Disconnecting from Wi-Fi - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has had any issues with LG G4 (H815 Model) disconnecting from their Wi-Fi with the error as "Avoided due to poor connection".
I contacted LG Support regarding this and i will post the full transcript below, But tl:dr version is they decided not to include the option to stop this from happening which is on pretty much every other Android Phone which is "avoid poor wi-fi connections"., So our only option is to either Wait for a Custom ROM or wait for LG To update their version of Android to add this option

On your wifi router try to change the channel and maybe the frequency too, if u can. Also u can install wifi analizer app and monitor the wifi signal intensity ... To see if it suddenly drop or not. Hope this helps.

My Wi-fi is fine, no other devices on my network have this issue. there's only a couple of us on my street that have a 5Ghz band

I understand... But since any manufacturer use different wifi chip ... It will worth a try. I have no wifi issue with the same G4 model as u, so maybe could be a problem with phone.
In your place ... Before asking for a replacement I'll perform some test just to be 100% sure that the issue is phone related.

Do you have a setting under advanced WiFi called "Switch to mobile data"? That's something you could try toggling. There's also a Qualcomm file called WfdService.apk that screws with WiFi in the background. You could use Debloater to block it and see if it fixes your issue.
I believe a couple of the earlier carrier updates had WiFi fixes, but I think they were specifically for issues with 5Ghz WiFi. I am not familiar with the H815 updates.

[Q] WiFi problem

Just a question to share a problem I've got on my HOX (EU stock ROM), to understand if is a software problem on HOX, if generic of ICS or due other sides...
I've a WDS WiFi network at home (WPA2/TKIP), randomly when I move from a repeater to another one the HOX still keep the WiFi antenna symbol full (so connected) but the traffic jump to 0 like connection don't work, turning off&on the WiFi toggle fix the problem. This happen to wife's SGS2 too (ICS stock rom), so I'm not so sure is a only-HOX related problem. I've tried to change some repeater brand/model without any success.
I cannot repro the bad behaviour, it's too much variable, but looking for a right diagnostic somebody have some suggestion/input about checks?

hboot explanation

Hello, now i am stuck with my wifi issue, i have full signal strenght but wifi and internet hangs anywa, i was wondering first off, what is hboot exactly, second question is does hboot got anything related to wifi radio or drivers? since it can't be downgraded is my phone wifi stuck until something is found ? :'( it worked very well before updates, now even with Cyanogen 10.2 i have the issue, i don't think it is hardware related. Please please anyone knows something about this ? I am starting to regret my money badly :'(
What do you mean with the internet hangs ? Please tell more about it...what exactly happens and which apps aren't working well...hboot is for phones like a driver for bootloader and also for WiFi etc...just like the bootloader is for phones like bios is for pc ...but yea tell more about those WiFi problems...it could be really WiFi problem...or change the WiFi settings in WiFi and then settings...disable all things like optimize WiFi to improve battery life or so...

Well sorry for not detailing, i am just so disappointed that i forgot. Let me explain more, i have the wifi connected, if i lauch for example Play store or facebook or twitter just after i activate wifi it accesses the internet without any problem but that is just for like 30 seconds max, then the wifi stays connected i have the icon with almost max signal, but no more internet, and also i can't access my router when i try via browser, whil it accesses it when i turn wifi off and on, so actually it completely loses connection to the router but i still have the wifi icon. It never did that before hboot 1.73. now i tried 3 roms, ARHD, MaximusHD, Cyanogen 10.2, tried with all params, even static ip forced router to wifi G. Nothing seems to do th trick, i was thinking about the hardware antenna defection, but i have fll signal so i don't know at all now.

Even if you have Full signal with defect WiFi hardware, it doesn't mean it it will work normally...tried to flash custom kernel? Try that

in other devices you can select preferred wifi band to connect.
I also miss this feature. I used to have separate SSIDs for each band but some apps don't like sharing across different ssid names even though it is the same network... Don't know if this is still a problem but it hit me the hardest with chromecast.
Mine always craps out when I connect to 5 GHz, stays connected but there's no data.

This on my T-Mobile 811, I can control it at home, but not at work.
Sorry to revive an old thread but I searched to no avail.
Anyone know how/where to set the wifi frequency band on the G4? I want to force it to use 2.4GHz but the option is not there in Advanced Wifi settings. It is there on my Nexus 4 with AOSP but not the G4.
Thanks in advance.

