"Not enough space" on Galaxy Ace II - Galaxy Ace II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys. I tried to browse for answers regarding this issue, but I couldn't find anything that worked for me,
I've gotten to a point where any time I either download a single picture from Whatsapp or take a photograph with my phone, I get the "There's not enough space in your device memory". I discovered that neither deleting apps nor moving them to my SD card had any effect on this. This is very frustrating. I have double checked every single folder inside "sdcard0" and there are no big files taking up space. I'm running on a stock, non-root 4.1.2.
I recently deleted around 200 - 300 pictures from my external SD card and the following time I connected the phone to my computer, I noticed the phone's memory had like 200 mb of free space that it didn't before (and yes, I was ABSOLUTELY sure those pictures where stored in my external SD). But just a couple of days after that, the space issue got even worse than before.
I found a thread made by someone with the same issue, and someone suggested to uninstall all Google Play updates. I did that, and it didn't work.
I hope you can help me find a solution. Thanks in advance.

Memory Full on Tilt 2 AFTER Deleting Messages

I keep getting the "Memory Full" message, even though I've deleted enough stuf to give me roughly 5 MB of free space. I can't even receive new texts. I did a soft reset and it worked for a while before the "Memory Full" message popped up again. As for emails, they are read then purged from the phone (but kept on my pc). A lot of pictures have been moved to my microSD card. I'm now up to a little over 6 MB in free space, but the message still pops up.
How can I fix this and stop this annoying popup???
First I would get as many programs as you can to the SD card, I would also delete all the att bloatware, and get Total Comander and retweak all mail and texts to SD card.
Also this may be a simple fix, but after you deleted your messages did you go to the delted items folder and clear all deleted ?
delete your web browsing cache... I've heard that takes up a lot of storage.

I sure did. After it was emptied I got up to 6 MB of free space. I'll try your other suggestions one I get home tonight.

[Q] After rooting - phone is always low on storage. please help!

Ok..
I am pulling my hair out on this.
I rooted the phone, unrevoked forever!, and now my phone is always reporting it is low on storage. I removed half the apps on the phone and can't get rid of the message.
I did do a nandroid recovery once to make sure the nandroid backup was good (could that screw up the storage totals)?
Under phone storage:
SD Card:
Total 7.6, avialable: 6.2
Internal Phone: Total: 6.6gb, available: 6.45
Phone Memory: Total: 748mb, available 628mb
Looking at the items listed under manage memory (when you click low storage) I estimage about 160mb or so of storage.
When I mount the drives on my computer, I am matching the numbers shown above for available (but the bar charts in windows showing how much memory is left are wrong - they are showing very little free storage).
Any suggestions on how to fix this? I am out of apps I can remove (and that does not seem like the issue anyways).
Any suggestions?
I had this happen over and over again over the life of the phone, including well before root (the first time within days of receipt).
Online, I could only find discussions where people blamed HTC's Mail application, which appears to increase in size, even when no new mail has been downloaded. Asinine, because we have PLENTY of storage?
However, 90% of my ROM installs, I haven't even bothered to set up HTC Mail, and still had it happen. A few times I went into Settings > Applications > Manage Applications, and cleared out data for com.htc.provider.settings or com.htc.socialnetwork.provider to clear the message.
The last time, yesterday, I deleted Facebook/Twitter data (official applications from the market), and deleted Google Earth. One of those cleared it.
I've sat around quiet about it because obviously this isn't widespread. HTC is aware of the issue... but considering I've run two sense and two vanilla ROMs based on leaked 2.2, I have a strange feeling I'm going to keep seeing it.
Let me know if you find anything that isn't a little more hearsay. I'll do the same. My next plan is to wait for Cyanogen and do apps2sd. Don't know why I linked the two, but that is the plan.
I did a complete wipe and a nandroid recovery of my base ROM. While syncing in Touchdown, the low storage message popped up (I sync a large amount of data - ~68mb of data currently). I went into touchdown and removed a few folders (shrinking the data file size) and the message went away.
I am guessing there is a bug when data file size (either one or the aggregate of all) hits a certain threshold the message pops up. For now, I am just syncing less data and will see if it appears again.
I freaked the first time I saw that. Then I saw I had 5 nandroid backups. I moved all but one into a file on my computer and TAHDAH! I had space again. Of course I'm still using the 2GB card that came with the phone, but check how many nandroid backups you have, or back ups from other apps.

