By default, you would always have one recovery. When you are using one the other is automatically replaced by the new one.

That's what I thought... But I was going to flash a kernel yesterday, but when I was going to flash I needed to call someone so I quit. I came back to recovery shortly after, but it was CMW instead of TWRP...
I have still a few folders of both recoverys lying around on the phone. Not sure what's happened .

hey guys, sorry if this has already been answered. are there any recovery files for the G2 so i can flash it to stock out of the box? my friend gave me her phone cuz her ex put all kinds of spyware and i wanted to do a clean install of the OS. im used to moto phones so there are usually .sbf/.fxz files to do this with. idk if these kind of files exist for this phone. any info would help. thanks in advance

Just go into recovery, wipe everything and do a factory reset.

Flashing a recovery won't do what you're wanting; recovery is used to do what you want.

Sorry if I didn't word myself correctly. When I say flash a recovery file I mean an sbf/fxz type of file. Like moto phones have sbf/fxz files if you brick your phone. That's what I'm looking for. Id like to flash the OS so its a clean phone. However if stock recovery will do this then I'll take your word for it.

No need to reflash the OS, just boot into recovery, wipe everything and reset to factory (or however its worded) and it'll be like turning it on for the first time.
Anything that was installed via the Market will get reinstalled once she associates her phone with her account but I'm assuming any spyware he installed wasn't via the Market

Is it constantly rebooting?
If so, you need to flash the boot.img that came with the ROM.

What I do is first flash boot.img, the install the rom and restart the phone. Config everything. Then go to recovery and flash gapps.

Yesterday, my gio was working totally normal, I was running the CM7 Apocalypse rom. It was acting kind of funny, so I decided to flash back to my stock rom. The flash seemed to go as expected, except now when I boot my phone, its a totally black screen. It plays the sound that it makes when it starts, so its doing something. There is also no recovery. I can get it into download mode, except no matter what rom i flash it still has the black screen. The backlight is on and the screen turns on for download mode, so there isn't anything wrong with the screen. Also, my phone is the GT-S5660M model from Bell. Help?
no matter what rom i flash it still has the black screen

I CAN get into download mode. I've tried to flash back to stock. I've also tried to flash CWM but none of it worked. I dont think its bricked because when I flashed the stock rom it played the sound it makes when it starts. The screen is just screwed up somehow.
A short search reveals this, apparently we've been there already:

Thats the weird thing, I've already done that a bunch of times and the black screen is still there. The screen isn't damaged or anything. It's like something is persisting across flashes.
Did you wipe before installing stock with Odin?
Which one you're trying to flash? S5660XXKTL_S5660DBTKT1_DBT?

I didn't wipe. Is there a way to wipe if you can't get to CWM? The package I was trying to flash is called S5660MUGKG3_S5660MBMCKG3_BMC.

I've tried all of your guys suggestions and none have worked. I guess I'm going to use this as an exuse to get a new phone. Do you guys have any suggestions for a phone around $200? I'm trying to find one that has at least a 1 Ghz processor.

Hello this is my first post and I come to request some help.
I have a htc one v and was trying to update to jelly bean through steps from Android Authorty's guide
After completing this set of instructions I booted up my phone and sadly all I got was a htc screen with the red writing which then turned black and nothing happened after that.
Im pretty worried right now, I dont have much knowledge about androids and I have but a clue as to what I have just done.
Is it permanently damaged? How do i fix this or atlest restore it to the factory state.
Please help!

as for the OP: make sure you also flash the KERNEL for the respective rom. it is not enough to install only the ROM. You need also the kernel because we currently have S-ON devices.

To start over, u should have the stock kernel. U have restored the stock nandroid then u must flash stock kernel...or it will not boot...
Did u flash the kernel at time of installing JB??

Don't forget to make a backup with CWM or what ever recovery you use.

Hey i just tried to do this and got error while making backup image of /system
OK so i figured out that i am truly a noob.
I was attempting to install the CDMA version when i needed GSM.
Proud of myself for solving this i went to install the gsm version but sadly now i only get the htc screen with red writing.
It dosent change from there.
Have i done permanent damage because i installed the CDMA version!?
now im getting something really weird my phone goes to the htc screen with red writing then shuts off by itself and then turns on again by itself in a endless cycle of this red writing htc screen.

Alright... let's get your phone fixed!
I assume you have:
1. Unlocked bootloader
2. Installed a recovery
3. Installed a custom CDMA ROM
4. Then installed a GSM ROM
5. Now phone keeps rebooting?
Is that correct?
I rooted my phone using the all in one tool kit for htc one x(international) and first flashed twrp 2.4.1.0,The touch didnt work so I flashed cwm (non-touch) the phone got rooted but now im having doubts if it will be alright or wont cause a problem in the future.
Thank you.
