[Q] Verizon LG G Pad VK810 Secure boot error. No TWRP - G Pad 8.3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Before posting I tried looking through every thread after I searched for this but it seems that there was always TWRP to fall back on.
Here's my problem thus far. Rooted my G Pad on Lollipop successfully. Followed this guide after rooting, to install TWRP recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g-pad-83/general/vk810-altev-complete-root-recovery-t3108260
Followed the first step to downgrade the aboot to 4.2.2, then restarted the tablet like an idiot as I glanced at the wrong browser tab with a different tutorial open. I did NOT follow the second portion of the tutorial to get TWRP even installed and I'm sitting here with the Secure Booting Error in the top left corner. Cannot access download mode, factory reset, normal reboot or safe boot without getting that error. Any help here at all or is this the first time I'm SOL with a device.
UPDATE!
Managed to actually get it into download mode after 20+ tries of just rebooting and trying. Will update if I can successfully reflash with LG Flash Tool or not.

You should be able to flash it no problem since you're in Download mode. FYI, although it doesn't work all the time, someone in my ROM thread found a way to flash aboot (for instance, to flash the Lollipop aboot so you could get back into the ROM) from Fastboot mode. That is, they found a way that sometimes works to get into Fastboot mode.
Also, there's a chance you could perform the required steps to get TWRP installed via ADB with the tablet in Download mode. Not sure, though, since I haven't tried it.

I can certainly experiment, now that I've realized I can fall back on download mode if things go wrong. Flashed the Lollipop KDZ with no problem in download mode so at least the tablet is up and running to take another crack at. Thanks a ton for actually having those KDZ's so readily available being linked in your signature.

Ended up just downgrading to 4.2.2, using towelroot, and loki_flash\twrp. Enjoying CM12 now. Will probably update the original post with instructions in case someone makes the same mistake as me for some reason.

I'm Having the Same Issue
I cannot get download mode to work. Just the Lg symbol, and secure booting error in top left.
I charged it overnight, plugged into a wall, with it off.
Held both vol keys while off, and plugged into cpu using the original/undamaged cable. Tried a different cable that also works, and tried plugging it into the computer both ways (OFF and plugged in the computer first, then the tab, and vice versa.)
Was there any other trick you had getting into DL mode???
Any help is appreciated.
UPDATE: So i left the tablet plugged in, and just kept rebooting it, and held just power and vol up, and now, in a barely visible screen, it says download mode, but my computer thinks there's nothing connected. With 2 different cables, and 2 different flash tools saying this, even with correct drivers installed.

Hi, glad you at least found out the right button combo for Download mode. Can you be specific about the drivers you installed? Were they "LG_VZW_United_WHQL_v2.22.0.exe"?
Try rebooting after installing the drivers, with the tablet unplugged from the PC. After the reboot is finished, put the tablet in download mode and plug it into the PC. It can take up to 10 minutes to load the drivers once you plug it in. Use a USB 2.0 port preferably. Of the two cables you tried did you use the original cable? That's preferred, also.
You can look in Device Manager in Windows and see if the driver is still loading for the Android device listed under the "Modem" section. If after 10 minutes it still hasn't loaded the driver, try a different USB port. Lastly, if you need to, try a different PC. I know it's possible you don't have easy access to a different one, but sometimes that's the solution.

