[Q] Help! CDMA radio not seeming to work after phone got hot - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Phone: Verizon m8
Problem: CDMA/EVDO does not seem to work at all
So I flashed s.rom yesterday and had all sorts of problems reguarding data so I tried flashing another Rom but it was late at night and I fell asleep while it was booting/optimizing apps. I woke up in the morning to find the phone, plugged in, and running the boot animation. I'm now running nusense 6 which has proven to be stable in the past but I can't get CDMA signal. Even going into phone info menu, it won't let me select CDMA or EVDO. Lte works as expected. Can anyone help or give any insight? The phone wasn't that hot when I unplugged it but I know it was far from good for it.
I have to have 3g and 1x because I live in a bad service area and thats all I get sometimes.

[Q] No 3G on Alltel Desire CDMA, stuck in 1xrtt

I bought this phone off ebay. I didn't know when I bought it, but it was already rooted. The seller put the stock rom back on the phone. Everything works great but I am stuck in cdma-1xrtt. Have called Alltel and they updated the prl and we reprogrammed the phone. Still could not get the 3G to work. Installed Oxygen rom to see if it would help but there has been no change. I did notice yesterday while running on wifi that the network said cdma evdo. When I turned off wifi, it reverted back to 1xrtt. I havent been able to duplicate this though. Is there anything I can do to get this running. I love the phone but it is about useless without 3g.
Thanks!
Update
Apparently it is not stuck in 1xrtt. I went across town today and got 3g. My wife's hero gets a strong signal at home, I wonder why my desire doesnt.

[Q] Drop Signal

I'm rooted using Axiom 2.2 and every once in awhile my phone will go from 4g to no signal at all and i didnt move or anything or change networks. It just completely drops and then will come back after 20 seconds if i switch in and out of airplane mode or restart my phone. should i flash the leaked 4.0.3 radios. will that help at all? or any other suggestions?
If you're in the US and on Verizon it's a known issue, something to do with how they've set up LTE which I didn't bother bookmarking. There's several threads on it scattered about.
If not please supply more details of your setup.
yea im in the US on verizon but my friend has the nexus too and his doesnt do that were both hacked with the same exact set up. i know 4g is an issue but im in NYC and i should never be out of 4g and if i am i shouldn't lose 3g and data completely and no txts or calls while its out

My first Nexus did this. Tech support had me go to a store and have them swap out the SIM card...but within the first 5-10 minutes after I left the store, it did it again twice. I went back to the store, they swapped out the phone, and the new Nexus hasn't done it one time since (this was about a week ago).
If, on the other hand, your phone maintains at least a couple of bars of signal but just loses the 3G/4G icon for a while every so often, it could just be Verizon's 4G network acting up. This can cause intermittent data drops, even if you're in a 3G-only area. Give it a day or so, and it should clear up.
thanks kinda what it does where it just goes out and comes back but my speed has never been that slow i always have good download and upload speeds just lose connection every once in awhile. would flashing the 4.0.3 radios help at all?
It's not a faulty phone.. it is just LTE growing pains. Yes you can probably get them to give you a new device, but it isn't necessary.
Also, the newest radios might help.. and if they don't you can always switch back
yea i have 4.0.2 and 4.0.3 on my phone so if 4.0.3 doesnt work i can just flash 4.0.2 and then ill be fine?

In terms of radios and roms, yes you can flash a 4.0.3 rom/radio or a 4.0.2 rom/radio. The trick is just to find which radio works best for you as not every device is the same
Seems like its more of on the Verizon side not really a phone radio issue.
Only problem im having is dropped calls but not short calls seems to only happen at about the 15 min mark on all long phone calls.
I keep a steady data connection at all times

4g service but no 3g?

This JUST started yesterday...
So, yesterday at work I noticed I had no data...so I did the typical restart...still no data...I shrugged it off and went on my way. As I was driving I had data again. I use wifi at home, so when I got home I didnt notice any issues and honestly kinda forgot about it. Well on my way back to work this morning I looked at my phone...had full 4g service...all seemed well. Then I got to my office...
Now let me explain I DO have 4g in this area but honestly...its only a solid 4g outside. Its not the greatest indoors. Well in my office I only get 4g if I'm standing at the window or one "sweet" spot at my desk. So 99% of the time I'm in 3g. Well to make a long story short my 3g antenna seems to be borked. I can pull 4g fine...on lunch today I was in 4g and it was working great. However, when I'm in 3g I get zero data...my phone doesnt work in 3g only 4g.
I called verizon and they just decided to send me a new phone...
I have rooted my phone and I have put the newest radio on. That was awhile ago though. Tonight I'm going to try flashing a different radio but has anyone else had this problem?
Again I get NO 3g service only 4g. In an area where 4g is spotty thats NOT good.
Thanks!
Yes, I had the same issue. The first Nexus I had gave me spotty 4G service and never went to 3G in the couple of weeks I had it. Amazon sent me a replacement which is rock-solid. I get solid 4G coverage where I should (my wife and several coworkers have LTE phones so I know where I should) and when I don't have that 3G kicks right in.
I think you should definitely expected better results with a replacement. Good luck.
I had chosen to use 3G over 4G to save battery life. After about a week with the phone I began to notice that I can hardly ever get 3G reception any more, even though 4G reception has always been excellent. I don't think it is a problem with the phone, but rather Verizon tinkering with its network.
I was having the same problem all day today.
I switch the phone to CDMA during the day and use the office's WiFi for data. However, I noticed today as I dropped my daughter off at school after lunch that I had voice only and no data. Her school is the first tower north of my office that doesn't have an LTE radio, so I normally just get 3G.
Not today.
I drove back to the office and I was able to get data through the LTE radio, but the data connection would go dead as soon as I switched to CDMA. I thought there might be something wrong with the CDMA tower, but two of my co-workers had Thunderbolts set to CDMA only and they were having no problems getting data connections.
I talked with tech support for a good couple hours this afternoon and they had nothing for me. Eventually I flashed the leaked 4.0.3 radios and CDMA magically started working again.
Did the new radios fixed the problem, or is it just a coincidence?
Hmmm...
I have been having the same issue since yesterday. Verizon said there is no outages in the area. I had no data all the way home from CT to NY and finally when I got home at night 4G worked. 4G was working in and out on my way in so I forced CDMA to see if that worked and I have been unable to get anything since. I have a new SIM coming today, but somehow I do not think that will solve the issue.
I've noticed this too. I was turning my LTE off thinking it would use 3g, but I'm noticing now that many times I either have 4g or no data at all.

