Anyone have any suggestions for controlling music/pandora/etc when the screen is off? Ideally I would like to be able to double or long tap on volume to next/prev songs, and use the camera button to pause. I know CyanogenMod's music player apparently offers this ability, but I am using a different firmware.
Ideally I'd like to be able to map buttons functionality myself, but basic controls would be adequate. "Just Shake" in the market has the functionality to change songs by double tapping volume buttons when the screen is off, but is a paid app, or limited in the trial version. Ideally I'd like a free solution, but if anyone know of a paid option, I'd be interested also.
I am not looking for an app to control music from the lockscreen, but from the hardware buttons available on my phone.
Thanks for the help.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048287 read that someone using tasker too do that not sure If it'll work for epic
On the market there's a program called music control lite. The camera button play pause skip songs
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.seya.plugmusic
I found an app,Plug In Music Widget, which able to do the volume up to skip music, but the bad is, it is very hard to just skip 1 songs, it would skips more then 1 track..........
It works with the android music player.
additional
ok, i just install Headset button controller after the plug in music widget and Now
it does skip 1 music track, but still have some drawback, here's the setting.
Plug In Music Widget:
double click timing 0.3sec
track change using volume key: when screen off
plug out function: none
no auto start
Headset button controller:
target music app: pick you apps, i am using MymusicOn
under
right button action: single click: next track (our volume up is right button action)
the rest of the button, set to disable.
plug in action: disable
plug out action:disable
This will skip 1 songs if you double tap volume up.
The bad: I won't play songs automatically if you plug the headphone. I need to plug the headphone when the screen is off, the it would play and the other bad is
if you plug the headphone at the very beginning when screen is off, it would skip 1 song and play, basically resume last song won't work.
and don't know how to go back previous song yet.
Headset button controller does the same bit is more easily used, and more customizable, I recommend you give it a shot

So this allows you to skip songs with the volume buttons on the phone while screen is off? With stock Samsung player? Sorry I ask so many questions I can't really try it because I'm on the remastered beast mod which has this feature but I'd like to move back to a different rom that doesn't have this feature so this seems perfect.

This is the best I've personally found so far, you might like it: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.purelogicapps.android.tactileplayerfree
One really annoying thing though is you have to double tap volume instead of long press. Seems like most of them are like that. I wish they'd at least make long press an option, grr.
I've tried a couple random ones from the play store none of which worked. If anyone knows an app that will allow me to do this it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I've been using Pocket Skip Track and it seems to work fine. The only issue I have is that it will only work with a single music player at a time and you can only skip ahead (not back).

I tried this app but it doesn't seem to work with Spotify. I disabled LG's shortcut keys and played around with the apps settings. When I hit volume up to skip the track the volume just goes up and down.
Looks like we'll have to wait until root. I couldn't find anything either. Only think I can suggest is using bluetooth headphones that have buttons for changing the track built in.

Also if you have wired earphones/headphones that have physical button, most players support skipping to next track by double clicking the main button. Single click pauses the track.
On a side note, I use the power amp media player which is really good, and it also has equalizer built in, (custom configurable) which is not present in either the LG music or Google music apps. You need to use an app called "Equalizer" from the play store if you need custom equalizer for other music apps.
Another option might be the little "button-thingy" that sticks into your headphone jack. I just bought one off of Amazon for $6 to give it a try.

I'll report back once I receive it.
Music Folder Player
Try Music Folder Player. I've used that for awhile. Pretty much hold down the volume button up or down and it will skip to the next song or the previous song.
poweramp has this ability built in

I need to be able to skip songs in Pandora and Spotify. Can this app do that or only for songs played with the app itself? Thanks.
I really want to know

Oh OK. Didn't know you were trying to do that. No that app is just for songs you have in your storage. Sorry.
Just got my pressy (knockoff) button and am happy to report that it DOES work with Spotify. I'm using the app Key Cut and a double press input to skip tracks. It also works with all of the other media players I have tried thus far (Poweramp, Google Music, LG Music). Since I stream most of my music through bluetooth it is a good solution for my needs but not sure if this will help solve your problem.
i really want to know ,thank you !
Might be something in xposed

I figured either gravity box or wanam for lollipop would work. I just wasn't sure what the UI the G4 would fall under, AOSP (gravity box) or more like TW (wanam); as I don't have the phone yet. I know wanam is for Samsung stock roms but I've used it on other custom roms too. There's also a standalone module called Physical Button Music Control by XspeedPL.
GravityBox works for the most part. Sometimes it won't skip tracks but a reboot fixes it.
The xposed module "Physical Button Music Control" is by far the best option. It works every time without fail whereas gravity box is hit or miss. Plus you can program the volume keys and power button to do more than gravity box can.
Hi, check this app in this thread, it has volume buttons skip tracks with single or double click:

I second this one here, I have tried quite a few, and this one works by far the best, albeit still not perfect.
I am using my iPhone headphones with my oneplus 5T and when I try to skip to the next song on spotify by double tapping the play/pause button on the volume rocker in the cord of the headphones like I have on my iphone and other android devices, it just skips to the next song but does not start playing as says the next song is paused.
Now I have tried the apps from the android app store that add these gestures but same result as above.
Is this due to me using an iPhone headphone on an android device? Something to do with a setting in spotify? I've also read that this is not a feature for oxygenOS? I've also noticed that using the volume up/down does not adjust the volume as well. I know oxygen OS offers gestures to change to the next song but I do not want to do that if my phone is in my pocket.
This is very frustrating when I have my phone in my pocket at the gym and need to skip to the next song. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi,
does anybody know a key mapper which is capable of skipping music tracks via the volume keys on the lockscreen? I tried @flar2 Button Mapper but it doesn't seem to work for now (my P6P is rooted). Don't know if I could live without it
Thanks
Some of the music apps I use have that built-in capability for volume keys to skip tracks on the lock screen, but I don't stream music, I keep it all in local FLAC format. I use GoneMad, PowerAMP, and Rocket Player. I know I've seen the option in at least one or two if not all three of those.
I know that's not what you asked, but I just wanted to share that in case it helped. I'm sure there will be a solution eventually (stock-based ROM, etc).
