[Q] LG G4 GPS problems - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have H815 Eu. Everithing is OK (almost fantastic camera!). But the GPS....is necessary more that 1 minute to connect with the satellites and for that reason it is useless on the road. I have too a Sony Xperia Z1, and with this I haven't any problem: satellites in 3-4 seconds!. On my car I have this Z1 and I driven thousands kilometers without any problem.
More, G4 with GPS connected became very hot after ten minutes. What to do?
Locked LG G4, H815 Eu with iGo8.

My G4 connects and locks the satellites very quickly...1-5 secs. But when using Endomondo, ie. when running, it loses connection several times and I have to turn the screen to the sky for it to connect again... :/
Don't know yet if it's the G4 or the app that's faulty...

Since Ive rooted I am having more or less GPS problems...Have to turn it on and off and apps like Uber or even maps struggle to find the signal. Before root it was instant...

My lg g4 is bone stock, it does have a GPS issue, it will hear up the phone and you pocket and it will quickly drain the battery. Love the phone, however toggling location on and off sucks.
It will do it with no apps running, however with Rivet app using the radio it will constantly bang the GPS until the phone is hot and the battery drained.
Anyone try factory reset? Did it core or lessen the issue?

It seems that you are experiencing the same problem as described here

Probably a Problem with Google play services...

[Q] can't get GPS to work properly

I keep having problems with getting a gps fix on my DHD.
I turn on the GPS on the phone, also setting it to checked in the "Location" settings, and I wait forever. Yesterday I tried using the Compass app (By Catch.com), the GPS Status app, Tried using My Tracks and RunKeeper, and couldn't get a fix.
Every time I go back to the "Location" settings, and check and uncheck the "Use wireless networks" box, and also turn on or off the WIFI radio. But nothing seemed to work.
This morning I tried again, set My Tracks to record the road, and it did get a fix after about 5 minutes - So sometimes it does work.
I did manage to get fixes at various times, using all the apps above, but most times I need to fiddle with it quite a lot before it works, by checking and unchecking stuff. Sometimes it finally gets a fix with the "Use wireless networks" checked, and wifi turned on (even on locations where I have no wifi), and sometimes when its off.
Using the GPS Status app I see it usually finds 8-11 satellites, and they all seem green and with high bars, but I get no location at the end. Also with the Compass - I can see it connects to 10/10, but there is no long/lat.
What can cause all this mess? Is there some known bug with the gps? Or maybe some apps are interfering with others?
I also don't have any data plan (2g or 3g), so I only surf on wifi. Maybe this trows the location off somehow?
My location results are less accurate than 3g but still usable. Have you had better gps results from other devices? Your area might have some problems.
Cheers from my DHD.
When it works, it works just fine. Today on my way to work it succeeded in getting a fix after several minutes (which I still consider to be a bit too long - it should do it in less than a minute).
Last week, during a short jog outside of my house, it got a fix using RunKeeper.
Two days ago, while walking outside for well over an hour, and seeing in all the apps it finds multiple satellites, I could not get any fix at all. I want to use GPS only, no need for 3g or wifi. It should be enough (And had been enough on other occasions).
And it wasn't only defective two nights ago - many times I can't seem to get a fix. And only occasionally I get it to work properly.
I have the same problem ,i flashed a few different radios to try them and getting a gps lock was a nightmare.Originally i was on radio 26.03.02.26 and it was actually fine(shouldnt have messed with something that works.I have now flashed back to that radio and same problems.
i am sitting here with the misses hd and it instantly finds 6 sats and gets a gps lock while my hd finds one and does nothing.
i turn off gps on both phones ,turn back on and now her phone gets a lock at least 1 min faster.
Seems to be first time using gps after booting phone, once i have turned gps on give it a few mins then turn it off.I now run gps status on both phones, gps turns on and now get 2 more sats and a much lower error reading.
I have the same issues with gps, if I leave my phone flat on the dashboard of my car so that the screen is facing upwards, the gps seems to work without losing a fix, maybe because it connects to more satellites.
when I place the phone in my dash mount, it seems to drop signals and loses location.
I have tried a solution which I found while browsing the net extensively for the problem you mentioned and there does not seem to be much info on the issue. The solution I found on the net seemed to have made a huge difference although more testing is needed.
I have downloaded a program called "Tracker Booster - Tracker Booster is a small utility to help sports tracker applications (e.g. Endomondo) to get best possible GPS signal by keeping the GPS unit active in the background." It is available for free from the market, the way to use it is by starting this program up and then clicking "Start Booster" followed by "send to Background", then load GPS Status, hopefully once you see some satellites on GPS status and have a fix, you can now load your sat nav software or google maps, I use co-pilot.
Once you have finished with using the GPS, remember to stop Tracker Booster as it runs in the background and keeps your GPS on constantly which will no doubt drain the battery.
This so far has worked for me and as I have stated earlier, I need to do a few more trips before I can say that it works all the time.
I think this is the best solution until something better comes up.
This is not whats happening to me - When it's not working properly, I can't seem to get a fix at all, even after a long while. When I do get a fix, it works just fine even when the DHD is in my pocket, or facing sideways.
Has anyone one of you guys tried using gps status from android market?
Download it reset agps data than redownload agps data and that's it.
I get a fix in aprox 10s without it is few minutes