SAMSUNG epic 4g stuck on boot screen after trying to restore Stock Rom

I was running CM10 but I got a message whenever I got into the Camera App that said "Unfortunately, Gallery has stopped working", after a research in here I found that I wouldn't get that msg again if I installed this "gapps-jb-picasa-20121011-signed" thing.
I did, but when I got into my Camera App, I didn't have the other options like "Image Effects" and all that stuff.
So, what I did was to Restore my phone from my BackUp folder that I've created before installing CM10, but for my surprise I got a msg saying "VolumeError" or something like that and other things that I can't really remember... and as a good Mexican that I am, I ignored it and hit the Reboot System Now..
What happened next almost made me cry...
I was expecting to get in my stock rom without any problems and yadda yadda but... OH SURPRISE!
I got stuck on the boot screen, where it says "Samsung" and the website of it and I didn't freak out... I waited like 5-6 mins and took the battery out. When I turned again, I tried to get in Recovery Mode but the screen just kept turning off and on and saying the exact same thing, the "Samsung" logo and it's website.
I hope you can help me and please answer me. I don't know if I'm 1000000% screwed but I will only wait for the worst. Sorry for my bad english and don't hate me for being mexican
I don't know if I can get into my phone from my PC but whenever I plug my phone in, it just loads it as if it was in Charging Mode
PLEASE HELP ME!
I BEG YOU!
Flash again CM10 with wipe data, cache, dalvik
If still stuck

Like @dropple said, it seems you stuck "SAMSUNG" and in this case you can't get into recovery so you can't flash CM10 as of now. Go find some tutorials and Odin back to stock via download mode. Then install CWM recovery if you want and do whatever you like. Should get you outta trouble.

Thanks to Everyone!
I solved this like 2 hrs after all this happened.
I got it by Odin. I couldn't go into Recovery Mode, but I got in Download Mode and do it by Odin.
Sorry, I'm a n00b to all this.
Greetings from México and thanks for all your support.
Here's a weird one for you,
Same thing as OP stated. Device is stuck on logo. Can't get into CWM. Was on People's Rom. Device was lagging really bad. Then the system requested superuser permissions. Yes the system requested. Being as I did not request it, I declined. Shut the device down to see if that would help with the extremely bad lag (i mean BAD lag. Like..........................ok it does something then.......................................................................ok it does something else. 10-20 seconds lag)
Connect device to computer to Odin back to Stock or whatever ROM would have worked, computer recognizes device..... wait for it.......
But in download mode Odin does not see it. Com Port will not illuminate. Tried 3 different cables. Tried 6 different USB ports on computer. Still nothing.
Any ideas, because I'm all out?!?
To the OP:
I would follow the instructions in this video from the part where qbking77 talks about putting the phone in download mode, as you presumably did when you first rooted your phone. Download all the files linked/referenced on the site, especially the Samsung mobile drivers, Odinv3 1.87, CWMRecovery, and the deOxed versions of the stock ROM. In sum:
1) get into recovery mode by holding onto the volume down, camera buttons, and then without letting either of those go, press and hold the power button.
if you get into recovery mode, skip to step 4
2) while your phone is completely off, hold onto the "1" button on the slide out keyboard first, then without letting the 1 button go, press and hold the power button until you're in download mode.
3) flash the version of Clockworkmod
4) once in recovery mode, wipe your phone, clear the cache, and dalvik cache, and then flash the deOxed version of the stock ROM

Do you have the mobile drivers installed on the computer you're trying to connect your phone to?
Yes. The drivers have been installed previously. The computer will see the device as "Samsung SPH-D700 Card USB Device". But Odin3 1.85 will not see it.
EDIT: When I put device into download mode and connect to computer, the computer only sees it as "Gadget Serial".

can you get your D700 into download mode as described above?
Yes I can get into download mode but without Odin recognizing the device (not computer. The computer recognizes the device) there is not much I can do.

Try to install another version of Odin or getting Odin from a different server.
My phone is fully recovered and now I'm only SuperUser 'cause I don't want any CM by now.
Greetings from Mexico!
I'm using the same version of Odin I used to root the device. Would a different version really help and if so, what version to use?
I actually have a different version of Odin I used for another device and tried that one as well, with no luck.
EDIT: I have now downloaded and tried 4 different Odin programs with no avail. Again, that makes 6 Odin programs, 6 different USB ports, 3 different cables with the same exact results. The computer recognizes device but Odin will not.

