I have one of those anker 6 port charges capable of pushing 2.4 amps per port up to 8amps total. Even with only my phone plugged in the phone charges at 1amp or maybe a little faster. I just got a fast charger and gsam reports its pushing out 2.4 amps full. So why is a charger capable of 2.4 amps only pushing out half that?

Does the Anker 6 port charge any devices on that port/cable at 2.4? Or is it just the ZF2 that's getting the limited power?
Are all of the ports capable of pushing the full 2.4?
Seems to be more a question of the charger than it is a question of the phone.
Any reason this didnt go in the questions section?.

I had that issue and found the higher amperages require better cables. Try different cables. Also how are you getting the charging numbers?
You need a Qualcomm QC 2.0 compatible charger to get faster charging speed.
The Anker PowerPort 6 60W 6-Port USB Charging Hub Multi-Port USB Charger does not support QC2.0 (Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0). I have this exact charging hub. Here's a link to the charging hub in question. Here's one that does support it.
Yes I understand that but if phone is capable of accepting 2.4 and the charger is capable of 2.4 I don't see why I need a special charger. But oh well I ordered one for each floor of my house

The kernel won't accept more than 1.35A for the 5.2V (or 5V) charger that doesn't support Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0, even if the charger supports 2.4A, or 20A.
If the charger supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 the kernel will accept 9V / 2A from 0-60% charge, and 5V / 2A for 61-100% charge, even if the charger supports more amps.
It's just like charging it via USB 2.0, and 3.0 ports. It will charge at the same rate (5V @ 500mA I believe) on any port even if USB 3.0 supports 900 mA and USB 2.0 only 500 mA.

Makes sense. Kinda lame that I can't get faster on regular chargers but oh well I now own 3 quick chargers for in a pinch

I am trying to figure out which is the fastest charger, wired or wireless for the Nexus 5. To do this, I suggest we gather measurements about the charging speed for the phone charging when it has less than 75% charge.
My results are the following so far:
T-Mobile dual usb wall charger 700-800 mA
this ebay Qi charger [1] 200-300 mA

Note that the T-mobile dual USB charger was the power source when using the Qi charger and the same microUSB cable was used in both cases.

Also, I am using the Elixir 2 app to measure the mA, is there an alternative that does not require the screen on (I feel that it may affect the measurements)?
The one that outputs more mah will charge faster.

They're both awful outputs u need at least 1000 mA / 1A output. You can damage the battery with underpowered charge rates

Guys, for the wired chargers, we are not talking about the STATED MAXIMUM OUTPUT here, we are talking about the output IN PRACTICE. Most chargers are rated for instantaneous output (it can output 1A or 2A or whatever is listed on the charger, but only for a millisecond, then the rate will fall off).
Please use the app and let me know what your rates for wired charging are (not that the rates fall off when the device is charged more than 75%, so try to test when the charge is lower than that). I bet the rate you find will be lower than 800mA, but if this is not the case, I am curous on the charger and cable that you use.
As for the wireless charger, I know it is very very bad, am trying to return it.
A poor/cheap usb cable will make a massive difference too. I once had a cable that wouldn't let more than 384mA through it!

Exactly! This is why I picked the cable I am using now, but I could not get over 900mA with this combination of cable + charger. The Charger is a T-mobile dual USB 3A charger and in my opinion it is very good.
The stock wired charger is rated for 1.2A and actually charges at just over 1 A. The charging chipset in the phone limits charging to 1.5 A max.
The nexus wireless charger charges at 750 mA max. Bad positioning and cases will reduce wireless charging efficiency though.

I've noticed that during wireless charging my phone will charge at 500-600mA up until 85-87% and after that it will charge at 300mA to 100%, so make sure when you are testing to test at lower battery capacity. Also, try wireless charging from a USB port of a computer, I've noticed that I got better performance form USB port than from 2A touchpad charger.

Wired charging is always going to be faster than wireless charging. Wireless charging on the Nexus 4 Orb takes about twice as long as charging via the supplied wired charger with the Nexus 5. Technology is going to have to advance quite a bit before wireless charging eclipses wired charging. There is an inherent inefficiency with wireless charging that wired charging does not have.

Apparently not, while the n5 has a sd800 which supports qc2.0 it uses a ti charging chipset or something, anyhoo if you use a 2amp charger it'll charge the phone in 70 minutes anyway.
Faux kernel charging drivers allow up to 2 amp input with the kernel and the app.
Charging chip allows up to 3AMP and 9V, but probably other circriitry can't handle that
I tried it. Got it from Amazon, the Aukey (EU) charger.
So far, been using it with a new usb cable for almost(!) a month. Satisfied.

I don't have a Quick Charge charger, but with another charger the OP3 pulls around 1.5 A @ 5V = 7.5 W from it. This is the USB compliant amount i think.
I don't think that the OP3 supports any version of Quick Charge... But with a capable charger (non-Dash) it's pretty quick, too! In my car it gains fairly quickly, even though i'm navigation with google maps and i don't have a Dash-Charge car charger! With previous phones (LG G3 for example) the phone even LOST battery capacity while being plugged in!