[Q] What is up with the data/data folder in Ginerbread?

Ok so as we all know this is the folder that gives us the low on storage message when we get under 15mb of space left. But this folders data numbers are going crazy on me. For instance I moved a few bigger apps (like google earth and google plus) to the sd card and had about 20mb left, but after using the phone for 2 days straight I checked and only had about 1.5mb left. Now to lose 18mb to cache is kinda crazy but after restarting the phone the number jumped back up to about 16mb free. Seems this problem keeps happening to me in Ginerbread only and I am getting tired of keep getting that low on space message.
I dont think any one has found a fix for it other than using apps such as link2sd and notenoughspace. I use the link2sd app my self, it moves the apk, dalvik, and lib files to a sd card extension.
possible fix
You should check out jermaine151's Stock+ version 2.1. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1260994. I can't personally vouch for it as he just released it and it's a little late to start reinstalling everything, but it looks promising.

Pictures keep disappearing

Hi all! I love this forum and I would greatly appreciate any help you can give me.
I recently upgraded from the HTC one m8 to the HTC 10 and I noticed that sometimes when I take pictures they completely disappear. They're there for a short while then I can't find them again even when I connect the phone to my PC. I can't change the camera settings to store the pics on the device rather than the SD card. For some reason it won't let me change it. Also sometimes when I take a screenshot I get an error saying that it couldn't store it on the SD card because the app doesn't have permission or sometimes it says that there's no room on the SD card. Both are untrue.
I went to a comic convention today and took some good pics, I went to upload one to twitter but I think there was a network problem because nothing online was loading so I restarted my phone and then the pic (and the others I'd taken during that day) had disappeared. I took more pics and double checked they were in the gallery, which they were only to find they have gone missing now.
Is this a device issue or an Android issue? Any help would be great, I'd love to get these pics back.
I feel like I was having issues finding photos I downloaded from Google Drive as well.
Download Quick Pic from the store and see if you can find them through settings.
HTC10
Thank you for your advice. I downloaded it but unfortunately the pics are still missing. It's just so weird. I shared one via Skype before it disappeared. It still shows up in the Skype convo but nowhere else

Did you try a file Explorer?

I did and still nothing. Only 5 pictures appear that I've taken with the camera on this phone and I've taken at least 20. The ones that have disappeared are from different times as well.

Where are you saving them to? The internal storage or external SD card? It shouldn't really matter I suppose but it might be a factor.
I save to the external card and haven't lost any.
To the external card. I tried changing it to internal to see if that made a difference but for some reason it won't let me change it

More pics keep disappearing. I don't understand it. Some stay on the phone and some don't

try formatting your SD card within the phone and see

As the person above me stated, reformat your sd card from within the phone and restart your device. Then change the photo save location to your sd card.

after you get your card formatted and working because it does seem like you have a faulty card or not formatted properly to save the photos, I would set up google photos to save them automatically, you have unlimited storage with it if you choose that setting. That way you will have have them backed up even when on the go and since its kinda the new htc 10 gallery no reason not to use it fully, will also remove the sync sign in the app on the corners of your photos

Do you have an issue where you SD unmounts?? Try a different camera app to see if you can map the internal memory.
I've had the problem with the SD card ummounting, it's a pain but apparently something which a lot of people live with.
Try a different SD card, see if this persists, try with no SD card, see if it persists.
Clear data on the camera app within application manager.
Use a file manager and go to DCIM check all the folders within that folder and see if you can see the images you took.
So long as the little preview of the image showed a change within the camera app, the images should still be on there.
Hope this helps.

