So I was in the same boat you are in. Nothing could read the card except for my Nokia n97 mini. It recognized the card as "locked" and prompted for a password. I bypassed the prompt and went to the file manager. From there it let me format the card and it is back to normal. See, Symbian is good for something after all!
PS: I tried the same process with an E71 and had the same successful results. All recent Symbian phones should work as it appears they can handle the encryption and password. The card is now happily back in my HTC EVO.

one downside: you need a symbian phone .

There are some people reporting that if you replace the sd card of your WP7 phone and then want to use it again for your pc it isn't reconsigned any more .
this mean that you can not use it and you can not format it (for the time being it is bricked )
lets hope someone knows a way to fix it .
edit : maybe it is wise to make this sticky for a view weeks .

correct. Once the card is formatted for the phone, it can only be used with the phone.
Huh? You cant even format it after using it on the phone? Maybe Windows will fail to format it but there has to be a way to get it formatted again. They can't brick your card.

No , you can't format the sd card any more after using it in your phone .
you can only use it on your wp7 phone .
and that could be real expensive if you brick your class 6 32GB sd card .
More than likely there will be an app or tool to fix this in the short run. Never say never around XDA.

That would be my first guess.
I guess what is surprising me is for how long the phone has been in preview and in devs hands, why in the hell are so many features that are probably in the phone or are questioned to be in it, not being found already? God the first thing I do when I get a new gizmo is to search every nook and cranny of every option and setting. A good example is this and how NOBODY has tried it yet with a replaced microSD from an HD7, and how long it took for somebody to find a way to add your own ringtone. (Its right there in the Zune Hub!?! Who Knew!?!) lol
Seriously If I had a device at any point before/at the release, I could have easily found answers to a lot of questions that have been asked. Sadly with real life not landing me a job as a website tech reviewer or dev I get pushed to the back of the line. Not to toot my own horn but I really do feel like a fairly high quality QA person. I may not be able to write my own code, but I can poke and play with yours till I find all the bugs and all the features.
Anyone with a loner HD7 wanna throw it my way for test and analyzing purposes until I can get my hands on my own Sprint HTC 7 Pro? I can probably provide some really useful feedback and quality video that could easily rival a lot of these sites.

The reason is because it hasn't released to the USA yet. I have noticed that other areas lack the adventurous spirit.

Little bit off topic, but I consider my self to be a fiddler trying to find out every little option. I truely cannot find anything in zune on how to set ringtones?!
Where!? and How?!
In the tech video somewhere a day or 2 ago the guy said the option was within the zune hub. Of course no showing or saying how. Is there not a longpress on a song or the 3 dots option anywhere you can see?
Sitting stuck in the US really stinks. I wish Microsoft would give me a dang job lol. Need to get in touch with some more contacts.
That's because the setting doesn't exist. You can only use the ringtones that are on the phone right now.

Exactly. Geez, why are people refusing to believe this, it's a well known fact that at the moment you cannot set your own ringtones.
As for replacing the SD card in a HD7, been there done that. Works great, however HTC's WP7 hardware really sucks, so unless you're a diehard fan (or get them free) go with Samsung or LG. LG is actually the better choice in many aspects (just not, unfortunately, when it comes to hardware/feel).

Ok XP can only see one partition on a removable USB but if change the USB driver to a fixed disk driver then XP will see it as a hard drive then we can have lay down multiple partitions as we like. Now open regedit and goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\USBSTOR
and double click on USBSTORE and you see a subkey below it, select the first subkey below USBSTORE and right click and select Copy Key Name
Here is mine, yours maybe different.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\USBSTOR\Disk&Ven_Generic&Prod_ USB_Flash_Disk&Rev_0.00
Now we need only need this part:
USBSTOR\Disk&Ven_Generic&Prod_USB_Flash_Disk&Rev_0.00
Copy and paste it temporarily into notepad.
You will now need this driver. http://www.xpefiles.com/viewtopic.php?t=92
Unpack it to a folder on your desktop. Inside the folder is the file cfadisk.inf. You need to open this file and scroll down to you see the line %Microdrive_devdesc% = cfadisk_install, specific data
Now you need to replace all lines %Microdrive_devdesc% = cfadisk_install, specific data with
the line you copied from your registry like so.
%Microdrive_devdesc% = cfadisk_install,USBSTOR\Disk&Ven_Generic&Prod_USB_Flash_Disk&Rev_0.00
There could be more lines so replace all and save the file.
Goto Device Manager and click on disk drives. You see your USB listed, dbl click on it and goto the driver tab and click update driver and install from a specific location and choose the driver to install and click on Have Disk and browse to the cfadisk.inf file your modified driver on your desktop and force that to replace your existing driver. It might ask you to reboot. You should now have your USB showing as Local Disk