[Q] GPS slow

My Arc ROM is 2.3.3 .145 UK General, updated with SEUS. The GPS Signal comes slowly, i'm need waiting 3-5 minuten and the GPS Test sofware (http://www.appbrain.com/app/gps-test/com.chartcross.gpstest) showing 10-12 satellite but the GPS coordinaten not showing and on the notification box the gps icon just blinking and the foursquare writing: not GPS signal. Works sometimes, but was much better yet earlier the refreshing. The 3G/HSDPA switching on.
What can i do? Arc not rooting yet.
Thank you for the help.
Sorry my bad english.
And you're running it when you're outside right? Mines just taken less than 30seconds to pin point me on 145.
Sent from my LT15i using XDA App
GPS is very good,10- 20seconds to pin point me on 2.3.3 (.145)
I shutdown the phone then I took out the battery 10 sec then putting battery in the phone and switching on the phone and the gps working
What may have been the problem? I don't know
Thanks for the help

[Q] Strange Arc S signal / battery drainage problem

I bought myself Arc S, it came loaded with .62 firmware. On my initial run, battery ran for about a day, later on for two or maybe even three days. Then I started to work in another country. As far as I remember, battery life was the same, even though the network was not (where I work now is 2G only, in my home country 3G). Then one day messed around with a Xperia S apps, did a stupid mistake and started to get force closes with launcher. I had to repair software.
Since the software reinstallation, my battery life degraded to less than a day without even touching it. Therefore I installed Battery Monitor Widget, to see, what is going on. I noticed, that battery drainage is about 70-110 ma in average, as far as I know, it should be much lower (under 30ma?). I have to say, that I tested this with .62, .42 firmware and it's all the same. When I turn phone to airplane mode, energy consumption lowers to under 5ma - which is normal i guess.
It began to bug me even more, as we bought small alarm clock with radio. I noticed, that when this alarm clock is on, despite from 2 other phones our room, my Arc S is the only phone, which makes this kind of searching-for-signal or calling speaker interference (noise coming out of speaker). My phone does that all the time, even in idle mode. This can be also heard when we have our TV on on. So, if I don't want to hear that, I have to unplug the alarm clock or put my phone into airplane, which sucks.
I asked a guy next building, if he has the same problems with Arc S, and he says that his phone can live up to 5 days with one charge (is connected to the same network provider), so I guess it is not network related?
I wonder, is there a possibility, my phone's radio is broken somehow? Or it was faulty, and firmware reinstall somehow broke it to the end? So that is draining battery all the time - looking for signal? Any way to fix this? Flashing different base bands did not help, tried that already...anybody knows a fix for this, apart from returning it to my provider - since I'm 4 months away from my country
Anybody heard for any similar problem with Arc S?
Thanks in advance! (if needed, I can also post battery usage screenshot, but I think it's not much of a help)

That seems like the issue here if I'm understanding you correctly. If you don't have 3G service where you currently are, and you did not turn off 3G, your phone will constantly try and find a 3G signal.
Airplane mode fixing the issue makes this seem even more likely. Try disabling 3G and see if it helps.
Problem is, that's what I did almost instantly when I came here, I set it to GSM only. One thing I noticed right now, when I check into About phone, under Mobile network type, my Arc S has: UNKNOWN, where my friends HTC says EDGE. Maybe here lies a problem? Why my phone can't detect network type?
Incredibly, I found the reason for my drainage and signal search. When I came into that country where I work now, my provider offered me to turn off data transfer (provider turns it off for me). Of course I did not want any unintended data transfer, so I turned it off by sending sms to service number. After I reinstalled software (that was my first reboot here), phone couldn't find network type for that reason, and was searching for it all the time. Yesterday I allowed data transfer by sms again, phone found EDGE network, can't hear any more noise on our alarm clock and battery drainage is about 4% per 8,5 hour. Excellent
I hope this helps anyone out there with drainage problems.
I think you can also turn off/disable data transfer/traffic with the Data traffic widget, if you want to avoid using data.
xperia arc s
hold up, i dont understand. so im pretty sure i have the same problem. get about 17 hours with berely using my phone on any rom/kernal/firmware. even with data turned off, betterbatterystats shows 'noor unknown signal' and 'no data conection'? i sued to able to get 3 or more days out of my phone??
I think there is an application, which might be keeping the phone alive.
dout it, still drains after a complete rom wipe

