I'm wanting to install Cyanogenmod 12 on my old rooted I8150 with 32Gb SD card, but I'm having problems.
I installed USB drivers onto my Windows XP OK, and then downloaded Odin v3.09 and Clockworkmod 6.0.5.4.
With the I8150 in recovery, Odin shows blue on 0:Com4 and the phone shows "Downloading do not turn off"
Odin finds the Clockworkmod tar file ok.
I press Start in Odin, and it shows "SetUpConnection'", but nothing happens. It stays until I unplug the USB or the battery, when it shows FAIL
Any advice would be welcome.
Is there an alternative way to instakk without a PC, eg by putting the files directly on the SD card?

You can try to download clockworkmod on your sd card to flash from stock recovery, then copy the cyanogenmod and gapps and install them simply.Search on the forum how to flash recovery from the stock one. After, watch the install tutorial from every custom rom.
I wrote this guide.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1941028
It gives instructions for flashing CWM with a terminal emulator command.....no need for a PC.....

Hello!
I have a SGH-T889V Samsung Galaxy Note 2. I've had it rooted and running custom ROMs for more than 6 months, and I've never had an issue until now. I've tried flashing CM, pacman, and omnirom. All of them worked just fine (loaded ROM onto external SD, booted into recovery mode, factory reset, flashed ROM, flashed gapps, reboot phone and everything was peachy). I use Rom manager.
Yesterday, I tried flashing an update to omnirom (the 11/17 update) the same way as before. I got an error message, telling me the update failed. So I tried to reboot my phone again, but it told me that I had lost root access, and asked me if I wanted to fix that. When I picked yes, it went back to the Samsung load screen, and then the recovery screen appeared again. When I tried to "reboot phone now", it just flashed the samsung logo and then back to the recovery screen.
I tried loading the stock rom back on the eternal sd. That didn't work. Basically, when I took the external sd card out and stuck it in my computer, it told me that I had to format it to use it. It gave me exfat and ntfs as the write options. I tried it both ways, but neither of them were registering when i stuck the external sd back onto my phone and tried to mount it, so I can't flash anything from my external sd. To get my phone to register the external sd, I have to format it through rom manager / recovery screen. That works, and after that, my phone registers the SD card, but obviously I still can't flash anything off the external sd once I've formatted it on the phone.
I tried using the toolkit posted in the android development section to load the stock rom. I tried sideloading and also pushing the file to the phone. Both times, I got a messaging saying that it was waiting for USB debugging to be enabled. As far as I know, I can't do that from the recovery mode of ROM manager. So no dice there.
Essentially, I've softbricked my phone. Whenever i boot it up, it goes straight to recovery mode (and I only hold down the power button, not the typical power + home key + volume up key to bring up recovery). I can't flash the stock rom back on the phone, since my external sd does not register after i format it on my computer. When I try to plug my phone into my pc to load stuff on there directly, I can see it registers as MGH, but it does not show up in Windows Explorer to allow me to put any files on there. When I select "reboot phone now" in recovery, it shows the Samsung logo screen briefly before going back to the recovery screen.
I'm really stuck Does anyone have suggestions on what I can do. please?
Have you tried ODIN to flash stock image back on device? Another thing u could try is use another microsd card and format it as FAT32, load your ROM on there via PC and then flash whatever.

So I have Odin up and running, I have the stock rom and it's been converted to a TAR file. However, I can't get Odin to work properly because it does not register that my phone is connected to my PC (presumably it should show up in one of the rectangles at the top of Odin once I plug my phone into my laptop via USB). Since my pc (and thus odin) does not detect my phone, I can't flash anything onto it
At this point, I have the appropriate stock roms, I have odin, and my phone still boots up to the recovery screen (with rom manager), but I can't manage to get it connected to my computer, though I have the Samsung drivers installed and working (up until i softbricked my phone).
ETA: google is my friend! Found clear instructions on using odin to flash the stock rom, and yes, it worked. Thanks!!
Google is everyone's friend and I'm glad you figured it out.

