[Q] Trouble Adding Custom Lock/Unlock Sounds & Ringtones To One M8 - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
Apologies for the novella below but I wanted to be as through as possible.
Been having a few problems with my M8 & I was wondering if any of you had some helpful tips.
At the moment I'm running a One M8 on 5.01 with stock Sense, Rooted with SuperSU installed & Xposed Framework & Xtended settings for tweaks & whatnot.
I'm trying to add a custom Unlock sound & having some real problems & I'm not too sure where they lie. I was hoping someone has had a similar issue.
There is a feature in Xtended Settings that allows you to modify your Lock/Unlock sound but it only allows you to select one of the stock Ringtones, Notifications or Alarms.
My plan was to just add the sound to the same location as the stock notifications however when I use any file manager with Root access to transfer the tone it will copy, show up in the Notification sound menu of the stock settings but will make no sound when its selected & will not appear in the tone list in Xtended Settings.
If I then navigate back to the Notification tone folder my custom tone will not appear, if I try to transfer the tone again it will cause my phone to hang & then reboot... It seems to me that its a problem with my phone not having access to modify files on the root of the device but surely that can't be the case due to the the modules installed requiring Root access... although I may be wrong as Windows is more of my strong point than Android.
Any help would be much appreciated folks.
Let me know if you need any more info.
Thanks :highfive:

Did you change permissions on the new sound file to match the others in the folder and reboot?

Thanks for the reply.
Yeah, I've tried doing that, when I reboot the phone the Tone disappears from my file manager & trying to copy the Tone again causes it to reboot... Baffling

CyanogenMod Notifications.

Hey there,
I recently started flashing multiple ROMs to see which one I liked best and whatnot, and I ended up staying with Fresh 3.4.0.1...
Thing is, I kinda liked the "Boing" notification sound for my texts from CyanogenMod 6.1...
Is there anyway to get them without restoring the nand backup and then copying the sound to the SD root (if I can even find/access it) and just using it on Flash after flashing the ROM again?
Any way at all? Does someone have the sound file?
thanks in advance!
Open the cm6.zip on your computer and go to:
/system/media/audio/notifications
All the sounds will be there....

For extra easiness, just copy the whole /media/ folder to your SD card's root directory. It will then automatically list the ringtones, alarms, and notification sounds in the list as if they were stock.
I like setting gmail's notification to the plastic pipe sound since it's quiet enough to not be annoying.

[Q] Zedge force closing

Hi all, relative noob here...Had a quick question regarding Zedge. I've been using this app for awhile on my old HTC Hero, and now my E4GT. Just recently, using Calk's ROM 2.7 and now 2.8.1, I've run into an issue when trying to select a Zedge ringtone or notification sound from Settings-->Sounds. When the pop up window comes up (Choose: System Sounds, Zedge) and I select Zedge, the phone freezes for a second then shows the "Zedge process force close window" and I'm stuck with system tones. Same thing will happen if I try to assign a tone from within Zedge. Some times Zedge will work, sometimes not. I've run fix permissions, but I'm still running into the issue. I've also tried using Super Manager to move my Zedge files to the system media folder, but that does nothing either. I have a couple of programs on my phone that help me control programs that are auto-starting (specifically, Android Assistant & Rom Toolbox Lite), but I don't know if those are playing a part in this problem.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Also, if it helps, I'm currently on Calk's 2.8.1 ROM with the EL13 modem and the Rogue Desperado Kernal.
Not sure why you're coming across these problems but i've found it's easier to just make a "ringtones" & "notifications" folder on my sdcard. After creating them, all sounds placed in will be available in the corresponding settings menu.

Should these folders be placed in a specific location on the sd card (media folder, for instance) or simply in the root of the sd card? Thanks in advance.

CM7 Unchangeable Ringtone

The problem I am having is the phone shows the ringtone I want and my ringtone manager app shows the correct ringtone but when the phone goes off it plays some off the wall tone that I cant seem to find and delete from the phone. ANY suggestions are welcomed.
message tone plays just fine
All stock ringtones for CM7 is located at /system/media/audio/ringtones/. Delete the ringtones you don't want. S-Off required. Or remove them from the zip before flashing.
If it doesn't play the tones you assign, make sure there are no conflicting apps working for your notification tones.
Ok so i have deleted all the files in that area and still have the problem.
I have "contact remover" app witch allows me to control my contacts on my phone and those backed up to google. Not sure if this matters or not but when adding new contacts the app automatically gives me the option to create the contact on the phone without sync or to my google account. I don't know if because I choose the backup option to google if there is something overriding cm7, i get that damn annoying ringtone and my vibrate settings are not recognized either.
Should I just erase and start over with a different mod???????? Not what I really want to do, as i am really happy with cm7 but I am seriously at my wits end with this annoying ringtone.