Had a simular issue when I had two odins on the same computer, for a lark and as I had nothing better to do, tried installing drivers and one version of odin to a vertual machine running vista and checked to see if my computer's vertual machine would reconize and it did, I took it as a sine that at one point I had done something to my computer's main os sometime between rooting my epic 4g and frying it (recovering from a backup from a different parition layout I think, bad times with bootloops and seeing way to much of the samsung logo.) So as I'm not brave enough to run odin on vm I instead removed all of odin from my main os and all of the samsung drivers, then reinstalled rebooted and repluged my epic in, got reconition and reflashed with plesure.
The other issue might be that your computer is reconizing the device and try/failing/hanging and not allowing odin in. Had an issue when my computer was failing to pop up a 'what do I do with this' window and hanging round in the system. A reboot with the internet unpluged strangely solved that for some reason, might be the reboot might be the combo, but I find better connection reconition with my computer when I've fewer things connected.
Don't mind the spelling to much I clean up with my other device.

One question I noticed that hasn't been asked is when you plug the phone into the computer while the phone is on, is usb debugging checked? If not, check it, and reinstall drivers again.

Phone does not boot past the "Samsung - www.samsung.com" logo. Plus, as with all of my devices, USB debugging is always checked.
Thanks for the suggestion though. Always helps to double check things.
I believe I am going to take it to Sprint tomorrow.

I know I've been in your boot problem situation and recovered, it just took persistence and eyenumbing amounts of reading.
Note On the multiple Odin, USB, and driver installation: if you've access to another computer it could be worth wile to run once though on a previously virgin computer, meaning your phone and computers' USB's have never touched. Just do the installation, rebooting, and plugging in exasperatingly meticulous order.

Yep tried the "virgin computer" computer as well. The computer sees the device but Odin does not. Com light will not illuminate.
Sounds grim.
So to rap up all the cables, plugs, computer, and software with odin is out of the debug process.
So I did some digging into the past and if your computer is reconizing and odin is not then ADB (android debug bridge) and the sdk are the other option

Ran across this and it might just be what you need. Its not quick but it has worked for me in the past.
The other thing that may work is ejecting the sd card and battery before doing anything. Though its likely something you've already tried.

Bizarre sudden death.

I'm quite perplexed. I was using my p600 today, and it worked fine like normal. Tonight I took it out to do some reading, and noticed some flickering streaks across the screen. I thought nothing of it, and did a reboot.
It turned off, but never rebooted. The back and menu buttons flashed once, and then went dark.
I've been trying without success to get it to boot for a half hour, nothing. There is no response to plugging it into a charger, and my computer does not recognize it as being plugged in. (Currently have no access to windows, so unsure of ODIN).
I was running Tamasek's unnoficial 18.1 build at the time.
Any ideas. Would greatly appreciate any help, even just to get some notes off if it is indeed dead.
while plugged into charger (to rule out it hasnt died while youve been messing with it) long hold power button... i forget if its 10 seconds or 30 seconds. same sorta thing happened to me on temasek, flicker screen but then it died itself, and i got a response from my tablet by long power button hold. not sure if we had same cause but thats what worked for me

Doesn't seem to work for me.
Update:
Holding the power button gives no response, no matter the length of press. However, apparently randomly it will turn on, as the back and menu buttons will light up. If this happens I am able to successfully connect to a computer and view files. I was able to connect to ODIN, however since I am unable to get into download mode I am unable to do anything.
If it is in the state where the buttons are lighting up and I then try to boot it it turns off and is completely unresponsive.
Any ideas? Is there a way to remotely boot into download mode?
Cheers

When lights come on, attach to computer and run the command adb devices... if you dont know about adb then there is plenty of info on the net about it. If adb devices gives you a response (which it will if yoi are able to view files on yoir device then that means you will get and adb response as long as you set up the adb program correctly) then run adb reboot download and then youll be in download mode and flash with odin

I am unable to get the p600 to show under adb devices. However, adb does work successfully for my nexus 6 so it appears to be generally working.
This is on mac, so I don't believe it could be a driver issue. I spent a good while trying to get adb working on windows with no success for either device (killed and restarted adb server, tried reinstalling drivers, different cables, etc).
Frustrating, because the p600 will connect fine to the computer, and I can view files and interact with it. Odin also recognizes it.
I appreciate the help, and any further ideas.

