[Q] How to develop themes? - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I have been searching for a black and white theme for the quick settings and have failed to do so. Is there any way someone can teach me how to make one? I have a lot of experience with graphic design. Also is it possible to edit the system ui to change the colors of the settings pdf and other bright white pages? I dont mind working on that either.

Try starting here:

If you get it made please share it.

Sorry to revive a month old thread, but is there an easier way? I don't want to install all those things just to make a single theme for myself.

You'll be able to change most of the graphics, but and XML editing requires the decompiler.

no but they have gifs in the thread I linked in the OP. They are said to work with Desire and Evo series phones, and for function on non HTC phones all thats needed is some filename switching (from the little that i read)
This would be really awesome if someone could get these ported over.
Doesn't seem too hard. I will take a crack at it in a bit.
tried it with this beta theme i flashed but it didn't work. Not sure why. Maybe the drawable xlms need to be modified?
Looks really cool, gl to anyone who tries to get this done Would be awesome for sure.
Its just a copy and paste with probably some renaming of the images..... doesn't seem hard to incorporate at all.... I could do it but I don't know how to make a flashable zip but I could just move it to a aosp theme

I tried it. I didn't bother checking every single file name to see if they match but they all look familiar to me. you can google how to create flashable zip. I just used a theme and replaced all the icons but like i stated, it didnt work. I have swapped out icons many times before so I am sure the file names had variation.
Well did any icons copy over to the theme and flash right? That's what I do is just tweak the icons in the Res folders of the framework apks in themes and roms..... it must be conflicting names like you said.... ill take a look at it here soon and see what it is.... ^_^

[Q] Themes?

I've been trying to figure this out, but being that Android is so modular, is it possible to theme easily like it is on the iphone? With winterboard, I was able to just restart the app and the images would take effect. I haven't found if this is possible with Android. Maybe I'm missing something.
I've tried Morphology and I could do it that way, but every change I make I have to re-flash that part.
Is there an easier way?

Not really if you wanna do it piece by piece. Morphology is about the best you'll get.
you're other option is to get themes from here or the market which can be apply with the theme chooser.

So the apps don't use resources from systemui, or a central location i'm assuming?

Cobalt theme / Softkeys

I like a lot, this theme
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dustinb.theme.cobalt&hl=en
It's my favorite one. But i don't like the softkeys buttons. I tried to change them with SoftKeyZ / GravityBox / Xposed Installer, i mean i tried everything i could but no result.
The softkeys buttons i'd like looks like those :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vicino.theme.FlatronBlue&hl=en
Would you explain it to me, please, how to change them, but keeping the Cobalt - CM9/CM10/CM11 Theme ?
Thanks in advance.

Maybe decompile both themes and replace corresponding icons? Not hard to do actually, but may involve copyright issues especially if the theme is a paid one...

As far as only replacing corresponding pics in the theme's APK files, I think WinZIP/WinRAR might already be enough.
You could upload the themes somewhere and I'll check it out tomorrow (it's 11PM here in China), no guarantees though

I'm going to turn this thread in to a tutorial instead, given the number of downloads and thanks received it's not really worth the effort these days of modding and testing which is twice the work for me as I theme them to suit my own theme too.

To change apps from light to dark you need to edit the styles.xml in the values folder of whatever app you want to mod, decompile one of mine and compare it to your stock and that will be your starting point, the rest is usually in the layouts folder and/or pngs to suit. There's a few links in my APK Modding & Theming Thread that will help too.

[REQUEST] Latest Stock Lollipop Full Black UI: it's possible?

Hi,
I'm ask here a thing: it's possible on the latest stock lollipop ROM by Sony 14.6.A.1.236 rooted to have the full black UI for System UI (Settings, call, message...)
Because I'm true annoied by the white of lollipop, and since the "night" mode isn't available on 5.1.1 , there is a way to obtain something similar?
I've inverted some screenshots from my phone for example (attached below) in my opinion true black it's wonderful for settings, phone UI and so on...
tell me which are yours opinions...and if there is a way to obtain this.
Long ago i flashed a zip you have to look for yourself.

Dark res by Xperienced - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2642634
Be aware: 1) options in thread for stock nav bar or 4 button, 2) white borders around dialog boxes, (I didn't like, so I replaced with apktool), 3) some instances where you get light-on-white text, (you can fix if you know what files to change).
Besides that, Abo Hani has made some dark mods - http://forum.xda-developers.com/son...s/mod-dark-dark-light-systemui-14-11-t3248507

Nothing wrong with giving someone a push. It's not lazy to ask for help, but when you get it, use it... It's good to give that benefit of the doubt at first.

The spirit of a forum, first of all, is to give support.
In any case, when a person answers someone, it's because he thinks he can help that user... and the same is when one guy asks a question here.
Even though trivial, even if stupid, if one wants answers, helps a person that have dubt.
For years I have joined this forum, it's the perfect place to start from scratch and can always find someone who responds and helps you.
When I can, I do the same. If I know something, I answer and share. Because knowledge need to be shared.
Regarding this question about dark mod in particular, I was allowed to open a thread because I wanted to do a bit of clarity on this: there are several open threads, but with regard to the various problems or encounter glich graphics, are scattered in various discussions, and for me dispersive.
About your MOD, I saw that you updated the OP, and therefore the fact that it is compatible with the latest system update. So, thank you very much for this.
On KK, I use a xperia theme that do the magic by <i>Emperor.dk</i> (according with SuperUser MOD) that work very well.
For Lollipop, the situation it's more complex...for this I wonder if at present, it was possible to do the same with Lollipop.

In any case, Thank you as always for all the availability and responsiveness. Thanks so much.
It would be nice if we could bring to Lollipop 5.1.1 the possibility of the "night mode" ... for me it would be wonderful.:fingers-crossed:
thank you all for the effort you put, the effort and the work to achieve all the MODs who are happy to use.:good:
