Google says that there will be no support for 4.2 on Nexus S, link here: https://groups.google.com/forum/?pli=1#!topic/android-building/-ymcoMuDAbA/discussion
And my question is, if 4.1.2 is the last update for Nexus S, will 4.2 be the last update for Galaxy Nexus?

Don't think so, maybe the updates will stop next year, around November

Nexus S got updated until Nexus 4 came, so Galaxy Nexus will probably be updated until the next-gen Nexus arrives.
We pretty much all knew that support from Google ends after 2 years.
Well if you consider that the Nexus S saw Gingerbread, ICS and JB (up to 4.1.2), for a single core, 512MB RAM device, that's pretty impressive. I am expecting the Galaxy Nexus to be supported until it's hardware is outdated. That may or may not be next year, but as long as it can, it will be running the latest version of Android.
I thought it was 18 months of support, anyway I will get a new Nexus by that time or there will be custom roms for it.

Guys, Xda is always there for us!!

I think we will continue to get support until the next major release. Maybe until android 5.0?

I think this is it for GNex...
The world is moving to the S4 and S4 Pro, where GNex is stuck with this OMAP from yester-year. I'm looking forward to getting my Nex4
I'm staying optimistic on this one. Wanted a N4, but then thought it might be worth holding to GNex until Android 5.0. With JB GN's hardware doesn't feel that outdated anyway.

Yeah and when everyone was dual core madness, the Nexus S still saw updates.
Im expecting 2 more major updates. Well maybe 1 major update and a few minor ones here and there.

This is my understanding as well..
We all know that Google went the extra mile to have ICS and JB running as best as possible in Nexus S, same for Nexus One (there were several internal builds of ICS for Nexus One until they saw they could not properly update it to ICS in the way they meant ICS to run). Since storage and partitions are not an issue, neither a Dual Core Cortex A9, my belief is that as long as 1GB of RAM is enough to have a good Android experience, they will keep Galaxy Nexus up to date.
It all depends on the hardware. It always has. If Google can no longer smoothly manage to run a build they will update it. It does not matter if it's 2yrs or 18 months
But with the speed in which technology in mobile world is evolving I expect to see the next major update I.e. the 'k' update as our nexus started out with ice cream sandwich.
Dual core is becoming old soon. All major flagship phones are quad core now
But we at xda have managed jb on phones with ram as low as 256 mb so I think we will see a cm 12 and 13 on my phone as well

Not that it matters but the Droid Razr HD was running on a Dual Core chip, and it was a flagship phone. Just saying.
Based on what Google has been doing with the Nexus line, we'll still updates until the next Nexus (N5) comes out. The N1 got updates until 4.0 and the GNex (N3) came out. The Nexus S (N2) got updates until 4.2 and the N4 came out.
Even if official support goes away for the GNex, devs will still be porting the newest android versions to it. Hell, there's an HD2 running jellybean somewhere out there

I used to believe that as well, but now that they killed off the Nexus S I start to disagree. I find it hard to believe that Android 4.2 requires much more processing power or RAM than 4.1. Judging from my experience on my Galaxy Nexus, both 4.1 and 4.2 are just refined versions of 4.0. Any device that runs 4.0 should run 4.2 as well.
I think that they don't have the manpower to optimize and test multiple Nexus phones and tablets for each version and are going to kill off devices after 2 years to focus on the newer ones.
Ive read reports of guys who updated their gnex to 4.2 and where left with 2hundred something of free ram
So it could be that it uses too much ram(considering it came with a 2gbRam phone) for the nexus S to handle

does samsung galaxy note 8.0 will be android 4.3 or 4.4 ? note 2 get android 4.3..sorry bad english
Nobody knows the answer to that yet. My best guess (based on history of updates to the first Samsung 10 inch flagship tablet) is that an update to 4.3 may be possible, but don't expect it until the version after KitKat 4.4 is almost released by Google. I would be surprised if we see it before next summer. Android 4.4 should make it to our tablets in custom ROMs by the developer community. Less likely to be updated by Samsung, but not impossible.

Is there any way I can get the android L preview working on my DEB LTE tablet using multirom ?
Been trying to figure this out too. Probably not. Us LTE owners are second class on system updates.
I've been looking into it. Some guy has a running port on the 2012 nexus 7. I say running but it's more of a preview because nothing really works. I'll look more into it when I get some time.

Is there a way to get 5.0 on Nexus 7 2012?
Check out the forums for the 2012 Nexus 7, where you'll find some happy news and good support for that device.
Any news on if the zenfone will get android M soon?
Im not sure if i should get a zenfone 2 or a nexus 5
Wait a bit, nexus devices get newest android first of all, after that the flagships A category... we can only wait for now
I'm sure we'll get it, but I doubt it will be any time soon.
Can you install the dev preview on it? Or only the nexus devices can

Asus TF202 tablet was the first to get it a few times so Asus is usually pretty fast on updates compared to the big guys

But ASUS were very slow with Lollipop for the Zenfone 5 and haven't yet managed to give us 5.1.1 even though 5.0 is flawed, so I am not that hopeful.

you remember that zf5 came with jellybean..they had kitkat now having lollipop 5.0
and zf5 isnt flagship or flagship killer for them...
but zf2 is flasgship for asus and flagship killer in general
so however you look at it..zf2 will get atleast 2 upgrades... atleast 5.1.1 and M
Flagship killer!?
I'm glad I have one.
Cheers.

Flagship Killer? I guess we will wait and see.
I am sure I remember hearing of an interview with an ASUS person where they said that their policy was that their devices would get one major update and be supported for one year. The Zenfone 5 has exceeded that I guess. That said, seems like support for my Memo Pad 7 has ceased after about 6 months, and with only a botched Lollipop 5.0.1 pgrade for WW and JP still stuck with the original Kitkat 4.4.2 (they never bothered with 4.4.4 at all). So who knows what to expect with our Zenfone 2. Hopefully as their flagship device they'll treat it well. I don't really care about getting M, but very much hope they can deliver us a stable, bug-free build of 5.1.1 soon.
Well the best is yet to come. CM 12.1 !

Yeah, my tablet the Asus tf300 was one of the first to get jelly bean when that came out.

now m is just a developer preview.i think the official firmware for zenfone 2 running m will be released in november more or less (I HOPE).Consider the first to mount stable android m will be the new nexus.then asus have to optimize m for zenny 2,mount zenui and all the optimization work.
Based on my experience with the nexus 4 getting quick updates is a mixed blessing. The latest and greatest new features and new bugs
I'm looking forward to "M" on the ZenFone. I'm running it on my Nexus 6 and Nexus 7(2013). Smoother and best of all developer options now has a "OEM unlocking", option as well as a "dark mode". And it comes compatible with "Layers" stock.