The photos already save to the SD card. They've always saved to the SD card from the moment I bought it, put it in the phone and formatted it. I didn't even need to change anything in the camera settings. They're just automatically stored there. I could format it again but then if the photos are somehow hidden on the card then they'll get deleted.

I tried different camera apps and they wouldn't let me choose anywhere but the SD card to save photos. I removed the SD card and the camera apps would'nt take pics. They kept insisting I insert an SD card. The camera app that came with the phone wouldn't even bring up the storage option. The other camera apps wouldn't let me choose anywhere else to save photos. They said cannot write here. I'll try another SD card when I have a chance to get one. The little preview showed at first in the photo gallery but the moment I selected it it wouldn't load then it refreshed and the image was gone.
It's just so odd that it's not all pics.

And in file manager?
Also what rom are you running mate?
Any mods which alter installation locations? Are you on the correct firmware? What htc do you have US carrier? International?
It does sound odd, but I'm thinking fixable. Could it be a read / write issue? Has permissions been denied for the camera?
Check permissions within camera in app manager.

Once they've disappeared from the photo gallery they also disappear from the file manager.
It's the stock rom that came with the phone. I haven't modified it like that in any way.
It's O2 carrier in the UK.
As far as I know it's the correct firmware.
The only time there is ever an issue with the camera is when occasionally it tells me it can't save the image due to insufficient storage (which is untrue because there's plenty of storage) the same happens for screen shots sometimes but a restart of the phone fixes this on both occasions.

If it's stock then you're on the correct firmware, have you tried factory wiping the device??
If you have then it could be a faulty phone as this does sound pretty unique, i've never heard of it before.

I haven't tried a factory wipe yet. Was hoping to exhaust all other options first just in case the lost photos are recoverable some how. But if that's my only option left I might just contact HTC about it.
You could be having an SD card issue. My SD card has been replaced and formatted more than once. My pix disappear, and my music disappears. I use a ringtone from my music folder and my phone keeps un-mounting my sd as if it's not in the phone. I know when it happens because my notification and ringtones change.

Ok so I tried getting in touch with HTC but they didn't respond to my email. I logged onto a live chat with them but I got disconnected because they finish at 6pm.
Then I decided to just format the SD card. I figured if I haven't been able to recover those lost pictures by now, I never will be. Besides the phone was getting worse. I could no longer take pics through Instagram and an HTC software update wouldn't download because apparently my phone storage was "read only" which isn't true.
Any way I formatted the SD card twice and set it only for storage not for installing apps and the phone seems to work fine now. I can actually select phone storage in the camera app now where before it wasn't an option. I also no longer get errors when saving screenshots. The whole thing was so weird I'm just glad it seems to be ok now.
Thanks for all your help and advice.

Internal pics taking an age to load in gallery/File explorer after transfer

Hi, wondering if anyone can help. I moved over to an S20. Before doing so, I copied all my whatsapp media/any pics saved on my internal SD off my old s9 onto my pc, and then transferred them back to the new phone. So far all good. All my pics are there. The problem is, when I open the gallery, it takes an age to load them. The same thing when I navigate to the folder in file manager. ok there's over 30k pics, but it shouldn't be an issue if it works fine on the old phone.
I also noticed that the ".thumbnails" folder isn't being created within DCIM, or anywhere for that matter. Not sure if it's linked or not. Anyways, the phone internal storage is a lot quicker than my old s9, so it can't be a speed issue. Any ideas what I can do? Media storage only shows as using 100mb. I was going to try clear the data for Media Storage, but on Android 11 it seems to be greyed out. I tried adb shell pm clear com.android.providers.media but that doesn't do anything
Anything I can try or any recommedations?
Sympathy bump
Scope storage? It's so secure... yeah whatever.
I also noticed weirdly that if I take the ad card out, it loads a crap load quicker.
