Stock N7 2013 stuck on "Google" boot up - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

So my lil siblings did something to their N7...I'm thinking they didn't allow the update to go through cause I remember the other day that the tablet had an update notification.. The tablet is completely stock it'll go into boot loader and into recovery I tried wiping cache and doing factory rest and that was a no go. Short of unlocking and rooting it is there anything else I can do?? I mean of I have to I'll unlock I suppose any help greatly appreciated btw I also have an N7 running clean ROM so I have experience in N7 just don't know what to do while its still boot locked ?

You don't need to root, you need to use fastboot to flash a stock image. Download the 5.1.1 factory image and use fastboot to flash it. Should fix the problem.

Nexus Root Kit is the best way to reflash back the image, pretty easy too

I wouldn't use a root kit, learn how to do it manually with fastboot. Knowledge is power. Root kits are lazy.

[FASTBOOT][GSM][4.1.2] Rooted Factory Images

I have modified the Yakju Galaxy Nexus factory images by completely wiping my Nexus, restoring using the factory images supplied by Google, rooting them and repacking the images with root intact.
After trying so many ROMs that are available, sometimes I think, especially considering the latest releases from Google, that stock is the way to go. Flashing it using these images is my preferred method, being the cleanest, and I have provided these for your convenience as I haven’t seen them anywhere else only ever seen flashable ROMs (i.e. from Recovery) based on the factory images, etc...
These are:
Factory Images “yakju” for Galaxy Nexus “maguro” (GSM/HSPA+)
Android 4.1.2 (JZO54K) with SU binary only
Android 4.1.2 (JZO54K) with SU binary and SuperSU app
Download links are here. MD5 and SHA1 sums are listed so you can check the downloads.
You have to use Fastboot to flash these to your device. The only requirement is that your device's bootloader is unlocked, which you can easily do, but be warned that this will wipe your user data as will flashing these factory images.
To Unlock Bootloader (in the terminal):
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
Unzip the factory image and just run the flash-all.sh in a Linux terminal or flash-all.bat in the Windows command line.
thanks 'mate! I'm gonna try this out in a bit last time I was on stock was still 4.1.1, and my current custom ROM is still on that version.
What are actually the differences of 4.1.1 and 4.1.2? Just thought you had any idea.. :cyclops:
In 4.1.2 I've noticed better battery life like others have reported and notifications can now be expanded and shrunk if you hold on them and drag up and down.

I'm not 100% sure as I have never used a Mac for that but there's a good guide here.
Hey, thanks for the links, just want to ask, if I'm already rooted and unlocked my bootloader, if I flash this via fastboot, will it erase my apps/internal memory/photos and such? Quite curious it's just the unlocking the bootloader that deletes all data. Will like inquiries. Thanks!

If you just run the script as is, it will wipe everything. The best thing to do is just flash the system.img if you want to retain your data.

[Q] Need to go back to Stock Rom without USB

hi,
my USB port on my phone is broken and I need to go back to stock ROM for warrenty. Currently I use the Paranoid ROM 4.2.2 JDQ39 (3.67) and TWPR recovery. I read a lot of posts but I didn´t find a complete guide. So I want to ask if I can do it this way?
1. Close Bootloader with "BootUnlocker for Nexus Devices" app from the playstore
2. Download Factory Image 4.2.2 from the google developers page
Extract everything. I need the files: System.IMG, Boot.IMG, Userdata.IMG, Recovery.IMG ? Or do I need other files?
3. Install Mobile Odin Pro on my phone
4. Load the IMG files in Mobile Odin Pro and start
Is this right? What is with the radio? I have XXLJ1 on my phone. I think it is the latest. Isn´t it?
It would be nice if someone can help me.
thanks

You'll have to close the bootloader last otherwise you won't be able to flash the imgs.
I don't know if you'll can, you'll have to keep root when you reset it because you'll have to lock the bootloader last, then you could factory reset.
Not sure though.

I thought I don't need a open bootloader for Odin Mobile?
I just did this with the same problem about a month ago, and I relocked the bootloader first because you won't have root or a way to use fastboot to lock it afterward. Odin worked just fine with bootloader locked.

i sent my gnex in for the same broken usb port issue, and all i did to the bad one was do a factory reset on cm10.whatever it was at the time, and locked the bootloader with that app, probably did that first i guess lol.
but they havent charged me for that, so i assume its all good, its been a few months so if they were going to charge me they would have i assume

But I´m not sure if it works for me too, so I would like to try to go back to stock ROM. The problem is that I don´t know if it works with this guide and I don´t want to make a mistake.
can anyone tell me if it is possible to use the 4.2.2 factory image from the google developers site or do I have to use a special odin file?
If I have to use a odin file where can I find it? I only found old files with android 4.0.1
thanks in advance for any help.
Can anybody help me with my problem? I try to go back to stock to send it in.

This may or may not be relevant but I used to have a T989 (TMO GSII) and the USB port when bad as well. Any connection that I attempted would last brief moments and in one of those, I took the chance and tried restoring. What ended up happening is the update did not complete and the phone remained in the ODIN screen even after reboots. I sent it in like so and they still honored the warranty. So what I'm trying to say, as a last resort you could intentionally brick your GN...
I have heard however, that warranty companies don't always check to see if you've messed with the software so there's another thought.
Just send it back as is. Your problem is hardware related, not software. They'll refurb the phone and re-image it anyway.
Thanks for your answers!
OK I understand. But is it that dangerous to go back to stock without USB, so I shouldn't do it or is it only that you think it is not necessary?

