[Q] How to flash custom ROM and change kernel?

Hello All,
I want to flash my stock rom with some good custom ROM like Acronium or XperiaMod or CM7.. Can anyone give me a stepwise solution of how can I do it? Also, can anyone tell me how do we change the default kernel? What should be done first? Flashing the custom ROM or changing the kernel? Please help.. Thanks.. Sorry I checked many posts here on xdadevlopers, but I dint get a clear idea of how to do it actually..

Using search you could have found all the stuff.
Steps on how to do it:
1. Check what the ROM needs (kernel, baseband).
2. Download the stuff you need and put the ROM files on the SD card.
2. If another baseband is needed, flash it with FlashTool
3. Now flash the needed custom kernel using fastboot
4. With most of the custom kernels you get recovery
5. Boot into recovery by pressing the back button during boot.
6. Wipe cache and dalvik cache
7. Flash the ROM via install cutom zip
8. Enjoy the ROM

I flashed my arc with XperiaMod as per the procedure given.. I copied the zip file to sdcard, wiped the factory reset, wiped the cache, wiped dalvik cache and flashed. but after reboot, the Sony Ericsson page is displayed and nothing happens.. it is stuck over there Please help me out..
Are you on stock or custom kernel?

I m on a stock one.. 2.3.4 build A.0.2....42..
What needs to be done? Please tell me
I reflashed it with the help of Flashtool and the .ftf file I had of 0.42 stock rom.. now the cell is ok but I want to flash it with some custom rom.. why am I failing? I tried twice but failed twice..
You have to flash DooMKernel
Instructions are on 1st post of the DooMKernel thread

Ok, that means I need to flash the Doomkernel first and then the XperiaMod? right? anything else I need to do before that? Please reply.. thanks..
Hey, I checked Doomkernel post but I could only get the .img file and not the the modules update.zip which I need to save to SD card... From where can I get it?? Thanks.
Hello? Isnt there anyone to give answers to my questions???
Also please tell me do I need my bootloader unlocked before flashing doomkernel?
bootloader must be unlock....
Hello,
I flashed with the DooMKernel... And then flashed the rom in CWM... After the update, I started the phone but now it is stuck on booting DooMKernel.. and not going ahead... Please help...
try to flash new firmware with flashtool then use other rom like cm7 or arconium....
I'm not sure CM7 works with doomkernel. Try arconium.
If you want to try FXP CM7.2, flash the kernel packaged with it.
Be sure to wait enough time (several minutes) at first boot, it can take some time.
Maybe you have a problem with your baseband. Do you know what version you have ?
Now I have flashed the cell with the stock 0.42 rom again as my cell was not switching on at all... Now it is working fine.. But I want to have a custom rom..
After flashing with XperiaMod and even with Arconium.. I waited for almost 20-25 mins still, it was stuck at the DoomKernel logo..
My baseband version is 8x55A-AAABQOAZM-203028D-56
Can you tell me the exact steps to be followed? Like do I need to change the baseband first or Flash the DoomKernel or First the flash the rom and then the DoomKernel?
Please, tell me.. Thanks..
I didn't have any problem flashing to any custom rom so far.
To install Arconium I did the following :
- Flash to DoomKernel 0.18 (1.6 ghz one) using fastboot.
- Flash Arconium and wipe data, dalvik cache etc... using CWM
I was using baseband 64 and it was working great. As I wanted to try other basebands, I flashed with baseband 36 afterwards and apply baseband patch using CWM.
No problem either in this configuration.
Ok mate, I'll try it again.. Just tell me do I need to flash the rom first and the wipe the data, cache and dalvik cache? or how is it? also I read somewhere that I need to wipe the battery stats also? Is it?
Personnaly I flash kernel, boot on CWM, install zip packages (rom + pther if needed), wipe user data, dalvik cache and battery stats and reboot.
I can't assure you that's this order is required (I think that kernel flash just touch /boot directory, so flash kernel after rom installation must be possible), but it works for me.
Ok.. Thanks.. I'll try with this tonite and let u knw.. Also please tell me after everything is done and the cell is rebooted, for how much time we should wait for the first time?
Can't tell exactly, but less than 5 minutes for me. Maybe 2, 3 max
Hey bro, thanks alot.. ! Finally I hv succeeded! Now I have XperiaMod6 with DoomKernel.. Can u tell me what is the limit for Overclocking I can set to? I have setCPU app installed...
Cool, happy that it did it.
Do you have a xperia arc or xperia arc s ?
I didn't overclocked much my arc S : 250 MHz - 1.613 Ghz in with interactive governor (I' ve test smartassv2 but it made some application hang).

Next rom after CyanMod 7?

Hi, sory for newb posts. But this all got a bit more complicated since my HTC days!
I managed to get cmod7 working (remove apk to stop looping on boot!).
But what can I flash now with the CM kernel I have?
Or how/what kernel to flash and what ROM for best/stable device?
I see and have the Mooded rom, but do i need to flash kernel first? And baseband etc.?
All gone strange since i last flashed devices!!
Thanks !
there should be a list of suitable kernels in any rom thread. download the ROM zip to your SD card, use fastboot to boot the kernel, enter cwm and wipe data(if necessary), and flash the zip and any modules if required.

Arc S, Touch not responding after flashing CM

Hi, I bought the Arc S which was unlocked bootloader. I wanted to insataliram Official CM 9.1.0 and did everything right, flash the Kernel and then flash the ROM but but touch is not responding after the ROM boots up. I tried a few others ROM and always be the same. Touch works on some stock based ROM. Does anyone know what could be the problem?
Anyone, anything?
Where did you find it from?

I am not sure but this should work out!
Try this -
Open the rom's zip in which your touch works ( eg. JellySandwich as some guys said)
Extract these files from it! -
system/bin/cy8ctma300_fwloader
system/usr/idc/cy8ctma300_touch.idc
system/usr/idc/clearpad.idc
system/etc/hw_config.sh
Now open cm9.zip
Don't extract anything just drag these files in the same location in this zip
( eg. The hw_config.sh which was extracted from system/etc/ in Jellysandwich will go to system/etc/ in cm9's zip)
Once done
Move the new cm9.zip file to your sd card
Flash the kernel from the cm9 zip( fastboot flash boot boot.img)
Open cwm -
Factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Wipe dalvik cache
Format /system
Format /data( yes again)
Format /cache( yes again)
Flash the new cm9.zip
No gapps right now! Mind it!
Wipe dalvik again
Reboot
Report back the result
All the best!
