I rooted a while back with Stump. I recently used flashify to flash twrp recovery as I want to install a lollipop ROM. It was successful and when I restarted the phone as prompted by the app, I went to the TWRP recovery screen.
1) When i manually power off the phone and try to boot into recovery I end up on the Stock recovery page rather than TWRP recovery. The only way i can get back to twrp is by reflashing it in the flashify app. Any idea what is going on?
2) While I was in twrp i explored and tried to create a backup. Any reason why twrp failed to recognize my external SD card and would not let me mount it? My computer and phone both access it without issue.
Thanks for the help.
If you want answers, you need to provide more info, not just ask for help and not give the required info.
What phone model.
What Rom are you running? Lollipop or KitKat and what version.
What steps are you doing to try and get into TWRP.
You don't need to reflash it every time with flashify, open flashify hit the menu button, the 3 dots in the top right and guess what, reboot options.
Can't help you with the backup in TWRP not saving to your SD Card, but you could backup to internal, then reboot and copy the backup to your pc then try and copy it to SD Card.
Sorry for not being more specific.
Verizon VS985
Still running rooted stock 4.4.2
I'm holding down power/volume down to try and manually enter twrp.
I'm worried about relying on the app in case something goes wrong while flashing and I need to get directly to recovery manually. I was going to do the backup to internal and copy method but that leaves me out of luck if I need to restore from the ext SD in the event of a bad flash that stops me from booting the phone.
If you are rooted, download Quick Boot from Google Play Store and and use it to boot into recovery, or as @samorgs said, just use the 3 dots button to access into the boot option. If you can boot it into recovery mode through that, it means you have TWRP installed already. So it is normal to go to stock recovery screen manually. Same as my phone, I off my phone, hold down power+volume down and wait till LG logo appear, release power button and hold it back (still holding volume down) and it will bring me to stock recovery page, proceed with YES to factory reset and this will not wipe your data BUT brings you to TWRP recovery.
Hit Thanks if I've helped

So, just to be clear, in order to get to TWRP manually you have to select factory reset from the stock recovery page (reached by using power+vol down while the phone is off). This will not wipe any data but will in fact bring you to the TWRP screen?
Is this always this case with our model? Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks!

Not exactly how you described it. You have to hold Volume down and the power button until the device's screen turns on, and then as soon as it does, you press them again. (volume down and power.) only holding volume down and power will take you into download mode.

Hello; I have rooted my phone, but during the process, I forgot to save and backup my recovery partition. Now, my recovery contains TWRP instead of stock HTC recovery. The issue is that it prevents the stock ROM from aplying updates.
I would need either, a backup clone of a stock recovery (in dd, cat, of afstboot format), or, a method to apply the update from TWRP recovery ...
Thanks.

Download the recovery matching your cid from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
First tried 1.16.1700.16, all failed (with horrible error messages, and phone stuck for 25mn ... ); to cancel errors, I tried to leave the phone 10 plugged on USB, then 10mn unplugged; unplugging helps rebooting.
Then I tried stock_recovery_1.54.1540.9_recovery.img and this time it all went good. And update was successfully applied.
Thank you.

If your phone locks up, don't do all that plugging in unplugging etc..
unplug phone, hold vol up and power exactly 10 sec, let go of both, hold vol down and power to go to bootloader
Install latest TWRP once rooted, I have a separate thread about how to root your device.
1. Download latest twrp from here http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/d851
2. Download Flashify (for root users) from play store
3. Open flashify select recovery file you downloaded then flash it to your device. Done
(Boot into recovery menu when device is powered off)
1. Hold volume down and power button simultaneously
2. Soon as LG logo appears immediately let go of both volume down and home button
3. Repeat step one right after step 2
You will be asked to factory reset your device SELECT YES BOTH TIMES and you should boot right into recovery menu.
Done
Thanks for the guide bit it does not work.
I did as you have explained, flashed the twrp image but it does not go to recovery mode after pressing volume down plus power butto. It turns on normally..??
How do i know if the twrp is properly installed??