Just did the test by myself with the 'Ampere' app.
Battery was at 55%.
Dash Charge: 3330 mA
Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 Charger: 1420 mA
PC USB Port: 380 mA
My Nexus 6 charges at 2050 mA when connected to the Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 Charger.
Is it in some way possible to 'tweak' the OP3 so it can take 2000 mA when connected to a QC 2.0 charger?

OP3 is not quickcharge compatible so when connected to a quickcharge charger, the charger is in normal mode at 5V with a maximum of intensity that depend on the charger.
BUT the OP3 have only 3 charging step, one at 5V 0.5A, one at 5V 1.5A and then 5V 3.5A only if it's connected to a dash charger with a dash cable (or a oppo vooc with an adapter).
So for example, you connect to a 5V 1A charger, it will charge at 0.5V, like on a computer. But if it can draw 1.5A, it will do it but not above that unless a dash charger.
I tried many charger and it will not charge at another intensity.
According to ampere only the stock Lg cable will allow 3amps during charging. I have bought the 3ft powerline cable from Anker and it only gets 1.5 amps. Even dropped the money and bought Google's dual port USB c charger with cable, and still only 1.5 amps unless I use the stock cable. What's your experience? I'm just trying to get the fastest charge.

It depends on the battery percent you have. The lower, the more it'll draw. 0-40% will have the fast charging so the highest amps. That's the nature of fast charging.

I've had a nexus 5x before and own a pixel table. Both come with USB C port to charge. So i bought a itian qc3.0 charger at that time. (http://www.gearbest.com/chargers-cables/pp_389793.html)
Now i changed to the lg g6, but it refused to do the 'fast charging ' when i use that chargers qc3.0 port and even says 'slow charging' when connecting to the usb c output.
Is it the combination that's just flakey or did they put something specific in the original charger that comes with the lg g6?
I'm bit lost on the topic of chargers currently, anyone care to enlighten me on what should could would work?

Works fine with my wife's charger from her Galaxy Note 4 as well. ? (Pretty sure that's a QC 2.0 charger as well.)
Does LG not provide a qc 3.0 charger with their own phone ??

From what I can tell, my phone charges as fast if not faster using the 5V/3A charger that came with my 6P.

Off topic a bit. Thoughts on overnight wireless charging. I have a great charging cradle that I want to use but don't want phone to crack at night from hours of heat. Sony z2 and z4v had issues with that

Shouldn't really get hot once it's fully charged?
The charger that comes with it is a quick charge 3.0 charger and can completely charge your phone from zero in less than 2 hours easily. You have to use the cord that came with it though, or at least one that is compatible. If you look at the icons, you will see a different one than the usual charging icon. Pulling down the menu shows something about fast-charging when its active.
My experience comes from the Sprint version.

i use one from Tylt each night since im always on-call. havent had a problem once.
None of my QC 3.0 charger fast chagrge my G6. The QC 2.0 chargers do.
I've bought a Choetech wall usb charger, QuickCharge 3.0 with its usb type-c cable, and when I plug it on LG G6, it says that there's fast charging.

I do not believe the LG stock charger is qc qc 3.0 compatible because its fixed mat output at 9v is 1.8a
qc 3.0 defines the max amps at each voltage level from 5v to 9v to 12v
I ended up buying anker qc 3.0 chargers for my car and for ac wall outlet. also bought their nice braided usb c cable. every combination yields a fast charger notification in the drop down and the ampere app confirms this. also watching the real time output is impressive from all these chargers.
the benefit to using a certified qc 3.0 charger is that the phone will tell it exactly what amps to deliver based on charge & temp.
further, the G6 has a heat pipe to help cool the entire phone including the battery, to help prevent a galaxy note scenario.
wireless charging is slow Qi spec and is NOT fast like samsung. however, slow charging over wireless is great for overnight.
I use anker's qi charging puck and it works great except I have to remove my case. same with the samsung fast charger puck. my wife doesn't have to remove the case on her S7 to do regular or fast charging. LG's design is obviously inferior for the Qi to pickup and activate the coil.

Those who bought QC 3.0 charger and those who trying different cables with LG G6 charger, Try Cable from Oneplus 3, I get an improved charging of 10-20 minutes less compared to stock LG cable
The issue might be the cable you're using. I've had no trouble fast charging using an old ASUS QC 2.0 charger, or a cheap car QC 3.0 charger. Even when using microUSB cables with USB-C adapter tips, but I'm using decent cables (mostly Monoprice and Anker).
I've confirmed that the charger that came with my G6 is QC3.0 (model MCS-H06UR, UK 3-pin). Using a USB power meter, the voltage will increase from 5V to 9V in small steps. If I use a QC 2.0 charger (stock charger from Note4/S7edge), it will jump from 5V to 9V immediately.
