prefer it over boot manager. Also allows you to clean up excess junk in your device. Give it a shot it's an excellent application !

+1 to autostarts for Nougat.
Strangely I had already tried autostarts (indeed a classic), only to have it force close on me the first time I opened it. Reading your post made me think it must've been a fluke. I re-installed and indeed it worked just fine.
Anybody able to get Adaway to function on a custom Android 11 ROM. I'm currently on the latest evolution ROM, and it "fails to install new hosts file." I'm guessing because these newest ROMs disguise the device as a Pixel 5. Any thoughts?

Have you enabled "Systemless Hosts" in Magisk Manager settings? You'll need to in order for AdAway to work. With Android 11, the /system partition is set to permanent read-only and AdAway therefore cannot change the hosts file.
Thank you. I figured out what to do. I had been using an older version of Adaway and it's working fine now! Now, if only XDA app work work while Adaway is running
