Hello,
Never had any issues with my G3 in the year ive had it until now!
Basically I've checked my storage as my 16gb internal seemed to be incredibly low (especially since I store everything on my SD), I then realised I had a huge 8gb +/- taken up under Misc - system data. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to reduce this size.
On Samsung phones you can enter the hidden menu and wipe dumpstates and logcats but cant find the option on my d855 hidden menu.
I've flashed a bunch of ROMs and done resets etc but the problem persists. Any help would be great.
Using apps like System Cleaner etc etc DO NOT do anything as the problem lies in system data.
Thanks
Curtis

UPDATE
I've managed to improve my situation by doing the following;
Deleted the 'Facebook.orca' folder from my internal sd (That was a massive 4gb- but for some reason didn't come up under app data etc)
Installed FolderMount and linked my DCIM/Picture folders to my SD to give me an extra 1.5gb of internal space.

I think on the GNex the whole SD card can be used for installing apps. Google did this on purpose to cope with the "Not enough free space to install" issues one had on other handsets.
Are you on Stock ROM?
Stock Rom, I thought that was the case as well, I think I may have found the problem might be to do with restricting background data? will test and see.
Go to Settings -> Apps -> Market -> Clear Data. Try again. It's a bug likely.
There was an "out of memory" issue on Honeycomb tablets which required a device wipe to correct. I hope you get this resolved. I'd hate for this bug to be in ICS.
I understand that NAND is more rapid than sd card and differences between a2sd method, like the picture report in Amarullz thread.
I wonder if exist a method to give priority to some apps rather than others in internal storage.
I mean: for example, suppose that I have 50 apps but I frequently use 10, might be more performant put 3rd part App data and APK (and dalvik if is possible to separate it) of theese 10 apps in NAND and other datas of the other ones in SD card?
Maybe this requires also a GUI to choose apps, I can't imagine what it takes this. Sorry, maybe this idea is absurd, I don't know about programming, it's just.. an idea.

Does link2sd do that? Not sure..

Think so..
Im not sure what Amarulz is stating system apk's are in those pictures, but to me they are always on NAND, so those pictures are probably specific to one of those sense roms for cm7 that have to export system app to ext to fit....
Thanks, I didn't know about this. I will try it and post my impression.
Looks like a good app... but when I tried to use it I get the message at the bottom of the screen:
Insert an SD card before using the camera.
I have an SD card and the stock camera is putting its images there. I have tried switching the settings to internal to external and back and I get the same error. It obviously won't let me take a picture because it thinks there is no memory??
I have also cleared the cache, app data with the same results.
Anyone else have this problem?

Whats interesting is that it says it is designed to work with the Note 3.
I am stock rooted.

WorksForMe. Stock rooted as well. external 64GB SD is exFAT this time vs FAT32, if it matters.
Same setting, same issue, strange.
Fixed or rather, cause found which fixed it.
This was a Me problem.
So... while looking a new app that I had loaded it was having issues accessing the Internet... found that it was being blocked by Xprivacy.... hmmmm wonder if this is affecting the Camera Awesome app.... Quick check and yep... For some reason storage was blocked.
I thought I had looked for that before, but after correcting that, the camera works fine. Exploring what it can do now.
Ok so I am a firm believer on "search, learn and search until you understand"! I've been searching and haven't found much. This is the deal. I am on my 3rd replacement/refurb of this phone. We all hear that "every device is different" and I always agreed. Basically when I connect to PC in usb mode for file transfer usually I will have both internal and external sd slots available. With this refurb I can only see internal sd when phone is running regular and from recovery (agat 1.4.2) only external is viewable? How can I get both viewable at the same time again? I always run TW, tried pretty much all the GB27 ROMs and a couple different kernel options, tried a fresh 16GB and my older 32GB sd cards. I can't figure it out? It used to work no problem, not it's gone?Is this happening to others? Any input would be much appreciated! Thanks
So nobody else is are has had this problem? I'm usually pretty good at finding solutions and answers to problems, but this still has me beat!
I've had the problem before but not consistently and a reboot always fixes it.

My device was reporting only 48,9GB of storage total, even though I had just wiped everything. Is this normal?

Yes this is completely normal. This is because there are still partitions available on your device which are not visible to you eg. system , vendor, cache etc.
The Internal Storage partition availabe is for your own storage use.

Yes, Android requires space, too.