[Q] random reboot while using GPS for longer time

Can anyone confirm random phone reboots while using GPS for long time? I experience it regulary. After and hour and half or two hours of using GPS (either in car for navigation, charging/not charging) or on bike for tracking (screen off) with endomondo).
I'm going slightly mad because of this. I thought initially that the phone gets overheated with charger, but it reboots even with screen off, not charging). My other guess was the navigation application, but it happens also with sports trackers (endomondo, strava). So definitely it must be a problem of GPS driver or hardware. I tried various ROMs, CM10 or .211 or .96 ports, but it happens all the time.
Does anyone have more info or in the best case a solution for this? Thanks a lot!
I gave it some more thoughts. I use GPS Status with permanent notification with status details constantly being updated. I uninstalled it today, maybe this was the issue. Please, can anyone confirm that GPS Status is the cause of problems or that GPS Status is working fine even for few hours of gps activity? Thanks
same problem
Hi,
i have two xperia ion with the same problem. When i use GPS for tracking on my bicycle with locusmaps or oruxmaps it alway reboots after a while, it works maybe 30 minutes or one hour but then it reboots. The same with Navigon navigation, always reboot after about 30 minutes. Both smartphones the same problem. Running on Android 4.1.2, i downgraded the phone to ics 4.0.4 but the problem was still the same.
Did you solve that problem??
Thanks
Peter

Frequent "GPS Signal Lost"

So weird Issue.
Using Google Maps on MaximusHD 6 with the latest t-mo firmware (2.11) I get constant "GPS SIGNAL LOST" when obviously driving and using it as my nav since I got it. I'm in southern California with a pretty good LTE signal almost everywhere. The highways are pretty open so trees, mountains, buildings etc are ruled out as a probable cost.
Now today I noticed that I normally keep the phone locked/screen off when driving since it's connected over BT so there's no real need to look at it. During a normal 15-20min drive I would get the signal lost alert a lot. Upwards of 10 or so times on that single drive. While with my M8 it never happened especially when literally not 5min after getting out of the parking lot doing maybe 20mph down the street. I first I thought i messed something up since I took the phone apart to apply thermal paste to keep it from overheating.
However today on a drive back I kept the phone with the screen on. Never did it lose signal while the screen was on, but a minute after I locked the phone (screen off) did it lose GPS signal. I turned it back on and after driving 20min or so the signal wasn't lost.
So overall has anyone experience a similar issue? Full cellular coverage with frequent google maps alerts that the GPS signal was lost. Maybe a background gps process being killed or another coming up and hindering it.
Gonna wait for the Thanksgiving break to mess around with stock/custom roms and see if it's just something that can be fixed with a reflash.
I'm having the same issue, have you figured anything out? Have you tried using a different app besides google maps to see if it's the actual app doing it's power save feature, or the background powersaving process being started by the phone being screen off? Really interested because my phone starts burning up to extreme temps...
On the backup I had with the issue I narrowed It down to possibly a background process cutting it off once the screen turns back. Power saving was off and all that would stick while screen was off was maps, Google service, and social apps.
As for the cause I couldn't figure it out. I went with a stock from without issues. Then went back to custom roms and haven't had the issue again. Also I drastically lowered my app count. Barely use any apps not needed for basic functionality.
As for the temp issue you're having. I noticed gets warm just like any other device when using GPS. I have opened up the phone and applied a new thermal coat following off a thread around here.
I have another issue came up where the phone would seek out a GPS signal while battery saving was selected to even location turned off. Killed my battery in a heart beat. Hasn't happened again.
I would suggest you make a full backup and either flash a stock rom or redownload whatever custom rom your using. Do a trial run for a day or two with minimal apps and see if it improves.
Here's where it gets interesting..
I used to own a galaxy s3 i9300 and custom kernels caused exactly the same issue. Flashing a stock rom solved it and a few other issues, one in particular was gps inaccurate coordinates.
Now I have moved to an m9. This has in the past run great. It is completely stock and untouched by curious fingers.. However, recently my gps has been running at random intervals even though it is completely off in all accessable settings. I can't find the culprit and it sapped 40% in a few minutes. It was literally a short face to face conversation, jumped back in the car and went for my phone for waze.. Dead as a dodo..
Confuzzled completely as to whether this is the actual rom doing it or an app..
I wish I stole my HTC M9.

Android 6 should be released around here soon so maybe that'll improve/fix these issues. I wouldn't be surprised if Google services is causing this since it has in the past drained batteries and causes similar issues. If the kernel is involved then the issue has been seen on both stock and custom.
well it may be a setting from the maximums HD, try using other Rom and tell us if problem is solved, try HD Revolution or ViperOne.
Hi all, I got a Moto G3 and having issues with the gps no signal message, it is on and off, but more the time that have no signal. So have heard that Android 6 could be the guilty one.. Do any of you know if there is a fix yet? ?