If at first you don't succeed, try ... try again. You are probably not timing the second press correctly.

No data will be lost. "Yes" twice and you should be in TWRP.

YES I MADE IT.. THANK YOU SO MUCH.:good:
PLEASE MENTION THIS IN YOUR GUIDE THAN ONE HAVE TO PRESS THE SAME BUTTONS AGAIN "IMMEDIETELY" AFTER SEEING LG LOGO.
This only works if you have the play store (and thus GAPPS) installed. I however do not.
You should modify the title to reflect that.

Great work on this TWRP. Works great on LP also after using a bumped boot.img and kk aboot also. Anyway to speed up backup's? Seems like over 10 minutes+ to backup to SD Card.

Ok, tried my first backup restore on TWRP from SD Card and it failed! Hmm. Anybody else have a successful restore? Just got my G3 so this is the first TWRP I've tried. Send you a PM OP.
---------- Post added at 12:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:29 PM ----------
Tried TEAMWin's TWRP and backup restore failed also. Must have been a bad backup. Gonna try backup again with TeamWin's and restore and see what happens.
this link from the stock rom thread points to a version 2.8.6.1 which is newer than everything in the OP link
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BxgcaWaR5dRTZExOQnZGWV91U3M/edit?pli=1
is this the right one to use?
what are the steps to go back to no twerp and no root and back to oem phone?
on my g2 I would go to factory reset in the setting and it would only boot into recovery mode..
I just searched for TeamWin TWRP and D851. Got a link to here: http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/249/ Seems twrp-2.8.7.0-d851.img is latest.
Update: I was trying to find a safe way to update TWRP and went back to the below site. The instructions now say to update with TWRP Manager. It worked flawlessly.
http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/249/
Install TWRP Manager. Tap on Install TWRP. Select your device from the device list (d851) and then tap on Install Recovery. The file will download and be installed automatically.
Hi all, after some modding it seems that my nexus 7 2013 lte custom recovery is vanished. I've tried to flash it via adb, I've flashed the new 5.1 official image, but nothing happen. Every time I try to boot into recovery mode, via adb or power+volume up, all I get is a dead android robot logo with no options.
And, btw, my N7 works perfectly
What can I do?
Thanks
When you flash a new android version you lose root and custom recovery, you need to root and flash custom recovery again as your currently on stock, when that robot is on his back you also have hold down a button combo to access the fastboot / bootloader or recovery, unless you send it the command via adb.
My advice is re-root using cfautoroot and flash custom recovery with flashify.
Ok, thanks! I've flashed twrp (I'm still no-root) and it works fine. Now is there any possibility to come back on stock recovery?
Flashify premium allows you to download and flash stock recovery or bootloader,
if you can't afford it or there not available for dl yet you can alternatively extract the .img files
from the factory image and flash them instead.

Nothing to do. I've extracted the img file from the factory image and flashed it via fastboot but, when I restart the device in recovery mode, it still shows the green half dead androidbot
^Thats normal. When you get to that screen you have to press volume up, down and power all at the same time, all three buttons. Just keep pressing them all at once a few times and it'll let you into stock recovery. It took me about 10 minutes to get in the first time. Don't hold the buttons, a quick press.

So you're saying that normally, on a Nexus 7 with no root and with stock recovery, the combination key to enter in the recovery isn't power+volume up ? Sorry for repeating, but I'm new at modding
I'm saying when you boot into recovery and it gives you the dead android (on it's back I think?) do what I said above.

Done Thank you all!
Yeah it's pita to press, it's why I prefer to launch recovery from flashify or quick boot it's so much easier.
Android seems to love doing things arsed about faced / over complicated it should just be an option in settings, power off like
custom roms along with wireless adb.
I used htcdev to unlock the bootloader on my phone, I then followed this online guide (Im not allowed to post the link) to flash a stock android rom to it, I followed all the steps but I when I went to reboot my phone It said something about no os installed but at that point i'd already hit continue. It then told me I needed something to root my phone so I selected install and let my phone reboot. It hit the splash screen for HTC and froze. None of the buttons work and neither fastboot or adb is recognising the device as connected. I made a TWRP recovery but currently can't do anything about it as my phone is just stuck on the splash screen.
Can someone help me reboot my phone when its frozen?
Hold both volume buttons and power button until the device vibrates and reboots. Then you can immediately hold volume down to access to bootloader, and from bootloader you can access recovery.