So, basically, I've done a stupid thing, I attempted to install Cyanogen, forgetting to enable USB debugging, and it didn't go too well, all I can do now is use Clockwork Recovery as there is no ROM on the phone, I'm not sure if there's anyway I can enable USB debugging and flash it via USB, with Odin, but whenever I try to flash via .zip through Clockworkmod Recovery I either get the status 7 error, or if I take steps to get rid of that the installation just aborts, any ideas on what I can do?
There is also a possiblity I installed Clockwork Recovery for the 3G edition, whereas I have the LTE edition of the phone, I'm not sure if that'll have contributed to the downfall of my smartphone adventures
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

hi,
first of all, dont worry for that. its not really a brick.
reboot your device to download mode (press vol-down, home and power buttons)
install philz_touch_5.18.2-i9195.tar.md5 - 7.08 MB via odin and restart to your phone to philz recovery. (press vol-up, home and power button, if you see samsung logo release power button)
then install cm rom and reboot. if you dont have any rom file in your storage, then copy rom zip file to your external sdcard via your pc and put external card again to your phone and reboot recovery and try install your rom from external card. this recovery is for lte variant of s4 mini.
i hope you get your phone working again and tell me if it works
I can't use Odin to detect my phone, it just doesn't show up :c
There is another solution.
first - get philz recovery zip file for lte variant and extract it. (get it here http://d-h.st/qdn) open updater-script and remove this code and save file.(that installer will not stop because your device is show him you have 3g variant but you have lte one so simply remove this code and save file to your zip)
assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "serranolte"
|| getprop("ro.build.product") == "serranolte");
make zip file and copy it to your sdk folder and install it via adb sideload. (google it when you dont know how to install with sideload)
after this you should have right recovery.
then install your rom with sideload and reboot.
Yeah, that did fix it, I now however have the issue of my Wifi won't turn on and I cannot install things as it states that there isn't enough storage space available, which there is, there is also 4.62 Gb used in my Misc files and nothing is listed as even close to that size, so my phone isn't particularly better off ¬.¬ But thanks for your help
Got all of the problems sorted now, for the storage space thing, I had to remove my external SD card and just go on a formatting blitz after reinstalling Clockworkmod and the wifi required a modded kernel to be installed
Hi can someone help me, I have the same issue as Tobiscuits. The link no longer worked but I managed to get the file needed for recovery Odin doesn't see my phone so I can't recover to stock that way I'm guessing USB debugging is off I'm stuck on the Odin mode screen everytime my phone starts. I'm new to this what do I do with the recovery zip I have, it's on my pc atm

Have you installed latest Samsung drivers? Or try reinstall/update them, from Samsung website?
(in the past some people had to uninstall the Samsung sync software & it's drivers first if it had already been installed on PC, ie smartswitch/kies)
You must reboot PC between each operation above & check Samsung drivers uninstalled in program list (assuming Windows). Reboot after install as well.
Update to TWRP after fixed.

Hi thanks for replying, yes I installed Samsung usb drivers still doesn't recognise my device, I do have the same phone again and that works but that phone doesn't recognise on Odin or pc either maybe it's a cable issue or USB driver issue like you said. I'm pretty new to all this but TWRP is the recovery zip right? When I try factory reset it goes through the motions then nothing happens goes back to Odin mode automatically.i should mention I uninstalled magisk before my phone decided to not boot back up I'm guessing I uninstalled it wrong. I'll try uninstalling the Samsung drivers and reinstalling.
Here's what I did and where I'm at please help if you can? **MOVED TO CORRECT FORUM **
Originally I tried to root but it didn't root. In fact my phone started to have issues right after my attempt to root.
PHONE: Tmobile Samsung galaxy S2 SGHT989 loaded w Jelly Bean 4.1.2
WHAT I DID: I followed this guide to root my phone (it didn’t work/root, even though the Recovery message said it rooted)
**I'm sorry for referencing another forum..I just googled a how to**
downloaded extracted: ODIN 1.85
downloaded: TWRP (touch recovery 2.5.0)
downloaded to pc then put on SD card: Superuser – CWM_ROOT_SUPERUSER_3.1.3_BUSYBOX
*THEN I FOLLOWED THE REST OF THE GUIDE ON HOW TO ROOT..very meticulously (the guide shows CWM recovery but I used TWRP recovery).
From TWRP I selected and ran the zipfile for Superuser (the CWM***BUSY BOX file).
I got the message that said that I was rooted.
I rebooted the phone and downloaded the Titanium Backup app because it requires root. I got the message from Titanium Backup app that said I wasn’t rooted.
The guide says that if it’s not rooted then to go back to recovery/TWRP and flash Superuser again. I did and it STILL didn’t work.
I tried reloading the cwm recovery as well (both CLOCKWORD MOD RECOVERY I thought maybe this was the issue “nope” and then back to TWRP because it’s easier to use).
After this it started doing the endless “BOOTLOOP”. I had to take out the battery to stop it.
I tried going into MASTER RESET from boot “volume down, power, home key” it didn’t work..still BOOTLOOP.
So I rebooted into recovery/TWRP to wipe thinking that this might fix it. I wiped out everything including the OS (I got a message when I was about to reboot that said “you don’t have an OS, do you want to proceed reboot?”.
In my attempt to unbrick my phone I tried to go through Kies but it didn't recognize my phone (I checked the model & serial number 4-5 times).
So I downloaded the stock ROM through samsung updates so I could flash the ROM with ODIN. I started made sure auto reboot f.reset time was checked, clicked PDA, browsed to the file, highlighted the file and when I clicked "open" to add the file it doesn't show the path in PDA section as it usually does. So ODIN won't let me flash the stock ROM.
I don't think the file's corrupted because I downloaded the stock ROM from 2 sites multiple times, I tried switching USB ports, switched USB cables, rebooted PC, restarted odin. I can't get it to recognize the file.
I'm at my wits end so if anybody can assist I'd be very grateful.
Thank you for your time and help