Hmm i guess its not in download mode then... the only thing i could think of is that for some reason it keeps booting to recovery mode which would make both adb and odin not work. Although idk why youd have a blank screen cuz that doesnt tend to happen for recovery. When the menu buttons light up, do they give you haptic feedback (do they vibrate)? If so, maybe you recently dropped it and the ribbon cable for screen beca,e disloged. Id stilll see if you get any responses from ppl who know more than me before you go pulling your tablet apart tho.
The only other thing i could think of to tell you to do is to keep trying to access download mode by holding the appropriate buttons during boot and then try to flash stock with odin. Sorry, i dont know enough to give any more advice from here

Thanks man, you may have just solved it, I feel like an idiot. I hadn't considered that the ribbon cable might be loose, and as I was examining it with a bright light I could see items on the screen. Was successfully able to boot into download mode and flash the stock rom, the screen issue was not solved, but I think it flashed alright.
When I have some time I'm going to take off the back and check out the ribbon cable.

The ribbon cable coming loose is a very common issue on this tablet (even without dropping it) as it's connected rather poorly. Fortunately it's also relatively easy to fix as per the below:
Fixing Note 10.1 2014 ribbon cable
Especially the screen flickering when it "died" sounds familiar.

[HELP]Black Screen on VK810

I'm not that familiar with LG devices (usually messing with Samsung) so hope I didn't just brick this thing. The device is a VK810 and before flashing was rooted w/stock 4.4.2 on it and stock recovery. Installed TWRP, performed wipes of system, data, internal, and format in preparation for new rom. Then flashed this stock rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-...-stock-rooted-lollipop-rom-int-g-pad-t3079312 and then flashed SuperSU. Rebooted but system never comes up. Nothing. Not boot screen, LG logo, nothing. Device was at 97% battery before flashing and have tried plugging into power cord and holding down combination of buttons. Cannot get into download mode or anything else. When the device is plugged into the PC via USB I hear it connect and when holding the power button it will disconnect and reconnect in a loop. However, the screen is always black.
Tried this also with no luck so far:
rockbigdave said:
Although I didn't try and flash what you did, I wasn't able to put mine into Download mode to recover it either and only received a black screen! Turned out it was just ridiculously low on charge. I knew it was 'working' because with a USB cable in to the PC and holding the power button on the tab it was making connect and disconnect noises. Your best bet is to plug it into the mains charger and hold the power and/or power + vol down (I'm not sure what worked, I did a combination) until you get an LG logo. when you get to that, let it charge fully. (You should see the battery logo on screen)
Shouldn't have a problem once it's fully charged.

So is this tablet a brick now or is there a way to recovery? Not sure how just flashing a rom/kernel bricks a tablet and prevents the screen from coming on. The bootloader did not get updated or messed with as far as I know.
Hi. Sorry to say but you flashed a ROM for the V500 international variant of the G Pad 8.3, which is incompatible work the VK810.4G variant. There's a third variant, the V510 as well.
Even if the screen is blank does the PC indicate the right entry in the tablet in the Modem section, if you go through the motions of putting the tablet in Download mode, which are to have the original USB cable into USB 2.0 port, with the tablet completely off (hopefully), press and hold the Up Volume button and while holding it, connect the other end of the USB cable to the tablet. You should be able to let go of the up volume button now.
Then try LG Flash Tool 2014 with the 11A KDZ from my signature. 11A is both easiest to root and to install TWRP. If you get that far you can flash my ROM from my signature, make sure you have TWRP updated to v2.8.7.0 before doing so and follow the directions on the OP of my ROM thread.