Thanks so much man, I'm back in the twrp recovery but now I have a new problem. The Lollipop ROM I transferred to my phone's internal storage isn't working . I flash it but when I go to reboot it says no OS installed. But I wiped the system and data partitions in the process so how do I recover my stock backup or how do I get a new rom on my phone

Flash newest TWRP, it has MTP support so you can get any other rom ZIP you want on the phone and then flash it.

Thanks mate, I actually sorted it by mounting the storage when plugged into my PC and that allowed me to transfer the zipped file which worked perfectly.
I've followed youtube videos and other sites to enter recovery mode but all i get is an option to factory reset or to exit. I've held down the volume down and power key together until the LG logo appears and then let go of the power key after a second.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks

What android version are you running? And how did you install the recovery img? And which one? If you installed the recovery properly and want to enter via hardware buttons it's the correct procedure.
--> If you're in the LG Stock recovery (where it asks you if you want to wipe your phone) just click yes twice and you'll boot into TWRP or clockworkmod (Whatever you've installed). I know that's a dumb way but it works
Note: If you didn't install the recovery correctly you will then wipe your phone!!!
To find out if you've done everything correctly with your recovery (and if you're rooted) just use the app Quick Boot from the play store, grant permissions and reboot into recovery. If you've done everything correctly you will be in recovery mode then And you can be sure that everything is setup correctly and use the hardware button method to access recovery (Just like I told you).

I'm on MM without a custom recovery., I'm hoping to just get into stock recovery and wipe cache partition. Is there even a stock recovery? Maybe factory reset yes/no is all there is?
Thanks

Nope and yes - There's only the option to factory reset if you don't have a custom recovery installed. Sorry to bear the bad news I thought you had a custom Recovery installed and don't know how to enter it. There's no stock-like recovery to access on the G4. Sorry :crying:

Do this, install lgup on pc, plug in usb, start lgup, let it detect on com port, click com port, ui will open, then click pbone info, it establishes avalid usb connection to phone, when it has, start adb prompt and type ' adb flash recovery (recovery image name) when done type adb reboot recovery and you're in recovery.
Just remember twrp recovery image must be in same folder as adb istalled to)

does this work on stock MM 20A or 20B without unlocking bootloader. i'd do it even if its just temporary to wipe cache and return to stock recovery after the wipe. factory reset just is too much to start from scratch with installs and setups. i am Never Buying a LG phone ever. it was my mistake
I have an unlocked bootloader, twrp (2.8.7), root and on MM V20a, Stock.
I can boot into revocery via adb reboot bootloader / fastboot recovery boot twrp, all works fine (excecpt that I cant access the external exfat sd card with cm12/cm13 based roms).
But I cant boot with Power on /Vol down keys intoTWRP recovery.
Altough I can boot in LG factory reset menu but if I perform that it wipe indeed to facotory reset no way to reboot in recovery.
I try it a couple of time without success. Also I try differnt key combinations (Power on / Vol Up + Vol down etc.), around 15 times.
Also I cant use tools like "Quick Boot" I try 4 or 5 diverents the result is always the same - android on the back with open hatch.
When I try to boot on CM12/CM13 via Power Menu directly to recovery the same effect occurs.
Whats gos wrong? Where is my mistake?
If you flashed TWRP, the "LG Factory Reset" menu will still show up. Just confirm 2 times with yes there, and TWRP will get started . Bit confusing, I know.

As I wrote - when I do this a factory reset is performed - no recovery.
Thats is my problem and unfortunately not the solution.