I used this to make more partitions on a usb stick , maybe you can use this to make a local Disk of it and then make a new partition on it .
unfortunately I do not have XP anymore but diskpart under windows7 does not detect the media itself so it cant do a diskpart in the first case.
Its like the media does "not exist" anymore.
I really don't want to throw away my 16GB and my 32GB card and am still trying out solutions here.

The SD card cannot be reused to prevent piracy and information threft.
If you have business information on you SD card (say, emails, PPT/Word/XL documents), you don't want anyone to be able to just remove the SD card and use it in another phone. It's well known that WP7 uses a Raid-like setup for storage to show SD+Internal storage as one continuous unit.
Why people think you'd be able to just remove the SD card and view it in another computer/phone is beyond me... It's like common sense has gone AWOL these days...
Making the card unreadable improves security. Perhaps this isn't a big deal to many, but until you have a phone stolen/lost with confidential infromation on it, you don't know what it feels like to know that the informatin is safe and inaccessible to others.
Also, it's totally random which SD cards will work correctly in WP7 devices. The cards that do work are only shipped in bulk (to manufacturers, most likely), and aren't available for consumer purchase.
It's totally possible that a card may work right now, but as it ages it will start to fail and you will be forced to remove it.
Paying $200 for a 32GB Class 6 card right now isn't even worth the risk.
SD Card Size and Class has nothing to do with compatibility. It has more to do with random read/write speeds, which aren't the same as the card's throughput (i.e. Class).
That is probably why there aren't ay 32 GB WP7 devices available at the moment. If you want more storage you can either:
1. Buy a 16GB device and deal with it if it's enough for you.
2. Buy a 16GB device and wait for WP7 compatible SD Cards to become available.
3. Don't buy a phone and wait for 32GB phones are available (and maybe by the time the WP7-compatible SD cards are available and you can get up to 64GB storage).
4. Wait until a manufacturer releases a phone with 32GB+ NAND Flash Memory in it.
IMO, Microsoft should have dictated NAND Flash memory. SD cards do nothing but create support issues, and allow the manufacturers to skimp a lot (by using the lowest class cards available, among other things).

The more I read on the WP7 and its "expandable" storage the more I am convinced that MS has implemented RAID0 stripping to provide a higher bandwidth/speed increase in I/O and disregard data integrity error checking. This leads me to believe that WP7's performance on a slower media is horrendous (MicroSD cards), and without a doubt it is a cost saving for manufacturers because no one in their mind is going to pay a premium price for high capacity NAND storage.
I purchased one of the 32 gb memory card from verizon and everything worked fine up until yesterday wben it fried, all data gone, card unreadable, all rom's, back-up, pictures, you get the idea. I am writing this to as a suggestion to have people every so often to back up there sd card data to either there laptop or desk top so the wont be out all the information and say the $100 bucks they paid for the card.

I do but I actually had been using it to store other information on. I ended up copying my wifes card from her evo, all her files so that I would have alot of the data that I lost such as my file folders, and some photo's and video's that we had the same ones of, Her phone is set up similiarly to mine but not exact. I hope I can return it to verizon and get a replacement I miss the extra capacity, I had over 50 full lenght video's plus all my nandroid backup's and photo's that i have been passing from one phone to the next ever since cellphone started allowing for such things. I am now going to have to see if I have the photo or at least some of them on any of our computers.
The good news is I thinks scandisk has a life time warranty if verizon doesnt make good with me.

