[Q] A few questions about Custom ROMs - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone! I'm not really new to this Android rooting and unlocking bootloader stuff (I did this to my previous Xperia phones) but I'm "new" with it now because I'm now an LG user. I currently own the D855 Global variant.
So here are my questions:
1.) Is it necessary to unlock the bootloader to flash custom ROMs? Or is root enough? (I rooted my phone yesterday and installed TWRP with AutoRec for D855 users) I'm kinda interested with the Cloudy G3 ROM.
2.) Is it necessary to unlock the bootloader to flash custom kernels?
3.) What does bump mean? I haven't heard this term before.

1) No, you do not need to unlock your bootloader on lg g3 to flash Cloudy ROM or other custom ROMs.
You are not even able to unlock the bootloader on this phone currently. If you already
flashed TWRP go get your Cloudy ROM and flash it with TWRP.
2) Again no. Like I said you are not able to unlock bootloader on this phone currently.
But you will be able to flash custom kernels because they are BUMPed.
3) And finally BUMP is a way of signing boot image so it could be booted on LG bootlader without the bootloader itself being unlocked. All XDA ROMS for LG G3 I found here are already prebumped so you are able to download them and flash immediately.

Thank you so much! Another question tho, if I flash any stock based custom kernel, how do I get back to stock if in any case I would want to?

Before flashing anything you should always do backup with TWRP or other custom recovery you already have. If you did your backup there, just restore it that way.
In case you did not, you are able to use LG flash tool and flash stock kdz files.
Also you could backup your boot.img(kernel that is...) using app like Flashify and restore it with it if necessary.
And again I recommend doing a nandroid backup with TWRP before flashing anything at all.

[Q] Bootloader unlock

My device is rooted and freegee is installed but there's no option for me to unlock my boot loader. It gives me the option to restore or backup few & to install cwm or twrp. If I install the twrp is my boot loader unlocked? & if so can I install a rom. Furthermore can someone explain the lokifying thing?
Thanks
The OGP doesn't have an unlocked bootloader. With Loki, we get around that so we can flash custom kernels which is needed for AOSP ROMs.
Sent from my 4.4 Sphinx LG-E980
OK thanks a lot!! So basically if I have a recovery with Loki support I can flash roms?
Yes. but I would strongly suggest you only flash Roms made for the E980. Many people run into trouble flashing Roms that are meant for the F240's and so on.

From stock 5.0 to a custom rom ?

Hello guys, i was wondering since I've made the 5.0 update (european) if it was possible for me to flash a custom rom like cyanogen without root (because root isn't an option since llp) ?

After flashing a ROM, flash SuperSu 2.4 to get root.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Free mobile app
But how do I flash without root ?
It's noobish question, i can't get to recovery, I've tried with the Power and vol down keys, all i can get is a menu to erase my data, thats it.
Firsh backup your data. Then go back to EU stock ROM:
here are the stock ROMs: http://storagecow.eu/index.php?dir=Xda%2FLG+G3%2FStock%2F
how to go back to your stock ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2797190
Now you can root your LG G3, use TWRP/CWM custom recovery and flash custom ROM.

TWRP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/orig-development/recovery-twrp-touch-recovery-2-8-2-0-t2966129
Thank you, I hoped there was another way, i will downgrade then, thanks.
maybe there is. Im not pro neither I received OTA for 5.0, but I wanted to have my LG rooted, so I had to downgrade and now I am running AN HD.

Root

How do I root my tmobile m8 running Android 5.0.1 and bootloader unlock. Also custom recovery so I can flash a 6.0 ROM
You're saying your bootloader is already unlocked? It may already have custom recovery installed. Just pick "recovery" from bootloader, and see if TWRP boots.
If not, just flash TWRP with fastboot.
You don't need to root, if you are going to go and flash a custom ROM anyway. Depending on the ROM, it may already be rooted. Otherwise, flash the appropriate SuperSU version.

I know you got it sorted out. But its best to post your solution, for the benefit of others that my have the same issue/questions and be looking at the thread in the future:
For a completely stock device on Lollipop, the suggested sequence to install a custom ROM:
1) Unlock the bootloader by HTCDev.com (the process is rather self-explanatory if you follow the instructions on the website)
2) Install custom recovery TWRP 2.8.7.0 by fastboot
3) Flash the MM ROM of your choice. Most will work with Lollipop firmware (meaning, if your phone was on LP when you were stock) but check the thread of the particular desired ROM to be sure.
4) Most ROMs are pre-rooted. But again, check the desired ROM thread to confirm (as root on MM is a little different from past builds).

Possible to flash custom rom via Flashfire on locked bootloader? See video inside

I know the answer is 99% NO but still how did this person do it? Does the galaxy use a different "kind" of bootloader that allows this?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZDMHktN3sc
has anyone with a rooted (but locked bootloader) G4 actually tried the latest flashfire with a G4 custom rom like resurrection?
I tried lollipop genisys and its way faster
Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
You can install Roms with locked bootloader.
I have CamUIX installed, which is based on the original rom.
I am not 100% sure but I know that you can not install custom roms which use a different kernel (any cm rom).
So it wouldn't be very useful :/
By the way, the rom in the Video is also a Touchwiz based rom
Sure you can... You can flash ANY rom that is compatible with stock kernel... Locked bootloader is only about signed boot.img and recovery.img not about system.img
oh interesting.. is there any custom G4 roms that uses stock kernel? i'm hesitant beacuse i have a h812 which has a locked bootloader and none of the roms that i see say that they can flashed for h812
it looks like genisys: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/orig-development/bl-lock-ul-android-6-0-marshmallow-t3459260 uses stock kernel..? will it work on my H812 if i flash with flashfire?
You can flash custom system images ONLY also on lollipop ONLY. Boot.img and recovery must be signed by lg to load with locked bootloader, they obviously arent so cant do a single s**t really.

New here

Hi guys
I m new here, i dont know much about this stuff.
So i have lg g3 d851 t mobile version which is previously unlocked (i dont know which tool was used). The problem is the phone lack some base app like radio and update center ect and its unstable, so i want to flash it.
Phone statue:
+ android version 4.4.2
+ rooted
+unlocked
+bloatloader i think locked
+stock recovery
My question is
Can i install costom rom without losing the unlock? If no can i install stock rom like 5.1 or even 6.0? do i need install 5.1 before 6.0 ?
Pls help
The bootloader isn't unlockable per se. You obtain a custom recovery by downgrading to an earlier android version with vulnerabilities you can exploit to obtain root access. Then you use the root access to flash a custom recovery. You can do whatever you want (whether it be flashing a custom ROM or a stock ROM through lgup), you can always re-root. You'll never lose the unlock since technically it doesn't exist.
With that said, since the phone already has root, you can flash twrp recovery using terminal or adb and flashing any ROM from there. You can also flash the latest stock ROM on a PC using LGUP or lg flashtool or in recovery using the stock ROM by mesa.
Read through the guides here and decide what exactly you want to do based on your preferences. You can always re root if you lose it in the process.
As a side note, there's no radio app for this model as there's no FM transmitter in this device.
Hope this helps.
