[Q] Theme help plz?!

Can someone tell me how to add custom icons for apps in my rom? There are many apps I'm gonna leave out but want to have the icons I make used if that app is installed. The only way I know is to manually change the icon in the drawable-hdpi in each app. This would be essential for two reasons. First, it would automatically use my custom icon. Secondly, it would make updating my rom so much easier without having to manually edit the icons every time the rom gets updated. I tried looking at some theme.apks for theme chooser but didn't quite see what I needed to accomplish my aim. I've used apktool and looked at some of the xml files as well to try and get a feel of what I need to do in order to accomplish my theme. So as the title states, HELP PLEASE!!!
Try using Ninja Morph. I recommended it to a lot of people. I made a how to a while ago for changing the signal bars. It is essentially the same process if you know where the icon is you want to change. Let me know if you need help.
*It's IncREDible*
That's not really what I'm needing. I'm fine tuning our grp rom and need something that will work like theme chooser apps but for all my icons and theme. This rom is a public distribution and will need to be up dated regularly. Ninja morph is for individual customization. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Check out desktop visualizer from the market. You can set the icon that shown on the home screens. This is the easiest way I know without changing the image file in the apk.
If you leave an app out, I don't think there is a way to have your icon used.

So, according to my description in the op, this app from market will allow me to add all my custom apps to my rom and then everyone can use the rom with my cutom images/icons?
I believe you can create an icon pack and use desktop visualizer to implement them. The user would have to apply these after d/l and installing your rom. You may check out the EVO forums. Riptide made a glass theme and he may be able to give you better insight.
ok, thanks. I mainly want to them my rom and make my rom available for others. I don't really want an add-on that the user will have to implement themselves.
Use 7zip to change your icons. If you change the icons with the app out of the Rom zip, you will have to resign it. If you Chang it while It's still in the Rom zip, no signing needed.

I wanted to include them in the Rom flash. I wanted to include extra ones for apps such as facebook, tweeter, angry birds, etc so that if the user installs those apps my custom icons will be pulled from the drawable rather than the default app icon in the app drawable. Thanks stoney for the tip to avoid resigning.

Go to you SystemUi.apk (in system/app folder), copy it to your PC.
Open it with rar or with zip7.
You will get acess to the res/drawable-hdpi folder.
Unrar or unzip this folder to your desktop. In it are all the icons that you wanna change... change them as you like... Put the folder back on the apk using the same rar or zip7.
Now - finally - you will have to resign the apk again (search how, 1st time it´s hard to get it right).
Push it back to the phone, backup the original as systemui.bak, and write this one over it.
Install it, reboot.... enjoy
Thanks me 10x if I helped .

Edit:
I meant to ask if you tried UOT kitchen??
http://uot.dakra.lt/kitchen/
Its easy to use but if you get stuck just ask.
Even simpler, use the theme kitchen.

You can even use it for odexed (stock) roms.
Thank you guys.
I will try the online tool.
I would like to press the thanks button but can't find the thanks button in the app and even in browser

There is actually an app called NinjaMorph that you can get from the play store, its what I used for my S2 to changed some icons and you can do it all on your phone, the app will unzip then zip the apk automatically, all you have to do is pick the PNG your replacing the old one with, make sure you got the new PNG in your phones SD card that's all.

[Video Tutorial] How to change .apk icon using "Apk Manager 5.0.2"

HOW TO CHANGE .APK ICON USING APK MANAGER.
Many people have asked how to change icons of apps in app drawer, once it was my question too,and I searched every corner of xda to find a thread explaining me that but it was of no avail even though i FOUND one but it didn't work on my sgs2.Therefore,I decided to help everybody who is having the same problem including me.So I brought you the easiest 'n simplest way to change the icons,it's lenghty as many would call it but once you get the hang of it,you'll be changing the icons of 'n on.

5. Choose point 1 "Extract apk"

7zip
Thanks a lot for this thread very usefull.
We can change the icons with 7-zip when we install a mod like Jkay.
1. extraxt your apk from your mod with 7zip
2. Open the apk with 7zip
3. Go into res/mipmap-hdpi for the Sgs2
4. Insert your new icon to replace the older
5.Replace the old apk
Apk manager is also very interesting to decompile the apk. This allow to change the code to make big modifications like the Domination mod.
PS: Sorry for my bad english language
Using the method in the OP you could very easily open up a can of worms if it contains badly patched 9's.
I'd personally use the universal theme template, a lot quicker, easier and safer compared to apkmanager, and it creates a backup.
I tried your method but it does not work on my sgs2 XWLPF deodex with last syiah. I cannot install the setting apk created on my phone.
I agree, although this thread is very helpful, I recommend if you're not changing any xml code or .9's... don't decompile just use UFT...
I know it's hard for some people and find decompiling and compiling complicated,so they choose 7-zip.. It's faster and easier I agree but I made this tutorial to let people learn how to use apk manager too.

Yes but the title suggests to "change the apk icon" in which you do not need to decompile the APK to do so... maybe you should rename the title?
anyway, thumbs up!
why before using apk manager my apk is 5969 kb and after change one file ( from 1,50kb to 1,86 kb ) it is 3124 kb ? I'm changing status_bar_latest_event_content.xml in framework-res.apk
Thanks a lot..
Thanks

but when i reboot the phone app's icon turn older.
what is the solution?
Im trying to change my clock color, either in status_bar.xml or styles.xml and neither way is working. After I push SystemUI,apk, I reboot the phone and it says systemui.apk has stopped working. I read I don't need to resign the apks, so Im not sure what else to do? Also, what compression level should I be using?
Hi, I tried using APK manager to change icons, and it works, but when I go to install on my android device, it says it didn't install.
Any help?

It doesn't support 4.3.. Just 4.4 and I installed the xperia xposed module which supports 4.3 and it doesn't have option to change notification drawer background
Then try the gravity box jb..search it at downloads in the xposed installer.

If you want to change the existing pic then it is easy
* Decompile SystemUI.apk
* Go to the directory res>>drawable-hdpi>>there you will find the existing pic, replace it with the pic you need and make sure resolutions are same
* Now, go to directory res>>drawable-mdpi>>there you will find the existing pic, replace it with the pic you need and make sure resolutions are same
* Now again recompile SystemUI.apk and place it in your System folder.
The image is now changed