Actually, there is another way to do this despite S-ON.
With ADB installed, execute "adb remount". Somehow this changes the state of the system and puts it read-write mode. After executing "su", I was able to navigate down to the ringtones and notifications folders and remove all the files I didn't care to use. Worked like a charm on my HTC Hero CDMA.

[Q] Ringtone and Sounds Display Names

Files saved to the Ringtones, Notifications, and Alarm folders show up in the lists on the phone for selection, but the displayed names include a very long file path and on some screens the actual names of the sounds are not visible.
Is there any way to hide these paths and just display the file name?
Thanks.
Could you just rename the files?
Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
The file names are already only one or two words each. Android is adding the paths when it displays the names of the sounds in the UI lists throughout the OS.
I don't have this problem when looking up alarm sounds with the stock clock application. I also don't have a problem using the stock file manager nor the sound picker (when choosing notification or ringtones from settings menu)
What application are you using for this? If it is a 3rd party application the developer needs to fix the app.
It's not a problem with any app, as it OS wide with any files that I manually added to the Ringtones, Notifications, and Alarms folders. Stock sounds that came already on the phone appear fine in all lists.
Thanks

I can't reproduce the issue on my end. I also don't get the tabbed screen you placed in your first post (what app are you using for that?).
What is the model phone you have? Are you running a custom launcher? What firmware version are you using? Have you tried a factory data reset?
Have you disabled, removed or flashed something other then the original firmware (i.e. custom rom, U1 firmware to replace U firmware, etc) that came with the phone?
The first screen shot is from the Google Clock app.
I am using an AT&T branded Note 10+ (SM-N975U). The launcher is the Microsoft Launcher. Firmware Version N975USQ2BTA6. I have not done a factory reset (and don't want to).
I have not flashed anything. It is stock, except for AT&T OTA updates.

Try using the stock launcher and clock app.. your wanting to see if the issue is present with stock apps.
Granted factory data resets are not fun, but it maybe necessary in case of file corruption.
Switching to the stock launcher and using the Samsung Clock app doesn't change anything. The second screenshot is from the list of sounds straight from the Notifications screen in the OS Settings interface.
I don't think any files are corrupted, as everything is there, it's just how the OGG files are displayed in the lists that the Android uses to present the sounds for selction.

Try converting the .ogg files to (and replacing the .ogg file afterwards with the) .mp3
Same. Anything I put in those folders on the phone via file explorer show up with the entire path, regardless of format.

Question Any way to recover call recordings after update to Oxygen OS 12? (UPDATE: Solved!)

So, like the title says, I can't seem to access my call recording folder after updating to Android 12 last night. It appears to have removed my Oneplus dialer (installed as an apk and recording enabled through joneplus tools). The filepath itself (/storage/emulated/0/android/data/com.oneplus.communication.data/files/record/) doesn't show up in Solid Explorer, but I did have a shortcut created and when I select it I get Access Denied (attached screenshot).
I can't tell if the files are still there and just not accessible, or if they were deleted (surely not since its on the emulated SD card).
I've tried to reinstall the OP Dialer APK (several, actually), and they all say it won't install because it is not compatible with the phone. For reference, I am unrooted and unmodified, LE2125 model. I'm not new to rooting and modding, but this is my first OP phone. I've tried to keep it stock for work purposes and trying to avoid a bunch of Magisk effort to keep my work email on the phone and working.
Am I just out of luck? Is there any way to retrieve the recordings that were present before the upgrade? I assume the file directory is still there, but 'erased' from the update and will require installation of the OP dialer to show up again. But, i can't find a OP dialer APK that will install successfully on OS 12.
Any help or advice in retrieving the files would be greatly appreciated!
Mark
UPDATE:
Persistence pays off. I kept trying to find an updated OP dialer that would work on OS 12. I finally got one to install (from Techibee/Telegram) but it did not recreate the 'com.oneplus.communication.data' directory. I deleted and reinstalled Joneplus Tools, which took some work to grant the write permissions again, and it also did not recreate the directory even after enabling call recording (strangely, it seems to have enabled recording in the Google dialer instead - I'll make a separate post about that because I still need call recording). But, on a whim, I went back into Solid Explorer and recent files... LO AND BEHOLD THE CALL RECORDINGS WERE SHOWN!! So, I long-pressed a file and selected "open directory" and discovered that the OTA update to OS 12 created a \Recordings\Call Recordings\ sub-folder in my Music directory and copied all of my phone call recordings there... very strange, but I'm glad they are not gone and I can access them again to back them up before something else happens. I appreciate the response below from @Effizio01 but the issue is now resolved. As noted above, I will make a separate post about Google Dialer recording as a test call said it recorded but I cannot locate the file. Thanks for all the views and "moral support".
