A quick look on the internet indicates that this update seems to be purely performance related.

No need to update...
Direct flash rom better...
Probably sorts out the lagging issues with the Dialer/SMS, and probably generally tightens up some code. I also believe it's security related as it's supposed to squash some 'holes' in the Sense software.
is this newer than the India 2.24.720.1 ROM ? isnt 2.24 newer than 2.22 ? but 2.24 was released a year ago !
I am now on jb 4.1.1 stock ROM , I want to root the phone to use the game boost app , I will still use stock ROM , kernel and recovery .
What will happen if there is a new update let's say 4.1.2 , what will have to do to update , by the phone it self or by flashing the update package , I think after I update I will lost the root and will have to reroot ??
I have no idea how HTC devices work ( root process ) since I came for Samsung which were very simple , so answer if you know anything

Your's is froyo 2.2.1 which is already the last OFFICIAL software available for wildfire.
If you want to try any other like ICS 4.0.4 or GB roms that the best option is rooting.
Already the performance of mobile is increase by 200%

You can update it by the official way if you go to
Settings--> About Phone ---> Search for Updates (i think its called something like that)
Now it updates your phone. The 2nd way is searching a HTC RUU. Thats a .exe which also updates the phone via your pc.
You can find them here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275680
There are just a few Froyo ROMs so it shouldnt be that hard to choose which one suits your phone.
Hope this helps you.

HTC have confirmed only 1 update. A maintenance fix for possible wifi issues.
Don't expect any other updates though, the HOX lifecycle is nearly at an end.

They are the same base, the thing is that in different region htc called the rom different, but the base files are the same.
That is, for europe the rom can be called 4.18 and for asia 4.20 but at the end the rom is the same base rom, the differents are some changes in gps and some drivers.

I keep my device Locked and Stock until warranty is over.
Had unlocked it before, was very lucky it was repaired under warranty when my screen went black. Device has been in repair for 4 times now so I'm not risking anything.

I am not sure but I am sure @Mr Hofs know when you download update in wich folder the phone download the ota zip or maybe in the root of the SD Card. Put the zip in the same folder go in stock recovery and apply the update