I'm having the exact same problems and registered here to see what the resolution is. I'm apprehensive to root as I am still within the 15 day return window and quite frankly for 300$ I think this is total BS. Never had a dropped call, missed or unsent text on the 3g network on my old Dinc and I've lived in the same place for 2 years.
OP- could you keep this updated on how your new device works out?
same exact thing happened to me. I'm already on my second nexus and I didn't want a refurb or to lose root. So I flash android revolution hd , used tb to delete all my apps, and hid all signs of root including deleting su. I took it to Verizon and they gave me a new sim card. It was OK for about a day then started acting up again. So I called them from my wife's phone and they had to reset my number to the network and its been fine since

What do you mean by reset your number to your network? Never heard that term before
I'm not exactly sure, some techs don't know about it. When I had my charge it had no data. So they reset my number and phone to the network and I immediately got data back

[q] no signal when charging

Ok this is by far the weirdest thing i have had happen to a phone. I plug into charger it loses all signal at my house or in my car when im home but as soon as I unplug signal returns. I have tried different cables modems and everything i can think of. First you all should know my phone is flashed to page plus and when it was on sprint it roamed here and did the same thing so i loaded a no roaming prl on my phone and tada still no service but here's what really confuses me when i go to work and charge still keeps service. I flash a lot of these and noticed that in some areas it just kills 3g when charging other areas they work great. I would really like to find a fix. if anyone can help me fix this im more than happy to return the favor!!!

[Q] Phone only reboots with little or no reception

Hi I've been using this lg p930 first with AT&T and now I've unlocked it and use it with a straight talk SIM card for t-mobile (I was sent a t-mobile sim by straight talk even though I told them my phone is unlocked AT&T).
I'm aware of the issues people are having with rebooting and freezing and am glad to say I don't experience this at all when I'm at home. However I usually visit my sister on the weekends and this phone does nothing but reboot. At my own home, I have great reception, no wifi, and no rebooting. Here at my sisters apt there is virtually no reception except by the side of the apt facing the street where the window is.. There is wifi here. And my phone reboots. It's rebooting as I type this post.
I thought it might be that whenever the phone has disconnected from the carrier and is trying to pick up a signal to reconnect, the phone will reboot..? Since my phone works fine at home I was wondering if anyone had a simpler suggestion besides rooting and installing a custom rom to fix the rebooting which only occurs at my sister's apt? Like a temporary fix? Since the phone works fine any other time I want to avoid any heavy changes.
Thank you... And if anything I suppose ill just deal with the damn reboots when I visit the fam.. Or be the reason why I shouldn't come over to my sisters crappy apt every weekend. :victory::laugh::victory:

What baseband are you on? do you get 3G with t-mobile?
heres what my phone tells me..
android version: 2.3.5
baseband version: P930-MDM9200B-V10j-FEB-26-2012-XX 1
kernel version: 2.6.35.11
build number: GRJ90
software version: LG-P930-V10j-FEB-26-2012
i dont know about my 3g...my carrier is straight talk. i guess they piggy back on t-mobile networks. currently they reduced my data speed to slower than dirt because i play some games on my phone which use a launcher to connect to facebook to play the game and somehow this is too much for their network to handle. they say when i refill with a new service card, my speeds should return to normal unless they monitor excessive use again which they will then lower my data speeds again until the next time i refill. i really couldnt tell you if im 3g or 4g.. right now everything on my phone connects at the speed of dirt.
well, anyway i dont know how to check that. please teach me how and ill tell you..
Why not upgrade to ICS? This may help with reception and stability.
this rebooting only happens when im at my sisters where there is no reception. it doesnt happen whem im at my own apt where reception is good. im not againt upgrading or anything, im sure eventually i will, just wondered if there was a temp fix that wont require a lot of messing with the system.. im usually at my place so if its not broke here then i dont mind leaving it as it is.
I agree with the "don't upgrade unless you need to" sentiment but ICS offers so much more than GB. ICS is also faster and much less laggy based on my personal experience with a Bell P930.
try flashing the V20c baseband. I was getting 1 bar constant, and afterwards I get full now. Other then dead zones. Montana woo hoo

well, i switched carriers from straight talk to t-mobile. i get reception at my sisters now and the phone hasnt rebooted yet. now i wonder if i do upgrade to ics if it will be worse or not... because i do agree gb is a bit laggy and the browser is pretty slow imo.. but now with t-mobile i get the 4g lte symbol ... and im orderin tg an extended battery for this phone bc the battery drains so quickly..
thank you for your helpful suggestions!