Unfortunately pressing any button and plugging in the USB cable shows nothing on the screen. The PC chimes when it is connected and disconnected but that is all. Can't remember if there is a charging light on the tablet but when plugged into the wall charger nothing lights up. If the tablet is plugged into the PC and power button pressed it will chime connect and disconnect in a loop.
I realize now the rom was not for this version but wish someone could tell me how just flashing a rom/kernel combination (with no bootlooder changes) causes the tablet to not even power on. Doesn't make sense. Will probably have to send it in for repair cause it seems I've tried everything.

I realize now the rom was not for this version but wish someone could tell me how just flashing a rom/kernel combination (with no bootlooder changes) causes the tablet to not even power on. Doesn't make sense. Will probably have to send it in for repair cause it seems I've tried everything.

I haven't downloaded the ROM so I don't know what it contains. Are you sure it doesn't contain a bootloader? Did you look inside the zip to see if there's an aboot.img in it? On the VS985 G3 (and my VK810 ROM which I based on @hsbadr 's JasmineROM), all stock based ROMs contain the proper bootloader.
On @xdabbeb 's VS985 v2.0 ROM, the bootloader is in the bootstack flashable zip and not in the ROM zip, but the instructions are too flash the bootstack zip too.
There's other partitions than the bootloader that would cause a catastrophic issue sick as your experiencing. Why exactly? Can't say other than simply that the ROM contains partitions made for another device, they're incompatible and therefore makes your device not work at all.
I figured your only option would be to have it repaired. You could say it happened while or after using the official LG recovery tool under Windows.
Okay, I went ahead and downloaded the ROM. As you said, it doesn't contain a bootloader but it does have the rpm and tz partitions. According to rpm = elf binary/power management, tz = elf binary/QCom trustzone secure exec[/QUOTE]
I would guess that those two would totally hose being flashed on the wrong device if the kernel doesn't. Just a guess, though.

I see your point but even with the wrong kernel a tablet should charge when turned off. Should be no software running whatsoever to prohibit that.
Anyways, I sent the tablet back to LG for repair. They stated it has a charging issue. Should be getting it back soon and will for sure flash the correct stuff on it this time.

I disagree. When Android devices are off, and you plug them in to charge them, at least for a bit when the battery charging animation loads and runs, something is running, and the files used for that device off battery charging animation are located with the rest of the Android system files.
Cool, hope you have as good experience with their RMA service as I did.

trying to root note 10.1-2014, odin won't connect

here's what I did so far: (pc is using win10pro and original samsung USB cable, swapped with 2 other cables)
put tablet in odin mode, plugged a cable in to tablet and pc, ran odin. odin refuses to recognize the tablet. no error messages, but no com port number comes up. I've downloaded new drivers and installed them several times. when tablet gets plugged in, win10pro comes up with "USB device not recognized." perhaps part of the problem?
looking for the braintrust's advice. tried searching, but my google/bing-fu has fummed...

perhaps that's the trick. I'll try it. the instructions I was looking at didn't mention that.
ugh. I was able to connect to the tablet, but it just won't root (as far as I can tell). I'm on 5.1.1 on the sm-p600 wifi (lt03wifi). debugging is on. odin connects, I use the CF-Auto-Root-lt03wifi-lt03wifixx-smp600.tar.md5 file, and eventually it resets and I get "pass" from odin. the tablet reboots, I get the red "seandroid" warning, the knox count is 1 (I'll take that as a badge of honor), but root checker says it's not rooted, and there's no superuser installed. I'm going to give it one more shot and see what happens.
all this because the OTA of 5.1.1 made the thing so sluggish that I wanted to grab something else to use. I've successfully rooted and re-loaded a couple of other tablets, so I though this would be easy. ugh.
meantime, any other ideas on gaining root? thanks for the help.