[Q] Bug with lost signal in "3g preferred" mode alreadyfixed?

A friend of mine is suffering from the nasty bug where if you have a sim card in slot 1 and have it set to the standard "3g preferred" setting, the device randomly looses the connection to the network.
I want to help her fix this by flashing a new rom or updating the existing stock MIUI.
Can anybody tell me if this bug is already fixed in the current OTA update?
Or if this bug is also present in AOSP derived roms?
Thanks in advance.

I'm suffering the same kind of unstable network connection. I had the problem since my carrier activated the 4g connection in my zone. I'm running miui 7 and I have the same issue.
It seems that in some networks, can't download correctly network speed from h+ to h or 3g. I have found a possible solution but it only works only on miui 5.
I use connection stabilizer to improve quality but it is not a real solution. I'm considering change Rom to any other available if this change

Can someone please help me with DNS?

I had many phones and I had many troubles with DNS. Now it is the G4. It seems DNS just stops working sometimes. YouTube just cuts, webpages cannot resolve DNS address. I have to disable WiFi and then enable again to get webpages/internet to work again. When DNS stops working the phones works hard and gets hot and drains battery like hell. I had this problem with Samsung phones too.
It's not my router or internet connection because everything else works (my computers and servers) and I have changes routers many times.
Is this android? WiFi drivers? As i said, it cannot be my network. I use google DNS 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4. I have also tried static IP/DNS address.
This I had with others phones too. Never apple phones though... So it seems like an android problem? Of course I have tried resetting my phone and reinstalling.
Anyone with any useful tips or solutions here? Getting tired of this problem...
What connection are you using? WiFi, mobile Internet? If you're using a router, what model is it? Are you using VPN by any chance?

It's only in wifi. Disable wifi and everything works (4G), then enable wifi again and wifi is OK. Router is brand new asus top model. I also used D-Link and several other asus models. Never used VPN.
How are you setting DNS?

By dhcp. I also used static dns.
Why are you using static DNS? Are you by any chance using a DNS to bypass geolocation? Are any other devices connected to the WiFi having the same issues? This looks a little bit like an issue that is independent of the G4. When you are setting up a static DNS, it may conflict with the other settings. I am using the DNS from the Internet provider, I am not touching any settings for WiFi and I never had issues unless the Internet connection itself had issues (like last week with the DDoS attack from the IoT devices). Maybe it is an issue with your Internet provider.

I use dhcp, but have tried with static. The only thing that hasn't changed is my provider, but as I said, everything else is working except my g4. Same with my Samsung s5, note 3.
There is a "Network settings reset" in Settings -> Backup & reset. Try it. If you can update to a newer version, do it, it will clear Dalvik Cache. I think there is something wrong with one of the system apps. If your G4 is rooted, then just clear Dalvik Cache from TWRP. I would also delete the WiFi AP and reconnect. Did you check the router for the IP it gives the G4? Maybe there is a conflict with another device, if you're setting IPs using MAC address.

Tried all that. Reinstalled the phone several times by the way.
My router gives IP adresses to all my devies and thats a lot og devices. If there is a conflict you know right away and more the other devices who is conflicting will also not work. Every other device works except my G4 UNTIL i disable wifi and then enable it, like within 5 second. Just disable and enable wifi and everything is back to normal.
Do you have the international G4 with European Rom? Try flashing v20i with LG Up or with LG Bridge. I really do not have any other idea.

So how did you fix the issue with those 2 devices? Did it just disappear or fix itself?

Never fixed the issues with those two phones... just had to live with it disabling wifi and enabling again... several times a day. Sometimes after a short while and sometimes after a longer time.
Then I would say that it is not a problem with the phone, maybe with Android. What exact model is the router?

Yeah it has to be a problem with android VS my internet router perhaps. It's weird because I've been through jellybean -> marshmallow.. My internet provider router is Norwegian one (inteno something).
My network:
internet -> internet provider router (inteno) -> ASUS RT-AC68U as access point -> phone.
IP adresses is recieved by the inteno router.
So maybe my phones don't like the internet provider router. Will have to test more when I get fiber internet with a brand new router.