Ok..so that I don't mess this up.
after I download this to desk top should I not open the zip file? Just open up ODIN select PDA then browse to the file location?
I'm screwing something up here...

Thanks Fasted12! If you were here I would hug ya and make you feel uncomfortable. Stay awesome :good:
today i was trying to wipe my phone in twrp to re start everything. i was inside wipe/advance wipe and i click all the check boxes. System cache micro sd internal storage all of em. i did not no that it would wipe my os. now im stuck without an os and ive tryed to flash a stock rom onto it with odin but it just tells me Nand write failed on it so idk what im doing or what i am doing wrong.
Here's what I would do to at least get a working ROM on the phone:
1) copy the latest version of d2lte cm11 to your external SD card: https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=d2lte;
2) flash the latest tar.md5 version of Philz Touch from here: https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/d2lte/ in the PDA box of Odin;
3) reboot to recovery and flash CM11.

thank you for the response. only thing is. i dont have a sd card.
how do i no what rom i need to flash with odin?
and what pit file i need to use?
i have a file but in odin i just get write failed
also i downloaded the phils touch thing and there is no md5.tar file in it so i cannot find anything on the odin pda
Use Odin 3.07 to flash Philz Touch in the PDA box. Philz is a custom recovery for the d2lte (North American s3). The file you need is d2lte/philz_touch_6.48.4-d2lte.tar.md5
You flash CM11 (the ROM) in recovery mode, not with Odin.
There is no need for a pit file.
Without a microsd card, you would need to push a ROM to your phone via ADB commands which is rather complicated for beginners.
ok im downloading that version and i have that version of odin. i also got my hands on a sd card. just cant get this odin to do what is needed.
Are you putting the phone in download mode before connecting to Odin? What errors are you getting?
it worked thanks, well the odin part worked. im still waiting on the cm11 to finish downloading so i can flash it. how did you no what i needed. ive been researching for hours man and i couldent find anything that would help me.
i have this file root66_ATT_I747UCDLK3.tar and i downloaded a file it was like i747cuem some other letters i cant find the file now just have all that was inside it.
also in the phils touch it tells me that i cannot mount /data to setup /data /media path! and i dont no how to fix that cause my phone wont open up on my computer so i cant put the files in it
It's been a while for me but you need to install a zip from external SD card.
The nand write failure you got in Odin was probably due to the fact that you have a 4.3 or 4.4 bootloader on your phone. The LK3 file has a 4.1.1 bootloader. Once you have a 4.3 or 4.4 bootloader on your phone, you cannot load a file with a 4.1.1 bootloader.
i cant get it to even open on my computer to put the files on it >.<
hopefully gott it to work, flashed cm on it now im waiting with the little head and the arrow spinning around him been doing so for like 3 minites thou...
yeah idk its just stuck on the cyanogenmod boot screen ig uess it wont go anywhere from there
Boot back into recovery and factory reset. Then reboot. It'll appear to hang for a few minutes, this is normal as it is rebuilding dalvik-cache.

Hi
is it possible to use recovery mode rather than Odin?
For eg
1/ save samsung stock rom on sd card
2/ boot phone into recovery mode
3/ select install and point to the sd card file location and install?
I've installed kies to get the usb drivers, made sure its not running, run odin 3.09, used a good quality cable, but not exact one phone came with (still hunting around for it). But Odin can not recognise the phone.
try diffetent version of odin and enter download mode