Why dont you download this on your phone directly http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1882248 and then flash it using Mobile Odin or Recovery. Dont flash SuperUser. Factory reset and then lock the bootloader.
Wouldnt that work?

I think I could flash this with TWRP, if it´s no problem that I come from Paranoid 4.2.2 ? But it is not really stock. Is it? What happen than when I do the factory reset? Does it erase TWRP? And I think I need root to lock the bootloader...

So lets try this again, OK?
1. Download the stock rom from the link and copy to your phone
2. Boot into TWRP
3. Wipe data
4. Flash the stock 4.3 rom you downloaded
5. Reboot.
Now, you have stock 4.3 but you are still rooted. A factory reset from the OS doesnt unroot you or takes away your root.
6. Download this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.segv11.bootunlocker&hl=en and lock yout bootloader. This will do a wipe again. Now reboot.
7. Remove /system/bin/su via adb shell or by using root explorer
8. Remove /system/app/Superuser.apk via adb shell on phone or by using root explorer
9. Factory reset.
Done. By now, you should be stock, unrooted and without any custom recoveries.

I have one more question. In step 3 should I do a factory reset before I flash the rom? Because I usually do one when I install a new rom and I don't want to do a mistake because I can't use usb to fix it. And is it OK that I go from 4.2.2 Paranoid to this 4.3 stock rom?

Before you flash the new ROM; you must wipe data.
And yes, its OK to come from 4.2.2 to 4.3 as long as you wipe data.

Sending in device to Samsung, need to reset to original settings

Sorry for the beginner question, I just don't want to send it in and get it sent back because of some software thing I forgot.
Thanks, and have a nice day!

I'd flash a stock rom directly from Google. Their script wipes everything out and goes completely stock. And then you can run `fastboot oem lock` to lock the bootloader. That's about as stock as you can get.

So if I flash a stock rom with the galaxy nexus toolkit will it unroot my phone or do I still need to do that? And then what do I use to run the "fastboot oem lock"? What about like CWM and like busybox? Will the stock rom get rid of those too?
Thanks for your help btw.

[Q] HELP I seem to be stuck.....

Good Evening all,
I have a T-mobile Galaxy S3 that was rooted. That I took back to stock and unrooted using Odin and T999UVALEM_T999TMBALEM_T999UVALEM_HOME.tar......I let the phone sit for about 25-30 min and it never really made it past the pulsing SAMSUNG screen. Now I rebooted into Flashing Mode (Odin) and Flashed CF-Auto-Root-d2tmo-d2tmo-sght999.tar, thinking that would help.......however.....I still seem to be stuck.....How do I get myself unstuck? Thanks so much for any help .....

Did you update to 4.3 while you were in stock? If you did that, maybe Knox is causing you these issues, if you havent been in 4.3 in stock, you shouldn't have that issue.
I would suggest flashing 4.1.2 version via odin, after that enter recovery and do a factory reset, after that reboot and it should start properly

I originally went to Stock 4.1.2....then got tried to root the phone thinking that flashing different Rom would fix the issue.....no dice...So I flashed back to the 4.1.2 Stock. Made my way around the block that pops up telling me I need to set it back to user mode and did the OTA update. After the update it was still saying that I was in Factory Mode....and needed to reset it to User Mode.....In did a hard reset and wipe....and it is still there.....I may be able to change it through root explorer but I need to root my phone again.....and I have no idea where a safe place to start would be for that....
@jinx0117
Sounds like your EFS folder might have been erased. You can root the phone and check with a file explore. If you don't have a backup of it, there is no way to recover it.
If you have updated to official 4.3 don't try to downgrade with odin or you will end up with a full brick.

Aroma is buggy, you just have to keep rebooting into recovery and keep trying, it will go. Some say it seems to work better without the usb plugged in.
As for team dirt I believe it is a aosp rom. If it is you will have to edit the updater script in the zip file so it know's your new 4.3 bootloader. META-INF>com>google>android>updater-script. If your on windows I suggest downloading notepad++ to edit the file. Just delete every thing down to where it
say's mount then save the file.
Update: I edited the updater for you https://www.dropbox.com/s/xucl47rh1wxg9rt/updater-script
Just put it in the zip file where I told you above, save and copy it to the zip and flash away.

if you're returning it to Google they don't really care if it's locked or not. I've sent them back for an RMA both ways never had any problems
Agree, relocking shouldn't be needed for a RMA...
Just make sure your device is completely stock at the very least.
Personally, I'd flash the factory images to both slots and lock the bootloader. However, if others have suggested they don't have any issues sending it back with the bootloader unlocked, then just flash the factory images.
Although, it is just one command to lock it (just be absolutely sure you're completely stock before locking, if you go that route).

You could download the OTA zip and move it to your data folder with a root explorer type app, then flash it with twrp. Will twrp not decrypt without screen lock security?

My bootloader was unlocked and it was not an issue. I sent my phone back and got a new phone in 6 days. I guess it would also depend on where you live. I live on the east coast and sent my phone to Texas and they sent me a new one from Illinois.
