Anyone give any advice on which is the best battery app?
Cheers
Snapdragon Guru.
Interesting, I just installed this one. It's listed as BatteryGuru, for anyone trying to find it.
In the multiple battery-life discussions, I don't remember seeing this mentioned, but I'll give it a shot on my current phone. Thanks.

I saw this thread

...and it got me thinking. (I know scary right?) ...but it would be a good idea to have benchmarks for all the roms out there. That way, you could actually see hard numbers to see the real differences between the roms. Now, I know nothing about the benchmark programs out there, so I was wondering if anyone had any experience on which ones were better than others. A quick search turned up
http://www.smartphone-freeware.com/tag-_benchmark.html
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/benchmark
http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/Developer-Tools/Benchmarks/
http://www.pocketpcfreeware.mobi/tag-benchmark.html
So, my question is, anyone have any experience with any of these or something better? I wouldn't mind running some benchmarks myself to see the difference in performance between some of the roms.
Hmmmmm...
I thought for sure someone would reply to this. After further searching, seems like spb benchmark might be the way to go. Now, wouldn't it be a good idea to have benchmarks for all the roms? I would love to see the performance differences between them all. Any input?
HI Dougstoner,
Short answer here is probably no. At least that is the answer I got when I suggested a Rom Wiki that had a user rating system. I was told that cooks would not want to see how their roms compared to others.... go figure.
I think it is a great idea. I am thinking about making the wiki.. when I have time. So if you do these benchmarks I would love if you would share them there...
I think this is valuable info. Especially for those with limited time.
Thanks. And goo luck!

What's up Cameraddict? Thanks for the response btw...
Well, I'm not trying to have users rate the roms, I would just be interested in the performance differences between them all. I have installed spb benchmark, but it takes 30 mins to run the benchmark, so I'll have to wait until I get home first. I'll run it tonight, but I think it would be a great resource for everyone to see. How much easier would it be to see which roms actually run faster, or which one has better drivers for graphics? I think it could be used as a tool to see if there are improvements in rom updates, drivers, etc...
Also might help the cooks out to see which versions work better than others as far as functionality goes. Again, my intent is not to say one rom is better than others, just to see the specs of them.
I'll run it tonight and test the rom I'm currently using, but if enough people want to see this, I might start doing it for all the roms.
I'd be interested in reading about your comparisons.
actually i was wondering about other tp2 users' benchmark results also and started this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=586598
but only 2 people replied. and one of them had much higher results than me using a custom rom which kind of explains why this is important.
needless to say i think it's a great idea too and i will share my results when i get spb benchmark
Would be interesting to know how big of a difference a rom can make.

I've thought about this as well. I have a lot of experience with Wikidot and their modules, and could assist in building a system for users to review and rate ROMs, and various means of categorizing them if you're interested in some help.
I think it would be a great resource.
This is a great idea. I am willing to bench the custom rom I am using and report it in.
Alright folks,
As a Customer Service Associate for a Sprint Preferred Retailer I'm supposed to know it all right? So I feel like a dummy for coming and asking for help from you guys the community, not a true tech issue but related. I've already ordered my LGOG (I got one of only 100 that were made available through our insider channel and now I'm just waiting on it to ship and arrive) but I'm kinda wondering a few things and maybe looking for opinions from the community, so I'll throw out what I wanna know and if you guys could help me out that'd be awesome.
First off, I have a few apps that I know I'm going to HAVE to have to make sure I can not only sell the phone itself but also the Sprint Service as a whole. I haven't ever gotten anything like a benchmark test app before so I need to know what the best benchmark app out there is (to have on hand for people who are REALLY deep techie types who wanna know about benchmark speeds and what not) that's not only easy to understand but not too tough on battery life?
Second, this is a very deep and I'm sure very divisive question but if you guys could give me some of the best pros and cons on the best launchers out there for the Optimus G. Not saying I'm going to go away from the stock one but if I wanted to show off the phone in a different way, what ones would give me the best of just about everything from being able to be customized to not slowing down the phone or draining the battery?
Third, on the flip side from question 1, are there any apps I should be looking into to replace the stock apps (i.e. camera, default SMS app, etc) and are there any that you guys think can really showcase the abilities of the phone as a whole that you would recommend downloading?
In advance I wanna say thanks to any and all of you who choose to answer, I'm new to the Optimus G community, coming over from a Samsung Epic 4g with RandomROM but I look forward to any info or opinions you all can give me.
Thanks again.

Most people prefer to use Quadrant/Antutu to benchmark their devices. These benchmarks have been known to be somewhat inaccurate and not reflect real world usage, but it's enough to satisfy the techie nerds at your store.
I think the best launcher is Nova Launcher, but it completely varies from person to person. Go Launcher EX is also a good one. I haven't played around with the stock launcher on the LG Optimus, yet. So I'm can't comment on that.
Thing is, about question 3, cameras function on both hardware and software. You can have the hardware for a perfect camera, but software can limit you. I've heard HDR camera and camera ZOOM fx are really good and puts your camera on the edge. I would try both of those out (I think Camera FX zoom is a paid app.)

[Q] Any general battery saving tips, as well as "must have" mods/tweaks/apps? Thanks!
I thought I'd post this as I would prefer to get updated advice as a lot of posts I've read that deem reasonable advise were from quite a few months ago!
Even if it's how to correctly calibrate, wakelocks, undervolting, decent kernels, maybe even roms, or useful tweaks/apps.
I'm absolutely loving this phone, getting along great, bought second hand very cheap as the buyer mentioned "Wifi doesn't work". After looking on XDA I found the wifi solution. Bought the One X (Quad) and it's great.
Been part of the XDA forums (maybe on another account before) since my old XDA II windows phone
Any advice will be very much appreciated!
Cheers!
Josh.
I hope I post this in the right place...
So my Q is this: What is the best all around ROM that is stable and give the best battery life / performance?
Thanks,
Just a heads up this thread will most likely get locked.
The correct answer is they are all the best. Try them all till you find what you like.

Well I don't understand why that would be as I am probing as a new SG3 user for information but in any case, thanks for the info.
BTW:
I don't really want to just try one because I may just go with a different phone if I don't feel like I can get the battery life and performance with stability I am after. Thus the phone will still be in factory condition so to speak.
Battery life and performance have to many variables to say one person's will be the same as another.

Like speed said your best bet is to find out which one works best for you. some roms absolutely suck on my phone while others love it on theirs. And vice versa.

The problem is that what is best for one may not be the best for another. Asking vague questions about battery life and performance won't really net you the data you need to make an informed decision. What sort of battery life and performance are you looking for? Even then, how you use your device may impact the performance of the ROM compared to how someone else may use theirs.
I view custom ROMs as something for people who like to take their device and tinker with it until they find a sweet spot that suites them. There are some very good choices but what will be best for you is for for you to decide.
Well stated by experienced and helpful users, thanks all.

Hardly an exciting subject, though just 'upgraded' my G Grand to 4.2.2., so far not really into the small changes, and might reflash 4.1.2.. Will see how the battery life compares, doubt there's any difference though, missing some off the user settings and stuff.
What do you guys think? If there is a link regarding this topic, or any knowledge on the pros/cons 412 vs 422 thanks in advance..... Maybe there is a link in this site with a subject already on this, so please leave a link..
Much thanks, and have a great week.....
My 2 cents worth for anyone thinking of going 422,are stay 412, though only flashed 422 today, so will give it a go for a week, and see....