Nope, you did it wrong. Your method is wayyyyy outdated.
Yes, check out my instructions here. Very easy.

cool beans. I'll try it tonight. thanks for the info. unlike my other tablets, there seems to be so much confusing information out there for this tablet. I'm grateful this forum exists...
I don't know what's happening, but something is still wrong. I'm still not rooted, even with following your instructions.
all the "prep" is cool. in "execution" I flashed the full 5.1.1. all is good.
then I flash TWRP. from there it goes sideways. when I hold the vol-up+home+power buttons, it goes to the opening logo (I do see the "SEAndroid" warning on the screen), but it then goes blank, and the logo/warning returns. this happens as long as I hold the buttons. when I let go, the battery gauge comes up. try the key combo again, the same sequence occurs. it seems I never get into TWRP. I did once get to all-red-blue-yellow text "Android Device Recovery" where you use the volume and power keys to select options, but that didn't look like TWRP to me and wouldn't flash anything not "officially signed."
what's supposed to happen when I flash TWRP? what does odin show? do I have to wait for "PASS?" how do I get to the key combo before the tablet reboots? should odin not be set for "auto-reboot" when flashing TWRP? do I flash the compressed TWRP tar file, or do I extract the contents of the tar before flashing?
by the way, I'm trying to use the original non-touch TWRP in your instructions, not the TWRP-touch version.
can you please expand on the execution of this procedure a bit more? my swiss-cheese, colander-like brain isn't grasping something somewhere. thanks...
nevermind. I got it. the fifth try I guess I was fast enough to get to the key combo before it booted.
again, thanks for the help...

On latest OTA update, rooted with kingroot, now on SuperSu, stuck in booting at LG

LG gpad 8.3 vk810 . After installing a tweak for gaming graphics I stupidly bricked my tablet. Im new to rooting and android in general. The device gets stuck at LG symbol. I've tried clearing cache, and factory reset through holding the power and volume down. From what I've seen the next step would be to get it into download mode and use a LG utility, but I cant get it into download mode, also I imagine I need the right firmware once I do, Im very confused and just want to be able to use my tablet again. Thanks in advance.
Hi, did you look at my stickied guide for the VK810 in the General section?
Until you manage to get it into Download mode, there's nothing else to try. Perhaps some of the info I have in that thread will help you get that far.

In the General section, there's four "stickied" threads at the top. The thread I'm referring to has the title "[VK810.4G] [altev] most reliable way to root and install a custom recovery " and I also link to in my signature below.
I did look at it, I couldn't really find help there, truthfully I don't know what's going on even more than before haha. I cant get into download mode even by holding volume up and down then plugging in the usb, it just goes to the charging screen. Hell I wouldn't even mind no longer having root, I just wanted to be able to make use of my tablet while I'm still on contract till November. But thank you for the help. I believe I'm going to be using it as a paper weight until I can cancle that line through Verizon.

On the VK810, you don't hold both Volume buttons to get into Download mode. With the tablet off, you hold the Up Volume button only while plugging it into a PC's USB 2.0 port with the original cable. Keep holding the Up Volume button for a few moments and you should see the extremely dim "Download mode" logo in the center of the screen. Sometimes it's barely noticeable.
You already had the drivers installed, right? Then reboot the PC after installing the drivers.
The first time you plug the device in Download mode to a new USB 2.0 port, or can take up to 10 minutes for the PC to load the driver. You'll see the tablet listed in Window's Device Manager in the Modem section.
Pretty sure my guide I mentioned also tells the way to get into Download mode.

No sir, as my instructions give in both the threads for my ROM and my guide for the easiest way to root and put TWRP on the VK810, you'll still have TWRP. The only caveat is that every time you want to switch from being able to boot the 36B ROM, you'll have to temporarily re-downgrade your bootloader (aboot.img) to 4.2.2 *again*, just so you can get into TWRP. Then when you're done in TWRP, you have to flash the 36B bootloader zip that I provide otherwise the ROM won't boot. You'll continue to still be able to get into TWRP if you forget, until you remember to flash the 36B bootloader zip.