That's very unfortunate (and really an unforgivable malfunction by Samsung, I think) because there is no way I've seen to regain the pictures. There are a dozen posts like yours on the different carriers individual forums stating exactly the same problem..with no solution. There's many different types of SD cards listed too so it's not the cards themselves, It's the phone doing it. The programs on the internet don't get them back and I believe the actual picture itself is probably corrupted as it's writing to the card. The same thing happened with the note3. There's another post on this forum with a guy who took pics of his SONS WEDDING and it was all lost. I hope I'm wrong, Disneyland is awesome

Just so you know if you tell the camera to write to phone memory it works fine, you have to then use the stock file manager to move them to card for storage.
I have a feeling it's a security knox thing, hope sammy fixes this soon.

I have problem on my Samsung Evo sdcard 64gb, it is 100% working good on my Huawei P8 Lite but when I transferred it to my Lg G Pro 2, it says corrupted.
Fyi, i gently removed my sdcard then transferred it to my G Pro 2 then after that, it cannot read and says corrupted or unsupported file system, which is not true because G Pro 2 can support 64gb sdcard.
Pls advise how to fix this without reformatting.
So Im going on vacation here in a few days and was downloading my Amazon prime music to my 64 GB SD card and then randomly after I was done downloading it it gave me a error that said the SD card was blank or had file types that were unsupported. Now when you go to the storage location under settings it would act like the card was not even mounted and would tell me to reformat it.. So I've done that twice and re-downloaded and still the same issue. Now this happened on my Note 3 with a compactly different SD card.
The SD card in my note 4 is brand new is there something Im missing? Its getting super annoying. Because when I have apps to the sd card and pics you cant seem to retrieve them. Is it possible that after I use 32GB of space on that card that anything after that corrupts? Pretty sure that sounded stupid!
I had a issue on my camcorder that i put a 64 gb card in my camcorder when it stated that it supported up to 32gb and anything after that corrupted,
Any suggestions>?

Sounds like you're using a counterfeit SD card. They're usually a smaller card (8GB or something) hacked to make it appear to be a larger capacity (say 64GB). When you put the card into a device, it reads as the larger capacity. When writing to it, it can only write up to the actual size, then loops back to the first sector on the card and continues writing.
So basically, in your case, the card may actually be 16GB or something. When writing to it, the card will fill up the 16GB, loop to the first sector, and write over what was just written. It'll do this 4x! (4x16=64). So this will corrupt your card and give you these problems.

I prefer Sandisk, Samsung, Sony, or Kingston. Buy at a brick and mortar store though. Don't buy online. Well, you can buy online, but do it from brick and mortar store websites (like Best Buy). It's the only way I've found to guarantee not getting a fake. Fakes are especially on Aliexpress, Amazon, and Ebay. Avoid those places for sure.

Yeah, high possibility it's fake. If I had pics of it, I could probably tell, but I'm not going to ask you to go through all that trouble.
Instead, read this:

Also try this if you want. It's an app that tries to detect the authenticity of your micro sd.

Best Buy only sells genuine cards, and sellers on their marketplace should be authentic too. You should be safe, but I would've gone with whatever was on sale there. No matter what, it should be real.

Sorry, but I don't know anything about unlocking. I only know about sd cards because of personal experience. I've bought many cards over the years and many were fakes or crapped out on me in under a year due to poor quality. I've learned where to buy and where not to, trustworthy and untrustworthy brands, etc.

Hello,
I have made some photos directly saved on my SD card. After a wile it is nomore posible to display them. I only get a grey square with an exclamation mark.
My SD Card is an PNY 256 GB High Performance Class 3 (normally 30 Mo/s).
Photos are no longer recognized by the different PC sofware and are no longer reparable.
Do somebody have the same problem?
I have seen this problem before, with kingston and sandisk cards, in your case most surely it is the same thing, try with another card to check
You could check with PNY if they offer some sort of recovery/check. If you see it as a drive on your PC you can run "checkdisk" for errors. Sometimes I use MiniTool Partition Wizard Free to run "surface test" on problematic SDs, though 256GB card will take a long time for that program to ping every cluster.
I have a samsung 64gb sd card and have no problems with mine I think its because of the 3 back the card up and put back on and see if happens I bought a 256gb of wish before got refund on it but the right speed to it was so slow and after a while it lost pictures and so on
I have tested the card with chkdsk and there is no problem!
Tested with H2testw an got a different answer; first the speed is not that given on the markin (appr. 10Mo/s instead of 30 Mo/s) and after 14,9 Go tested, it says that the rest is defective.
I surely got one of the "best quality" chineese copy.

I've noticed that I get corrupted pictures on SD card only after a few days of passing through an airport. I am led to believe that it's due to the X-Ray scanning they do which could damage some sectors of the SD card. If you want to continue to use SD, I'd recommend spending the extra bit to get a genuine card that is hardened against X-Ray/other scanning methods.
I've personally moved on to cloud backups; currently using my Office 365 subscription that gives me 1TB of OneDrive storage. Also allows for 5 other users each with their own access to the Office suite and 1TB of OneDrive storage each.
Hope that helps!
Make sure your card is authentic.. on internet you find many scam SD cards cheap and their memory is not what your device tells you. It looks like it records but after a while it deletes previous files like older photos... because its real memory is like for example 1GB instead of 64...
Buy them premium on trusted shops (careful with amazon for example).
Corrupted card. Highly unlikely the card is bad.
Corrupted cards will however behave like this.
Do a low level format with a PC apk designed to do this like Lexar's. It will tell you if any unremappable sectors exist and remap them if doable.
Do Not use Windows to low level format.
Do Not switch cards between devices particularly cams without formatting first in cam before using. Switching cards with data on them can corrupt them.
Same may apply to phones...
Make sure contacts are clean. Never touch with fingers.
ALWAYS protect cards from ESD; if you can feel a static discharge it's already enough to fry SD cards and sims.

There can only be one folder on the Android who's name has DCIM in it. If there's more than one it will cause mayhem... on the SD card if you copy images from the internal memory DCIM folder rename the new folder something different!

I should clarify, those greyed out thumbnails were visible before and location wasn't changed on the SD card. Only things that changed were inserting the same SD card into another device.

Yeah that's generally not a good idea. It can corrupt the card especially if the two devices are writing to it. Had it happen to me before with Canon cams; you don't share a card unless you cam format it first. Not sure of the exact cause only how to prevent it.
That hasn't happen with my N10+ twins, yet, maybe because they're the same model. Something I need to keep in mind...

Good point.
That maybe it; I recently accidentally did a swap without a dismount without incident but did power the phone off first.
OTG has spoiled me
I need to be more careful...
Generally it's best to leave the SD card in place and do everything through the phone instead.
On Canon cams there's no dismount option I believe, plug and play.

Got the Note 10 plus today. Pretty impressed, almost like new condition coming from Samsung, all plastic films intact on sides and front back etc. Even the imei is etched in the back glass. Definitely a new frame and oledpanel used during the their refurbished process. However to nit pick one small area of the back glass edge to frame gap is bigger near the camera lens side. That was me inspecting it with a light and magnification lol.
The OLED panel is crisp and uniform. Very pleased so far.

Yay! In time for the weekend.
What's it loaded with? 12?
A new AMOLED panel is great news!
Not sure what the gap is; it should be sealed with a custom cut double side adhesive seal. Should be uniform. I'll take a look at my copies closer next week...
I got a 1tb Sandisk Extreme on the way from B&H Photo, $189 total. Beware there seems to be some counterfeits being sold at half price... that's how you tell.
Lol, funest, best running old phone I ever had

Don't get mad bro, it came with android 11 and I upgraded it to 12. The imei shows manufacturer date of April 2022.
Just finished doing some adb disabling and removal of leeching apps. Runs nice and cool and battery even out of box didn't drain 1 percent every on min

Now, now... you can tell me all about the big bad Android 12 latter. Anyway learning new curse words helps to develop one's character...
It's not a ☠big deal☠ as you probably can roll it back to 11 if needed.
Those skulls mean nothing...
Just browsing my SD card and similar. Occured a while back before Note 10.
